So according to Coolsmurf, Goo Hye Sun will be playing the part of Makino in the Korean version. Honestly, I'm not so sure about how well the Korean version is going to turn out. I really liked Goo Hye Sun in the King and I, but I'm not sure how well she'll match up to actresses like Inoue Mao who played Makino in the Japanese Version and Barbie Xu who did a decent job in the Taiwanese version. Both dramas were total sucesses in their countries and the Korean version has to live up to it.

They're casting almost total unknowns (with the exception of Hyung Joon, and this will be his first real acting experience) and to be frank, they have to do BETTER than the actors in the previous dramas. They are going to be watched by people world wide who know the manga, anime and previous dramas by heart. There will be direct comparrisons and anything less than perfection will be highly criticised. Admittedly all the actors in the previous dramas were pretty much unknowns, with the exception of Jun Matsumoto and Shun Oguri. But in the Taiwanese drama, there was nothing to compare it to. And when the Japanese version came out, it was just, SO good.

All the previous actors have set a pretty high bar for the Korean actors. Can these relatively unknowns meet it? I don't know, but I look forward to finding out.

acting-wise, it's sure hard to beat the likes of inoue mao, matsujun and oguri shun since they're just good! japanese version is my favorite hands down. but i have to admit at first it was really hard for me to see matsujun as domyoji because at first glance he just didn't look the part (he's tiny whereas domyoji supposed to be lanky) and shun didn't strike me as good looking enough to be rui (vic was my ideal rui) but their marvelous acting saved the day

but the korean casts, they have the advantage of that look-wise they fit the F4 shoes well. let's hope they have the acting chops to match

seriously the korean cast for the show isnt OMG PERFECT... but its still good~!

hopefully, they will not make this a cheesy high school drama that will be all awkward acting and such... that would totally suck :X

but so excited... can't wait 'till it comes out!!!!

omg.. in my opinion, they looked for the krn guy who look like the japanese guy but a little better, KIM BUM IS SOOOOO MUCH BETTER, and HJ and the jpnese guy actually look a lot alike, REALLY PRETTY... the rest is just bleh XD... altho i dont like the female lead, i'll watch it for the boys =P

well hope group 8 dont screw this over like they did with goong s

My favorite actress gets to play the lead in a highly anticipated series!!! After two years of watching the lovely, talented, angelic Goo Hye-Sun hiding behind a veil of frowns, tears, and sadness through a couple of meloncholy period pieces, we'll once again get to see her mugging and smiling for the camera. Nobody does it better than the little rubber-faced star of Pure in Heart. Welcome home "Gukwha-ssi." I can't tell you how much I've missed you!!! :blush:

It's interesting how they chose Goo Hye Sun.. I would have thought they would pick a new face for the part.. Though I'm not complaining since I think she's a decent actress and I loved her in nonstop 5, I think she just need to put in a few pounds.. She's skinny as heck and I would prefer someone much more fuller to play Makino's character as she is a tough cookie..

As for the boys, they have chosen well to pick an actor for the lead role rather than a singer trying to breakthrough into acting for the part. Sure HJ was picked for Rui, but I prefer Domyouji to be played by an actual actor with a few roles done under his belt. Though I do hope for a lot more screen time for Kim Bum. He was absolutely great in East Of Eden.

They do have a lot to live up to, especially the Japanese version (and in IMO the Taiwan version was kind of too corny and dragging, while the Japanese was spot on!). I do hope for the best for them all.

Let's hope she brings the same fire or even hotter (Makino really spunky...though farm girl was pretty spunky too! Love her in Pure 19, I sure miss 'farm girl' too! I think she will put her spin on the role Makino and make us proud!

I feel a little bit of surprise while knowing Gu Hye Sun will be playing makino role...but ok...

She is a good actress I have to say, watching her in Pure 19 and Strongest Chil woo, her acting has been improved...so I expect she could play makino's role well....Because makino is one of the important role in the drama....Many people would say she's a bit old, but she doesn't look like that. I was once surprised again to learn that she is born in 84, but for me she is still like in 85 or 86. The Japanese cast play the role very well... so I hope the korean version drama will also interesting... Really looking forward to watch the drama...hope it's not dragging...

but as for the school I'm not sure whether they will shoot there which post by lilcrash, coz from what I know , the picture is the Venetian Macau resort, hotel and casino which is used for one of the shooting location for drama East of eden... would it turn out to be a school place ???hmm...I don't think so...

hmm... i never would've thought that goo hye sun would fit the role of makino. But since she's a good actress, im sure she'll make the character fit her. Initially, i thought go arah would be the perfect choice since she has that shoujo manga look about her. well, we'll see how it turns out. As for the f4 cast... they're all hot so no complaints there. Especially Kim bum (now, he can act! loved him in east of eden) and Hyunjoon. muehehehhe.... wish they had bigbang's Top as one of the f4 since he is just soooo fine. But oh wells. whatever.

I'm very happy with Hanazawa Rui being played by Kim Hyun Joong. And I'm satisfied with the Akira one. Lee Min Ho...well, I guess it's ok. Kim Bum as Sojiro I'm not too thrilled about honestly. I am definitely not thrilled about Goo Hye Sun being Makino. I'm still pretty excited to see how Korea will remake it though. AND WOW THAT IS A GORGEOUS PLACE TO FILM AS THE SCHOOL!!!!! >.< I don't think I can wait until January to see how this will be...

Heard that sooyoung and yuri are the BEST at acting. sorry to say, they failed to be considered an actress in usm. I do not wanna see them here and also in master of study. Sorry if my comment is too harsh. totally agree with ya valleygirl. And yes sayroo i am really HAPPY with hye sun.she was my 1st choice with ahra. But thought because of her age.. But she looks young! Ok. Last post here!

Japanese Doumyouji might be short and not good looking ... But he play the role perfectly ... Even Jerry Yan's handsome face can't be compared to the image of Domyouji he portrayed ... He has that charisma ... I like his arrogant acting but sometimes he's can be really cute too as Domyouji ...

As for Goo Hye Sun, i don't really like her personally ... I would prefer Park Min Ji ... But since they've decided it ... What can i say ... Looking forward to it ... I've watched Japanese and Taiwanese version ... I like Japanese version better ... We'll see if the Korean version will be even better than the Japanese one ... But i may say looks like Matsumoto Jun's Domyouji will be hard to beat ... He's just too perfect for me ... I'm not Arashi or Matsumoto Jun, i just like him as Domyouji ... In fact, i never watch his any other work beside HYD ... Really in love with him in HYD ...

I thought he had really bad acting as Domyouji. I mean if you didn't read the manga before watching then I suppose you can think his acting is good. Jerry was just ...fail..an angry person lol. Sorry I just hated both versions so Im prob biased lol ;_; I guess the Domyouji from the book will never come to life

even you say that seems they still bad, about yoo na is she acted good or still bad??. i am Glad the PD not take a girl band member. Wonder Girl so popular in korea but still they not take them if they want Soo hee which is so popular could take but they not. honestly i am rather seeing an actress that i dunno like goo hye sun than that girl band sorry being harsh
