Hello! Just wanted to share some thoughts on SHK's earnings/activities since there seems to be some discussion on the topic, especially in comparison to SJK. 

It's true that an underlying gender inequity in earnings between male and female lead actors exists. And this is especially noticeable in the disparity of projected earnings from future CFs etc. And just based on recent activities alone, for sure SJK is bound to earn a lot from all the CFs, photoshoots, etc. he is currently being involved in. 

But it's hard to compare SHK to SJK's career at the moment just based on current activity and projected earnings coming straight off of the success of DOTS. 

SHK, though only a few years older than SJK, has a LOT more experience in the industry. She already has established herself as a very successful actress and has multiple large scale hits under her belt. Additionally, she has been consistently active in the Chinese market, which is much larger than the Korean market.  This also pulled her away for large spans of time from Korea. It is unfortunate, however, that as a celebrity, if you are not seen often, your value decreases. The fact that SHK is constantly considered one of the top actresses, however, is proof enough that her legacy has been established. And it is even more impressive in consideration of her past hardships and the fact that she does no media play, doesn't do excessive promotions through CFs, and does not make appearances often on TV shows. More importantly, despite being very private and relatively active abroad, SHK still consistently continues to work hard in Korea as an actress and continues to improve with each project. As with any actor/actress, once you have a hit and come off a successful drama/project, the burden of having the next project be as successful, if not more, can be really great. And instead, it can be much easier to just continue living off the success and status of the past drama just by doing CFs, etc. like other celebrities choose to do with much longer hiatuses between projects. But SHK has never done that. And I think that shows, that while she could definitely demand more and choose and pick projects based on pay alone, her passion as an actress is greater. 

And yes, as a longtime SHK fan, I was always happy to come across an article praising SHK's acting and consistency in her past projects during the airing of DOTS. It was literally like 1:10 ratio in terms of articles lol. But probably, SHK prefers not having excessive spotlight on her. She is very private. And she probably is happy enough with the success of DOTS, because it only further established her legacy and reconfirmed her star-power. Of course, as fans, we would appreciate any information or appearances. But also, as fans, we should understand. SHK has always been this way. But she also always works hard to come back with consistently solid projects.

So while SJK is much more active currently, I don't think it's because SHK isn't getting just as many offers. Their situations are different. Although SJK was already well known before going to the army, he was still considered a rising star. And with the success of DOTS, SJK needs to cement and establish his stardom. So yes, he is probably enjoying the rise in fame, as he well deserves to, but he is also  working hard along with his management company to make the most of the situation and strike while the iron is hot. And at this point in his career, that is exactly what he should be doing. And I'm sure he feels greater pressure for his upcoming film and will even feel more responsibility towards the success of whatever drama he may choose to do in the future. 

SHK, on the other hand, as I mentioned earlier, is more established in her career right now. Additionally, I think she has a rare success rate not just for actresses, but even among actors. She already has experienced extreme highs and also lows in terms of her career, and so I believe she has a much different outlook on the whole situation, taking into consideration a much larger picture. Not only that, but her agency also is really respective of her autonomy and privacy. I'm sure she also is enjoying the success and love from DOTS as shown in her IG, but I also feel like she knows not to be easily swayed by it, and will just continue to keep her head down and try to work and shine as an actress. 

Sorry for the long post. I feel like I kind of got too preoccupied with writing why I respect SHK so much that I'm not sure if my overall point came across lol. And I hope the fact that I also discussed SJK a bit wasn't a problem, but the disparity in recognition and pay seems to come up quite a bit as an issue. And these are thoughts I wanted to share, especially since as a longtime fan of SHK, I do wish she got the amount of recognition she fully deserves. But I'm also a fan of SJK, and I understand how the industry works. So let's just be happy for both. 

Personally, SHK seems to be really happy lately, which makes me happy for her as a fan. I also am curious about her next project. While I feel like she might be more inclined to be more active in China again for a bit, I do kind of want her to continue being active and do another project in Korea .. mainly since it's easier for me to follow

Episode 16 of “Descendants of the Sun” did not end as Yoo Si Jin's dream, as promised by writer Kim Eun Sook. However, it is the billions of fans of the 16-episode drama who are dreaming of a season 2, although the producer has ruled that out.

The fans’ demand for a second season was triggered by the happy ending that the writer promised. In the final episode, aired on Thursday over KBS 2TV and Chinese video platform iQiyi, Yoo Si Jin, played by Song Joong-ki, and Kang Mo Yeon, played by Song Hye kye, meet again after one year, reported Fashion & Style.

Initially, she thought that Yoo had died and whom she saw was a ghost when they attend the wedding of a friend, Daniel. During the reception, the guests were informed that a volcano erupted, prompting the couple to say, “The vacation is over.”
After the wedding, the two visited a beach in Uruk, the fictional war-torn country where they were assigned, and promised to marry. Those two scenes have been teasers for fans to believe a second season could be forthcoming.

Those sentiments were shared on Twitter like the comment by Dramawatching Clock who wrote, “We’re not the only ones feeling wistful about the show’s ending. The people involved in its making must also be feeling nostalgic as they’ve shared their own personal candid photos from the set.”
kriaxy tweeted, “Awww Descendants of the sun’s ending is so nice. Season 2! Season 2!”

If the finale viewership numbers are the bases, the producer probably will at least push through with the idea of a movie version to satisfy the fans’ demand. According to Nielsen Korea, Episode 16 logged a 38.8 percent viewership, up by 4 percent.

However, the TV show tracker pointed out that “Descendants of the Sun” failed to topple “The Sun and the Moon,” an MBC drama aired in 2012. Nevertheless, it was an enviable finish since the finale logged a 44.2 percent viewership in Seoul and 41.6 percent in the metropolitan area.

"Descendants of the Sun" just aired its finale episode last week, bringing an abundance of happy endings for all, but it seems the "DoTS fever" that propelled Song Joong Ki to superstardom and swept not only South Korea but also the rest of Asia has not died down yet.

Just by looking at how popular the hit k-drama became, it's no wonder there are many demanding for a "Descendants of the Sun" sequel, noted Asia Times. And if there happens to be a sequel in the works, there's no doubt fans would want main cast Song Joong Ki, Song Hye Kyo, Jin Goo and Kim Ji Won to return and take us on a rollercoaster of feels once again.

Vine Report claims that a "DoTS" sequel might be in the works due to the overwhelming ratings the show received.

The fact that the drama had an open ended finale serves only to add fuel to speculation that we may see the return of Song Joongki's dreamy Captain Yoo Si-jin and Song Hye Kyo's Kang Mo Yeon as well as fan-favorite couple Jin Goo's Seo Dae Young and Kim Ji Won's Yoon Myung Joo.

However, KBS and writer Kim Eun Sook have yet to confirm any sequel for the smash k-drama hit.

In addition, bringing all the main cast back to film a second part might be impossible due to scheduling conflicts, considering that all four may have scored drama and movie roles already following the success of "DoTS."

"Season 2 would be nice, but I don't know about its possibility. We'd have to keep all the main cast, whose schedules won't be easy to coordinate. We'd also need the two writers again, and that might be hard," she told the publication.

A second installment to a hit show without the original main cast isn't unheard of when it comes to k-dramas, however, as "Dream High 2" and "Iris 2" were filmed without the stars of the first show.

But while you're waiting for more news as to the sequel, you can catch more of your favorite actors in the three-part "Descendants of the Sun" special airing Wednesday to Friday on KBS.

yes , utkim that's very true hope they are on their way to negotiation stage already , it cant be denied that SHK is a certified wanpan queen that even Mitsubishi China offered her though she turn it down,. this is great news to hear , coz even Chinese or Japanese company is very interested in getting her why not big companies in Korea  ?????

Glad to see SHK's acting recognized (not that she needs it but still glad to see).
