Synopsis: (KBS WORLD)

“Entering Korea’s top prestigious university is a breeze if you are equipped with perseverance, study skills and a careful strategy”

Kang Seok-ho, a former juvenile delinquent–turned-lawyer, is requested to take care of the liquidation of Byeong-mun High School. Looking at the difficult situation the school goes through, Seok-ho decides to save the school and the one and only solution he comes up with to keep the school from breakup is produce as many as Cheon-ha University (CU) applicants.

Seok-ho expects that if the school continues to increase the number of CU applicants every year, more students want to apply for the school, and that helps Byeong-mun overcome its financial difficulties. He is allowed to set up a special class on condition that he would bring 5 students in three days and raise their grades to the point where they can enter Cheon-ha University without difficulty.

Meanwhile, a group of creditors barges into Hwang Baek-hyeon’s place. Baek-hyeon, a student of Byeong-mun high, is a juvenile delinquent who has no interest in study. Out of sympathy, Seok-ho mobilizes all the knowledge he can to save Baek-hyeon’s family. He emphasizes the importance of learning to Baek-hyeon by saying “If you don’t want to be deceived by others, all you can do is study, study and study!!!”

Full of great anticipation, Seok-ho embarks on the special class. He makes the five students live together and invites high-profile instructors.

Now the journey to reviving the troubled Byeong-mun high begins!

Terroir Replaces Lord/Master of Study

SBS has decided on Terroir, the first wine drama in Korea to be the follow-up drama to Tazza instead of Lord of Study which has ran into production issues. Terroir will premiere on 1st December in the Mon-Tue timeslot.

According to SBS today, "We decided on Terroir to be the follow-up drama to Tazza and it will premiere on 1st December." Lord of Study which has confirmed Oh Ji Ho, Park Ye Jin, Lee Hong Gi, etc as it's cast has ran into some production issues and was probably not going to make it in time for broadcast.

Terroir was originally set for broadcast anyway on 1st December earlier this year when it was confirmed in production. But SBS decided to delay it's broadcast to next year after deciding on pitting Lord of Study against KBS Boys Over Flowers drama. Looks like it's back to square one for SBS after a rather hasty decision initially when it decided to make Lord of Study.

Terroir is the comeback drama for both Kim Joo Hyuk and Han Hye Jin and has been attracting lots of attention before filming. Han Hye Jin's portrayal of Soh Suh No in Jumong had left a deep impression on viewers. This time, she will be playing Lee Woo Joo, a bright and cheerful wine producer with a acute sense of smell. Yoo Sun plays Kang Tae Min's (Kim Joo Hyuk) lover in his memory.

Terroir has currently completed 4 episodes of filming which will be set in a grape wine restaurant also known as Terroir. It will seek to show viewers the history of wine making, tradition, background, etc from different perspectives through the eyes of the cast caught in the conflict, romance, dreams, etc. Total production cost have exceeded 6 billion KRW and is considered to be a big budget drama having been in production for the past 2 years.

About a year ago, a remake of the Japanese drama series Dragon Zakura was being prepared to be broadcast on SBS with Park Ye Jin, Lee Hong Ki, Oh Ji Ho, etc confirmed for Korean version titled Lord of Study. Production difficulties however curtailed the production which had been hastily assembled in the first place.

But it looks like the remake will finally happen.

Production company, Drama House who last produced Painter of the Wind, announced on the 19th that they would be producing the Korean version of Dragon Zakura and that will be aired over KBS2TV in early 2010.

The story is adapted from the similarly titled Japanese manga and is about a group of students in one of the worst schools in Japan, and their challenge to get into a top university. The manga and drama adaptation has not only seen good results in reader and viewership, it has also boosted the number of Tokyo University applications by 12%.

The Korea version is expected to take a similar route as the Japanese version and will reveal to viewers the faults that lie with the Korean education system these days and their ideal education system. The drama title has not been decided yet.

Kim Suro will reprise the role of teacher Kang Suk Ho (Sakuragi Keniji), a a poor lawyer and former gang member and was played by Abe Hiroshi in the Japanese version. Yoo Seung Ho meanwhile will get the rebellious student role of Hwang Baekhyun (Yajima Yuusuke).

Auditions are currently being held for the other roles and filming will begin once everything is finalized. If everything goes according to plan, it will premiere on 4th January, 2010, replacing Invincible Lee Pyung Kang in the Mon-Tue timeslot.

Will it be a runaway success like Boys Over Flowers? We will have to wait and see.

the trailer came out today. it has a lighthearted, comedic feel to it (like it's supposed to). yoo seung ho looks good LMAO i hope they can inject a korean vibe to dragon zakura (i watched and enjoyed the jdrama... so yea ). just judging from the trailer, i feel a different vibe from the original which is good. kim su ro has interpreted his character his own way (it appears that way). im looking forward to this drama! i'll be in korea during its first episode so i can catch it then yay!!
