Seriously, the final episode really made me in tears. It feels like I understand how Hae Soo and Wang So feelings for each other. I think it was a beautiful ending, because their love was immortal. But, I couldn't understand, why Ji Mong left out from the palace? And after he walked out, the eclipse was happened. Was it a coicindence?

The withdrawals is hitting me hard. I am randomly blanking or staring in space thinking of scenes from the last episode and it overwhelms to the point of tearing up. I have a headache from a combination of no sleep, crying and the feeling of missing someone.

New BTS from Namoo Vlive channel.
It looks like they are shooting the break up scene and the shadow play scene. I suppose these two were LJG's last shooting. Other casts visited him on set.

I agree! It was bittersweet at most. It felt real because even though they can't be together, their love was real and there's even a daughter as a proof of it. Endings like this make me anxious, but are also the types of endings that stick with me the most... just like 5 centimeters per second as an example.
I like that expression, bittersweet. It matches the overall tone of the drama which was dark and painfully rich of heart-wrenching elements.

Overall , I am skeptical on how they will pull a modern wang so when in fact it was the Goryeo Wang So all along that made Hae Soo and Go Ha Jin uttered "Sorry" for leaving him there all alone.
The modern wang so can't redeem himself to become the Wang So that Hae Soo have known .
Also, there could be a tendency for SHR to be compared to Splash Splash Love , and that is a KBS drama .
The production respected the novel's after all. (C-Drama have the ending of modern Yin Zhen, so I am not expecting a lot for SHR to follow the drama when the material is based on the novel)
The child arc and still born was beautifully done, at least for Hase Soo , she gave birth to a daughter, the fruit of the SoSoo love which counters the history of Queen Yeon Hwa's having a son with Gwangjong. That I will be definitely heartbroken if GJ YH consummated the marriage with an offspring and SOSOO have none?
As I mentioned in Twitter , the PD/JG 's saying that this is a happy ending is a rumor. I wonder who founded that.
This is a dark drama , after all.
It appears that we do belong in the minority. Lets hold hands and stay strong. I'm just glad I'm not completely alone.
I agree with your points regarding modern Wang So. There is a delicate balance between telling a love story with a historical background, add to that involving a very prominent historical figure.

If I'm not mistaken he also said something about nothing is a coincidence and that fate or destiny has a way of completing its cycle. I will wait for the Eng sub tomorrow to confirm this statement and with that statement alone, I would like to believe that the ending is not that bad. It's not great but it's not s*****y either. We get that WS is a very determined character and he wouldn't let HS go if he gets things done his way. Now that he knows that HS has always loved him, he's more determined than ever to find her and the eclipse is a foreshadow of his imminent time travel. This type of open-ending opens the floodgate for any interpretation of what could have or would have happened in future and I'm in the opinion that they will indeed meet and HS will fulfil her promise to really really love WS if they happen to meet at a different world, time and place. I will hang on to that thin thread just to maintain my Kdrama-life-sanity.
There was a mention of the movie "Gone with the Wind" here previously and your post reminded me of that movie's ending. Just like Rhett and Scarlet, I want to believe that WS and HS will meet at a different world, time and place as well.
Kdrama-life-INsanity is more like it. It fully describes why I am still up at 5:37am. goodnight people see you tomorrow with eyebags and all.

My question, does So knows or suspect who's the father of that little girl? He did ask how old is she to Jung and Jung didn't answer. So must have thought Jung is the father. But then again if So knows he is the father he would have taken the child to live in the palace, the one thing that Haesu didn't want.
I think the moment when WS comments that the kid looks too big to be Jung's daughter then proceeds to ask him her age would indicate that he did the math in his head. The kids age plus 9 months baking period as suppose to marriage period with HS. Plus at this time, WS had read all of HS's letters (confirming their only love for each other) so that would have meant being faithful only to WS til the end of her life.
So with these thoughts in his head and Jung kneeling to plead that the daughter remain with him, WS decides to lift Jung's exile and encourages him to visit the palace. Most probably with thoughts of subtlety hanging out with HS 2.0. You know come up with inviting all nieces and nephews to crown prince birthday party. But yeah like you said WS accepts HS's last wishes not to claim her so she can live outside the palace (away from the danger ie YH) under Jung's protection.

Neither I, but people were already complaining that just seeing them in the future wouldn't be enough, so either way, there would be complainings and hate. In the end, the biggest problem of Moon Lovers was time... we didn't have time for everything we wanted.
I guess it was to let So know there is a proof of their love alive and well... I found the baby plot very sweet
We NEED a special more than anything else now. I'm not mad at how the drama ended, but I still wanna see them in the future ( hopefully a full hour of it)
Also, this ending gave me strong vibes that they did plan for a season 2, HS hair change, new Ji Mong, she wake up in her bed and not in the lake... it seems like even her future was changed.... but with the low ratings in Korea it won't happen and maybe that's why they omitted Future!Wang So? To not give people hope for a season 2...?
Yes.Yes. and Yes please.

I am happy with the ending. I loved that I am left with an image of Wang So, the character who came to know and loved. In my own opinion, a future reincarnated version would have been to wishy washy. (Though I wouldn't have mind seeing a modern LJG) I like how he's alone with the palace as its background and its all dark with him exposing his scar again and declaring he will find his dear Haesoo in another lifetime. I thought it was a very cool and dramatic last image of WS.
The daughter....I mean realistically and historically that scenario they presented was most satisfactory to me. GJ can't keep the kid in the palace but at least he knew of her. I'm just super happy they didn't go with the miscarriage plot. whew
Notably both characters equally finished longing for each other. GJ in Goryeo time after HS death and HS in present time with her memory of him. Its somehow poetic.
The very last scene with them in the lane by the lake is I think made for solely for the fans to at least end in a positive note. It was sweet and shows a snippet of their normal everyday life without the extreme drama we only witnessed.
HS/GHJ(?) was never from Goryeo period so it was borrowed time. So it was epic that they found each other and experienced love, friendship, misunderstandings, trust, heartbreak, loneliness, misery....gawd this is getting dark.
Can we talk about the scene where the eclipse happens and it passes by Wang So's face? It was breathtakingly beautiful. I was fully impressed with that. (waits for the gif lols)
Sorry for the scattered notes above. It reflects my current state of thoughts.

I take back everything negative I ever said about this show. Right now, I am just overwhelmed with all kinds of emotions like the colours of the rainbow. But mostly, I am thankful for everyone who made this drama possible. I truly truly loved it! It is one of those rare dramas that pop up that just hits all the marks for me. Thanks everyone for sharing this fulfilling experience with me. Lets continue to discuss, share gifs and fangirl over WS (other whoever your preference may be) for as long as we can. Hugs to everyone!

I don't think that is Smile of Relief. Why?
Because immediately after she smile, she looks down (her eyes level). This is for me, the smile of someone who has been surrender. Defeated.
She try to change everything but end up failing.
Yes true but I think its both....The smile from having achieved what she needed the most freedom however immediately following that is the realisation that it comes with the price of not seeing WS anymore and like you said surrendering to the immense pressure.

Yes, some may say that she should just spend the rest of her remaining life with Wang So while she still can (is this not being selfish as well if she did), however, if you look back at yesterday's episode and the previous ones, clearly Yeon Hwa (I hope I got her name correct. ) has given HaeSoo some sort of reality check and confrontation that all deaths were caused by HaeSoo's interference. This is a major blow for HaeSoo after her friend, Chae Ryung's, death. HaeSoo started to blame herself for all that has happened and with all this blame (that YH had said to her ), HaeSoo just couldn't endure it anymore and needs to muster the courage to leave her love, Wang So, to prevent any further casualties (which I think it's a bit too late since most of them died already. LOL). Probably what hurts her even more is that she cannot speed her remaining days with Wang So just a bit longer as she had wished.
3 hours ago, antiherofans said:Hae Soo has told WS REPEATEDLY that she want to leave the palace and she told him the real reason. But he choose not to listen to her. And for her last effort to make him understand, she choose to accept Jung's proposal.
And the last one, how good is LJG portraying the broken heart king. He looks so hurt, disappointed, angry, and defeated when he realize Wook-Soo past relationship. So much pain for Wang So.
Just a thought after my second viewing of ep 19.
What if when HS first asked GJ to give her permission to leave the palace is simply to leave the palace and not equating to "lets break up, end this and never see each other again" She was feeling burdened from all the deaths and especially getting tugged because of politics. She just needed to be away from the rotten place. Although leaving meant they wont "live together" anymore but doesn't mean they cannot see each again.
Now since GJ cannot allow such distance between them she resorted to accepting Jung's proposal. If you guys remember HS once said to WS on an earlier episode...something along the lines of "Is it a crime to want to live"
She wanted to live, maybe extend her life a little, maybe occasionally see GJ instead of growing to resent him in that place where she feels to be slowly dying.
My greatest whinge from this episode is direction and writing especially the transition from "final break up" to HS leaving Damiwon" scene. The length of her devastation was too short and lacking in emotion and impact. Her smiling from relief the next day was longer in length in terms of seconds which made it appear unbalanced to me as a viewer.

Also someone mentioned they would like to know what GJ was reading before HS left. It's not HS's diary, but "Zhengguan Zheng Yao - a summary of the importance points of taizong's governance", a book by Emperor Taizong of Tang (it is credited in Wikipedia as "difan"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gwangjong_of_Goryeo) It is often used as an exemplary text for kings to learn how to govern effectively.
Brilliant! Thank you so much! That gives me a better idea of the mood he is in at that moment.

The book was HS diary written in Hangul. Chae Ryung stole it from HS. Remember when Wook's mother went to WS abt against his intention to get married to HS? Queen Hwangbo was the one who overheard CR & Won talked abt CR to stay in the palace to spy on HS
Oh was it? Maybe i got crossed eyed for a moment from watching two streams at the same time. I thought I saw Chinese characters and not hangul. Thanks for the clarification chingu.

I'm looking forward to the brilliant essays here to give me a more layered understanding of tonight's episode. (Well except for YH because I don't care to understand any deeper. Her venom directed at HS at the Damiwon scene was beyond vicious.
Won is the only one left in the palace. Hmmm...he's the true masochist. He will have to live there forever looking over his shoulder and not knowing when GJ will ask him to repay his long anticipated debt.
Does anyone have any idea the book WS was reading while speaking with JM? The scene where JM tells him if HS leaves he will lose himself. They seem to have spent a couple seconds on it. I wonder if it is relevant.
Somehow I wished there was a sbs version (edited) episode tonight. The feel for this version is slightly off. I've found that the post edited versions were always an improved version because of its slight re-arrangement, background music, additional scenes and etc. I dunno maybe my mind is spoiled knowing that there could be other possibilities.
I feel drained because I feel like I was that one who broke up with someone tonight. How many times has it now?

Good. Even tho this drama has been a pure torture and endless pain for me, I can't help but excited to see WS's wrath. And also his regret after HS death.
I am in to deep, there is no turning back
Bring the pain to the max
MLSHR, you turn me into a sadist
yes that is true! its almost the end of the line so let's brace ourselves with the inevitable.
I haven't been this much invested in a kdrama in a long time (the first time was 3 years ago). I'm intrigue with the experience which I know will only come a few in between.

I'm banking on WS having a momentary breakdown of emotions on the next episode (based on the preview). The confirmation from HS regarding her past with WW is what finally breaks him and releases all that pent up anger.
He has had an inkling of WW capabilities on the earlier episodes. And as of late, he has been heavily suspecting him of orchestrating all the major game changing events in the palace. He knows that WW has been on the other end of his puppet strings and has been cleverly tugging his collar to do his bidding. WS acknowledges WW as his biggest political nemesis in court. He subtly controls the court and pushes WS in the corner to force him into a decision.
WW not only rivals him in court but also in affairs with the heart. At this point, I feel like WS could have rationalize his jealousy with any another man except WW. WS misplaces his outburst and declares to never see her again because of this. But its an extreme reaction he will take back.
I think there will be two more deaths that will finally solidify HS's decision to leave. WH and one more prince/brother. It will crush HS, thinking that spilling of blood will never end inside the palace. By then she would have witnessed more deaths than she can count on one hand.

omg! where to start?! so much has happened in one episode! my mind and heart could not cope with the speed and the amount of information it was trying to cram in such a short amount of time.
The most unexpected turn that happened tonight was Wang So's sudden decision to payback what was due to him after all these years of being wronged. For me, it seemed like the agreeing to marry YH was what turned it on. He was hell bent in collecting the debt that was owed to him. Nothing could hold him back even threatened HS if she goes against him. richard simmons he's scary when he turns it on.
I saw both versions tonight however I'm not that good with live recapping so I leave it to the experts. My measly contribution, a difference to each version (tsktsk editors)
Internaltional: Wang So's drool
SBS: No drool

and yes i echo your thoughts, sadly out of all the princes i never liked Won and Jung. I just dont understand the rational for all their actions.
plus he blames all the complications all because So came back to the palace! Dude! Your mom and bro were already planning to kill Mo and take over by all means necessary. When he takes it out of So I get irritated coz he sounds like irrational kid.

Queen Yoo... honestly... there must be some level of hell reserved for someone like her. Meanwhile I'd like to pitchfork her. Gimme a front row seat with popcorn in one hand. The way she poisoned her sons and turned them against each other was pretty disgusting. She's a Nazi through and through. All this "perfect in every way" talk really gets my goat. Now she's got Jeong as her tool too. Honestly that boy needs to wake up to himself and get a grip on reality. Su cops a lot of flack for being naive but this boy actually grew up in the palace in Goryeo, what's his excuse?
He frustrates me as well. I thought he opened his eyes with regards to the evil concoctions made by his mother and late brother. He was disgusted with them after that "family dinner" and yet he has circled back to siding with them. You would have thought he had grown matured along with his fashion sense and hairstyle.
Ps I loved reading your post!

One scene in ep 16 that left an impression on me was this
1) Their background is the Buddha/deities which are supposed to teach compassion and love but YO is doing crazy things infront of the very altar he had been praying to.
2) All three men, in love with Soo, couldnt stop YO from crushing HS's wrist.
3) Jung and Wook are in one alliance, standing together, WS is standing further away which is a clear display of their relationship.
4) Jung ever the warrior wants to step in physically but was restrained by Wook who always used mental strategy. SO always sacrifice himself for HS and got to his kneels and plead that it was indeed his fault. Wook then suggested to discuss this topic without the servants, hence excusing HS.
Thus we see the different personalities of the brothers and their modus operandi.
Brilliant writing, brilliant directing.
Yeah i agree! That scene was brilliant! All of them in one room. Each one with their own emotions (somewhat) completely hidden from one another.
We do see the brothers' own approach to the situation at hand. That's why I can never fully blame the Jung and Wook because a person's feelings and intentions are each to their own. In your head, you rationalize your actions to be true and in the right.

I have to get this off my chest on how I am hopelessly obsessed I am with this drama and especially with LJK playing as WS. When I watched the "break up" scene in episode 16. For that moment I was utterly convinced that WS was breaking up with me that I had a mental brain freeze. I actually muttered the words "No, please don't break up with me" while getting teary eyed. I was devastated then back to reality with embarrassment and self-consciousness setting in.
Spoilerthen he gave an intense pause here. (look at those eyes and the blur of everything concentric from the point)
It was how the scene was set up. The extreme close ups which made it seem it was a one on one conversation with the viewer. LJK's cold expressions when he turns it on really gives me (literally) the chills. I was in crying when I first saw it, I got emotional again when I saved the screenshots and even now got teary eyed when I think of it. Maybe I am just hormonal but I will remember that moment personally.
