Korean actor Song Joong Ki announces marriage, wife's pregnancy: report

 

 

(UPDATE) South Korean actor Song Joong-Ki on Monday announced his marriage and wife's pregnancy, according to a report.

 

The 37-year-old actor, best known for starring in the TV dramas "Descendants of the Sun" and "Vincenzo," revealed the developments in a letter posted on his official fan cafe, Korean entertainment news portal Soompi reported.

 

"I have promised to continue life together with Katy Louise Saunders, who has been by my side supporting me and who I have spent valuable time with while cherishing each other," Song said, publicly naming his wife.

 

"She has a kind heart, and she has lived her life passionately. She is a sensible and amazing person to the point that I revere her," he said, adding that he credits his wife for helping him become "a better person."

 

Song said he and his wife "naturally dreamed of creating a happy family together."

 

"We have put in much effort to keep each other’s promises, and we are sincerely thankful as a new life has come to us," he said.

 

"And today, based on our deep trust and love for each other, we are on our way back from registering our marriage to begin life as a married couple," he added.

 

Song thanked fans "who always cherish me no matter what" and vowed to "work to fly higher as an actor and individual with the wings of greater responsibility and passion."

 

In a separate Soompi article, a source from Song Joong Ki's management company said the couple would still hold a wedding ceremony "but nothing specific has been decided yet."

 

"The two will spend their newlywed life going back and forth from South Korea and the United Kingdom," the source added.

 

The actor announced his marriage a month after revealing that he had been dating a non-celebrity personality.

 

Song was previously married to his "Descendants of the Sun" co-star Song Hye-kyo from 2017 to 2019.

Just one month after making his relationship public, Song Joong-ki, 37, on Monday dropped the big news that he has tied the knot with British actor Katy Louise Saunders, 38, and that the two will be welcoming a baby sometime this year.  
 
The actor’s agency High Zium Studio hasn’t commented further on the subject, “in respect of the couple’s privacy.” And because Saunders has been largely out of the public eye since her last film in 2018, the lack of information about her has left many fans guessing about the pair’s relationship.  
 
Regarding speculations about the couple’s wedding, High Zium Studio told the JoongAng Daily that “there is a ceremony that is being planned, but no date has been set.” The two have legally married but have not yet had a wedding ceremony.

Saunders was born in  London, United Kingdom, to an English father and a Colombian mother, according to IMDB. She grew up in Italy and went to Bocconi University in Milan where she earned a bachelor's degree in Business Administration.
 
She debuted as an actor in 2002, through an Italian romance film titled “Un Viaggio Chiamoto Amore” which translates to “A Journey Called Love” in English. She played the younger version of the female protagonist.
 
She has gone on to star in some 20 films including, “Virgin Territory” (2003), “Los Borgia” (2006) and “Third Person” (2013), and appearances in “The Lizzie McGuire Movie” (2003) and American legal drama “Law and Order” in 2004.  
 
Her last acting work was the thriller “Welcome Home” (2018).

Some internet users speculate that Saunders became a language teacher after stepping back from acting and that she met her future husband when she became Song’s Italian coach during the drama series “Vincenzo” (2021). However, nothing on this front has been confirmed, and according to a statement by High Zium Studio last year, the two met through “a mutual friend.”  
 
Saunders is in Korea right now, and according to photos shot by the local news platform Dispatch, her mother is also in the country. The two were seen shopping for baby clothes in Itaewon in Yongsan District, central Seoul, on Monday.  
 
Multiple local news outlets have reported that according to industry insiders, the couple as well as Saunders’ visiting mother are living in a home in Itaewon, which Song bought in 2016. The house is said to be worth about 20 billion won or $16.27 million today.  
 
It is unclear if Saunders has been married before, or if she has children. Some online posts by fervent fans have found several photos of Saunders with a young blond-haired girl, and others that appear to show Saunders has a baby bump. However, there are no sources or past articles to support these allegations whatsoever.

Song Joong Ki is gearing up for his next project “My Name is Loh Kiwan”!

 

Based on Jo Hae Jin’s novel “I Met Loh Kiwan” (literal title), “My Name is Loh Kiwan” tells the story of the meeting, break up, and love between North Korean defector Loh Kiwan (Song Joong Ki), who arrives in Belgium with his last hope, and Marie (Choi Sung Eun), a woman who has lost her reason to live.

 

Song Joong Ki will be playing the role of Loh Kiwan, who struggles to earn the status of a refugee in Belgium, a foreign land he travels to with nothing to his name.

 

Choi Sung Eun of the projects “Start-Up,” “The Sound of Magic,” and “Gentleman” will be taking on the role of Marie, a Korean professional shooter with a Belgian citizenship. Unlike Loh Kiwan who travels all the way to Belgium in hopes to survive, Marie has lost her reason to live, but she unintentionally falls in love with Loh Kiwan after their first encounter.

 

Jo Han Chul, who starred in “Reborn Rich” with Song Jong Ki and “The Sound of Magic” with Choi Sung Eun, will be playing the role of Marie’s father Yoon Sung. Kim Sung Ryung will also star in the film as Ok Hee, who becomes the decisive reason Loh Kiwan travels to Belgium.

 

Furthermore, Lee Il Hwa will play Marie’s mother Jung Joo, Lee Sang Hee will take on the role of Sun Joo, a Korean immigrant who Loh Kiwan meets at a factory in Belgium, and Seo Hyun Woo will play Loh Kiwan’s uncle Eun Chul.
