I am surprised there is hardly any discussion here. I really enjoyed the first two episodes. This drama really feels like watching a really good anime (but in live action!). A lot of the theme is very familiar but it is done really well in this drama. Anyone else enjoying this new show?

I saw it and I really really enjoyed it! I had no idea what it was about, just happened to see it on Netflix. Love all the characters and the world they’re in. Love our main hero. Hope that the storyline continues to be good and that it remains solid.

  2. I just watched it. Omgosh. It freaked me out. My heart is still pounding.

    Spoiler

So basically it seems like park shin hye character never escaped the serial killer at the end? Because we see the mom disappear and the killers eyes are open and she’s alive. Then we cut to a grown up park shin hye tied up in the secret room. So she’s been kept hostage since she was a little girl?

  3. I’m firmly on the NDS train! So from what his parents have said about him. DS has always been content with letting others “beat him” and go ahead. To the detriment of his own ability. He purposely lost out so he wouldn’t stand ahead out of others. He even gave away his gold medal because he’s a huge softie and didn’t want to see the other guy get berated by his parents. I think for the very first time we see DS actually get competitive and it’s over dalmi. Something about her has triggered a change in him and he’s now willing to step out of his comfort zone and become something for her. Not only that, he has become dalmis support person and believes in her, when others have been looking down on her. This is why DS is the male lead and will get the girl in the end!

  4. I feel like in typical drama route the main male lead would be JP. His story and background is fleshed out and korea loves the whole first love storyline, so what would be typical is that female lead will eventually find out that the one behind her letter and her true love really is JP. Thus, the two end up together.

but I actually like that drama isn’t going that route ( at least I hope it isn’t?-are we for sure that do San is the male lead?)

I think it makes for more interesting storytelling and shows that timing is key. Although dosan isn’t who she thinks he is, I believe she’ll fall in love with the current dosan. The letters are from her past and she’s clung on to these ideals for So long, but the person she will eventually start loving is the current and now dosan. Honestly I rather she just find out the truth sooner rather than later. But I feel like it’ll be hidden for awhile. Anyways. I’m glad she’s at least figured out half of the truth that he isn’t some hotshot ceo, this way she can discover who he really is. It’ll be fun to witness them build samsan tech.

also! The girl on the swing is injae!

Question...why did JY put the ring on the right hand  of SA and  his was on the left?

I think HH did the same when he put the ring  on JK.

    thank you ..

They mentioned it in another episodes that string players put their rings on the right hand because it gets in the way of playing their instrument.  So I guess he was acknowledging her past as a violinist?

I'm having a hard time figuring out why JH slipped away after the awards show and hung out with HH instead of celebrating with her boyfriend. Shy about meeting his family? Feeling insecure in the wake of his fame? It felt strange to me that she'd rather spend time with another man who, at least from my perspective if I were in her shoes, is pretty clearly interested in her.

In korean culture, you don’t really casually go and meet the parents. It’s very different from western culture. And in that situation he’s there with his whole family, she can’t just go up and introduce herself.

Can anyone tell how he introduced SA to his mother?

    ..

She asked if SA was his friend and that he never brought a friend to daejun before. He clarifies and says that she’s his girlfriend.

I thought it was super sweet that he corrected his mom to declare their relationship.

Also love that they’re slowly opening up to each other!

좋아해요.  - I like you. (formal language)

좋아한다구요. - I like you. (the ending emphasizes Joon Young's feelings as in "I like you!", it's more like a statement)

    좋아해. - I like you. (Banmal/informal language)

좋아해요. - I like you. (goes back to formal language)

Yes! I would add on to the second 좋아한다구요 to mean “I’m saying I like you. Or I’m liking you” he’s really emphasizin/stating that he likes her.   I loved the switches between formal/informal. When you say something informally it really makes it seem so intimate and close.

Sorry for getting back so late. :D

It's actually difficult to understand when you're not Korean (I'm not Korean myself). I think certain things are difficult to translate especially when it's about conveying a feeling through language. Every language has these little untranslatable words or sayings which only people who are born in the country and grow up with the language know how to feel and how to interpret. But I think the subtitles for the drama are not sincere and not able to relay what Joon Young is actually feeling.

The Korean viewers are very much in love with his confession because he really MEANS what he is saying. He IS deeply in love or VERY deeply likes Song Ah.

A very simple but maybe better translation would be:

    I like you.

    I DO like you.

    I like you a lot.

    I like you.

And even then the English language isn't really able to show how Joon Young feels about Song Ah. As Cha In Young said Joon Young always thinks of other people first, so to think of himself first in this moment and to say this shows he is has been overflowing with love for Song Ah. Which is shown how he switches back and forth between banmal (informal language) and jondaemal (formal language). That's at least my interpretation. Not sure if it makes sense though. :D

    @vangsweetie637

Yes, definitely. These have been always so polite with eachother... only speaking in formal language. So the moment they switch to banmal will be very special. So I actually was yelling a bit when he switched to banmal during his confession.

@Jilliayouve got a pretty firm grasp on the nuances about the different ways of saying I like you for being non korean! I’m korean American and I def would say that comes closest to nuances of what he said. Plain old “I like you” seems so shallow to the depths of how much he expresses he likes her. Im actually a little surprised his feelings have progressed this far. I knew he likes her and liked being around her, but I didn’t realize his feelings ran so deep.

To be honest, I am disappointed with the episode. The kiss was out of place, a bit exaggerated, and was gone as quick as it happened. Absolutely in no connection to anything else in the drama so far.

The entire episode was somehow "rushed" - the patients' love story, the realisation that he should leave A-Reum because he loves her, the drunk MKT, the "kiss" (if you call this a "kiss"), the secondary characters and their evaluation of love, and the ending. As a result, I didn't get any emotion from any of those. Again saying, if not the brilliant acting of KSH at the end, this would have been a pretty shallow episode.

And I feel so angry for this because I feel betrayed as a fan. The "kiss" was supposed to be in line with the whole drama. I am not angry that it was a peck - ok. But KMY's reaction after it was so out of her character, that angered me. Also, MKT saying he cannot run anymore, and then just slightly touches her lips with his and laughs awkwardly? Not ok at all.

I don't know, the entire episode could have been well divided in two and not so rushed, spending the deserved time to each emotion. :(

Actually, I believe this kiss was totally in line with both characters. Despite all of MY bravado, she’s very innocent. I truly believe that both MY and GT both don’t have any experience in relationships, so this is their first experience. I def think the time will come where they will give in to their desires, but I thought this first peck was very fitting for them.

Just seen the last episode, what can I say? a lot of crying, a little too much but also pretty good moments

MJ finally requests a divorce from GH, Yuri leaves but MJ and GH have apparently remarried, seen in the last scene but we haven't seen their faces , SW became a teenager for the last scene of the drama

just disappointed that Yuri is leaving,  this last episode put the accent on her departure again I am astonished that GH was able to come back to MJ  mean  he was ready to do everything to keep Yuri  ,  the last scene was not  explicit but it may have taken them years to get back together

I want to say about this drama but what has changed? but I'm going to be postive and say that family is important,  that's  the message

I don’t think they divorced. They just said they would talk about it once everything with YR was done.
MJ is a sweetheart. I don’t think she would have left GH after all that. She loves GH and SW too

much. I think GH was able to start freely loving MJ after YR left and no longer be filled with guilt and to love and live freely with YR blessings and knowing that’s what she wants for him.

Also, is there any reason why the story's flashback wanted to let us know that YR had a different name for her child? Did she not know it was going to be a girl?

In korean culture, couples give their unborn baby a Nickname. So that was seowoos, nickname.

ughhh I don’t know how they’re going to resolve all this. I feel like it’s a lose situation all around.

  12. I know this is being selfish, but I really want YR to live and go back to her place as GH wife and SW mom. I feel more convicted after seeing this episode. GH has not truly let go of YR and honestly the love he has for her is on a different level then the love he has for MJ. With MJ it feels more sibling like, and I feel like he caters to her out of politeness rather than love. I’m sure he loves her, but not like he loved YR. That last scene where he was clinging on her, broke my heart.

MJ has always loved GH more, and she always knew she didn’t have all his heart. I feel like if she truly loves him, she will be willing to let him go so he can find his happiness again. Knowing the person she is, I don’t think she could stand knowing that YR would die again because she couldn’t find her rightful place. Honestly, I really feel for MJ, she got the short end of a very crappy stick, but she hasn’t been happy in the marriage for a long time, to the point where she was considering divorce. She deserves a man who will truly love and embrace her whole heartedly, with no reservation. I know that GH will feel mad guilty if this is the end result too, where MJ leaves him so he can be with YR, so I don’t know how to resolve this. Either way, people will be hurt. But I’d rather MJ get hurt and move on with someone who truly loves her then YR dying.

  13. Oh man. This last episode was sooo good. I love that they gave us more background on MJ. Mj truly is a good mom and YR knows that. That’s why she loves MJ as well. I can see it in her eyes and that’s why she doesn’t want to take her “rightful” place. It really was sooo sweet that she made the banchan that MJ likes and made sure to take care of her. Its not fair to expect MJ to just disappear, she is the one who raised SW and loves her. I feel so torn, because I do want YR to stay alive, but I also don’t want MJ to be displaced because of that. I also love that MJ is drawn to YR and truly seems to like her. I stan their friendship! I don’t know how the show is going to resolve this....

  14. At this point I don’t see how SRY and YS can be end game. (I know they’re supposed to be) But it’s already half way through the drama and I don’t see how SRY can all of a sudden veer lanes and stop liking SA and start liking YS. I want to see him finally chasing after her and being there for her... but up until this point I haven’t really seen him show any signs that he cares for her beyond that as danban family.

Anyone that reads the WEBTOON, care to enlighten me how this happens?!

What if these changes in story board is just a trial for the writer, I mean not the finished, published product. He is making different iterations before publishing a new chapter. And yes, Kyung is still violent and abusive....they need to make him self aware.

I really wanna know what his shadow self is going to be like!!

So again I haven't seen the episode but did they really give those cheesy Namjoo lines to Ha Ru now?

No, they gave the line to BK. Originally at the end NJ was supposed to confess to YDJ in front of everyone, but instead BK confessed to everyone saying Dan Oh is the only one for him.

Was there a preview? If anyone can link it that would be great!

also, I feel like BK has to be aware or at least on his way there. He’s getting way too affected by Haru and Dan Oh. He’s changing his very behavior based on their actions in the shadow. He’s not supposed to “remember” but he sure acts like he does!

    p.s

I can translates some scenes if there were any requests. I don’t know where to find the video clips of it, so if you wanted to load them ill translate it!
