Definitely a well-deserved win for Lee Byung Hun in a super-tight best actor category. A great double win for Inside Men especially, a cool way to wrap up the year indeed. We sure hope "Master' will be just as awesome and even more, of course.

Little JoonHoo must be watching his Appa on tv tonight.   praise_good_job.gif

2016 Blue Dragon Awards

by girlfriday | Dramabeans.com

The 37th Blue Dragon Awards opened with a star-studded red carpet and awarded the biggest films of the past year, which included The Wailing, The Handmaiden, Dongju: The Portrait of Poet, and Train to Busan. The big winner among them was Inside Men, the timely political thriller about uncovering the shady relationship between a chaebol and a presidential candidate.

The film won Best Picture and its lead actor Lee Byung-heon picked up the Best Actor trophy as well, over Song Kang-ho, Kwak Do-won, Jung Woo-sung, and Ha Jung-woo. Lee made a political statement in his acceptance speech, saying, “When I read the screenplay for Inside Men, I wondered if the film’s subject was too exaggerated. I thought that it was making the social condition too dramatic. But now I think reality has overtaken the movie,” in reference to South Korea’s presidential scandal, which many have compared to the film’s plot.

Kim Min-hee beat out nominees Sohn Ye-jin, Yoon Yeo-jung, Han Ye-ri, and Kim Hye-soo for Best Actress in Park Chan-wook’s The Handmaiden, though she was not in attendance for the ceremony. The red carpet was full of up-and-comers though, many of whom have spent the last year in both film and dramaland, and for me the highlight was Park So-dam winning Best Supporting Actress for The Priests, and Park Jung-min winning New Actor for Dongju: The Portrait of a Poet. It was extra amusing to see him arrive with Dongju director Lee Jun-ik, following the director’s recent cameo stint in Entourage. Park Jung-min isn’t all that new—not like New Actress winner Kim Tae-ri, who debuted in The Handmaiden—but he’s certainly breaking out this year. It’s about time.

Lee Byung-hun wins best actor at Blue Dragon Film Awards

Source: The Korea Herald

Actor Lee Byung-hun nabbed the Blue Dragon Film Award for best actor for the first time in his 25-year career, and after seven previous nominations, for his role as a smooth-talking gangster in last November’s political thriller “Inside Men.”

“When I saw the script for “Inside Men,” I wondered if it exaggerated reality,” Lee said in his acceptance speech Friday at the awards ceremony at Kyung Hee University. “But ultimately it seems like reality has surpassed ‘Inside Men,’” he said, referring to the political scandal sweeping Korea involving Choi Soon-sil, under investigation for peddling unauthorized influence in state affairs and coercing funds from conglomerates.

Lee also addressed the mass candle vigils that have been calling for President Park Geun-hye’s resignation. “I had a belief that those candles would be candles of hope,” he said.

Lee’s character in the film, Ahn Sang-goo, is a mobster who ends up being crushed by larger political powers more ruthless and power-hungry than his group of fist-wielding crooks.

The 46-year-old actor debuted in 2001 with the military drama “Joint Security Area” and has since forayed into Hollywood, starring in blockbusters like “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” in 2009, “Terminator Genisys” in 2015, and “The Magnificent Seven” this year.

Among others nominated for the prize were Song Kang-ho for “The Age of Shadows,” Jung Woo-sung for “Asura: The City of Madness,” Kwak Do-won for “The Stranger (Goksung),” and Ha Jung-woo for “Tunnel.”

The award for best actress went to Kim Min-hee for her role as the lonely Japanese heiress Hideko in “The Handmaiden.” She beat out Kim Hye-soo, nominated for “Good Bye Single,” Son Ye-jin for “The Last Princess,” Youn Yuh-jung for “Bacchus Lady,” and Han Ye-ri for “Worst Woman.”

Kim, whose affair with married film director Hong Sang-soo was recently publicized, was not present at the ceremony. Producer Yoon Seok-chan of “The Handmaiden” received the award on her behalf.

“She worked harder than anyone on the film, from 2013 until last year’s sweltering summer,” he said. “It’s not easy to act in a foreign language. I will make sure to deliver the prize to her,” he said.

Other award recipients included Park So-dam, who won best supporting actress for “The Priests,” and Japanese actor Kunimura Jun, who won best supporting actor for “The Stranger.” The award for best director went to Na Hong-jin for “The Stranger,” while the award for the best film went to “Inside Men.”

The ceremony was moderated by actress Kim Hye-soo and actor Yoo Joon-sang.

The annual Blue Dragon Film Awards is considered one of Korea’s three most influential awards ceremonies. This year saw the 37th edition of the awards.

Remember how in the 2008 Blue Dragon Awards, the Wonder Girls sang 'Nobody' and highlighted Lee Byung Hun in their performance. Click HERE for compilation at EverythingLBH.com.

This time, LBH was once again highlighted (at 1:28 time-mark) in the stage performance at the Blue Dragon 2016, mentioned along with other stars. His 'Inside Men' catchphrase has been really popular and repeated by many, even in the current Kdramas.

MAMAMOO

MAMAMOO’s recent performance at the 37th Blue Dragon Film Awards, which took place on November 25, is being praised for the witty revisions they added to “Décalcomanie.”

They started out by paying respects to actress Kim Hye Soo, and Hwasa said, “I really love you” (at the 0:29 mark). Solar continued with a shout out to Kwak Do Won and child actor Kim Hwan Hee from “The Wailing.” In addition to changing up the lyrics to include their names, she parodied Kim Hwan Hee’s famous line from the movie, “What is, what is, what is important!?”

Lee Byung Hun

After the refrain (at 1:28), the members then turned their attention to Lee Byung Hun, and said one of his most memorable, comedic lines from “Inside Men,” “Do you want to go to mojito and drink a Maldives?”

The best line of the whole song, however, was when Moonbyul boldly asked Jung Woo Sung, “If I can [drink this] in one shot, do you want to date me?,” which is a well-known line from the actor’s 2004 film, “A Moment to Remember.”

At the very end, MAMAMOO finished their performance with an encouragement to everyone in the film industry.

Actor Lee Byung-hun and actress Kim Min-hee nabbed the best actor and actress awards at the 37th Blue Dragon Awards.

Held on Friday evening at Kyung Hee University, Lee was honored for his role in the political crime-thriller “Inside Men” (2015) and Kim for hers in the mystery-thriller “The Handmaiden” (2016).

“This is how it feels to receive an award at the Blue Dragon Awards,” said Lee, who played a gangster in last November’s hit, in his acceptance speech at the ceremony. “I’ve engaged in acting for the last 25 years but this is the first time I have won an award at the Blue Dragon Awards, which is truly an honor.”

“When I first read the scenario for [“Inside Men”], I thought it was too much of an exaggeration. However, I believe that reality now seems to have surpassed the movie,” Lee said, referring to the ongoing scandal revolving around the influence wielded by presidential friend Choi Soon-sil in the Park Geun-hye administration.

Actress Kim, who played a mysterious lesbian heiress in June’s hit, did not attend the ceremony. She has been refusing to make public appearance since a scandal erupted over her relationship with director Hong Sang-soo, who is 22 years her senior and also married with a child, following the release of “The Handmaiden.”

Instead, the producer of “The Handmaiden” Yoon Seok-chan received the award on her behalf and said, “Kim Min-hee worked harder than anyone else on the film from 2013 to last summer.

“Even though it wasn’t easy to act in a foreign language (Japanese), she overcame that difficulty and pulled off the role very well,” he said.

Other winners at the ceremony included filmmaker Na Hong-jin, who won the best director award for May’s mystery-thriller “The Wailing,” Japanese actor Kunimura Jun, who won best supporting actor for his role in “The Wailing” and actress Park So-dam, who won best supporting actress for her role in “The Priests” (2015).

Considered one of Korea’s most influential awards, this year’s Blue Dragon Awards ceremony was moderated by actor Yu Jun-sang and actress Kim Hye-soo.
