'Perfect Sync' Renee Zellweger · Rami Malek… An actor who played a real character

Source: MaxMovie.com (disclaimer: Google-translate)

[Max Movie = Reporter Jung Chan-hyuk] An actor is a person who acts as a character in a play. Actors add their own expressions and interpretations to breathe life into characters trapped in text. Actors, who become adult soldiers and sometimes become villains of villain, feel a lot of pressure when acting as poisonous real people. If everyone knows, there are limitations in expressing the character newly because there is an accurate comparison target. Nevertheless, great actors summon characters over the screen across the ages.

Spoiler

Renee Zellweger Stills from the movie Judy. Photo First Run

Renee Zellweger, who is familiar with 'Jerry McGuire', 'Bridget Jones' Diary', 'Chicago', and 'Cold Mountain', was transformed into a Hollywood legend actor and singer Judy Garland, and was highly praised. The film highlights the last London show that Judy Garland performed six months before she passed away. Renee Zellweger passed the heyday, delicately expressing the feelings of a person full of emptiness, and with the praise of the media, she won the Best Actress Awards, including the 77th Golden Globe and the 92nd Academy.

Spoiler

Renee Zellweger began training with a vocal coach a year before the official rehearsal. Renee Zellweger continued to study and listen to Judy Garland singing and speaking. In addition to singing, Renee Zellweger mastered the distinctive accents and tone and movement of the voices used in the performances. Renee Zellweger was about the same age as Judy Garland performed in London. Renee Zellweger has a look similar to Judy Garland with special makeup and weight loss. The costumes and makeup team investigated Judy Garland's hairstyle and makeup to find out what suited Renee Zellweger. The costumes on the stage and the usual costumes were completely different. From the gorgeous pattern suits worn at London concerts, the costumes worn at Mickey Dunn's wedding ceremony were also reproduced.

From appearance to song and voice tone, Renee Zellweger became a perfect Judy Garland, and she was amazed by her acting as if seeing Judy Garland herself, from small actions to sitting. Director Rupert Gould admires Renee Zellweger's expressiveness, which perfectly describes the appearance of Judy Garland, whose life was bent.

'Bohemian Rhapsody', which made the Queen fever in South Korea in 2018, was fully transformed into Ramie Malek as Queen Vocal Freddie Mercury. 'Bohemian Rhapsody' tells the story of an immigrant who was working as an airport baggage worker and raised a dream of music, rocking the world with the legendary rock band Queen's vocalist Freddie Mercury. The movie can enjoy more than 20 Queen's masterpieces and various stages. Stages completed with high synchro rates also produced numerous parody.

Spoiler

'Bohemian Rhapsody' attracted attention from the vocalist Freddie Mercury to guitarist Brian May (Gwilym Lee), bassist John Deacon (Joseph Magello), and drummer Roger Taylor (Ben Hardy) as if they were watching real members. Rami Malek was helped by a movement coach to fully represent the actual Freddie Mercury gesture. His usual posture, performance performance, gait, etc. were perfectly realized by referring to various videos on Queen's performance and Freddie Mercury.

"I tried to figure out the subject of Queen's song, put it in my life and get to know him," said Rami Malek. In the film, Rami Malek expressed Freddie Mercury's innate talents and passions, star stars, immigrants, bisexuals, and complexes. Rami Malek, who moved legendary vocals and his performances to the screen, won the 91st Academy Award for Best Actor and the 76th Golden Globe for Best Actor for 'Bohemian Rhapsody'.

Unlike Freddie Mercury, who died, Brian May, who is still active, spoke directly of his feelings for Gwilym Lee. Brian May acknowledged the high sync rate by saying, "I thought I was looking in the mirror the first time I went to the set and watched Gwilym Lee." After watching the Queen's stage in the movie, he admired, "It was amazing to capture the members' unique atmosphere and performance style perfectly."

Lee Byung-hun still in the movie 'The Directors of Namsan'. Photo Showbox

In Korea, Lee Byung Hun, Lee Sung Min and Lee Hee Jun played the actual figures in the movie 'Chiefs of Namsan' recently. Also known as 'The Man Standing Next' is a film about the 40 days before the assassination of the South Korean President by the Central Intelligence Agency Chief in the late 1970s. Based on the non-fiction of the same name written by Dong-A Ilbo reporter Kim Chung Sik, who wrote about the reality of the Central Intelligence Agency and the October 26 incident at the time of Park Jung Hee's regime.

The film deals with real events, but adds a cinematic imagination and does not include the names of real people. Kim Kyu Pyeong, played by Lee Byung Hun, is actually Kim Jae Gyu, the head of the Central Intelligence Agency, former president Park Jung Hee (President Park played by Lee Sung Min), former KCIA Chief Park Hyeong Wook (Park Yong Gak played by Kwak Do Won) and Cha Ji Cheol (Kwak Sang Cheon played by Lee Hee Jun), the security chief officer.

The film embodied much of the atmosphere of real people, such as Kim Jae Gyu, Cha Ji Cheol and former President Park Jung Hee. Lee Byung Hun often turns his bangs in the movie, which is also a habit of a real person.

At the media premiere, Lee Byung Hun said, “I really realized that acting a real person is a more difficult task.” "I tried to show the emotions of the characters based solely on the scenario." Lee Sung Min surprised everyone by utilizing the characteristics of former President Park Jung Hee in a completely different atmosphere. Lee Sung Min even had a silicone ear put on, acting with make-up tooth that could be seen protruding. It was implemented with reference to gait, posture, and hand shape. Lee Hee Jun showed enthusiasm such as gaining weight by 25kg for his work.

According to officials on the 30th, the production of 'Emergency Declaration' was originally scheduled to start in March, but the filming was delayed in the aftermath of the new coronavirus infection (Covid-19).  "We have put the time a little back to make sure we are ready."

Due to the worldwide virus outbreak, various filming schedules at home and abroad have been suspended. As stagnant domestic multiplexes ceased ticket sales, there was also an emergency situation in supplying new works that would otherwise attract the attention of the audience.

Spoiler

Song Kang-ho, Lee Byung-hun film put on hold due to coronavirus

By Lee Jae-lim INSIDE Korea JoongAng Daily

30200729.jpg

Actors Song Kang-ho’s and Lee Byung-hun’s next film “Declare Emergency” (translation) has not been able to start production due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, according to local media outlet Sports Chosun on Monday.

The film’s distribution company Showbox told the outlet that it has “delayed the start of the film’s production due to the outbreak.” The movie was supposed to start shooting this month.

“It’s difficult for us to decide when to go into production as we cannot predict [whether or not the outbreak will subside],” the company said.

As of now, the film’s production has been pushed back to May.

The aviation apocalypse film set on an airplane tells the story of characters in a predicament over where and how to land the aircraft as a virus breaks out on the ground below.

The film garnered a great deal of attention when it was announced that Song would be playing a lead role, especially after his success with director Bong Joon-ho’s “Parasite” that reaped trophies from the Cannes Film Festival, the Golden Globes, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards and the Academy Awards.

On top of that, the film is set to be Song’s and Lee’s fourth film together. The two have appeared together in “Joint Security Area” (2000), “The Good. The Bad, The Weird” (2008) and “The Age of Shadows” (2016), all of which were box-office hits.

Filming suspended indefinitely as COVID-19 spreads

By Choi Ji-won The Korea Herald

The impact of the novel coronavirus on the film industry may continue into early next year, as films not only postpone imminent releases, but suspend shootings and push back entire production schedules.

Filming of blockbuster aviation disaster flick “Emergency Declaration,” originally scheduled to start last month, has been postponed, according to the film’s distributor and investor Showbox.

“As the film is set inside a plane, it’s a big project in itself and requires more preparations compared to other films. With the coronavirus outbreak continuing, we have decided to take things more slowly,” a Showbox official told The Korea Herald on Wednesday, adding it is undecided when the shooting would start.

Helmed by director Han Je-rim of “The King” (2017) and “The Face Reader” (2013) and featuring a star-studded cast of Song Kang-ho, Lee Byung-hun, Jeon Do-yon and Kim Nam-gil, the film was a highly anticipated action-disaster flick.

Films with overseas sets have been hit hard by the COVID-19 spread, as travel has become restricted.

Last week, the crew and cast of “Bogota,” including lead actor Song Joong-ki, returned from Colombia as filming was suspended. The crime flick about a Korean man who moves to the South American country was expected to be shot mostly in Colombia.

“The entire ‘Bogota’ team is returning as of now. Their safety is of the utmost priority and we will decide on how to proceed with the shootings while monitoring the situation,” the film’s distributor Megabox Plus M said last week.

“Kidnapped,” starring Ha Jung-woo and Ju Ji-hoon, also put an early hold on the film's production in Morocco. Filming was scheduled to have started in March, but no new schedule has been decided on for now, the film’s distributor Showbox said.

Producers of the blockbuster “Negotiations,” featuring Hyun Bin and Hwang Jung-min, have tentatively called off filming in Jordan, proceeding with scenes in Korea first.

Spoiler

Yet even films being shot in Korea are finding it difficult to continue. A studio complex operated by the Korea Creative Content Agency in Daejeon -- Studio Cube -- reports seeing cancellations since the outbreak of the virus early this year.

“The six studios in the complex were reserved for nearly 1,600 days (total between them) last year, but we’re expecting less than 1,000 days for this year. Even that might be difficult,” an official from Studio Cube told The Korea Herald.

Spoiler

“Although we’re supported by the government, regarding the operations of the studios, the impact (from COVID-19) is huge even for us, and probably even worse for private studios,” the official said.

According to the official, two of the four big productions that had planned to use the studio this year had canceled reservations.

As the public is told to stay away from mass gatherings, locations often used for film shoots -- schools, hospitals and government properties -- are increasingly refusing to allow filming on site as it typically involves around 100 people gathering.

Meanwhile, Korean cinemas are seeing the lowest audience numbers in decades.

According to Korea Film Council data, around 1.83 million people visited the cinema last month. This is the lowest figure in KOFIC’s data since 2004, and nearly one-eighth of the number of people who went to the movies in the same period last year.

Dir. Kim Ji Woon: Although A BITTERSWEET LIFE may not be a life-changing movie for some people. It is a very meaningful movie to me. This is because in the 11 to 12 years that I have been working as a director.
Although this is neither a short or long period of time.
This movie expressed my style as a director, and the mood which I was in at the time of filming.
It was also a period in which Lee Byung-hun was re-discovered as an actor. Some people might even consider this movie to be similar to the 2nd prime time in his career.
It gave him the opportunity to become a big-time actor.

Spoiler

Furthermore it introduced the Noir genre to the general Korean audience and it clearly showed them what type of movie this genre entailed, and its view of the world.
So even though this may not seem like a big deal. It makes it more special and meaningful to me.
Although I already mentioned it a few times in previous interviews, 'it was a pleasure to be able to capture Lee Byung-hun's best moments on camera' during his middle 30s when he was still young.
I also consider it an honor to have able to film these special moments with the Noir genre and the use of Blu-ray Disc.

@peonie, I totally agree with you Barbara.. hopefully one day, BH and Dir. KJW will collaborate again. Not only their project(s) showcased LBH's best acting moments, but also KJW's best directorial work as well. They really do complement each other and bringing out the best from both. Hope BH will be in Dir. PCW's film next and then work with Dir Kim in another great script.

However, right now.. we're not sure what will happen to the currently scheduled projects due to the uncertainties caused by the pandemic. It doesn't really look like things are getting better (quickly) right now.. in many places, people are still going through the worst phase with no solution so far.

Delayed film productions mess up top actors' schedules

As the South Korean film industry has been battered by the coronavirus pandemic for months, top actors' upcoming projects have been affected by delayed productions and release schedules.

More than 50 domestic and foreign films have put off or canceled their premieres slated for the first half of this year since the number of COVID-19 cases started to rise sharply in mid-February.

The number of daily moviegoers plunged to a record low of 15,000 this week, compared with some 320,000 admissions on weekdays in January and 200,000 in February.

South Korean filmmakers and studios have postponed their shooting plans, including overseas schedules, due to fears over the novel coronavirus and worldwide travel bans.

As a result, cast members have had to rearrange their schedules for upcoming movies and dramas.

Lee Byung-hun, one of the most acclaimed actors in the South Korean entertainment scene, has a tight schedule this year, as he is poised to star in a film and a TV drama.

He was cast for a lead role in the disaster action movie "Emergency Declaration," along with Song Kang-ho and Jeon Do-yeon. Directed by Han Jae-rim, the all-star cast film is in pre-production, but its shooting has been delayed for about a month.

It will likely affect his upcoming TV drama "Here," written by star screenwriter Noh Hee-kyung, slated for later this year. The drama, set to air on cable channel JTBC, marks Lee's return to the small screen since "Mr. Sunshine" (2018).

Spoiler

Hwang Jung-min, one of the highest-grossing actors in South Korea with many box office hits, including "Ode to My Father" (2014), was to appear in the film "Negotiations" with Hyun Bin and the movie "Kidnapping" with Ha Jung-woo before continuing with dramas, including "Suriname" and "Hush" in the latter half of the year.

But the producers of "Negotiations" decided to put off the film's overseas schedule in Jordan and to go on shooting in South Korea instead. The filming of "Kidnapping" has also been put on hold indefinitely.

Unless the production of these films finishes as scheduled within the first half of the year, Hwang's drama appearances may be affected.

Actor Song Joong-ki is also in a quandary over his next project.

He returned to South Korea from Columbia in late March after wrapping up the filming of the movie "Bogota" earlier than scheduled due to the spread of the coronavirus in the South American region.

The delayed schedule of "Bogota" will likely have an impact on Song's decision on whether to take on the biographical movie "The Season of Us." (Yonhap)

4/9 Yesterday, BH visited MJ at her drama set. It was reported that he took Joonhoo along now that their little boy is older.. which is really sweet indeed, getting to see & cheer his Omma working. Minjung's 'two sons' showing strong support for her drama which is getting really good ratings as well.

4/10 Today Byunghun posted an old photo of himself, I'm sure all BH fans have seen this famous capture of an unsmiling boy with his dog companion. Can't remember who said it before.. but looks like little boy was crying before his photo taken with the dog. And fans were jealous looking at the warm, protective hug.
