willenette
*** Jaejoong got honest about his experience filming his upcoming drama “Bad Memory Eraser”! This will be his first true making into comic acting, he confessed, “There were many times when I suddenly became self-conscious and embarrassed while acting. I was especially embarrassed when I had to act while nearly nude in front of dozens of crew members. There’s a strong comedy element, but there are also many serious sides to the drama, so it felt like I was playing multiple roles. I hope that [‘Bad Memory Eraser’] becomes a drama that is fun to watch while also touching viewers’ hearts. While filming the scene where I talk to the dog Cola, I messed up a lot of takes because I kept bursting out laughing. However, I can confidently say that Cola is the main culprit who messed up more takes than I did.” Jaejoong also talked about what it was like to work with his co-stars Jin Se Yeon and Lee Jong Won, who plays his on-screen brother. He said, “Jin Se Yeon has the ability to brighten the filming set with her presence. She never stops smiling, and she is very focused while acting, so I had a lot to learn from her. Kyung Joo Yeon’s comic acting in the drama is especially top-notch, so make sure you don’t miss it. As for Lee Jong Won, he’s the cutie pie of the filming set. I was impressed by his flexibility during filming, and we’ve now become close like friends.” When asked about similarities between his character and his real-life personality, Jaejoong emphasized that they were very different when it came to romance. He shared, “I’m definitely not the bold-pursuit type.” Describing “Bad Memory Eraser” as a story of growth, Jaejoong concluded, “It’s a drama full of many different kinds of emotion: when you’re frustrated, it can give you a refreshing feeling, and when you feel empty, it can fill you up. I hope that you’ll tune in.” “Bad Memory Eraser” premieres on August 2 at 9:40 p.m. KST and will be available with subtitles on Viki. willenette
Exclusive: Kim Jae Joong And Jin Se Yeon Talk First Impressions, Their "Bad Memory Eraser" Characters, And More Kim Jae Joong and Jin Se Yeon have dished with Soompi about their latest drama “Bad Memory Eraser”! “Bad Memory Eraser” is a romance drama about Lee Kun (Kim Jae Joong), once a promising tennis player whose life changes due to a memory eraser, and neuropsychiatrist Kyung Joo Yeon (Jin Se Yeon), who unintentionally winds up becoming Lee Kun’s fake first love through memory manipulation. Along with the drama’s recent premiere, the two actors took time to chat with Soompi about their drama and reveal more about themselves. Read the full interview below! What were your first impressions of the “Bad Memory Eraser” script? Kim Jae Joong: I was greatly attracted to being able to play a character with two completely different personalities in one project. Also, the script was fun and touching at the same time. Jin Se Yeon: I really enjoyed reading the script the first time and was completely immersed without analyzing at all. Then I read it again, concentrating on the characters, and I felt like I really wanted to give it a try. I didn’t want to miss this project because I thought it’s not just a typical rom-com but one with distinctive characters. What were your first impressions of each other, and what are your current impressions? Kim Jae Joong: My first impression of Jin Se Yeon was that she was like an angel. As I got to know her better, I realized that she truly is an angel-like person. Jin Se Yeon: Kim Jae Joong was a huge top star in Korea and overseas when I was in middle school, so I was nervous but excited to work with him! I could feel his bright energy right away when he greeted me at the script reading. When I saw how he took care of everyone in such a short period of time, I thought he was a really nice person, and even now, that impression is still the same! What did you especially focus on or prepare for your role in “Bad Memory Eraser”? Kim Jae Joong: I had to manage significant fluctuations in tension. Depending on the scenes I was filming, I had to portray Lee Kun both before and after losing his memory several times a day, which was quite challenging. I had to change everything from my posture to my gaze, facial expressions, and even my way of speaking. Jin Se Yeon: When working, Kyung Joo Yeon is rational and stern to the point where she might seem harsh and cold. However, she is clumsy when it comes to love. I wanted to portray this lovable character in a multi-dimensional way. I focused most on ensuring that the transition between her different sides appears natural, reducing the gap between these traits. If not done carefully, it could make her seem like a different character. My biggest hope was that Kyung Joo Yeon’s journey of learning about love would come across as endearing. What do you think is the MBTI of your character? Jin Se Yeon: I think she might be a complete INTJ! She is always poker-faced, feels more comfortable being alone, and is a workaholic who is a professional at what she does! What do you think is the greatest charm of each other’s character? Kim Jae Joong: Kyung Joo Yeon is a person with clear personal beliefs and values goodwill. The moments when she occasionally expresses her genuine heart are especially endearing. She is like a traffic light, making you wait while maintaining distance but then pulling you in in an instant. Jin Se Yeon: Starting from episode 2, Lee Kun appears with overflowing confidence, and that self-assured and bold demeanor comes across as truly charming. And since he loves Joo Yeon as much as he loves himself, this adds to the heart-fluttering moments. It must be because Jae Joong did such a great job portraying the character, right? What was the most difficult scene to film? Kim Jae Joong: When portraying the dark side of Lee Kun, I almost shed tears as many times as I took breaths. He is an incredibly heartbreaking character. The emotional scene with Lee Shin (Lee Jong Won) on the Han River bridge also took a very long time to film. It was an extremely tough shoot, both emotionally and due to the cold weather. Jin Se Yeon: There was a time when we went by the sea for filming in the winter. The weather was cold, the wind was blowing hard, and I had to convey sad emotions, so there were so many aspects I needed to pay attention to. On top of that, I had to slap Jae Joong’s cheek, so I was really worried because getting slapped on such a cold winter day must have been extremely painful. What would you think if an actual “bad memory eraser” existed? Kim Jae Joong: For someone suffering from excessive trauma, it might be a grateful medical solution, but the idea of completely erasing bad memories seems too fantasy-like. Jin Se Yeon: I think it might be a bit unfortunate. While the idea of erasing painful or bad memories might seem ideal, I worry that eventually, people might start wanting to erase even the smallest of inconveniences in the future. There are certainly memories among them that, despite being failures, help us grow more mature and wiser. If people start erasing even those experiences, it would indeed be quite unfortunate. What is your own way of overcoming bad memories? Kim Jae Joong: I gradually overwrite them with good memories. Jin Se Yeon: Since I started believing that wasting time on unnecessary emotions is pointless, I’ve been trying not to let them bother me. My way of overcoming bad memories is to make an effort not to think about them at all. What is a role you haven’t tried yet that you would like to try acting in the future? Kim Jae Joong: I want to try a father role. Jin Se Yeon: I’ve played many characters who wear suits, so I’d actually like to try portraying someone without a job or maybe a college student role. When I wear a suit, I unconsciously become more rigid, and my acting can become stiff, too. I’d like to break free from those constraints and try a more relaxed style of acting. Do you monitor your own acting a lot? Kim Jae Joong: I have trouble doing so a lot because it feels embarrassing. Jin Se Yeon: I always monitor my acting but still feel a bit embarrassed when watching. I tend to focus a lot on analyzing expressions and lines, thinking about how I could have done better. Spoiler What have you enjoyed watching the most on YouTube recently? Kim Jae Joong: I still enjoy watching “Infinite Challenge.” I also like content related to science and history. And of course, anything related to food. Jin Se Yeon: I usually enjoy watching videos of puppies. I also like watching videos of factories making snacks or cakes because these kinds of videos are so addicting. I also occasionally watch channels that create good music videos set to music. What do you usually drink at cafes? Kim Jae Joong: I drink Iced Americano. Jin Se Yeon: In the summer, I often drink ade or blended beverages, and in the winter, I drink a lot of tea. I especially enjoy beverages with fruit. Please share any TMI with fans! Kim Jae Joong: I haven’t had a single meal yet today. For the record, I feel the greatest happiness when I’m eating. Jin Se Yeon: Coincidentally, there was a question about what I usually drink at cafes. Lately, I’ve been drinking an ade every day, so I was delighted to receive a question about what I drink! Please share a message for international fans tuning in to “Bad Memory Eraser”! Kim Jae Joong: It’s a drama that gets more captivating and lovable the more you watch. Please make sure to watch closely as the unpredictable plot unfolds. Jin Se Yeon: Since this is my first project in a while, I’m both excited and nervous. However, the atmosphere on set was fantastic, and the chemistry among the actors was also great. While our drama is a rom-com, I would also describe it as a healing drama that addresses and helps heal trauma and worries. Please tune in! willenette
First Impressions: "Bad Memory Eraser" Is An Intriguing, Interesting, And Emotive K-Drama How important are memories in life? And why are bad memories the hardest to forget? That seems to be the premise in which “Bad Memory Eraser” starts. This new K-drama starring Kim Jae Joong and Jin Se Yeon follows the story of Lee Kun (Kim Jae Joong), a once promising tennis player, and Kyung Joo Yeon, an icy psychiatrist who is eagerly working on a new procedure that would be able to erase bad memories from one’s brain. But could science really be the answer to the pains of the heart? That’s exactly what we will find out in this show! Warning: spoilers from episodes 1-2 ahead! Being highly talented at tennis since a young age, Lee Kun seems to have a bright future ahead of him as the youngest winner of a world championship at barely 13 years old. However, the same day of his victory, he sees all of his dreams frustrated when he breaks his wrist trying to save his younger brother from an injury. With his incipient career now vanished, his family makes the decision to leave him behind and put his brother in his place to go for training to Australia. Having a successful child might be one of the biggest dreams for any parent, but to sacrifice one of your own children only to see that dream come true looks like too big of a price to pay. However, that’s exactly what Kun’s family does, and apparently he’s the only one who still has to carry on with the consequences of those decisions. Spoiler Fast forward to present time, Lee Kun is a depressed man with extremely low self-esteem due to the hardships he’s encountered throughout his life since his accident. He’s unable to shake off the ghost of his past, being pushed around by his own parents, having to work as his younger brother’s manager, and being mistreated by all the people who used to admire him when he was a child. Though his life clearly looks like a living hell, he still has something to look forward to and that is meeting his first love after a long time. As everybody needs a sliver of hope to keep on living, for Lee Kun that is the young girl he met the day his family abandoned him. She saved him from drowning in a river. However, his pitiful situation and insecurities make him doubt whether he should meet her again. Coincidentally, on his flight back to South Korea, he meets Kyung Joo Yeon, a very professional psychiatrist, who, ironically, lacks a lot in the social skills department (something that proves to be more than problematic later on). She is working on an important project researching what might become a new treatment to erase traumatic memories. Although it isn’t shown what it is, it’s clearly hinted that Joo Yeon might have more than just an academic interest in this project, as she seems to wish to erase some bad memories of her own. Their meeting, as with many K-dramas, isn’t ideal, since Lee Kun continues to meddle in her life unintentionally: first, by switching their luggage at the airport, which contains very important information for Joo Yeon. They also meet in the ER after Lee Kun has a triggering experience that causes him to suffer from extreme pain in his wrist. Joo Yeon points out that the pain that afflicts him comes solely from his traumatic memories rather than real pain, which she later proves by getting him out of his panic state. She sees that he is in a rather poor state so she tries to encourage him to meet his first love. But he cuts her off directly when he asks her what would happen to him if he were to ever lose those good memories that keep him alive. The peak of their tense encounters arrives the moment Joo Yeon and her team accidentally loses the mouse which is the proof of their psychological research. Though this is a world of fiction, one would expect for a fancy laboratory to at least make sure that their cages are not broken. With the little mouse on the loose, she hurries after it, trying to save all the work she’s done so far. But as Lee Kun has proven to have very bad luck, he arrives at that moment, running over the little thing with his van. Despite trying to apologize for the incident and unaware of what he’s done, Joo Yeon charges against him with the full power of her frustration and hatred, not even realizing the damage she is inflicting on him. After this moment, she goes on and tries to save the future of her job by proposing to apply the experiment on a human subject, someone who might be in an extreme situation and in dire need of a second chance at life. Surprisingly, Lee Kun arrives at the hospital, fighting for his life. With the approval of his family, he is subjected to the memory eraser, giving him the chance to forget all about his painful past. By the time he wakes up, he is a completely different person. Now that he doesn’t have the burden of his bad memories, he has the confidence and charisma that nobody thought he could have. And though he’s concerned about his lost past, even his family seems to accept the new version of him. The problem? The interference of Kyung Joo Yeon during his procedure makes him believe that she is his first love, and he’s determined to pursue her until she accepts his feelings. Puzzled by the result of the surgery and conflicted by the side effects of it, Joo Yeon later on finds out that one of the reasons behind his accident was because he found his first love with none other than his younger brother, Lee Shin (Lee Jong Won). Completely disappointed by losing everything in his life once again, he confronts his family for the first time, pointing out all the mistreatment he’s suffered in their hands, giving us one of the saddest confrontations so far. Even more, by the end of the episodes, it is open to interpretation that there’s more to know behind Lee Kun’s accident. There’s not only the guilt that his parents feel for the mistreatments towards their son, but maybe even his younger brother’s implication in the matter. With this new information, Joo Yeon sees Lee Kun in a new light and decides to keep the lie to protect this new chance he has to restart his life, maybe even to go back to being a tennis player. After all, that is exactly the goal of their experiment. However, as the memories disappear from Kun’s mind, will ignorance, or in this case oblivion, be a true blessing for him? And how will Joo Yeon’s impersonation as his first love turn out when his true first love appears in his life again? Since it’s too early to tell right now, we shall continue watching how things will unfold in the upcoming episodes of “Bad Memory Eraser”! Catch the first episodes of “Bad Memory Eraser” below! willenette
*** On August 11, Jaejoong connected with his fans at 'Inkigayo.' Fans had gathered outside the 'Inkigayo' studio in the early hours of the morning. This marked his 1st appearance on the show in (16) years. Jaejoong comments, “It’s been a long time, but it feels like returning home. Everything’s the same and familiar.” It's been long, so incredibly long but I am happy that Jaejoong and his fans can have this moment again. Using a sketchbook, Jaejoong communicated with his fans through a series of handwritten messages like : "If you can see this, put your hand above your head", "Do you have to go to work tomorrow?", "Did you come here after having dinner?", "If you love me, give me a heart!" He even asked his fans if they wanted him to come downstairs. When he did come down, he greeted his fans from behind a glass wall, as he was unable to step outside. To further express his gratitude, Jaejoong treated his fans to a coffee truck, thanking them for their support at the music program. This is so cute! Jaejoong is a nice person. Jaejoong never changed his love for fans still so pure and beautiful. I am so glad that he can now perform on stage in Korea. He has been very active since his return... It's bittersweet that he's finally free and able to appear on music shows in Korea. I am forever bitter with SM about that (regardless of who's fault it was). I really hope he's finally got a weight off his shoulders and feels happier. I hope he continues to perform more. I am so happy for him! Jaejoong is a gem! He looks not a day older. It's as if time froze - LOL - Spoiler photos source : allkpop
