I hope I read the article correctly. Yoo Dong-geun is not playing one of the 2 men borned on the same date, his role is Sin Tae-hwan. Sin Tae-hwan's son and Lee Gi-Cheol's son were switched at the hospital during the 60's.

'Song Seung-heon Planning 10th Anniv. Project in Japan'

Actor Song Seung-heon is reportedly planning a large scale project in Japan to mark the tenth anniversary of his debut.

Japan's Sankei Sports said in its Saturday online edition that Hallyu star Song will hold a fan meeting at the Saitama Super Arena on Feb. 16.

As the first step of the tenth anniversary celebration, he will release a photo DVD on Jan. 25, which will be shot in Los Angeles next month.

The second event is a secret autograph session planned during his visit to Japan.

Sankei said Song is popular in Japan due to his dramas 'Autumn in My Heart' and 'Summer Scent' and that his first visit to Japan last December attracted 6,000 fans at Narita International Airport. It added his popularity could surpass that of Bae Yong-jun.

Song Seung-heon to release photobook to mark 10th anniversary in showbiz

Top Korean Wave actor Song Seung-heon will hold large scale activities to celebrate his 10th anniversary in showbiz. A DVD Photobook is scheduled to release on January 25th, 2008; the photographs will be taken in Los Angeles this upcoming November. A Fan Gathering will be held next year (February 16th, 2008) in Japan with 18,000 fans.

It's been 12 years since Song Seung-heon's debut as the model of STORM in 1995. His actual entertainment activity is reaching 10 years as a result of 2-year mandatory military service from 2004 to 2006.

Just as kdramafanusa stated below.. so far.. the only people who really confirmed * crossing fingers* are Song Seung Hun & Yoo Dong-geun

and WITH S2 * hahahaha.. joking aside.. I am beyond excited as my SSH is finally back*

If there is no change in casting.. and as long as song seung hun is still in this drama.. there's a 95% chance that WITH S2 will tackle this drama.. sigh.. we promised ourselves that after golden bride.. we won't sub another long drama.. but what can we do when song seung hun is in it? this man has that much power over us.. * hahaha.. well.. fine.. over me*... lol.. so they better keep him and give him one juicy role!!

This is what I managed to compile about the storyline at the moment - pls do not post it anywhere else.

Starting from the 1960s during the student movement, Front-runner Lee Gi Chul becomes self-reproached when the older brother of his wife died in Kangwon-Do coal mine. Shin Tae hwan (Jo Min Gi) did something bad to Lee Gi Chul (I think he killed LGC) during the dispute with the labor union and this incident was witnessed by the young Lee Dong Chul (Song Seung Hun), the elder son of Lee Gi Chul who vowed revenge.

Later, Lee Gi Chul's second son "Lee Dong Wook" and Shin Tae Hwan's son "Myung Hun" was switched by the nurse in the hospital and they grew up with each other's identities.

Some 20 years later, Lee Dong Chul grew to be a korean casino millionaire who owns casinos in Hong Kong through his hard work while Lee Dong Wook becomes a Seoul prosecuting attorney after graduating from National University law school and Shin Myung Hun becomes the successor to the financial group owned by Shin Tae Hwan. Lee Dong Wook who had swear/vowed to take revenge together with his brother on Shin Tae Hwan, finds himself in a difficult situation when the truth of his real parentage is revealed.

Note: According to the storyline, there'll be more than 2 males leads this time.

I read on SSH's official Japanese homepage that filming will start at the end of February.

and yea.. as much as i want to see my SSH in every screen shot, every scene in the 50 eps.. i know that is not possible.. hmm.. but as he is one of the main reason i'm excited about this drama.. * and MBC is grabbing him to maybe sell this series overseas- japan.. definitely*- I hope they will give him a HUGE role.. I know that the storyline is important.. but i'm just saying this as part of the bimbo club- give us plenty of hotties so we can sit through 50 episodes * hahahha*

I don't think so, it's not mentioned in papers that this drama is adapted from John Steinbeck's book.

드라마 돈전쟁 끝은? 250억,430억,500억…

[마이데일리 = 배국남 대중문화전문기자] 120억, 250억, 430억, 500억....드라마 제작비 전쟁이 브레이크 없는 질주를 하고 있다. 회당 2억원에 달하던 미니시리즈는 이제 5억원, 10억원 심지어 18억원대에 이르는 등 드라마 제작비가 거침없는 고공행진을 벌이고 있다.

지난해 방송된 SBS ‘로비스트’는 120억원으로 미니시리즈 100억원 제작비 시대를 열더니 이내 24부작 MBC‘태왕사신기’(김종학프로덕션 제작)가 430억원으로 한국 방송사상 최고의 제작비 기록을 갈아치웠다.

그리고 ‘태왕사신기’의 최고 제작비 기록은 이내 깨지게 됐다. 바로 MBC 사내 벤처 제작사인 스토리허브(대표 홍순관)와 부산, 울산, 마산, 진주MBC가 공동으로 제작하는 ‘제 4의 제국’(가제)의 제작비가 500억원에 달하기 때문이다. 50부작인 ‘제 4의 제국’은 잊혀진 제국 가야를 본격적으로 다룬 소설가 최인호씨의 동명 소설을 드라마화한 것으로 2009년 하반기 MBC를 통해 방송된 예정이다.

‘제4의 제국’제작사인 스토리허브는 “총제작비가 500억원 이상이 투입될 예정이며 ‘태왕사신기’를 능가하는 블록버스터 사극이 될 것이다”고 밝혔다.

올해 방송될 미니시리즈나 시대극이 회당 제작비가 5억원을 상회하는 대규모 작품은 적지 않다. 오는 4월 SBS에서 방송할 예정인 허영만 만화 원작의 미니시리즈‘식객’(JS픽처스 제작)은 제작비가 120억원에 달한다. 그리고 MBC가 4월 방송예정인 시대극 50부작‘에덴의 동쪽’은 회당 5억원에 달하는 총제작비가 250억원에 이르는 대작이다.

이처럼 드라마 제작비가 급상승해 회당 5억원~18억원에 이르는 등 이제 드라마의 돈의 전쟁은 끝이 없이 계속되고 있다.

이같은 제작비 규모는 현재 미니시리즈의 경우 회당 평균 제작비 2억원에 2.5배에서 9배에 달하는 액수이다. 그리고 2억~3억원이 소요되는 사극의 평균 제작비도 훨씬 상회하는 제작비 규모이다.

대중문화 시장규모, 1인당 국민소득, 경제규모, 물가를 감안해 미국 드라마 제작비와 비교해도 밀리지 않는 드라마 제작비다. 미국 드라마 ‘CSI’가 회당 제작비가 30억원에 달한 것과 비교해보면 대중문화 시장의 규모, 경제규모를 감안해보면 실질 제작비는 미국 드라마와 버금갈 정도로 상승했다.

이같은 드라마 총제작비는 블록버스터 영화 한편 제작비를 상회하고 한국 영화사상 가장 많은 돈이 투입됐다는 심형래 감독의 ‘디워’의 300억원을 이미 추월했다는 것을 의미한다.

김기덕 감독이 메가폰을 잡고 이나영, 오다기리죠 주연으로 나서 지난 5일 촬영에 들어간 영화 ‘비몽’은 5억원의 제작비가 투여되고 20억원이 투입된 영화 ‘가족의 탄생’ 등과 비교하면 드라마 한회 제작비가 웬만한 제작비를 육박하거나 상회하고 있다. 한국 영화의 순제작비가 40억원안팎임을 감안하면 현재 급상승중인 드라마 제작비가 엄청나다고 할 수 있다.

이처럼 드라마 제작사들은 돈의 전쟁을 하는 것은 물론 완성도 높은 드라마를 위해 불가피하다는 입장을 피력한다. 물론 드라마의 작품성이나 완성도를 위해 물량공세를 펼치지만 브레이크 없는 드라마 제작비 상승 이면에는 주가 띄우기의 머니게임적 요인도 작용하고 있다.

그리고 물량 공세가 반드시 완성도 높은 드라마로 이어지지 않고 있다. 볼거리에 제공에만 열중하고 내러티브 허술, 개연성 없는 스토리 전개로 시청자의 외면을 받은 ‘로비스트’가 단적인 예이다. 120억원이 투입된 대작이었지만 엄청난 제작비가 들어간 드라마라고 말할 수 없을 정도로 허술하기 그지 없었다. 반면 회당 1억원 즉 ‘태왕사신기’한회분 제작비로 완성된 케이블TV 미니시리즈 ‘별순검’은 완성도도 높고 이야기 구조가 탄탄해 좋은 반응을 얻었다.

이러한 드라마 끝없는 물량 공세는 드라마 시장을 활성화할 수도 있지만 실패가 연이어지면 드라마 제작시장의 붕괴를 가져올 수 있다. 블록버스터 영화가 잇따라 실패하면서 영화시장의 침체가 이어진 것은 현재 물량공세의 끝없는 전쟁을 벌이고 있는 드라마 제작사들이 반드시 새겨야할 부분이다.
