Didn't expect this in English, a great article to read on the BrawlStars game CF and Lee Byung Hun's involvement in the filming. From the list of cast and movie references.. perfectly put together to be an incredibly funny commercial clip. Not one but three times befitting the 3 on 3 game concept. Each version is even funnier than the next and BH himself having a good time making fun of his past roles. An all-around awesome CF, well done!

The Infamous Lee Byung-hun Commercial

The game Brawl Stars produced a commercial featuring Lee Byung-hun, a 3 on 3 shooting game from mobile game developers Super Cell. Lee Byung-hun is a bounty hunter who sets off on his own to find a wanted criminal, but ends up getting counter attacked.

The commercial is made up of five episodes. As villains who fight against Lee Byung-hun are UFC fighters Kim Dong-hyun, Jung Chan-sung and Choi Doo-ho, "Inside Men" Jo Woo-jin, "A Bittersweet Life" Kim Young-chul, Kim Roi-ha, and Lee Ki-young, "Records of the Three Kingdoms" Yoo-bi, Gwan-woo and Jang-bi, "Grandpa Over Flowers" Lee Soon-jae, Shin Goo and Baek Il-sub. Many who have seen the commercial wonder how all this casting was possible.

The commercial was made by Dolphin Kidnappers, a contents company that is known for its insane videos such as the Ahn Jung-hwan and Choi Hyun-suk Cannon commercial of them going hunting for wild animals, but getting attacked by a bear or Kim Young-chul's 'four dollars' Burger King commercial. Director Shin Woo-suk of Dolphin Kidnappers said, "The keyword was 3 on 3. I wondered what combination of 3 would defeat Lee Byung-hun. The bad guys in movies came to mind and I added the grandpas because of the strict order of rank. The UFC fighters intuitively give the idea that Lee Byung-hun won't be able to stand a chance against them and Yoo-bi, Gwan-woo and Jang-bi was a coincidence. There were other options like the trio from "The Good, the Bad, the Weird", "Sunflower" and the scene stealing 'bear' from the Cannon commercial".

 

There are a lot of movies and casts involved in this commercial so there are also the matters of copyright and model fees. Director Shin said, "If an actor appears in a parody of a movie the film company cooperates as much as they can. It's true the cost of having 16 models was big but it wasn't the first matter. Super Cell wanted a film that will spread on its own. So the commercial was made in the form of a multi-ending story that isn't just a one-episode thing". The commercial has three versions.

 

In the eyes of the public, the parody could be fun but they would also be seeing the funny side of Lee Byung-hun. Elements that can be seen as Lee Byung-hun's 'flaw' were also added into the parodies. The part which he says "Oh no" was a line from the drama "IRIS". It is a parody of Lee Byung-hun's representative 'past', which has been circulating until now.

 

Another member of Dolphin Kidnappers, producer Baek Jong-ho said, "The funny elements of the actor could be a put-off but he was very welcoming towards the idea and even put in his own ideas". In the UFC episode, the part where he says, "Jab, jab, jab, straight" was his idea. Director Shin said, "There aren't many actors who put so much passion into a commercial. Lee Byung-hun monitored all our commercials in the past before we started working together and even requested a meeting himself. He thinks of it as one of his 'works' and I realized what a great actor he is through this experience".

 

The Dolphin Kidnappers started in 2006 with 6 people who had nothing to do with contents making. Now they have 11 members on the team and they focus around story telling. This puts them apart from other commercial companies. Director Shin said, "We think the commercial can only survive with contents. That's the trend of the period we live in and there aren't many companies that make contents like us".

 

Dolphin Kidnappers are famous for commercials but actually they are a creative organization that got together for film making. They created the web-toon "Whale Dust" last year and are slowly expanding their territory. Director Shin said, "We got together 10 years ago to make movies. We have come this far by going down a path different from others. We are currently preparing a film and although we don't know when it's coming out but we want to come up with movies that no one has ever seen before".

March Male Advertisement Model Brand Reputation Rankings Revealed

The Korean Business Research Institute has announced this month’s brand reputation rankings for male advertisement models!

 

The rankings were determined through an analysis of consumer behavior, using big data collected from February 28 to March 29. The Korean Business Research Institute evaluated the participation, communication, media, and social values of 50 male advertisement models in order to calculate each star’s total brand reputation index for March.

 

Gong Yoo topped this month’s list with a brand reputation index of 1,312,399, marking an impressive 158.28 percent increase in his score since January (the last time the rankings were calculated). The actor’s highest-ranking related terms included “heart-fluttering,” “like,” and “cool,” while his positivity-negativity analysis revealed a score of 85.14 percent positive reactions.

 

Celebrity chef Baek Jong Won maintained his position at second place in the rankings this month, scoring a brand reputation index of 785,214 for March.

 

Meanwhile, Park Bo Gum rose to third place on this month’s list, scoring a total brand reputation index of 684,332.

More Celebrities Donate In Aid Of Victims Of Gangwon Province Wildfire

More celebrities’ contributions in aid of the victims of the wildfire in Gangwon Province have come to light.

 

The Gangwon Province wildfire began in Goseong County on the evening of April 4 and soon spread to Sokcho. On April 5, a state of disaster was declared for Goseong County, Inje County, and the cities of Sokcho, Gangneung, and Donghae in Gangwon Province. The fire has caused extensive property damage and power outages, and as of April 5, it was reported that one person had died and 11 people have been injured.

 

According to the Hope Bridge Disaster Relief Association on April 6, PSY donated 100 million won (about $87,900) to the victims of the fire. Lee Byung Hun and Lee Min Jung donated the same amount as a couple.

 

Actress Kim Seo Hyung from “SKY Castle” also donated 10 million won (about $8800). Her hometown is in Gangneung, Gangwon Province.

 

Actress So Yoo Jin donated 50 million won (about $43,900), actor Jung Kyung Ho donated 10 million won, and Im Siwan donated 20 million won (about $17,500).

 

Jo Jung Suk and Gummy donated 30 million won (about $26,400) as a couple, and actor Jung Hae In donated the same amount. Comedian Yoo Byung Jae donated 1 million won with his manager (about $900).

 

Other celebrities who have made donations include Koyote (30 million won), ASTRO’s Cha Eun Woo (10 million won), WINNER’s Kim Jin Woo (10 million won), actress Kim So Hyun (10 million won), actress Chun Woo Hee (10 million won), Narsha (10 million won), and Simon Dominic (30 million won).

 

Highlight’s Yoon Doojoon and CNBLUE’s Kang Min Hyuk, who are currently completing their mandatory military service, also donated to the relief effort. Yoon Doojoon donated 20 million won and Kang Min Hyuk donated 10 million won.

 

Kim Woo Bin, Park Soo Ah (formerly known as Lizzy), Japanese model Yano Shiho, comedienne Kim Ji Min, as well as former baseball players have also contributed to the relief effort.

Lee Byung-hun and Lee Min-jung have donated 100 million won to the Green Umbrella Children's Foundation asking them to support children who suffered from forest fires in the Gangwon area. 

 

Lee Byung-hun is a sponsor of the Green Umbrella Foundation, which has contributed to the campaign for helping children living in poverty through video narration.
