“Dae Jang Geum” Star Confirmed Pregnant

This was a very well kept secret – until her father spilled the beans!

The folks at Lady Kyunghang magazine first reported that Lee Young Ae was pregnant in their August issue, citing the actress’s father as the source. Lee’s agency was then forced to confirm that the actress was in fact four months pregnant.

“It is true that she is pregnant and we were going to inform the press at an adequate time because this is when a pregnant woman is most cautious but it seems like the news has gone out through her father,” the agency official stated in an interview with Asia Economic Daily.(more)

Top star Lee Young-ae (Sympathy for Lady Vengeance, Dae Jang Geum) has announced her pregnancy, which comes one year after she quietly married a Korean-American businessman.

A rep with her management company gave the statement that she is treading carefully at this stage and didn’t confirm how far along she is, although her father reportedly said that she is four months along. Lee Young-ae, one of Korea’s top acting stars, is pregnant with her first child, management associates said Friday.

``Lee is currently pregnant,’’ representatives of Storm S Company said, adding that further details would be released later so that the excitement won’t distress Lee in her condition.

The 39-year-old actress married a Korean-American in August 2009, in a low key wedding kept away from the prying eyes of the public. he sudden marriage in Hawaii came as a surprise to many of her fans. The only information Lee released about her husband was that he had graduated from an engineering college in Illinois and was working at an IT firm.

Lee first made her debut on Korean TV as a model before moving on to gain popularity in dramas and films. Her role in ``Dae Jang Geum,’’ or ``Jewel in the Palace,’’ led her to reach a new level of hallyu popularity in Southeast Asian countries and Iran.[more]

It's important to understand that the number of advertisement contracts or CFs do not accurately portray a star's status in Korea, and not all 'A list' or 'Top Stars' are at an equal level status.

It also doesn't mean that a big star has lost their popularity if they don't get much internet news coverage during the quiet period, as the biggest few stars aren't usually mentioned or searched continuously on net. CFs and/or advertisement contracts also differ a lot in guarantee pay, and the specification of the contracts are very different for different stars. So if you see news of other stars getting more exposure on net, not to worry.

Actress Lee Young-ae To Give Birth In February

Hallyu star Lee Young-ae will be welcoming a new baby girl to this world in February. The birth is scheduled to happen in a hospital in Cheongdam-dong of Seoul.

The 40-year-old actress has stayed very low key after getting married to a businessman in August of 2009. She's currently in the middle of pursuing a PhD, and has barely been seen out of her home. That hasn't stopped the rumor mill from spitting out speculations, such as Lee being pregnant with twins.

An inside source said, "Lee Young-ae is extremely happy after hearing her doctor's latest news that she will be having a daughter. There are high expectations for a beautiful daughter, especially if she takes after her mother. The due date is set in mid-February, but because this is Young-ae's first child, it may be a little later by a week or so."

With her due date just around the corner, Lee has been taking extra pre-cautions on everything. Particularly, she's been avoiding leaving her house as much as possible with the freezing winter weather. However, she hasn't been slacking on her other motherly duties. For example, Lee has bought all the needed baby products and packed her bags for when she checks in to the hospital to give birth. Currently, she has been keeping up with basic physical exercises as she waits to meet her daughter.

One thing Lee hasn't done as of yet is to make plans with a post-natal care center. It has yet to be seen whether she will use the one the hospital recommends or another outside center. Above all, she seeks a center that will honor her and her daughter's privacy while delivering quality care.

Lee Young Ae is pregnant with twins!

However, recent news has revealed that this top star will soon be a mother to two children as she is currently pregnant with twins, one boy and one girl. The babies are expected to arrive in late February, and according to an individual who is close to the couple stated, “Right now Lee Young Ae is in the late stages of her pregnancy so she is putting her all into taking care of her body. Her husband Ho Young is very happy about the twins.”

The actress plans to have her babies at Seoul’s Chung Dam Song hospital and because of her old age she is being very careful over taking care of the babies. Although it has not been decided where she would rest after giving birth, it is thought that she would choose a very quiet place away from the public.

Lee Young Ae’s management company stated regarding her pregnancy, “As of now we are not able to reveal anything about Lee Young Ae’s personal issues. Lee Young Ae also does not want this so after the birth there will be an official announcement.” Meanwhile, Lee Young received acclaimed fame for her role in popular drama ‘Dae Jang Geum.’

S. Korean actress Lee Young-ae gives birth to twins

South Korean actress Lee Young-ae, widely popular across Asia, has given birth to twins, her agent here said Monday.

Lee, 40, became a mother of fraternal twins, a boy and a girl, at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at a Seoul hospital, said Storms Company.

"The mother and the babies are healthy," it said.

She was secretly married in 2009 in the United States to a Korean businessman, surprising fans everywhere.

Lee, considered one of the most influential actresses in South Korea with a broad fan base built on the Korean Wave throughout East and Southeast Asian countries, debuted in a television commercial in 1991. She started gaining stardom in TV dramas and movies with her composed image and acting prowess.

Lee's popularity exploded after her starring performance in the popular Korean drama "Jewel in the Palace (Dae Jang Geum)," about life of a court lady in the Joseon Dynasty, first released overseas in 2004 and quickly won a following. The fictional historical drama reached as far as Iranian television in 2007 and drew 86 percent of viewers in the Middle East nation, an unprecedented record for a Korean show.

After staring in the 2005 film "Sympathy for Lady Vengeance," directed by Park Chan-wook, she has kept a low profile over the past few years.

Lee Young-ae Resting in Luxury Postnatal Care Center

Even the postnatal care center where actress Lee Young-ae is staying has generated a great deal of interest among women fans. Lee gave birth to twins -- a boy and a girl -- on Sunday.

The center is reportedly a luxury facility offering a standard room for W6.05 million and deluxe room W12 million for two weeks (US$1=W1,128). Lee reportedly booked the deluxe room.

According to an investigation by the Ministry of Health and Welfare last year of 418 postnatal care centers nationwide, the least expensive room cost W640,000 and the most expensive one W12 million. What attracts mothers to these luxury facilities is the pleasant environment and service offered to customers.

Lee had her twins at Cheil General Hospital in central Seoul. According to her management agency, the actress (40) insisted on natural birth instead of a Caesarean despite her age, and is breastfeeding her babies.

Lee Young-ae to file suit over her portrait rights

Popular actress Lee Young-ae will file a compensation suit against a company managing her portrait rights for allowing a local kimchi maker to use her photo without her consent.

Lee’s legal representative, Kim & Jung, said Thursday that the actress never agreed to the use of her photo as a model for a kimchi product to be introduced by Ilchung-Myeongga. It will soon file a lawsuit against the company managing her portrait rights, identified only as “C,” for compensation.

Lee has a broad fan base in Asia for her 2003 TV series “Jewel in the Palace (Dae Jang Geum).”

On April 26, the kimchi manufacturer said it will launch a new product featuring Lee in a traditional Korean costume, which she wore in the popular TV drama, on its package.

It will market the item to consumers in Japan, China and Southeast Asian countries where Korean dramas and movies are popular.

Kim & Jung affirmed Lee never consented to the use of her photo by the kimchi maker.

“It is true that Lee had a contract with company C, giving it rights to exercise her portraits on several products. But to do so, it must receive prior approval from Lee. But the firm did not abide by this rule. Lee found out only through media reports that her photo had been put on the packages of kimchi products,” the law firm said.

It said Lee’s image as a premier model and actress has been severely compromised, adding she will terminate the contract with company C and seek compensation from it in court as well.

In response, Ilchung-Myeongga said it signed a legitimate contract with company C and bought the rights to place her image on the packaging of its new product, stressing it did nothing wrong.

A company spokesman said it is also suffering damage from the ongoing controversy, adding it will consider seeking compensation from company C.
