JTS Korea (Join Together Society) is particularly close to her heart. JTS is a Seoul-based Buddhist international relief agency/aid NGO which aims to eradicate hunger, disease and illiteracy through various projects and programs.

5/5/07 - YSY campaigning on the streets of Myeongdong, with fellow volunteers Kim MinHee, Lee Han, Kim YeoJin and her close friend Han JiMin. The donations collected are then sent to developing countries to fund literacy programs for children.

- the people involved in SoYi's recent 2-episode drama "Several Questions That Make Us Happy" donated production costs as well their ENTIRE salaries to JTS [news,news,news,news,news,news,news,news];

- LH and KYJ are her costars in SQTMUH, while LH and KMH were part of the "Goodbye Solo" cast;

- In an earlier JTS street demonstration (date unknown), she and KMH were joined by their "Goodbye Solo" unni Bae JongOk.

5/5/08 - JTS celebrates Children's Day in South Korea by kicking off a nationwide fund-raising campaign which will take place in 13 cities simultaneously.

News / News --> I couldn't find pics of YSY (only of JiMin, Bae JongOk, Han SangJin, Kim YeoJin and PD Sung JoonKi) but the articles mention that she and several cast members of "Yi San" and "Woman of Matchless Beauty, Park JungGeum" were also there.

6/22/08 - The National Center for Missing Children (NCMC--under ChildFund--conducts research and study on missing children, provides preventive education and public relations, builds up and runs missing children database, and offers counseling and treatment for returned children as well as support for the family) co-sponsored a Green Ribbon for Hope Campaign. The participants gathered at the Cheonggye Plaza for the program (YSY and fellow actress Go Ara gave speeches, pop group Jewelry performed and the SBS 'Seoul Outing' gag team emceed) and afterwards everyone joined in the walkathon. SoYi was quoted as saying that she was "deeply honored" to be part of the event, that she was "glad to be there", and that 15,000 cases of missing children a year "is unfortunate, but can be prevented" which is why she urged for "more aggressive social attention and care" towards this issue.

I know it's very easy to be cynical and equate good deeds=PR, but all this? Certainly doesn't seem like a one-off deal. She's the real thing. And it makes me like her all the more, that she uses her celebrity for a good cause.

8/6/08 - SoYi was in Beautiful Store's flagship store in Anguk-dong, Jongnu Wednesday morning to donate wardrobe she's worn in dramas and films (and to take a look around ). Beautiful Store is an NGO and nationwide charity shop in Korea which promotes an eco-friendly and sustainable community via recycling and sharing. All its profits (earned though collecting, repairing and selling secondhand items donated by citizens at low price) are used to support underprivileged neighbors as well as some grass roots groups. This particular fund drive is co-sponsored by JTS and will benefit starving North Korean children, and SoYi is the fifth celebrity to participate in it (the others are Bae JongOk, Kim YeoJin, Han GoEun and Kim JungHwa).

SBS is gearing up its new weekend drama City of Glass, to follow the currently airing Happiness. The drama began shooting on July 14 in the city of Boryeong in south Chungcheong province, with Yoon Soyi (Auction House, Goodbye Solo) shown here in her role as the lead reporter character.

In the photos below, Yoon portrays a newbie reporter covering the Boryeong Mud Festival, who suddenly finds herself in the middle of an arrest for a murder suspect. Her character grew up in a tough family background to become a news announcer, meets her white-horse-bestridden prince and undergoes a "Cinderella"-like change in marrying her rich husband. However, she clashes with her husband's family, divorces, and sets off to follow her dream once more. The drama also stars Lee Jin-wook (Rivals, Someday) and Kim Seung-soo (Don't Ask About the Past, Jumong).

City of Glass, written by Choi Hyun-kyung (As Much as Heaven and Earth) and directed by Jo Nam-kook (SBS's Hong Kong Express), premieres in September and is planned for 50 episodes.
