Devine.Integrity Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Nasty Virtual Cockroaches are appearing. So today, I was going to download a video from usaupload.com when it suddenly opened this other popup, I however did not see the popup for I closed the window immediatley, and now Im having this popup that looks like this: Also, at the time of the attack, my desktop screen saver turned blue and said "WARNING YOU HAVE SPYWARE", I deleted it...I think as I changed the desktop bg. Im afraid to either click "Yes" Or "No" so I just leave it there hanging. What really worries me is that it says "private data, such as BANKING INFORMATION, passwords, and send it to attackers"." I do have Norton, but of course those virus protecters cant really help sometimes.
Guest vussen Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Definitely smell like spyware.. U should look at the spyware thread and download an anti-spyware software to scan and remove it. I myself use Superantispyware Free Edition and dont complain. And also, u should get rid of Norton Antivirus. It isnt that good, and use a lot of power on ur computer, making it slow. U should get another less heavy antivirus, I myself use Avira AntiVir Personal (free version) and dont complain about that either. Hope u get ur problem solved.
Devine.Integrity Posted May 23, 2008 Author Posted May 23, 2008 ^Hey thanks for your recommendation. Im still using it and going through the process of searching for some softwares. Okay guys its getting worse. When I opened up my computer, I saw a bunch of cockroaches appearing out of nowhere 0_0. I know it seems wierd, but thats what I saw. Big fat juicy nasty cockroaches running around my computer like a virus. I also got this message now "CAN NOT FIND SCRIPT FILE "C:/DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS/ ............/LOCAL SETTINGS/TEMP/.ttA.tmp.vbs*. BTW....I was wondering, I just backed up my files right now, I was wondering if the Virus can somehow reappear if I ever reboot my computer again when I upload the files back.
awdark Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 O_o on the screen or physically from your computer? Eh don't forget about the power of system restore! Helped me get rid of a lot of problems if you just restore it to a few days back
Devine.Integrity Posted May 23, 2008 Author Posted May 23, 2008 ^Awdark. I tried to do a system restore yesterday. I dont know, but I couldnt go back to a previous date. I only had the choice of May 22, 3008 [The Day I got the spyware warning], and certain time of that day. Well...I choose May 22nd for an earlier time to do the restoration and the restoration FAILED. So, the spyware screen came back as my wallpaper. Still has virtual cockroaches [not real ones], they are just these cockroaches that eat your screen, and still has the warning of a Malware alert.
Devine.Integrity Posted May 23, 2008 Author Posted May 23, 2008 ^Will those people help me? Anyways, When I logged in this morning, it said that my anti virus has deleted a virus...thats all. Cockroach came up, and still that "Windows Script Host" shows up.
Guest naoto Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 you guys are suggesting solutions that are way too complicated!! Hijackthis is so dangerous for a novice to use. Devine.Integrity - I think the best solution is to format the computer. It sounds like it has a ton of garbage on it, so just wipe everything out. But if you don't want to do that then try these. ***One anti-spyware is never enough to clean your computer. No program can detect everything. So get a few and use them all.** 1. Get Ad-Aware. It is free! Easy to use, and a popular program. Scan your computer. http://lavasoft.com 2. Get Spybot. It is also free, and a very good anti-spyware program. Scan your computer. http://www.safer-networking.org 3. Go to staples or something and buy an anti-spyware program. If you are a smart cookie you will go into the settings for the two above and disable autostart (run when windows starts). The one you buy, leave it running all the time. This will help detect/delete spyware as soon as you get it. I recommend Webroot Spysweeper, or Spyware Doctor. Both are excellent. Virusscan does not detect anti-spyware most of the time, all of them are like that. Anything else, message me. Good luck!!
Devine.Integrity Posted May 23, 2008 Author Posted May 23, 2008 ^For the adware one, do I just install it and let it run, or do I also have to turn off that other antivirus [norton] that I have? Same question for the spybot. Also, do you think if I backup my files, the virus can appear again once I format my computer and reupload the backupfiles back to my computer? thanks for your suggestions, I just want to make sure. O_o on the screen or physically from your computer? Eh don't forget about the power of system restore! Helped me get rid of a lot of problems if you just restore it to a few days back Tried system restore again to Tuesday, May 20th. But then got still had that spyware wallpaper and those ugly cockroaches + that .vbs error.

In the worse possible case a format will be the result. So no matter how much you screw up with hijack this, its still not as bad as a format. But I do like your program recommendations. The OP should install adaware and spybot. They will help search for problems. You might want to scan in Safe Mode so the spyware won't try to stop it from scanning. Also, it might not be a bad idea to scan with a different antivirus. Nod32 does offer a trial which may provide all the scanning and cleaning time you may need. My experience has shown that it can find a LOT more than norton and other common antiviruses.
Devine.Integrity Posted May 23, 2008 Author Posted May 23, 2008 ^Okay, something happened. I searched more about thie "Virtual cockroach malware" thing and I found out that it was caused by a program named "BLACKSTER" Accompanied by this other program. I searched it by running search on microsoft and I deleted both of them and I dont see the cockroaches anymore, the .vbs warning dissapeared, and also my screen saver is no longer that "SPYWARE ALERT". Im really suspicious. I know it cant just be THAT easy to remove a spyware. I also restarted and turned off my computer twice and still no sign on any malware symptoms. Could it be the system restoration did it? Because at first, even after I did the restore, cockraoches appeared.

All the OP has to do is follow the instructions given in the forum that I linked in my previous post.
Guest DKYang Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 If adaware, spybot, superantispyware, and windows defender doesn't get rid of it, also system restore. Do a hijackthis scan like it was previously mentioned and post it in various computer genre forums. Bleeping computers is a good site supposedly according to some people here. Post it there. For next time, install spywareblaster and keep it updated and use WOT addon for firefox if you use that browser.
Devine.Integrity Posted May 24, 2008 Author Posted May 24, 2008 ^HI DKYANG. Umm, I "Think" I resolved the problem. Because I deleted the file that created the cockroaches. So now cockroaches dont appear anymore, nor does pop up with mal alert. Im just wondering now, do you think its gone forever, or is there a slight possiblity that it is hiding right now. I did do system restore however.
awdark Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 scan some more, if you remember the name of the spyware/virus you can google it and see if you can find it on your computer. If you can't find them, they are probably gone. But if you do see it, you can probably use a program called killbox to delete the file. Most likely you have broken most of the parts of the malware, like its decapitated... but I won't be surprised if traces still remain (probably harmless)
Guest yunchikan Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 umm.. that happened to me before.. i did a system restore.. and everything's back to normal =/
