A lot of good photos from today's Outdoor Stage event for THE FORTRESS at BIFF. Definitely makes a great compilation later.

In the meantime, a short clip for now..

THE FORTRESS went down from number 2 to number 3 at the Korean B.O. for two days due to another new movie being released but has gone up to No.2 for the weekend tally, making it a 3.5 million admission. Hope it will continue to accumulate the audience rate despite the slowdown. Slow but steady.

On October 14, the starring group of  “The Fortress”  came to Haeundae in Busan for a stage greeting event and attracted a lot of supporting fans.  Lee Byung Hun said he is very happy to cooperate with a group of such strong actors.

LBH:   “During shooting of a movie, NG is caused by a variety of reasons:   forgetting lines and not delivering them smoothly; not showing sufficient emotions, etc. The truth is,  we are actors with our own individuality and with great acting skills gathering together.  There was no NG owing to lack of emotions.   Therefore, I am very happy to act among this group and truly enjoyed shooting the movie.”

Coming to Busan to greet fans, we can see Go Soo’s joy from his facial expressions.

GS:  “Weather is really good, very clear sky and blue sea.  Under this beautiful scenery, we become as one.  If the Busan Film Festival can become your permanent favourite, it would be great!”

BH Entertainment has signed a content production agreement with Sony Pictures Television.

On October 14, BH Entertainment stated that it will collaborate with Sony Pictures TV in remaking works from both countries as well as creating original content. The company is expected to play a key role in the media industry both in and outside of Korea through its cultural communication with Sony Pictures TV.

BH Entertainment shared, “Through this opportunity, we hope to be the stepping stone for Korea’s promising writers, directors, producers, as well as actors, to participate in various works globally.”

Wayne Garvie, the President of International Production for Sony Pictures TV, revealed that his team had been watching Korea’s media content closely. “The quality of content produced in Korea is quite high. Also, Korea’s content industry has been proving its capability as an innovative producer able to create global content that can gain popularity worldwide. We are glad to make a partnership with BH Entertainment,” he commented.

Sony Pictures TV’s co-head Chris Parnell also stated that he was happy to hold hands with the Korean company. “BH Entertainment is a frontrunner in the industry and I have very high expectations for the creative content we’ll create together with them in the future,” he said.

Actor Lee Byung Hun, who is under BH Entertainment, shared his excitement for the partnership as well. “I would like to pursue various new projects with Sony,” he hoped.

Meanwhile, BH Entertainment is home to many actors and actresses including Lee Byung Hun, Han Hyo Joo, Han Ji Min, Jin Goo, Go Soo, Kim Go Eun, and Han Ga In.

It's believed that BH's buddy Song Seung Hun (he's playing a villain role in the movie) invited him to the screening. Opening this Thursday, their movies will both be in the Korean box-office listing. THE FORTRESS is still at number 2 with 3.6 million admission, hopefully it'll make it to the 4 million mark.

Last week someone tweeted to ELBH that the screening of THE FORTRESS in LA was without English subs. But this LA Times excerpt stated that the movies comes with English subs, hopefully the glitch had been rectified.  Or perhaps, that the subs will only be available once the official screening started.

Lee Byung Hun will be in London for the LEAFF Opening on October 19 and the Q&A. Most likely he'll fly to LA for LACMA (right?) and maybe check out the screening as he did for Mag7 last year. With all the Korean promos and BIFF now over, the Lee family might be taking another quality time together in the USA. :)

A belated update just posted by Pierce Conran for KOFIC (seems he's been busy with various film festivals) on THE FORTRESS update. By now, The Outlaws has overtaken the top spot at the Korean Box Office as well as 3.8 million admission by having the most screenings, demanded by really good feedback by the moviegoers. Despite that, in media interviews, Lee Byung Hun (and other main cast of THE FORTRESS) has stated that it's really an honor to be in the movie.

THE FORTRESS Narrowly Edges out THE OUTLAWS for Chuseok Crown
KINGSMAN and I CAN SPEAK Round Out Busy Holiday Season

by Pierce Conran / KoBiz

A very busy holiday period culminated with a large 4.11 million admissions weekend, during which four major titles shared the spoils. Three among those were homegrown, contributing to a 76% local market share advantage.

After a big opening day, fueled by interest in its star lineup, Joseon Era siege drama The Fortress held on to enough of its audience to clinch a weekend victory with 1.37 million entries (USD 9.87 million). Over its first six days, HWANG Dong-hyuk (Miss Granny, 2014) helmed the film with LEE Byung-hun, KIM Yun-seok, PARK Hae-il and more, scored 3 million admissions (USD 21.76 million).

Though it opened down in third place on Tuesday, Don LEE-led crime thriller The Outlaws built some stellar word of mouth and was top of the charts by Sunday, which was enough for a close second place weekend total of 1.13 million viewers (USD 8.3 million), with 1.81 million spectators (USD 13.3 million) in its first six days and plenty more this week as it widens its gap in first place each day.

Following a stellar debut last week, Kingsman: The Golden Circle burnt out demand and fell 55% and two spots to third. The action sequel filled another 716,000 seats (USD 5.55 million) to give it an impressive 4.4 million entry total (USD 32.13 million), though it won’t have enough gas in the tank to catch up with the Korean total of its predecessor, which wound up with 6.13 million.

Down just 16% in its third spin on the charts was local sleeper hit I Can Speak, which filled another 463,000 seats (USD 3.28 million) to give it an impressive 2.87 million admissions (USD 19.85 million) haul. Meanwhile, the top five was rounded out by the Korean co-produced animation sequel The Nut Job 2, which had a lackluster 154,000 viewer (USD 1.02 million) weekend start and has sold 250,000 tickets (USD 1.66 million) since last Tuesday.

The Outlaws is well positioned to score a first place victory this weekend while Blade Runner 2049 should drum up some interest in second place. KWAK Kyung-taek’s local thriller RV: Resurrected Victims will also hit theaters over the frame.
