Guest goddessofkrw
Last week, I got a perm; however, the hair wasn't as curly as what I wanted even before I left the salon. It's like a loose/wornout curl. The hairstylist said it's probably because this is my first perm that's why. Anyways I believed her and left. It's been a week now an my hair is almost straight now, literally! If I put on tons of mousse, then I can still manage to make it look a little curly. But I keep thinking that although this is my first perm, it shouldn't be that weak, at least not 1 week! So I would like to ask for those who have perm their hair before, how long did it last? And did u hafta put on tons of styling product to maintain the curliness? In addition, how long was your perm because mine was only 2 hours and my friend told me that hers was more than 3 hours! Guest L♥VE
The first perm I got lasted about a year, and it was still pretty curly even after 8 months? I didn't need to use any styling products, and the perm itself took about 2 hours, also.

She didnt do a good job. go back and get her to re-do again.

Guest felinius
It might be the kind of hair you have. Is it thick or thin? Between me and my mom, mine only last a month and my hair is thin while my mom's lasts a lot longer than mine and her's is thick. All of my perms have been two to three hours long by a lot of different hair stylists. (And this was on the tight curl before it's an afro! lol) We had to do too much maintenance with a perm ... from brushing hair a certain way and using a certain mixture for the hair to using the right kind of shampoo. Guest alicimoo
My perm took around 3 hours. It lasted for 3 months, but that could have also been partly because I had swim practice everyday for around 2.5 months. After that I had to put some effort into maintaining the curls so they wouldn't frizz out. It eventually became wavy/straight (my natural hair) after about a year. (This was my first perm). Guest kireisnowtenshi
LOL...a year?! A perm last that long?! ... I need to get a Japanese perm...always wanted to try it... well I just put a perm on my hair, the first for me in like...11 or 12 years...and well it didnt last long only for like 3 weeks. But then again...it isnt to make it curly...straight instead so that would explain it.
Guest alicimoo
^ It's still supposed to last longer than 3 weeks. At least 3-6 months.
Guest motherducker
haha, I got a perm like 4 years ago... And I still have it >__> Ive cutted my hair many times, but it still grows out curly. I think my hair got "naturally" curly even though I had super straight hair before.

HOSHIKO--
i think it depends on where you get it, but i think getting a perm at an Asian hair salon is much better than all the other hair salons. When i first got mine, it last for about a year & some months, and took about 2-3 hours. Well, umm ...when my hair grew out, it started growing to it's natural wavy, curly form, so i had to use hair serums/deep conditioners too keep it silky straight. I think it's better if you straighten your roots. i hope this helps, sorry for the lack of info ^^"
Guest azzer
My first perm lasted around a year (I mean obviously it was quite loose towards the end of the year but it was still wavy). I'm on my second perm right now. I got this one done with bigger curls than the last one so I think it won't last as long. Howver, I'm going on 4-5 months and it's still looking good. Guest Rainie
I got a digital perm 2 years ago, and I still have it. My hair's not curly anymore, it's more wavy now.
Guest puddding
my perm lasts for a long time i usually keep it for about half a year then i think it looks kind of weird with half curly hair and the top really straight flat hair so i cut it but i got mine done twice both lasted for about 8 months until i cut it off it was still curly though it sounds like she did a bad job :sweatingbullets:
Guest esxtee
It depends where you get it and how fast your hair grows and probably the condition of your hair. My friend got it 2 years ago and it still looks like she got it recently permed.
Guest seafoam_green
I got my perm around a month++ ago (digital perm), and so far, the curls are still holding up. I found out that leave-on conditioners work best, 'coz mousse has the tendency to weigh the hair down. Plus, you MUST NOT brush your hair - perhaps just give it a quick comb to detangle the strands after shower. hm, what else... find hair products that are specifically made for curly/colored/permed hair. try the Elsieve brand (the red one), and any other curl-enhancing leave-on conditioners. here's how my perm looks today:
Guest Aravis
I got my perm about 7 months ago (second perm). My curls are still holding up. Did you wash your hair right after the perm? You should wait at least a full day before washing your hair. If not, then the salon did a bad job and you can probably get it redone for free.
