melusine
Behold SoYi's tireless activism at work!^^ JTS Korea (Join Together Society) is particularly close to her heart. JTS is a Seoul-based Buddhist international relief agency/aid NGO which aims to eradicate hunger, disease and illiteracy through various projects and programs. 5/5/07 - YSY campaigning on the streets of Myeongdong, with fellow volunteers Kim MinHee, Lee Han, Kim YeoJin and her close friend Han JiMin. The donations collected are then sent to developing countries to fund literacy programs for children. News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News I think writer Noh HeeKyung (bless her heart) introduced them to this organization because: - the people involved in SoYi's recent 2-episode drama "Several Questions That Make Us Happy" donated production costs as well their ENTIRE salaries to JTS [news, news, news, news, news, news, news, news]; - LH and KYJ are her costars in SQTMUH, while LH and KMH were part of the "Goodbye Solo" cast; - In an earlier JTS street demonstration (date unknown), she and KMH were joined by their "Goodbye Solo" unni Bae JongOk. 12/22/07 - On the streets of Myeongdong again, another JTS fund-raising campaign to benefit underprivileged children around the world <slogan: They're All Our Children>. The usual JTS gang (YSY, Han JiMin, Bae JongOk, Kim YeoJin) was there, plus Park SangMyun, Han SangJin and Lee JongSoo. News / News --> I couldn't find pics of YSY (only of JiMin, Bae JongOk, Han SangJin, Kim YeoJin and PD Sung JoonKi) but the articles mention that she and several cast members of "Yi San" and "Woman of Matchless Beauty, Park JungGeum" were also there. 6/22/08 - The National Center for Missing Children (NCMC--under ChildFund--conducts research and study on missing children, provides preventive education and public relations, builds up and runs missing children database, and offers counseling and treatment for returned children as well as support for the family) co-sponsored a Green Ribbon for Hope Campaign. The participants gathered at the Cheonggye Plaza for the program (YSY and fellow actress Go Ara gave speeches, pop group Jewelry performed and the SBS 'Seoul Outing' gag team emceed) and afterwards everyone joined in the walkathon. SoYi was quoted as saying that she was "deeply honored" to be part of the event, that she was "glad to be there", and that 15,000 cases of missing children a year "is unfortunate, but can be prevented" which is why she urged for "more aggressive social attention and care" towards this issue. <clickable thumbnails> News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / [SPN video] / [YTN Star video|DL] / [ETN video|DL] 7/22/08 - She's also part of an online charity auction co-sponsored by the Lotte Department Store, the proceeds of which will go to the Children's Foundation. Autographed gear from star athletes Lee YoungPyo, Seol KiHyeon and Kim JaeHyun are up for auction, as well as items from entertainment denizens such as Bi, Kim RaeWon, Park YongHa, Yeon JungHoon, Jang Nara, Hong SeokCheon, Lee HyunWoo, DBSK, Super Junior, Wonder Girls, Kim DongRyul, Neo, Lee SeungChul, Jang YoonJung, Park HyunBin, Paran, Lee Juk, Shin HyeSung, Kil Gun, Lyn, etc. http://elove.edaily.co.kr/auction/ http://www.lotte.com/lotte/event/20080715_...StarAuction.jsp News / News / News / News I know it's very easy to be cynical and equate good deeds=PR, but all this? Certainly doesn't seem like a one-off deal. She's the real thing. And it makes me like her all the more, that she uses her celebrity for a good cause. melusine
8/6/08 - SoYi was in Beautiful Store's flagship store in Anguk-dong, Jongnu Wednesday morning to donate wardrobe she's worn in dramas and films (and to take a look around ). Beautiful Store is an NGO and nationwide charity shop in Korea which promotes an eco-friendly and sustainable community via recycling and sharing. All its profits (earned though collecting, repairing and selling secondhand items donated by citizens at low price) are used to support underprivileged neighbors as well as some grass roots groups. This particular fund drive is co-sponsored by JTS and will benefit starving North Korean children, and SoYi is the fifth celebrity to participate in it (the others are Bae JongOk, Kim YeoJin, Han GoEun and Kim JungHwa). melusine
Source: Dramabeans SBS is gearing up its new weekend drama City of Glass, to follow the currently airing Happiness. The drama began shooting on July 14 in the city of Boryeong in south Chungcheong province, with Yoon Soyi (Auction House, Goodbye Solo) shown here in her role as the lead reporter character. In the photos below, Yoon portrays a newbie reporter covering the Boryeong Mud Festival, who suddenly finds herself in the middle of an arrest for a murder suspect. Her character grew up in a tough family background to become a news announcer, meets her white-horse-bestridden prince and undergoes a "Cinderella"-like change in marrying her rich husband. However, she clashes with her husband's family, divorces, and sets off to follow her dream once more. The drama also stars Lee Jin-wook (Rivals, Someday) and Kim Seung-soo (Don't Ask About the Past, Jumong). City of Glass, written by Choi Hyun-kyung (As Much as Heaven and Earth) and directed by Jo Nam-kook (SBS's Hong Kong Express), premieres in September and is planned for 50 episodes.More News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News / News <clickable thumbnails> <clickable thumbnails> <clickable thumbnails> <clickable thumbnails> Source: HanCinema Tutoring popular among television stars... Why? 'For professional acting' It is becoming common for actors to go have private tutoring before filming dramas. Many dramas these days have the theme of professionalism, and the main characters want to show the career realistically. [...] Main characters of dramas to come later in the year are also receiving training or lessons. Yoon Soy, the female lead of SBS "City of Glass", set to air in September, and Jeong Da-yeong are attending Baek Ji-yeon's Speech Korea. These actors come out as announcers. A representative of Yoon Soy said, "Baek Ji-yeon has said that if they're going to do it, they might as well do it well. They are attending the same classes as future announcers". [...] One person involved in dramas has said, "The viewers' expectations are higher, so it seems actors study hard before acting so that the basic qualities can be etched into their bodies". melusine
Chungmuro Film Festival Invites Top Stars Source: KBS World Korea’s top film stars will grace the 2nd Chungmuro International Film Festival in Seoul, which is slated to open on September 3rd. The opening ceremony will be held at the Korea National Theater Wednesday evening and hosted by two award-winning film stars Park Joong-hoon and Kang Su-yeon. The organizers of the film festival announced a list of glittering invitees, including Jang Dong-gun, Kim Hye-soo, Ha Ji-won and Lee Jun-ki, as well as illustrious filmmakers and film company officials. Unlike the Blue Dragon Film Awards or the Daejong Film Festival, which is mainly a celebration for actors and actresses, the Chungmuro International Film Festival is directed at the general public. So it is very unusual and meaningful to see so many film stars taking part in the event. The festival’s new Organizing Committee Chairman Lee Deok-hwa is said to be the driving force behind the early success of the event. He has appeared on a number of TV programs to promote the festival and personally made numerous calls to his fellow performers and filmmakers to attend the celebration. The opening film will be the Japanese film “Hidden Fortress: The Last Princess.” Source: Dramabeans Stars came out in full force, from A-listers and all the way down, to the opening night of the 2nd Chungmuro International Film Festival, held on September 3. The celeb list boasted some big-name actors and even a few kpoppers who turned out in fine feather on the red carpet. melusine
A spokesperson for the drama belatedly revealed that YSY's jaw was dislocated in mid-August after her costar Yoon JungAh accidentally hit her right cheek too hard during a scene. They stopped shooting and rushed her to the hospital where she underwent an emergency jaw recalibration. According to the rep, despite YSY's willingness to resume filming, there was no choice but to suspend it for 2 days while she recuperated. Even while she was being treated and in considerable pain, apparently SoYi kept saying that she was sorry for troubling everyone and was worried that Yoon JungAh would feel guilty (aww~). At the time, the production team and other cast members (esp the seniors) were concerned that the injury was serious enough to require surgery or that she would have difficulty pronouncing afterwards (which is pivotal in her role as announcer), but she recovered and only has to undergo therapy once a month. The rep says the whole thing was a simple mistake, and that they even joke about it now. melusine
YSY was supposed to be a guest on SBS Quiz! Sixth Sense (퀴즈 육감대결). She hasn't been on a variety show in 3 years (she promoted "Shadowless Sword" on YaShimManMan and Sang Sang Plus in 2005). But she had to back out because she's too busy shooting her current drama. melusine
Kim RaeWon made a surprise visit to the "The Glass Castle" set on Sept 17 to show his support and encouragement for his junior SoYi (they belong to the same management agency). He said that he decided to visit now that he has some free time (after being busy with his drama "Gourmet" for the past year). KRW chatted with the cast and staff over soda and bread (which he brought), and promised to drop by again soon. He hopes that "The Glass Castle" will continue to receive love from the viewers.
