TAMAKI HIROSHI & YAMADA TAKAYUKI

"MW," a manga by famed artist Osamu Tezuka, is being turned into a live-action film, starring actor Hiroshi Tamaki. Taking the director's seat is Hitoshi Iwamoto, known for several popular television dramas.

The comic originally ran in Shogakukan's Big Comic from 1976 to 1978. The story revolves around MW, a poisonous gas developed as a chemical weapon by foreign military forces. After an accidental leak on an isolated island, the military covers up the incident by exterminating all of the island's inhabitants. One survivor named Yuuki (Tamaki) grows up as an elite bank employee, but in secret, he is a killer taking revenge on those responsible for the incident. His ultimate goal is to unleash MW across the whole world.

Takayuki Yamada co-stars as Yuuki's friend and accomplice, a priest named Yutaro Garai.

Filming started on April 20, and some scenes are currently being shot in Thailand. The movie will open in theaters in 2009.

Thanks for the info! :D

Tamaki + Yamada =

I absolutely love this poster:

I'm kind of confused how Yamada is a priest, at the same time, Tamaki's accomplice. Well, either way.... two excellent actors, both my favorites. Since spring jdrama line-up had excellent actors returning, I've been wondering all this while when Yamada's coming back with a project! Nice come back for him.. I missed him so much!

Story-wise, the whole island and (almost) total annihilation of residents reminded me of Yasha at first.. then then bonding of two friends.. wouuld be nice if there's more to it than just revenge.

I'd watch anything with Tamaki!

I love that he's getting so many different roles

from the charming Chiaki sempai to the super dorkie guy in Love Shuffle

but this time he's getting something less animated, which makes me curious!

can't wait!

(and thanks god no female partner... i can't stand him with anyone other than Nodame..lol)

I almost forgot about Takayuki Yamada.

He disappeared for such a long time. I loved him in H2.

I'm glad he is acting again, very talented imo.

and who doesn't like Tamaki? lol

That is probably because of his past scandal that has affected his popularity. I am also very happy to see him acting again. I am so exited to see Yamada and Tamaki acting together. They are both great actors.

So great to hear that Yamada will be back on the big screen right after CROWS ZERO II. The characters is simply challenging and interesting enough to make me watch it. ;)

what scandal? is it the out-of-wedlock child he had? if it is, i'm not surprised it affected his popularity. it's still a rarity in japanese society, i think.

anyway, two good actors. both can do drama and comedy.

Wasn't he just in Crows Zero II some weeks ago? He's the second l;ead to Oguri Shun. He was in both Crows Zero movies too. Rather than that, I'm think how active he actually is.

but that's Oguri Shun's. by that, he leads the movie. there was a time when Yamada is almost always the lead actor in a project. gah, I love him so much in Fire Boys.

a bit off-topic: Yamada and Kobuzuka Yosuke are one of those really, really impressive, affective actors i've watched. i would love to see them working together.

^thank you for the link. yamamoto yusuke will be in it!

OH my i didn't think the movie was that dark after reading another summary here:

mw.jpg

Comics god Osamu Tezuka’s darkest work, MW is a chilling picaresque of evil. Steering clear of the supernatural as well as the cuddly designs and slapstick humor that enliven many of Tezuka’s better-known works, MW explores a stark modern reality where neither divine nor secular justice seems to prevail. This willfully “anti-Tezuka” achievement from the master’s own pen nevertheless pulsates with his unique genius.

Michio Yuki has it all: looks, intelligence, a pedigree as the scion of a famous Kabuki family, a promising career at a major bank, legions of female admirers. But underneath the sheen of perfection lurks a secret with the power to shake the world to its foundations.

During a boyhood excursion to one of the southern archipelagos near Okinawa, Yuki barely survived exposure to a poison gas stored at a foreign military facility. The leakage annihilated all of the island’s inhabitants but was promptly covered up by the authorities, leaving Yuki as an unacknowledged witness—one whose sense of right and wrong, however, the potent nerve agent managed to obliterate.

Now, fifteen years later, Yuki is a social climber of Balzacian proportions, infiltrating the worlds of finance and politics by day while brutally murdering children and women by night—perversely using his Kabuki-honed skills as a female impersonator to pass himself off as the women he’s killed. His drive, however, will not be satiated with a promotion here and a rape there. Michio Yuki has a far more ominous objective: obtaining MW, the ultimate weapon that spared his life but robbed him of all conscience.

There are only two men with any hope of stopping him: one, a brilliant public prosecutor who struggles to build a case against the psychopath; the other, a tormented Catholic priest, Iwao Garai, who shares Yuki’s past—and frequently his bed.

Serialized beginning in 1976 in Big Comic magazine, where Tezuka’s trailblazing medical thriller Ode to Kirihito had appeared a few years earlier, MW probes the complexities of homoeroticism as well as the reality of extensive U.S. military presence in Japan. The result is as bracing today as it was thirty years ago.

^^ I had a feeling something like that will happen between the two of them!

Now I can't even wait for the movie to be released on DVD.

I miss those days when he was lead. Now he's playing supporting instead. He's really talented, and so is Kobuzuka, whom I haven't seen in a drama forever. Such a pity we're not seeing more of them. Hopefully Yamada will be able to revive his career.
