A man was arrested on suspicion of making death threats to teenage actor Wang Seok-hyeon, police said.

The suspect in his 30s, a self-proclaimed fan of Wang, 16, was put into custody after police traced him with phone records and CCTV footage, according to Seongdong Police Station in Seoul. He told police he had threatened the actor because he refused to meet him.

According to police, the suspect introduced himself as a member of the "Gun Distribution Association" in phone calls to the actor's agency and school on Dec. 20. The suspect complained about the difficulty of meeting the actor and said he would kill him, according to investigators.

They confirmed the association he claims to be involved with does not exist.

Police said it was a "one-person crime," but Wang and his agency LIONHEART say they will not let their guard down.

The agency has hired bodyguards to protest the actor around the clock.

"We advised Wang to stay at home for a while and avoid meeting with strangers," a LIONHEART official said.

Wang debuted in the film "Speed Scandal" in 2008 and rose to stardom. He is appearing in ongoing tvN drama "A Pledge to God."

Man Receives Jail Sentence For Death Threats Against Wang Suk Hyun

Source: Soompi by L. Kim

Man Receives Jail Sentence For Death Threats Against Wang Suk Hyun

In the first trial for the man in his 30s (hereafter known as “A”) who made a death threat to actor Wang Suk Hyun, the court announced his sentence.

On May 16, Yang Chul Han, the chief judge of the Seoul Eastern District Court, sentenced “A” to ten months in prison.

In December of last year, “A” was arrested and indicted on charges of calling Wang Suk Hyun’s school and agency and spreading false information saying that the actor had stolen things and then threatening to kill him.

The court stated, “It is unavoidable for ‘A’ to receive severe punishment due to his obsession with a celebrity and threatening him. We also considered the victim suffering from severe fear.” They added, “‘A’ has a history of being treated for Asperger’s syndrome, but he is not believed to have been mentally challenged at the time of the crime.”

In January, Wang Suk Hyun opened up about the incident at the press conference for his drama “A Pledge to God.”

Man jailed for making death threats to child actor

By Lee Gyu-lee The Korea Times

on Oct. 4, 2018. Korea Times file

A man was jailed for 10 months Thursday for making death threats to teenage actor Wang Seok-hyeon, whom he once was obsessed with.

The man, identified by the surname Lee, in his 30s, appeared in the Seoul Eastern District Court charged with falsely accusing the 16-year-old actor of theft and threatening to kill him. The death threats were made in phone calls to Wang's agency and Dankook University Middle School, where the star attended, last December.

Lee said during police questioning that he had been Wang's fan for a long time but became upset when he could not meet the actor.

During the trial, Lee claimed he was suffering from Asperger's syndrome. But the court ruled that the defendant was in a stable mental state when committing the crime.

"Given that the defendant made death threats from his obsession with the actor, the court concluded that severe punishment is inevitable," the judge said.

Wang is managed by STX Lionheart Entertainment. He debuted in 2008 in the hit movie "Scandal Makers," starring actress Park Bo-young. In December, he won the Best Child Actor award at the 2018 MBC Drama Awards for his role in the TV drama "A pledge to God."
