The coastal cities of Goseong and Sokcho in Gangwon may be suffering from the devastation of perhaps the biggest wildfire the region has ever experienced, but they’re not alone. Dozens of actors, singers, comedians, models and other celebrities have donated money to help the cities recover from the damages, and have encouraged others to help in whatever way they can.

On Friday, Singer IU donated 100 million won ($87,900) to ChildFund Korea, while other stars from the Gangwon region also made donations, including Kim Hee-chul from boy band Super Junior - who donated 30 million won to the Community Chest of Korea - comedian Yoon Jung-soo and singer Yoon Ji-sung, who each gave 10 million won to the Korea Disaster Relief Association.

The next day, actors Song Joong-ki and Nam Joo-hyuk each contributed 30 million won, Jung Il-woo and Yim Si-wan gave 20 million won, and former baseball player Lee Seung-yuop pitched in 10 million won. K-pop megastar Psy threw in 100 million won. The singer is known for taking the lead in helping fellow Koreans in the wake of natural disasters, such as the Daegu Seomun Market fire in 2016 and the Pohang earthquake in 2017.

Celebrity couple Lee Byung-hun and Rhee Min-jung shared their condolences and donated 100 million as well. Other celebrity couples provided monetary support, including Gummy and Cho Jung-seok, who donated 30 million won, and Hong Hyun-hee and Jason, who gave 5 million won.

Actors Kim Woo-bin, Kim Seo-hyung, Lee Jun-ho (also known as Junho of boy band 2PM), Yoon Bo-ra, Cha Eun-woo, Chun Woo-hee, Kim So-hyun, Kim You-jung, So Yu-jin, Lee Je-hoon, Lee Jung-hyun, singers Kim Jin-woo of boy band Winner, Kim Jin-hwan of boy band iKON, Kang Min-hyuk and Jung Yong-hwa of boy band CNBlue, Yoon Doo-joon of Highlight, Kim Dong-wan of Shinhwa, K.will, Narsha of the Brown Eyed Girls, Sunmi, trio Koyote, comedians Kim Na-young, Yoo Byung-jae, Shim Hyun-sub, Yoo Sae-yoon and model Yano Shiho also took part in the philanthropic contribution. Cube Entertainment, home to groups BtoB and Pentagon, donated 50 million won in the company’s name.

Newly-wed celebrity couple Kim Sang-hyuk and Song Da-ye who tied the knot on Sunday afternoon, began their marriage with a meaningful contribution, by donating 10 million won to the Korea Disaster Relief Association on Saturday.

On Sunday, news came that Hwang Kwang-hee passed along 20 million won to the Korea Disaster Relief Association, as well as actors Lee Hye-young and Yoon Se-a, with each giving 10 million won donations. Singer Ong Seong-wu made a contribution of 10 million won, actors Kang So-ra and Han Hyo-joo gave 20 million won each and model Han Hye-jin provided 30 million won.

“We have been receiving calls from people asking how they can donate to us since Friday,” said a representative from the Korea Disaster Relief Association, adding that they are expecting more donations to come in the coming days. On Saturday, the disaster relief association said that they have collected 4.7 billion won in just two days.

The wildfire began around 7 p.m. on Thursday, sweeping through 400 houses and 530 hectares of forest across the Gangwon region. The local government declared Goseong, Sokcho, Gangneung, Donghae and Inje special disaster zones, entitling the residents to financial, administrative and medical support.

@peonie, it's a pleasure finding the photos & news and sharing them here. Quite a lot of photos to sort and save.. just like always that we'd wouldn't miss out for anything else. :PTruly a lovely treat for fans seeing BH & MJ together at the spring wedding, even looking like a couple on their own wedding day.  Nice to see that BH has  mellowed in a very good way, giving MJ all the love and support by letting her lead the way. The little things we'd notice in the video clips are indeed testament of their happiness and comfort being with each other.

Thanks to the twitter highlight by ふゆ @fuyu_33 from original posts at IG (1) (2). Looks like BH attended an event for California Tourism held on April 8 at Once in a Blue Moon (remember Minchul-Yeonsoo scene in Beautiful Days?). ^_^

4/10: Byunghun posted a photo of him with good friend, well-known Japanese musician, Yoshiki. It's not a new photo but never been posted before. Previously we've only seen the photo of them with MJ as well, taken a couple years back. Similar to LBH & LMJ, Yoshiki has donated KRW 100M for the Gangwon fire victims.

It's nice to note that without any delay, BHMJ has also donated to help the fire victims, contributing together as a couple. They might be managed by different agencies, career-wise but as husband & wife, they're donating & doing good as one and as equal. wub.gif Plus both of them inspiring others to donate as well, is definitely a positive trait. Well done!

Source: INSIDE Korea JoongAng Daily

On Wednesday, Japanese star Yoshiki and Yunho from TVXQ were revealed to have made donations to assist in the rebuilding efforts after the devastation of the recent wildfire that broke out in Gangwon.

Yoshiki, the leader of Japanese rock band X-Japan, donated 100 million won ($87,785) to ChildFund Korea.

According to ChildFund on Wednesday, the singer handed the money to the association through a corporate body he runs in the United States, after hearing the news of a donation made by celebrity couple Lee Byung-hun and Rhee Min-jung, with whom he is friends.

He “sincerely hopes” that the region can recover soon, according to ChildFund Korea.

Yoshiki has taken the lead in donating money to help recovery efforts after natural disasters, such as earthquakes in Japan and China, as well as hurricanes in the United States.

Yunho gave 30 million won to the Community Chest of Korea.

“I hope I can be of help to those who have lost their homes due to the sudden wildfire,” the singer said.

Japanese rock star donates $87,900 for fire victims in Gangwon

By Dong Sun-hwa The Korea Times

Yoshiki, the leader of Japanese rock band X-Japan, has donated 100 million won ($87,900) for victims of the massive wildfire in Gangwon Province on April 4.

The rock star handed the donation to ChildFund Korea via his American non-profit foundation YOSHIKI FOUNDATION AMERICA. He was reportedly influenced by Korean actor couple Lee Byung-hun and Lee Min-jung who offered the same amount.

The fire started in Goseong. It killed one person and injured 11. Korean President Moon Jae-in declared a state of national disaster over the blaze.

"I hope the fire-stricken region of Gangwon Province will recover as soon as possible," Yoshiki said via the foundation, Wednesday.

Lee Byung-hun praised him on Instagram, saying: "Thank you, my friend." He also posted a photo of himself with Yoshiki.

X-Japan debuted in 1985 and shot to fame with smash-hit songs including "Endless Rain" released in 1989.

Yoshiki donates 100 million won to aid victims of forest fire in South Korea

Source: JRN JRock News

X JAPAN’s drummer Yoshiki has donated 100 million won (about $90,000) to ChildFund Korea, to aid the victims of the devastating forest fire in South Korea. This was through Yoshiki Foundation America, a non-profit organization which Yoshiki founded in 2010. The forest fire took place last week on April 4 and has caused big damage and despair, with over 820 people affected and 478 homes destroyed, unfortunately, also one death and 11 injuries as reported on April 8.

A close friend of Yoshiki, the Korean-born Hollywood actor Lee Byung-hun, had earlier donated 100 million won to support the efforts. This inspired Yoshiki to also contribute.

I was moved when my close friend Mr. Lee Byung-hun made a donation, and I was inspired by our international friendship

I wanted to help those people suffering from the disaster, and I pray from the bottom of my heart that they can recover as soon as possible.

In other previous natural disasters, we have seen Yoshiki show generosity and kindness. For the relief effort of Hurricane Harvey in the U.S., Yoshiki donated $100,000. Yoshiki also offered humanitarian aid to victims of the 1995 Kobe earthquake, the 2008 Sichuan earthquake in China, the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami, the 2016 Kumamoto earthquakes, and the 2018 Japan floods.

#Throwback

Have not seen this (full) clip, only a capture before. If not mistaken, filmed circa 2004 (2005?) when he was preparing for his Japan fanmeet concert / release of the first photobook. BH walking his favorite Jindo near his home in Bundang.

Thanks to Sindy Kao for sharing this clip~
