  1. Hope everyone is doing well and staying healthy. 2020 has been a crazy year. I spent a lot of time watching dramas and even an anime feature film. I’m currently watching KSH’s comeback drama and enjoying it tremendously.

It’s been ages since DH was in the news. I’m really wondering what other plans her company has in store for her, apart from XHS and promoting in China.

I have a feeling that Cherry is gone now, or at least close to it....I can’t think of any other reason why DH would spend so much time with Greaten. I think the new puppy is meant to help DH get over Cherry or at least prepare her for the eventuality. :anguished:

  2. I have also finished CLOY and am currently watching Itaewon Class. CLOY made me a fan of SYJ, though I have always liked HB and PSJ. I don’t actually see DH collaborating with HB in the foreseeable future. Perhaps when they are in their 40s/50s and if they are still acting then there might be a chance (acting as parents of the leads lol). DH has taken involuntary retirement.... it’s not voluntary I don’t believe. She has had bad luck and management in the last ten years. Hopefully the next ten years will be better for her. I have stopped waiting around for her next project...-_- now watching three dramas concurrently to take my mind off the virus situation!

Her latest XHS update is quite funny. The bit where she smirked was when she was recommending medicine for constipation LoL

  3. Thank you all! Well there wasn't much of a LNY celebration over here because of the virus. We thought the social unrest was dying down after the TW elections but what do we have now instead?  The number of cases will apparently peak in April/May before dying down in the summer. There are reports that Beijing is administering antiviral medicines used for AIDS. Apparently alcohol and heat are effective in killing this virus. Stay vigilant!

I heard DH took down her Shanghai post after it attracted criticism in the media. She was in Shanghai a few days before she posted the pictures so she was probably right in saying that it was all fine when she was there. K media and netz making a mountain out of a molehill as usual, although I am disappointed her agency didn't address it. Her C fans are angry at the treatment she is getting in the K press. I don't give a hoot about what they say but this doesn't bode well for her future career opportunities in Korea.

To keep my mind off al the negative news I have been watching Crash landing upon you and Grand Maison Tokyo.

  4. @apqaria @Annya she mentioned Harbin in her Weibo posts and how the cold weather made her behave abnormally (like eating ice lolly haha). In her latest post, she said the horse must be tired and should take a rest (so she can get off the carriage). I can’t imagine how cold it is there if even Koreans find it cold!

I hope the bosses have other plans for her apart from hanging out together and promoting cosmetics even though I’m loving all their updates. Life is too short to be serious all the time!

  5. Looks like DH is in Harbin! Harbin is in Northeastern China and is one of the coldest places in China. I think she is there for the annual Ice and Snow Festival.

This place is on my bucket list too! It reminds me of the ending in Chuno whereby DH and OJH were headed for the Qing (Chinese) border-they would probably have ended up somewhere south of Harbin.

  6. @Annya @apqaria I am loving all her recent updates! Glad she is getting along well with the boss. I am disappointed though that there hasn’t been any updates of her on their Instagram account. If they can find roles for their other actresses, surely they can find something for her? I am not entirely sure what her recent event is all about, but it’s probably some sort of promotional activity related to Jayjun’s connections. It’s not for any specific brand I don’t think.

Actually I love watching her eat the most, much more than her beauty routines. She makes the food look so yummy. Loved her Jeju video! It looks like GD has sold the coffee shop to someone else?

  7. @Annya Thanks for the links! I will watch Star Echo first as it’s only two episodes. I love her hair with big bouncy curls as it gives it more volume. I’m still on the fence about what plans her agency has in store for her. The event she attended in China was related to Jayjun so hopefully she will have earned enough brownie points with the boss. I would be happy with whatever acting project they can find her. A female centric project would be good if she can play a supporting role to an older actress.

I saw her Jeju video and it was so fun. The date on her phone said she was there on 24 November. Didn’t she also go there with her team in November 2014? I remember seeing some pictures of her wearing sunglasses at the orchard. Can’t find those pictures anymore.

  8. Annyeong! It's been a long time since I posted here. The last couple of months have been quite tough for me. Hope all is well everyone!

Thanks for sharing her pics here. I love her bouncy hair and airport fashion (even copied her white jeans and brown boots look yesterday lol). Her evening dress is amazing too. Btw, does anyone know where I can watch her 2004 videos Star Echo and 18 year old bride? I didn't realise Lee Joon Gi was also in Star Echo. LFF was on YT but not the other ones.

    More pics below.

@apqaria Good to see her enjoying her time with new friends.Comparing these days with old days, i can't complain much now.Hope we get some good news abt her project. The script of recent kdrama are not upto par comparing to old drama.

I am genuinely happy for her that she is living such a (seemingly) carefree life. This is already much better than her previous drought periods we had to endure. It’s really not that easy to get roles in the current environment. The ratings for Korean dramas have been stagnant for some time now and the lower the ratings, the lower the revenue for broadcasting stations which translates into lower production budgets, etc. Internationally, K dramas are slowly losing their appeal as the rest of Asia catches up.

    Off topic

    Spoiler

I have just finished watching Meteor Garden 2018 and for some unknown reason I really enjoyed it despite all its flaws. Maybe it reminded me of my younger days and the male lead Dylan Wang is just SO charismatic and captivating! He is Dao Ming Si personified. This is the first time I have been touched by the romance in a drama since Hotel King and I have watched a lot of dramas since HK. I liked the cast so much that I told my son to try out one of character’s hairstyle! He is probably thinking that his mum has gone mad (and he is probably right haha).  I will be watching the Japanese version next.

  10. DH has been seen with the CEO of Jayjun CEO Wang Teng in China. So I guess this is a business trip after all, since Nana from her new agency (her boss actually) travelled with her too. If my guess is right, her friend So Yoo Jin will also join FN Entertainment. It appears to me that the CEO of FN is in charge of Korean activities and while his wife is in charge of Jayjun activities.

News of her building was also posted in Weibo.

    https://m.weibo.cn/2962520661/4389921907796071

Now I get what the fuss is all about. The old building had an under-utilised plot ratio which had reconstruction potential, but it was on a slope and that’s how she got it at a below market price. Not many investors can be bothered with reconstruction work. Apparently, if the foundation/soil on the slope is strong enough, there is potential to add a basement which will increase total saleable/useable area even more (3 times the original size). I don’t know anything about construction costs in Korea, but the way the expert opinion in the article was phrased implies that she is already in the money.

PS. It's been a while since I checked Weibo. Glad to see toxic fans of other celebrities no longer throwing abuse at her.

  11. @apqaria Thanks for sharing! I wonder why her building value has made it to the news this time. It’s not the first time it has been reported. About a year after she bought it and before rebuilding started, there was an article saying the value of the old building had gone up by 20-30%. The cost of rebuilding will determine how much paper profit has been made but I think DH bought it as an investment to generate income and not for resale purposes. As long as the rental yield is not less than 2-3% she should have good steady net income after deducting mortgage payments on the property.

I think the purpose of the article is to say that no matter how run down a property is, as long as it is in a good location the value will go up eventually. DH has a keen eye for these things.

Koreans have the same mindset as the Chinese when it comes to money management. Bricks (real estate) are the safest form of investment. Even if the market crashes there’s still a roof over your head! High risk high return investments don’t seem to be DH’s cup of tea fortunately.

  12. @Annya Thanks for the translation. It is pretty accurate compared to the Korean-English ones that come up with nonsensical words. I want that Kiss Me hand cream too as I suffer from very dry hands. The way she kissed that cream was so funny (she said thank you for saving my hands)

Does anyone know if DH has only one dog now? When she held up Cherry I thought for a minute that she was going to give him away too, haha! DH surely doesn’t hold back her kisses with people she likes. We have seen it with Bada and now Cherry.

@apqaria I am watching www search and Arthdal Chronicles at the moment. Both are entertaining in different ways. Am looking forward to Park Ha Sun’s new drama since I watched the J version couple of years ago and was impressed by it. I wish DH can get a steamy role like that too. B)

  13. @PK T welcome back! Hope you are well. I too was surprised to see her shopping in 100 yen shops. DH sure knows how to manage her expenses. I won’t be surprised if she buys her airplane tickets with miles! I also like that she doesn’t wear designer brands from head to toe and instead, she saves up money for big ticket items/investments, traveling and the occasional designer items. Her building must be worth a lot more after it was torn down and rebuilt. Hope her tenants are paying her good rent. I remember a fellow fan said to me, don’t feel bad for DH’s lack of opportunities in her career, she is already better off than a lot of people who have to worry about paying rent and putting food on the table.

Drama roles are hard to come by these days, especially since DH doesn’t have the backing of a powerful agency. However, in her XHS account, MGMM is the work that comes after Good Witch. So perhaps there is hope that it will air eventually.

Response to her XHS account has been overwhelmingly positive. These are fans who like her for who she is now and most of the users want to get beauty tips from her. Many more are touched by her hard work to learn Chinese.

  14. More updates from DH. She seems so relaxed these days! I wonder if she is happier when she is away from the limelight and all the pressure that comes with it. Good for her but not so great for her fans. Lol

btw, my daughter set me up on Netflix and now I’m watching Best Lover without dubbing! They all sound so much better in their native languages than those typical high pitched dubbed voices. The hilarious thing is when there is a dialogue, one speaks in Chinese and the other in Korean! And for some strange reason Zhoumi’s character has a completely different name in the Korean version. At least for DH’s character only her surname is different.

  15. @apqaria I am loving her updates too! Hopefully she won't get bored or burdened by it after a while. We seem to think celebrities' lives are so different from ours but I am really happy to see DH so grounded. Many of her fans on XHS are saying how much they enjoy her posts and that they have come to like her more because of it.

On how to translate posts on XHS....ummm...am afraid to say that I am still not proficient enough to navigate around it yet. There doesn't seem to be a repost option on the app or a search or login function on their website. It seems they will only let you see the posts on the app. The only way (may not be the best) I can think of is to download a Chinese character recognition app like Pleco or Scan & Translate and then scan the picture with her post in it. The alternative is to do it through WeChat which has a scan and translate function (you will see it if you click on the + sign on the home page).

@Annya don't know what this will lead to for DH but if she starts promoting Korean culture perhaps her countrymen will see her in a different light. The Hallyu ban is still there unofficially, although I believe it's less a THAAD issue but more a protectionism issue. In the long run, I see her being a shrewd businesswoman with investments here and there. Didn't she win some sort of savings award years ago? Notice that even though she loves designer bags and watches, none of her clothes are super expensive (they are mostly local brands). The luxury items that she buys have resale value and might actually appreciate in value if kept in good condition. Personally I would love to see her run an organic farm when she is older!

@ELY_397 and @apqaria The way some people speaks makes it feel like only her face keeps on changing there are so many actress whose faces have changed too.Yes i do agree for certain angle her face do look different but that doesn't mean she did PS.There is nothing else to criticize abt her so they target her face and makeup in drama nothing new.

I love this video! She looks so lovely and totally adorable. Her hobbies are so similar to mine actually. How cute are her little dance and mannerisms. Her way of talking is almost childlike at times.

Now I understand why people in the industry (co-stars and other celebs alike) have praised her positive energy, vivacity and optimism. In the face of fresh criticism she is still going about her life positively. Way to go DH!!

  17. @apqaria this is the reason she was never active in SNS before, except during Love Actually. Now that she has made the decision to promote herself more she gets backlash. I hope she is not discouraged by it.

at the same time, I do agree that she looks different in her selfies from pictures taken by other people. The pictures taken by reporters during Seoul FW show what she really looks like without filter. Her face looks wider, rounder and her nose smaller in those pictures. It’s all because of the selfie angle she uses to make her face “look” smaller and in doing so her features and facial proportions look different.  I hope she takes a few more selfies using more realistic angles to shut people up.

in fact, she has done less to her face than 5/6 years ago but in her attempt to do less she gets criticised. The statement from her agency is actually true but if people don’t believe it she will get more hate. Us fans are used to seeing these comments but it is still a big blow to her every time  it happens. I’m actually surprised her agency spoke up. It must be because she is fed up with it all.

  18. Her followers are growing quite fast actually (60k in two weeks). Most of them want to see her do make up tutorials, what clothes she wears, etc. Some are still comparing her face to MG days lol but most are complimenting her Chinese language skills.

I personally think the Hallyu wave in China has hit a saturation point especially with the new crop of young, trendy and talented home grown actors hitting big. Kpop will probably continue to be popular for a while but K dramas...not so sure.

RED is more of an e-commerce platform than a social one. I remember DH was one of the first K celebs to have a Weibo account and now she is also one of the first to have a RED account. I hope she finds success in this new venture of hers, be it endorsement or acting projects. Hopefully both!

  20. This is such a “shock” to me I don’t even how to react to her postings!! Ahaha!

@apqaria if you need help setting up an account I can help you translate the language. I just did mine yesterday. RED (XHS) is a hybrid concept between Pinterest and Instagram from the looks of it. Now it’s all down to DH how she wants to promote herself in this modern age, when her agencies can do so little for her.

  21. Our girl really loves Europe and Paris especially. It’s one of the few places she can roam freely without being noticed (except when there are groups of Chinese tourists haha). She must be so sad to hear about the fire at Notre Dame! :(

About her switching agency again... I heard she is following her manager to a new company owned by a Korean Chinese couple. So maybe she still has sights on the Chinese market. She has been a semi free agent for the past 8/9 years so not really surprised by that.

Also, there is an article today about a sighting of her and Se7en in Korea along with some surprising, interesting comments from knetz.

  22. @apqaria thanks for the update! Galleria is a wedding venue provider headquartered in South Korea specialising in island themed wedding venues and is becoming popular with the 90s generation. I am not entirely sure what the celebrities' roles are though (some have performed in the past in front of newly weds! ) What will Dahae do there...? :D Anyhow, it's exciting to see her make a public appearance after sooo long.

If I am not mistaken, she is meeting her C fans in Shanghai this weekend. They have mentioned her putting on weight recently and it is showing. Her face is glowing with health.

    here is article on Galleria:

@ELY_397 I didn't but was planning to watch it at some point. Sad to hear it is not that good, I was actually looking forward to seeing how they handled it.

The fifth episode is better thankfully. I got put off by the second female lead who is much more conniving and in your face than PSY. The leads match well and look cute together. Overall the acting lacks subtlety but it is still fun to watch. the female lead is quite adorable so I think it’s worth watching. Give it a go!

  24. @apqaria thanks for the update. Good to know that people are still interested in the Good Witch one year after airing despite the drama receiving no hype, promotion or awards.

I have just finished watching 4 episodes of the Thai remake of My Girl and am on the fence about it...can I just say that the original is still far better even though it is 14 years old already. The Thai lead actress is good but the rest of the cast is so meh. And by the time the second female lead appeared I was about to call it quits. Her acting is SO annoying. Has anyone watched it?

  25. I think DH may have in the past upset a few people in the reporters circle and the film industry due to her refusal to cooperate when asked about a certain Chinese celebrity and also her purported refusal to act with a certain veteran Chinese actor years ago (something she vehemently denied). They just won’t let it slide. The funny thing is that they took her least flattering pictures from the Good Witch and compared them with her MG pictures. Why only talk about it now? We all know her face has changed over the years (mostly due to drastic weight loss/ageing and some fillers) but not to the extent people talk about. Her facial proportions are different now because of her much slimmer face but her eyes and lips are not that different from before. People love exaggerating.  That said, every time her new drama airs, people would praise her acting with comments like “how can her acting be so good with her changed face....Her acting is still so good...you can judge her face but you can’t fault her acting...” lol

And that’s the reason she doesn’t post close up pictures of herself anymore. Chinese and Korean fans can be ruthless. Other fans are more forgiving IMO.

On a separate note, can I just say SBS is the worst public broadcast station (worse than MBC in my books)? I hope she never does a drama with them again.
