Why did I get the impression that Lee Chi Hoon and his very pregnant wife had already did "it" when the doctor was telling them that it would be best for them not to have sex since the baby is due in a few weeks? Sorry sister, you should have met him when he first got off the plane to give him that bit of advice...Lol!!!
Glad that I was not the only one who thought that way! It's impossible for them to actually be awkard at this stage of marriage, they must have done it countlessly and feel shy after being probed by the doctor. The father to be is a doctor as well, how can he not know?
Wow, this father to be had not gone in the army as told in the storyline right? I didn't know korea allowed their men to be doctors before conscription Falls upon them.
BTW, seriously, did our Sgt Maj had to break up? They fought so hard to be together yet broke so easily cause of anger.
It must have took alot for sgtmaj to quit army and go be a civilian. Army is basically his life. But I really respect what he had said. He wanted his ability and effort to be recognised by the commander on a professional level, to show that he is as competent and as indispensable as any other officer.
When he heard that the commander might ask him to stay because of his daughter wish would clearly undermine his ability and take a huge hit on his ego. He would never step out of that shadow if the latter was true.
What really respected me was that he said, whatever promises you made is with your daughter. There's nothing with me. If I had to give up something for her, I would gladly do it.
This whole scene was just so so awesome

HAHAHA. I DON'T ALWAYS AGREE WITH ARGUS, BUT I FOUND MYSELF NODDING MANY MANY TIMES WHEN HE SAID THAT. Ahahahaha.
The struggle is real when you stay up till 3am refreshing pages waiting for English subtitles and then giving up and sleeping and then loading the page the moment you are awake.I downloaded the raw at 11pm , waited around 3am for the eng subs, but its still not out, lingered around soompi till 4.30 am, fell asleep infront of the computer. Alarm went off at 6am to start my day. First thing I did was to check for english subs. Felt like i struck the powerball when i saw eng subs out by 6am.. Downloaded and xfered the subs and raw file to my cellphone whilst i was bathing.
Took the sub to school. The sub ride takes about 60mins. You know what was the best part!? As i sat down and took out my headphones, a mid 20s lady was already watching DOTS on her handphone with earphones plugged in already! I knew it was DOTS as I saw asparagus face on her phone. ( This was like at 7am on a paacked train, asparagus does not appear until the last quarter of the show, meaning she started DOTS at like 6am LOL way before I met her on the train. )
Yes, DOTS fever is really hot in my coountry now.

Seriously? DotS just freaking killed me. Why on earth was this ep 11 so gooooood????
Time like this I'm so thankful for Vietnamese subbing team (thank you kites!!). Don't know if Eng sub is up yet, so, my 2 fav scenes in this ep:
1. The guy at the Blue House's talk with Si Jin. He basically told Capt. not doing anything regarding Mo Yeon's kidnapping.
(rough translation)
Blue House guy: You think the country gave you a gun for this? This is not about the life or death of one individual, but about the country's sake.
Si Jin: The country doesn't care about the life or death of one individual? Then I don't know about that country of yours. I'll just go protect MY country.
>> I freaking died here.........
2. Mo Yeon's scene with Asparagus. Argus "adviced" her to break up with Si Jin, you could get that from his English lines.
Mo Yeon: Saying something like that, normal way is you gotta give me some money, right, and some drink. Just tell me to break up with him by your words?
>> You're a sassy a-ss Dr.Kang. I freaking love her character!!
****
Anw, told ya Daddy Yoon wasn't so bad! His call to Si Jin is to tell that he gives Capt. 3 hours. In that 3 hours he would not know anything about Si Jin's action, he wouldn't be a member of Alpha Team, not even a soldier of Korea. Basically, "do what you got to do, I won't help but won't block you either". In his position, that green light is as much as possible he could give Si Jin.
Man I'm dying waiting for ep 12 TT_TT

(Here comes my unsolicited comment on the episode haha)
Just finished watching the raw video and all I can say is THIS DRAMA ALWAYS EXCEEDS MY EXPECTATIONS. I was too skeptical with the intensity of the episode while I was still just reading the live recaps. But daaaammmn, I GOT A LOT OF GOOSEBUMPS THROUGHOUT THE EPISODE after watching the raw. From Manager Jin convulsing, to MJ getting blurred sight, to that montage of when the medic team was getting blood samples from everyone (it was shot really well), to MY saving Fatima from the police and to the last 15 minutes of the episode.
The guy playing Argus is quite a good actor. He is very convincing as a villain (that's why we're all pissed at him right now). I would actually give him credit for the added intensity of this episode.
And of course, our two main leads just always hit the jackpot when it comes to portraying through their eyes their emotions. SHK was already padded with a tape on her mouth but you could still feel the intensity from her eyes. Those longing gazes with SJ. AND SJK!!! Oh God, I think I just saw the haunting eyes of Kang Maru, those eyes ready to kill. He killed this episode. It's hard to not let those tears fall. I missed watching SJK with those angry eyes.
I CANNOT WAIT FOR THE SUBS.
Hahah, its time like this I wish i knew the korean language and can help all of you to sub

Finish watching ep 11 with my native language sub. The General does give SJ 3 hours to rescue MY. SJ uses the golden card to borrow a chopper: "Need a chopper for 1 hour. Have a date again"
May I know what is your native language sub? May I know where to download subs?

When I was watching episode 10, towards the end. Boy oh boy, after letting the audience know that there is only one doctor whom is infected really left me dying to know who!?
When I saw jin joo ran towards the military doctor and hugged her, I thought she's allright and he can have body to body contact with her, hence the hug which he would had usually avoided.
But my god, he actually didn't give a damn about the illness and went to hug her. No fear of infection there.
Allright from a guy perspective, I would do the same thing as well. If the girl of my life has any mishaps to her, I would definitely put my body on the line for her.
Wednesday come quick please!! I guess I have it easy compared to you guys already I just started watching and binged watched for 1 whole day. It's my first week of cold turkey and I am suffering already! I wonder how did you guys manage to overcome the long wait.. Hanging around soompi? Hahha.

Hahaha... I am from where you are. I know you're gonna ask, "Got meh? Can choose meh?" No. I'm not saying you can choose. But I am saying from experience (yes, once upon my deep dark past I actually worked somewhere in there..., plus there are many military regulars in my family) that your interests (especially for regulars) and inclinations are not disregarded. Of course, more often than not you don't get a choice, and if you do, it's not a "forever posting". But yes, you can express interest in your vocation. However, we're all familiar with that little fine print that says "contingent on the exigencies of service", and those few words can very often override everything else.
Ahhh! Now I finally know! My military life was a lie! Hahhaha. I should have expressed interest. Hahahaha.
4 hours ago, Meowth07 said:Woohoo! Told ya guys DotS portrays the military aspects well. So glad that now we even have real army men like @doctor23b and @gilaswan here to back it up. Gentlemen, thank you for supporting this drama and sharing your insights with us. Salute!
We've had a lot of police shows, medical shows... but military? Very few. So I'm beyond pleased with DotS doing one for the soldiers, and doing it well. Sure it is a drama, so things are romanticized, technical stuff are not always correct, but the most important thing imo is the SPIRIT, the MORALE, of the military. Along with other things like commands, ranks, respect, dangerous works, political/diplomatic side, and trivial things like how their time is not even their time, we got a glimpse of how hard of a job it is. I believe people will be more aware and more thankful for soldiers, so unlike the people who criticize, I got nothing to complain about.
I have one question, hope it's not too personal ahah. @doctor23b @gilaswan How is your dating/romantic life as a soldier? How do the girls react towards your job? I, for one, grew up with my dad being a Colonel, my neighbors are all army/police men, I always tell dad I'd never date a soldier (or policeman), "I want an easy normal life thank you!" (quite ungrateful of me, I know) and dad just laughs every time. So how hard is it for you when the girls know about your job?
Unfortunately, I broke up before I got in army. Stayed single throughout. There's practically no time for relationships. Maybe I was just too focused I met my wife in the army, she was my rifle. I hold it dearly upon me. Tee-hee. Anyways, girls do get bored whenever I share my army stories. Haha

I realise in my earlier post I talked about rank and moving between NCO and Officer levels.
Regarding appointments/vocations - whether you are in the Special Forces/Marines/Engineer/etc.: In part you are chosen for it. Before you begin your military career (be it as a full-time regular or part of compulsory conscription), you need to go for a medical check. This places you in various categories of physical fitness. If you are at the top of your form, you have the chance to be chosen for a physically demanding vocation such as the marines/special forces/seals/whatever it is called in your country. However, there are also other types of testing that need to be done, a crucial one being psychological testing. Can you apply to be part of such a corp of you are not selected? Sure. But again, all the tests need to be cleared. The military is actually no less complex than the private sector. You can always ask to be posted to a unit/division/job within your company which you really want. The powers that be still make the final decision based on a checklist they have. CPT Yoo is likely in the Special Forces because (1) he graduated top of his class (2) got sent on joint training with officers at West Point and (3) likely didn't reject the appointment when selected.
Hope all this makes watching DoTS somewhat clearer. Heh..
OK! NOW I MUST ACTUALLY START WORKING ON MY ESSAY!!!
Hi there! Great explanation about military stuffs. Erm i am just curious, you said from where you were, you have compulsory enlistment but could still express interest in your vocation. May I know where are you from? Haha. Cause that's really awesome. You can serve your time in somewhere you like!

...my responses as I read your response: 1. "So basically everyone starts off the same as a recruit" Oh really? Totally unexpected! 2. "...to become an officer you go through the training when ur really young" Holy Crap "People whom are 24 and above can't take the intense pressure physically anymore" So wait, question: Do people choose to be in a special force and have to apply? My bro-in law was a Navel Seals Intelligence Officer. Till this day, he still won't say too much (he's retired now and is a Sex crime detective for the city) but sometimes share stories of the past so I'm curious from your background and experience what the process is like. --- 3. Your last sentence made me go 'you got to be kidding me' Thanks for your insight once more...
Oh wait one more thing, so technically, if you miss the boat per say, if you don't get chosen to test to become an officer, you can't ever go back and be tested again? So DY can never grow in ranksto be officer?
Yes, you can apply to be part of your nation special forces, it's just that there are strict procedures to go through. Numerous background checks and tests. Yea most of the training are confidential and we are known not to leak any training details.
Yes, you can still be an officer. You could try officer school in a later age but there's the age factor included. You don't get special treatment just cause your older.
Oh jin joo prolly won't want to go officer school too. I mean it depends on your countries military progression. There are many paths to get commissioned. But from where I am, going through officer school is the only path.
Jin joo could rise in rank and hit a very well respected rank in the NCO corps but as portrayed in this show, the commander don't really like the idea.

Hello! Ok, we always got to bear in mind that this show is still a Korean drama! It's modelled after the military and we take every line they say with a pinch of salt. Hahha. If all the military aspect would to be pin point correct. I don't think the show would be so successful.
Yea some women do have fantasies about man in uniform, be it a soldier or fireman or police. Just like how men have fantansies on nurses and air stewardess.
Hahhah. It's just a mere sterotypical thing. I don't find it shallow, lol. Look at the point where he got sent to detention. When u really get sent to detention, you get handcuffed and military police comes and fetch you to the cold lonely cell. Just like prison. But you don't have a prison when ur in a overseas base right? So you get locked up and kept away in a room or structure. Lol at how he joked he wished he got detention at the food stock instead.
Yes, I am a 23 year old guy whom had served in the army as a commisoned officer.
26 minutes ago, lilhanh said:First of all, THANK YOU for keeping us non-military folks here in the loop! I love all your facts and information. I didn't realized there's such a huge distinction to say the least between a NCO and a commissioned officer. My question is, how can a NCO become a commissioned officer? Is it because of education? Can a person of experienced be promoted from NCO to C. Officer? Can they go back to school or pass some written test?
Oh...and one more thing....WOOOOOTTT!!!!!! It's so nice to have a man's point of view in this forum. Just sayin' We like diversity and different point of views in this forum. Makes it nice and special. The power of DOTS. Welcome to the club @doctor23b!
You are welcome. Yeap, the difference between a commisoned officer and NCO is really huge. Perks and responsibilities as well.
So basically, everybody starts off the same as a recruit. The better performing ones whom are physically fitter and have at least a degree or diploma gets chosen to go officer cadet school. The rest remains as men some get chosen to be nco. Training an officer takes up to 2 to 4 years and NCO prolly around a year.
Usually, a NCO whom is really experienced do not become a commisoned officer. Instead they become warrant officers. ( which means they hold the same responsibilities as commisoned officers but are not authorised by the president or state to carry out orders for them. ) it's really lengthy to explain but I could go on if you want me to haha.
You see, the captain in the show did mention that jin joo treated him like crap and gave him hell trainings when he was a trainee undergoing the special forces course. This would mean that jin joo is older and more experience but just because he is a nco, he would still have to listen to the captain now hahha.
Oh no, to become an officer you go through the training when ur really young. People whom are 24 and above can't take the intense pressure physically anymore. You don't just go to officer school and take exams and get the rank. You go through a series of training and hell torture before you earn your right to wear the rank. You also are trained how to be a gentleman, how to wear your clothes, how to dine, drink, sit how to act accordingly with a female date during formal military dinner and ball dances.

7 minutes ago, winterbubbletea said:Actually your information is quite informative. If you could provide some resources on aspects of the interactions and also the structure of the military it would be great. Also how often does changing platoon occur? Also if you have any information on call signs, I would be grateful. I was reading up on call signs and it states that mostly calls signs were usually given if there were bloopers. Thanks.
Hi there! About interactions, what do you mean by that? During in camp or off camp? In camp, certain protocols are strictly adhered to. Example an enlistee ( which means non commissioned officer ) would have to greet and come to attention and salute a commisoned officer. You address officers by Sir/Mdm. When you offer a salute to someone, you salute them first and you only put down your hand after the person of higher rank lowers down their hands.
You behave accordingly to certain occasions. For example the part whereby the commander asks the 3 soldiers and doctor into the room for a briefing by him. When he says " take a seat " notice how only the doctor literally grabs a chair and wants to almost sit down. That part got me cracking up like crazy! If I ever got called up by the formation commander and he told me to take a seat I would never dare to do that and I would stand at attention just like those 3 soldiers! It's out of respect. Hahhaha.
When your off duty, ranks do not play a part and you can mingle around just like friends! Note how they go cafe hopping and play arcade games when off duty!
Structure of military? Do you mean by ranks or manpower size? A section consist of 7 men ( this is the ideal manpower size recommend by the us army. ) A section is headed by a Sgt and than a platoon Sgt leads around 3 to 4 sections. The platoon Sgt than reports to the platoon commander. There would be like 4 platoon to a company. So all the 4 platoon commander reports to the officer in command which is played by the captain in the show.
Jin joo is a company Sgt major. Which means all the platoon Sgt reports to him. Officers and enlistees operate differently but together hand in hand.
Ok, you don't usually change your platoon. ( boy, we could go on forever here) You serve in your platoon cause you serve with those who are trained the same way as you. But in this show, they are the special forces. So they should have a mixed of platoons. Example a platoon would shoot rifles, a platoon would lay mines , a platoon would build bridges.
Regarding call signs, its a very unique thing. My call sign in the military is very close to the captain in the show. Hahha.
You get to choose your own call signs, it's like your unique username when ur registering for an email or online game. It reflects your personality and it can be of anything random.
Why do we have call sign? Because let's say we are on operations and if the enemies had tapped into our radio wavelength, they would know whom is who and giving out what commands. So having a call sign can mask your identity. Nobody knows who you are over the radio. I had a platoon mate who called himself handsome. Hahha.
Do note, call signs are usually in 2 syllabus. Because that's for the ease of communicating. Example big boss to tiger. Any call signs with 3 syllabuses are frowned upon. Imagine you are on the mic 24/7 on missions and it gets really frustrating when you call out to people with 3 syllabuses. It's just not that smooth hahha.
Why big boss and wolf were chosen as the call signs? I guess cause the captain is the only always calling the shots and everybody listens to his commands. He is like the big boss of everything. Wolf, cause he speaks little but packs a punch and lethal bite and is really fierce.
Hope I helped you on the aspect of military knowledge!

Yeap, i took note of this drama when my classmate was watching it instead of listening to the lecturer. I was thinking, fwah military drama? Guess they cannot portray what I have went through during my active service. Goona be another lovey doey useless drama. How would they know what is real military service? Another eye candy show meant for the ladies. But, I got more suspicious when I noticed my mother went to watch it raw 1x and than subbed the 2nd time.
Took a leap of faith and watched the first episode. Oh gawd, I straight bing-ed watched for 12 hours straight. Lost count of time already and had to just come in here and comment.
This is a great show! No wonder so many people are following it. Firstly, it portrays exactly how does one feel for each other in the army. If you had served before, this is exactly how it feels like. Fighting for one another, doing things which can hurt you so much but you know its worthwhile for the country.
You hate the orders, but you suck it up like a man and reply, Yes Sir!
For those who didn't went to the army before, let me tell you something cool. In the show the main char is a captain. A captain is a junior officer rank whereby they are appointed to be of company level command rank/status. They usually head a company of soldiers which consists of platoons and platoons consists of men. In a company, the captain is the overall commanding officer. He is usually commissioned and is assisted with the sergeant major. Which is Jin Joo. When I was a platoon commander, I too had my platoon seargeant where we both would work very closely together just to execute our missions and make sure the welfare and morale of our men are taken note of.
Yes,commissioned officer seems cool but everything could not be done if there was no help of the non-commissioned officer. The very healthy relationship in this show between the 2 main characters is very very admirable. In the real military world, there are bound to be politics and pushover of ranks, but seeing the 2 of them working so hard together, entrusting each other lives in both parties really made me shed a tear.
The military aspect in this show is really accurate i gotta hand it to them, so meticulous planned. What I liked about Jin Joo is that he saw a spark in that young punk in episode 1 and brought him in to the military. I myself had sent people into detention barracks and had new recruits under me. The moment whereby they come in like a piece of richard simmons, but after that they really change into someone you never expect them to turn out, yet they are still grateful to you. That is what the army can do. Turn boys into real man.
But maybe it is due for the funny element of the show. The female First Lt, commanding Jin Joo around was really cuteee. Hahah, we always joked in the army that we would take on any orders and punishment if it was from a female officer. ( you know how little females there are. ) But what the show is trying to highlight here is something the audience should understand. Why are they being frowned upon?
Because in the military, ranks are the most pinnacle thing one refers to and even salutes. If your a commissioned officer, the military takes better care of you and have better monetary welfare benefits for you too. Fun fact, if a captain and a sergeant is on a commercial plane chartered to go overseas training, do you know the first and business class seats are for commissioned officers only. Sergeants and men would take the normal seats ( economy class ) this is how big the difference is. They sleep differently to prevent fraternization to occur.
So how can a commander of the special force whom has such an awesome doctor, soldier as a daughter have a lowly nco to be the boyfriend? It would immediately pass of as a laughing stock to the whole military world. I know it might sound childish, but when I was first watching the show and I realized a nco and officer are dating? How could that possibly happen!?! ( yea sounds abit like the indian caste system, i am sorry hahaha ) Glad the show portrayed this aspect and yea, hope they get together in the end. Jin Joo is great NCO material, would be a loss to the Korea country if he went to lead a civilian life.
Fun fact, I think that their uniform are changed to khaki sand color is because they are operating in the desert, its a complimentary thing to do so. I guess the show modeled them after the ISAF. With US military leading as the head joint ops. Google International Security Force for more info.
Sorrry to bore you girls with the military details! If you ever need more info do ask me! Hehehe. Go out there and hug or say thanks to anyone whom you know is serving the country! Keep the flag flying high!! (ok this reminds me about those dreaded roll calls and flag raising hahahah.) Ciao!~

@JenL Yeap, that's right! He came to Singapore for a lightning 24 hours promotion for WISYA.
There is more info here Jasper's Sg trip
He said that the last time he was here was with his family when he was holidaying as a kid. All the memories of SG faded away as he grew up. All he had left is a Merlion ( that is our national icon , it's a mixture of lion and fish , don't ask me why haha. ) shaped cup in his kitchen.
When he was brought to the merlion, he said memories of his childhood came flooding back to him hahah. The crew explained to him that the old merlion had already been changed to the new one which is bigger and grander. So how could those memories could possibly come back? Haha.
He took this trip as a short break as WISYA had not ended filming. He came to Singapore for the chicken rice and chili crab was thankful for the great hospitality of SG fans and left a very refreshed and energized guy.
Oh ya, he said he was really touched when a female Singaporean fan took 2 months to learn traditional Chinese, we learn the simplified characters here. She wrote a 2k long word essay and told Jasper that she is going to Taiwan to further her studies as she wants to be able to breathe the same kind of air as Jasper.
Now that is a hardcore fan.

Seriously!? Did no one here talked about Sgt Maj combed back his 2 sides of his hair with his fingers trying to appear feminine?
That part got me cracking up the whole night! Hahhaha. So unexpected! I liked the part in ep13 when he was drunk as well, he's so cute when drunk tgth with CPT Korea.
I was just thinking, both the CPT and Sgt Maj need each other in real life and in the army as well. To co relate better. Hahha, I am rewinding the back combing hair part now as I type.
Anyway, it sure was a very sweet and nice moment for this episdoe. What they did is so significant that both countries could come to an agreement. But wow, when I sat the nk soldier got hit in the hotel room, I thought he was dead. What an awesome twist.
I am 100% sure that the company which made the cracker ( it appeared like macaroons to me ) which had a listening device in it sure paid huge advertisement money. The nk guy even wanted to eat it before going off! Such cool project placement.
Why do I think that the storyline is very well thought out? Because a show which is about to end can actually link back to EP 1 is really awesome, shows how much effort and thought is planned in the drafts.
And what sup with the preview. Is somebody dead? I am so sick of my local newspaper printing on front page that CPT is going to die. I mean lol, even the actors refuses to say anythjng, how did all these rumours came about?
DOTS took over my nation's importance of news it seems.
