  1. At the end, Mr Gu tries to abandon his life as a thug and perhaps stop the people who appear in the morning from haunting him.   This way, perhaps he can finally stop drinking, and can greet these people calmly (as suggested by Mi Jeong), if they appear.  In any case his life is too messy and complicated to include Yeom Mi Jeong.  Having a relation with  her would destroy her life and he would not do so for her sake.

Yeom Mi Jeong also found some degree of redemption.  Perhaps she does not need to hate others and hate herself, knowing that when she was young, she was happily involved in the lives of people around her, and she was not the withdrawn angry person she grew up to be.  As Mi Jeong said to herself:  I feel lovable.  In the last episode she was chatting and smiling normally with the coworkers, without the painful uncomfortable smile she put on when she went out with the coworkers at Joy Card.  She is truly on the way to liberation.

Yeom Ki jeong determined to follow the dry Mr. Jo Tae Hoon who was always at a lost as to how to deal with a teenage daughter.  He likewise felt the same.  And so  the two will go on, holding onto each other like the broken rose in a soy sauce shallow dish.

Jeom Chang Hee may have found his true calling:  Working as an undertaker. He seems to feel spiritually connected to the death and dying.  Maybe this is the meaning of his life, rather than pining fancy car or women.

The rest of the liberation club have not achieved the liberation they are looking for, but they have an understanding of what they need to liberate, so they will apply themselves.

The ending is certainly not tidy, just like many things in life don't have happy or tidy endings.  But these people will try to go on with their existence in pursuit of their idea of liberation.

  2. the_sweetroad and jus-ash were discussing the 2 following 2 questions:

    1. When the market vendor told Mi Jung's mom that Mi Jung was crying over a dog she had lost, we were supposed to think that Mi Jung was crying over Gu's departure, right? Not actually over the wild stray dogs that had been caught? And MJ's mom realized MJ was brokenhearted over Gu.... Is that how you all read that scene?

    2. It's interesting that Mr. Yeom gave MJ's number to Gu two times, no questions asked. He trusted Gu with his daughter. This is hypothetical, but if he knew the kinds of shady things Gu was running from (when he first arrived in Sanpo) and what he was involved in (when he re-visited Sanpo) do you guys think he still would have trusted Gu?

So I pondered this matter and this is what I think:

    1. Did Mi Jeong compared Gu to a dog when she cried at the market stall in front of the vendor?
I don't think so. She has been in despair since his sudden departure and her inaability to communicate with him was the last straw.  All she see in her future is solitude, boredom, self deprecation and despair!  As you have all mentioned, she is not a person who easily express her emotion verbally or physically (the sister Ki jeongg and brother Chang hee were bawling daily, but Mi Jeong can't do so easily).  So when she started to cry in front of the vendor, she was horrified and said the first thing that came to her mind ...about the lost dog.

    2. Why would Mr. Yeom give the phone number of his favorite daughter to a stranger?  You all have eluded to the fact that he trusted Gu.  As a person who is intensely introverted just like his daughter, he said little but observed closely.  His instinct told him that Gu  was a good person with work ethic similar to himself, a penchant not to say much, and a good intention toward his family (he went and got the money from the miser who refused to pay, he worked in the field and waved his salary sayng that work is fun).  Mr. Yeom is also a simple person without much wants or needs unlikely his eldest 2 children and recognizes that attitude in Gu.  He also probably was most concern about the future of his youngest daughter since, of all 3 children, she was the least likely to settle down and form a family.  It would be great if he can have them live together with him and his wife on the farm like a happy family.  He knew that the elder 2 children don't want farm life, but his instinct tell him that Mi Jeong and Gu could!
Was he curious about what Gu did for a living before all of this?  Probably some what, but like Mi Jeong, he feels that the past is the past,  and what matter is now and the future... and he think Gu was a solid man and Mr. Yeom was willing to give Gu a chance with his sensible, but exceedingly shy daughter !

  3. Episode 14 clarified many things:

Yeom Mi jeon may save Mr. Gu for the 3rd  time by marrying him...thus saving him from potential liver cirrhosis and death!  Fortunately, only 10 to 20% of heavy alcohol users get liver cirrhosis.  it usually takes 10 to 20 + years of heavy drinking to develop liver cirrhosis.   So she may not become a young widow due to his drinking!  Hopefully he won't have a traumatic end from lead bullet!

Being extremely introverted means that Mi yeon listen and see more than the office girls.  That allows her to pick up the nuances between Mr. Choi and her coworker with whom he has the affair.   People are right in saying that these 2 in their time alone probably made fun of Mi yeon's attire and think of her as the country bumpkin.

I was completely wrong in thinking that manager Choi was together with Mr. Gu's chauffeur.  In that scene where Mr. Gu called out "Yeom Mi Jeon" was because of his loneliness, his desperation to see her.   The chauffer came in thinking that the boss was addressing him!  Afterall Mr. Gu called him by random names any way so he just assumed.  This seemed to be Mr. Gu's only amusement, by making fun of his chauffeur and drinking away his loneliness.

Totally agreed with you @tiger457_stv that dying in a sleep is so much better than suffering the sickness in the hospital, at least it will be less burden to the family members. (I personally prefer to die in a sleep at home - if i am lucky, or just suffer two weeks of pain and leave the world soon, if it is possible).

Their mum was suffered due to overworked, she still needed to cook for the family even after came back from the farm work. Very sad ....

IMO, the most required person in the family that needs to free/Liberate herself at her age is the mum....I pity her the most because she doesn't have the chance to enjoy life at her life stage and to attend her children's wedding, while at the same time, it's a blessing for her, at least not died in a serious illness.

I felt today EP13 is the most touching one, perhaps I encountered too many events in my daily life : Most of us choose to repeat our daily routine, repeating the same route, repeating something familiar and comfortable with, although we are afraid of change or frustrated at times. Liberation sound easy but how many of us can get away from this routine zoning.

Can we choose a day when to leave the world (except a suicide case)? Instead of keep pondering, I think we should live our life to the fullest before it is too late, that will be the good choice for us.

To stay in a cocoon, or free ourselves, you make the choice, and that perhaps is the key message of this drama :)

I've faced hundreds of dying people.  The worse was when I had to tell this 40s couple, that the husband had terminal cancer. It was a shock and the wife fell apart crying, punching the wall. The husband had to forget about his own shock and tried to comfort the wife.

In general, those folks who are at peace with themselves and are satisfied with what their lives up to that point, tend to have a better death (since they are not burdened by regrets and self-pity).  In any case the dead don't have sorrow, just those who remain!  Very sad.

  5. Episdoe 13 is very sad with the departure of the overworked, undervalued mother who as many had said, was the glue of the family.

However, this may be a blessing, since without her, the 3 children were finally able to leave their roots and find themselves.

Mi yeon is growing up, not hating herself so much, having more confident to fight her own battle rather running away and hide.  Her confrontation with the dog, her hard work to become a full time employee and to excel, despite her trouble with the obnoxious (and probably gay) boss.  This Choi seems to be running around with a gangster which serves him right.  Unfortunately in the next episode there seems to be a misunderstanding and Mi yeon will get an undeserving slap from Choi's wife, after all the trouble he gave her!

Everyone are trying to find their way  int he world.  Eldest sister is trying to make peace with the child.  Younger brother tries to find a way around a dead-end job.

Even Mr. Gu is trying to find happiness after turning his back on it for 2 years! This is probably the winter of 2021 (2 years after the original episodes).  He probably finally realizes that worshipping some one from afar, is not the same as having that someone next to him!

Even poor father, grief stricken and suffer from a right brain stroke, has partially moved on from his sadness with a new wife (more like a nurse maid than a wife).  She seems to be a nice caring woman so that is all good.

As for departed mother, she can finally rest in peace, knowing that her children are trying to get ahead, despite their adversity and struggles!

So it is not all bad.  Sadness comes, but life goes on......

I wonder what the dog thought when it confronted Mi-yeon?

I hate you, you  try to tame us so now I am all alone, my companions are in some kennel some where?

You are that not nice, crazy woman who throw rock at us while that other man is so nice he feeds us?

I hate all human, so now there is one in front of me so I should bite you?

  6. I wondered what Mi Yeon meant by worshipping, and initially Gu also was not sure hence he read the dictionary.  With time he understood.
Worshipping requires a strong feeling of very high regard, very high esteem for the person one worship.  It is beyond adoration, affection and may even have a sense of awe. Of course one can also love the person one worship in the physical sense, although that is not necessary.

Mi yeon who was always withdrawn, lonely, frustrated and probably has low self esteem had reflected for a long time before she asked Gu to worship her.  It was her thought that if he adored her, and supported her and told her that what she did in life is good, is right, then perhaps...she would gain more self confidence, and like a cautious turtle, be able to stick her neck out and takes chances in life.
Case in point is her being bullied by her incompetent boss, who clearly singled her out for abuse...because he feared her talents and his inadequacy.  Being a temp, she was helpless to fight back.

Of course she could have left the company and take her chance at another job but, as she said "the ones I want to stay (competent ones) always leave, while the other (incompetent ones) remain."    In that sense she want her self to the be the 1st group but feels herself helplessly stuck with  the latter.  Significant amount of her self anger, as well her anger toward others (who were more happy than her) was because of this self-pity/helplessness.  Her colleagues often did not help with their statement about her home province, obviously reminding of her insignificant bucolic life (a hillbilly as they would say in the United States).  But she wanted to be recognized for her work, for her worth, but felt that she was held down by circumstance and her own timidity.   Hence the liberation diary for Mi yeon.

For Gu, he at first did not understand what she meant by worshipping.  After all, he was a gangster boss, and used to give order and had it obeyed, used to take what he wanted without much thought.  How could he worship a timid country girl who barely communicate with anyone...who obviously did not know how to dance, to go to night club, to enjoy.  Worshipping her would be as enjoyable as worshipping a Koala Bear that says nothing and does nothing!
BUT, being introverted himself, the observant Gu noted all the quality of the boring Koala Bear:  her loyalty, her thoughtfulness, her bravery, her work ethic, her self-pride despite her timidity.  And slowly his admiration formed and grew until he found himself treasuring her more than himself.

It was that thought of adoration for some one above ourself which makes worshipping such a high standard.  Because one can love another in a physical sense for one's own selfishness, one's own satisfaction.  But to worship some one, one must think of the well being of that other person, even if it causes pain for oneself.   Thus, Gu worshipped Mi yeon and had to leave her for her protection and for her own good....since what good would it be for her to be with a gangster.

By nature, gangsters believe in strength and respect.  For Gu to be so high up in the organization, he must dominate/intimidate others with physical strength and threat and violence.  That probably was why he looked with puzzle expression when ever Mi yeon innocently expressed her macabre thought about death and violence.  When he told her to give him a name so she would not eat him, it was half joke and half admiration for a  tough, no nonsense girl.

Anyway, time will tell how they will reconcile 2 years later.  As noted, they met in spring-summer of 2019.  Then comes winter of 2021 and she walked in the snow in the city.....

  7. The question I have is where will the relation between Mi yeon and Gu goes?
It is easy when they are in the same level, working in the hot sun picking pepper, but now with the revelation of his world vs. her?

Mi yeon and Gu are very introspective, brooding people who truly worship/ treasure each other.
Mi yeon who was always very observant, but by nature passive when it comes to danger, did risk her life instinctively to fight off the dogs when Gu's life was in danger.
Likewise Gu tried everything he can to spare her from the danger of being associated with him.... a lead gangster.  After all, her life with him would lead to danger for both.  She would obviously be a target to get to him. He would then have to risk his life to save her.

Knowing that, he would not risk going to a higher and more physical level with their relationship..... Mi yeon and he took a long and arduous hike in the dark up to a mountain top to look at the star, and the town far below. where they impulsively hugged and smooched, but that was all.  Of course she would wish to take a shower after such a sweaty hike in high heels without  complaining.

The reason Gu was attracted to her are many, but the most practical part being her nature:
A reserved person who would not brag, who can keep a secret.
An introverted person who thinks deeply but is also vulnerable and some what  defenseless, bringing out the protective instinct in this gangster.
Her hard working nature without complaint just like her father (the mountain hike in city clothing, the pepper picking in high humidity were examples).  Her some what macabre introspection which is very unusual for a woman (the exploding frogs, the food/pet-goats).
Her disdain for trinkets and materialism (no rolls royce for Mi-yeon).
Her loyalty and acceptance of those she cares about (I don't care what you did in the past).
Of course he was also attracted to her physical beauty but it's her nature that fit a gangster's spouse... some one who could deal with the adversity without panick, hysteria, or complaint.  Some one who, if he get killed , would be able to carry on with her life.

Gu's story with the dead girlfriend eluded to her being depressed and stressed, with suicidal thoughts which she finally carried out as action.  Being a gangster limited his choice of partner greatly.  Usually these are money hungry women or relatives of other gangsters.  Of course the dead girlfirend was the sister of his main rival Baek which put more stress on her.  The dead girlfriend was probably the exact opposite of Mi yeon:  A sociable, outgoing person who enjoyed life.  No wonder she could not tolerate being with Gu the brooding, taciturn gangster.  Her death affected him a great deal eventhough he did not say anything.  His hard drinking was probably because of the guilt of driving her to her death.

The organization that Gu belonged to, seems to deal with gambling and possibly prostitution.... but they don't deal in drug.  Now that he and Mi yeon has broken up, but almost certainly will get back together, what will she think of his occupation if she knows?  Will she compartmentalizes his business life from his private life... as sordid, potentially violent informations from his occupation comes out?
What kind of conversation can a wife have with a gangster husband
    Wife  "Honey, how was work?"
Gangster "Today was a mess, we rubbed some guys who skimmed from the top.  They are now encased in cement in the Yellow Sea."
or Gangster "Sorry I got to go right now.  Pack me some stuff. Don't try  to call me since the phone is deactivated.  I'll keep in touch."

When she said that she want to have Gu as a 1 year old, she meant an innocent him before he becomes a gangster.
Since Miyeon, like her father,  is a law abiding person who knows right from wrong, will she have the fortitude to forgive him for his occupation, and go the next level in their relationship???    I am not sure!

The attack on Seoul just like other areas started with cruise missile attack (they fly low) then came the nuclear tipped ballistic missile.  Once you see episode 11,  Seo Hae will be walking through the wasteland caused by the bomb blast, and she even fell into the quick sand crater from the nuclear explosion.

A nuclear power plant explosion won't kill many people right away, nor would it destroy the Gangnam district and the Lotte International Tower (episode 12).

Please keep watching and you will know what the parents know

  9. at the beginning of episode 12 when Seo Hae walked through the destroyed city, then into the desert I was wondering where in Korea is there a desert?  Then I realize that that is the epicenter of the nuclear blast!  That is why her father warned her to avoid that area.  When she sunk into the quick sand, that probably was the crater that has been filled in by surrounding dirt and sand.  A quick calculation shows that an airblast nuclear explosion of about 1 megaton will make a shallow crater 1000+ feet wide, and the surrounding area will vaporize and be gone for miles!  Sobering finding for the poor  Seo Hae, growing up for 15 years in this hell.

  10. 2035 is the future and 2021 was the present.  All the major players know the future and that explain their confidence... like Seo Hae said "I'm not going to die to day".   she knew to the number to the lottery.  Her parents also knew the future, hence the sacrifice by her mother to close the door to the bomb shelter, which no one else came to because they did not expect a nuclear war (but her family knew).  Her mother simply knew that there was no time before the nuclear missile strikes, and her spouse and daughter must survive.   The father knew and brought an AR assault rifle with him on that faithful day when thousands of rockets land on Seoul, just before the big bang.

  11. @wenchanteur @byulyna

You talk about time shifting.  There are scenes throughout the story, but especially at the beginning that show that Seo Hae is not very stable in the current time.  In episode 1, her figure appears to shake and fade like a poor video which caused the boy to think she was a ghost.  In other scene she lost consciousness.  There seems to be a POSITIONAL SHIFT rather than a TIME SHIFT that happens.  It seems like some one in the future is trying to prevent her from getting kill to complete her mission ....protecting our inventor time transporting genius!

It's interesting to see the puzzled look on the face of of modern people by the action of Seo Hae (eating unpeeled banana, obsession with food of every type, drinking bath water).    They wonder how bad the future will be after a nuclear holocaust?   But it hard to imagine unless one can see it first hand (picking through ever dwindling supply and water that cannot be replaced, fighting other desperate souls who would kill for sustenance, trying not to lose one's humanity in struggle to survive...as her father said "you can lose some thing very important...if you become soft".

The part I wonder is why would the future group that Seo Hae and Father belong to, would send her (a girl who has too much scruple, too much emotion scar) to protect our inventor?  Would an Arnold Swartzeneger Terminator Type be better?

Are they afraid that the protector would run away (like Seo Hae's father suggested to her in beginning of episode 1) when they got back to the old-new world?

  12. @rosela said - PSY action/fight scenes rocks! Pink accents on her pistol & rifle are intriguing (is it metal? is it a special plastic/material that it won't melt with heat when guns are fired)

The AR-15 rifle and pistol are wrapped in a type of plastic polymer or fiberglass (there are many propiatary type like nylon 6) which is highly heat resistant.  These add on are quite common.  She probably found them at an abandoned rifle shop in Seoul.  Poor girl never got a chance to grow up, but want to be a girl (her obsession with toys, clothing and boys in magazines).  Instead she walks around in brown boots and clothing, while porting toys, guns and gas mask!

@lduc  Sisyphus was punished by endlessly toil away hefting a rock uphill until it rolls back and he has to start again....  This human tale goes round and round endlessly due to time travel, and various attempt to change what happened.... with probably the same ending and restart.  Nothing really change, and it is fruitless to try to change it!

Well, I am not disappointed by the ending, even if it looks right now like an open ending. We saw how Tagon and Eunseom could rise and now they are about to fight against each other. We know for sure that Eunseom will win because every prophecy has come true. Tagon will lose in the end, Arthdal has already been cursed by Tanya and Tagon is not aware of it.

At the end, the viewer realizes that the union between Taealha, Tagon and Saya has been broken. Saya knows now about the existence of a twin brother... he is aware that Tagon is hiding something from him. Tagon plans to use Taealha's child to have his real heir... In other words, Tagon will never proclaim Saya his heir. Finally, Tagon and Taealha have already planned to betray each other, just like they promised each other in the past.

I agree with you that this is the end of the tale....and a beginning.  On one side is the start of true civilization which often coalesce into larger entities like country, nation, empire.   On the other side is the formation of more loosely associated federation of tribes.  The former nation/empire clearly has an advantage in manpower and weaponry (the discovery of steel) and a warrior class (they have more wealth so can devote time and treasure to train a professional army...like the daekan group).   they also has better organization and a clear war plan...they know what they want and how to do that.  Plus they have a city wall to protect their city.... many attacks by barbarians against cities have failed due to the attackers running out of food and have to leave.

the fedieration has strength in a united leader (temporarily, unless he gets killed) but their war plan is unclear, disjointed, and the tribes too independent and may not stick together when things go bad.  They don't have as much training either.  Their last advantage is that they are familiar with their home terrain and can do ambushes against the attackers.   they better stay on the defense of their homeland to stand a chance against the nation/empire.

Throughout history there are many cases of large empires unable to conquer small states and both exist concurrently (England and Scotland, Yuan Dynasty and Annam....).   So the thought by some Soompian that Eunseon people will ultimately win is highly premature.

In any case this reader does not think they will make a sequel (although that would be highly interesting in how the writer think of what is important, freedom or orderliness ….or both).

  14. @sasha1818 said "ES has been flailing nonstop for the past 16 episodes and we finally have some sort of breakthrough today. I just want to say that out of all the characters, I find him the least interesting because he's a spot of pure white in a world of grey. And I think that's why he doesn't fit for me in this show because everyone else seems to have more layered intentions whereas he's just forever doing the good thing. Which is awesome in real life but sucks to watch onscreen.  He's like the antithesis of Robert from GOT where Robert conquered and then had no freaking clue what to do. ES would make an awesome King but his path there seems to be by sheer luck and literally, the wills of the god. "

This reader agree with you about Eunseon.  If Arthdal is broken down, what can Eunseon do?  He knows nothing about governing,   Will he abolish taxation and the guards also? Make everyone equal so they can equally try to kill each other and create a world of chaos?  He cannot even read!

Tanya would make a better leader in that she is very smart and think clearly and can choose to do things that is bad if the alternative is worse.... the judgment of the white mountain tribe's leadership is a great example.  she did not want to punish the innocent children, but she was a priestess, powerless even to protect her tribe... so she did the next best thing, by turning the inevitability into her favor.  She is a realist and in her core will do whatever to protect her people.  BUT she is a woman, and is not feared, hence cannot rule.

So will it be Saya who rules?  He certainly is level-headed, calculating and Ruthless.  what ever the end of the tale, there cannot be chaos.

  15. Poor Tanya... right and wrong, selfishness and righteousness, security and uncertainty, violence and peace, power and helplessness.... all of which have their consequences.

she is innately a good person who now feel guilt, to no fault of her own.... (I wish to return to Iark… but is that even possible now that she is the person with some power!).

Tagon and Taelha who are innately good but now become monsters who do not hesitate to kill anyone to protect what they thing are theirs.

the twin brothers Igutu eunseon/saya  who are diametric opposite of each other one good and relatively innocent by his simple environment,  the other mean-spirited and worldly beat down by his depressing environment.

There is a saying that to be magnanimous, one has to feel strong and secure.  None of these people are secured, even if they hold power!

Modern human who see this story may be sickened by all the unfairness that happened, but in modern time, we can afford to be magnanimous and judgmental.....thousands of years ago can they afford to be??? this reader is not sure!

Tanya always dream about and long for her eunseon….   Will the eunseon she finally see look like the carefree eunseon she remembered or a tyrant like tagon/saya.   will she be able to survive in this dangerous world?

This is one of the most complicated Korean Drama this reader has ever seen!… where goodness and badness mixed and it becomes hard to know what to think about each person (to empathize or reject them for their deeds)!  Great story!

  16. @bebebisous33 @Najoua Soussi  This reader thinks that Taegon kills simply to survive.  he just did not want to die.  So he killed many.... He basically is an Igutu who knows right and wrong.... Killing innocents is not justifiable, so he has to make excuses to his existance…. by staying alive he must build something better than in the past and the present.... a peaceful world.

alas he is now forced to do more killings...to survive!!!  Arthdal Chronicles is truly a draining tale with so much emotions and blood!

  17. Tanya spoke well... when asked to talk about sky wind moon fire water.... she eloquently enumerated the domain of Wahan/arthdal god  ….NATURE ITSELF.  this girl is no slouch... she definitely is a politician.

    Hohoho

the major problem is that the White Mountain Tribe hierarchy only reluctantly accept Tanya, and so there is a strong uneasiness as each (white mountain represent the new vs.  White Mountain Heart representing the old tradition) side wearily tolerate each other.... there will be major problems for sure.

Then Tagon and Taelha are dominant figure in this which is not easy for Tanya.

Ayayah… the world of politics does not change whether in the old day or modern time.

  18. after watching 12 episodes and the highlight for season 3, this is my guess as to what will happen:

Tanya became leader of the White Mountain Tribe, with the White Peak Mountain Heart society be allowed to function publicly.  Asa Ron has to step down but reluctantly and schemes with his people awaiting his chance to get back his power...with his accomplice Hae Mihol.

Tagon uses his power to become king with help of Taealha.  They tries to control Tanya by forcing her to marry their "SON" Saya but she rebuff them.  She asks for the Wahan tribe to be brought back and found out that Eunseon has already escape into the wild along with the slaves from the mine and has vanished.

Taealha holds on to Tanya's father to work in the bronze casting, but also as a hostage against Tanya.

Eunseon went to other lesser tribes and cultivate their support waiting for a day when he can come back to rescue the Wahan tribe in Arthdal but that is not possible since Arthdal is too powerful......

until a coup d'état occurs....  some one find out that their king Tagon is an IGUTU, and Hae Mihol and White Mountain Tribe supporters of Asa Ron launch an assassination attempt on Tagon.  They failed to kill him but the situation became chaotic with different factions fighting each others.

The opportunity arrived for Eunseon to come back restore order.  Who will become leader of Arthdal?  Will the people accept an Igutu to be leader or many of them have to die or the Igutu done miraculous thing to save Arthdal before they accept such leader?  What will happen to Saya?  He will probably hate Eunseon and want to kill him for Tanya's affection.   Who will live who will die, who will be exiled, and who will remains?....not sure!   This reader prefers Tagon and Taealha to remain in Arthdal as king and queen, but doubt that will be the ending.

how fittingly that Eunsom destiny is not just to save the Wahan tribe.. but several tribes! :)

as of Saya I really do not know his purpose tho, maybe to create chaos :)... create a chaos in order to have order. Yin and Yang.

I am intrigued with Remus... who is he? was he not the great father? I remember Remus was a good strategist, that one of it's general is one of Saya's idol..  hope we can have his back story.

Saya and Eunseon are basically the same person... identical twins with the exactly the same gene.  One grew up alone in an ivory tower, reading strategy books, dreaming of being accepted, dreaming of becoming powerful, in a violent filled world where the better does not hesitate to kill, and where lives are cheap (as long as it's someone else's life).

Eunseon grew up in a primitive, innocent world.... granted there are some killing, but within the tribe, there is caring, nurturing and unity where his psych can be nurtured, albeit with some discriminations for his differences.  He also had the support of Tanya and her parents.

Hence this is like an experiment where the same person is placed in different environments and what is end up? An insecure, violent, vengeful, egotistical tyrant....and a sweet innocent boy... who is trying to right the wrongs..

...all at the same time!!!  the same person looking at his mirror (one raises the right hand, the other the left).

They said there were five “blue blood” survivors. As I remember we have met 3 so far. I’m wondering if the other two are the twins S. and E.? Maybe as the kids they thought the twins were also “blue-blood”?

You forgot Tagon the most powerful blue blood of all.  Guess no one knows about him.  After this he won't need to marry an Asa.  It seems he will need to survive a coup d'état.

Black to how many neanthals exist, we're not sure.  We know of three.

  21. So the old religion had Asa Sin and the messenger Aramun who was an Igutu.  Then the latter White Mountain tribe killed him and the old line perished, when Asa Sin departed to the south over the Great Black Cliff, bringing the relic with her.  since that time, the White Mountain has suppressed the thought that Aramun was an Igutu…. and brand all believers otherwise (the White Peak Mountain Heart society) as heretics.

Until Tanya becomes chief of the White Mountain tribe and is accepted by Arthdal people, there is no way Eunseon or Saya can declare themselves Igutu…. so it would be a while until either of them could wrestle power from Tagon.

So it's ok for Eunseon to suffer in the mine....   It's fascinating the expression on Tanya's face when she realizes that power will save the Wahan tribe... how is she going to find the relic?

Saya is a desperately lonely individual with a terrible secret that he cannot reveal (if saram finds out, he will be killed on the spot).  He when was young had a confidant who was killed by Hae Tuak at the order of Hae Taealha…. my guess is because the girl found out about Saya's blue blood.

All his life he was either hidden away, or furtively walk outside, not talking to anyone less they find out about his being Igutu.  In Tanya, he found some one who understands him, understands his needs (to be free) and his frustration (of being imprisoned).  She also taught him to use the sling, and open his world some what to the outside.  She despite her simplicity is not stupid.    She can think and make up her mind and can be quite rebellious (hence the various punching by Hae Tuak).  Saya admires people who are strong and intelligent.

She also reads his mind, or so he thought.  She saw him as a vulnerable boy hating birds for their freedom to fly, yet wanting to be like them so he can escape.

So when he found out about the secrets she kept from him, he was hurt, but at the same time he needs her!  Without her his oppressive world has no meaning, no joy.  In reality he would forgive her for almost any betrayal.  Plus, she put a spell on him at the end of episode 8 after she lifted it from Eunseon.

Tanya is a good influence on Saya... teaching him right from wrong.
