where did you read about DL abandoning the drama for a reality show? I feel like he really put in a lot of effort into this drama. I think the leads acted really well, maybe bc they're comfortable with each other.

I am going to talk about this bc it made me angry. The one to bring this topic up was actually the producer. No one had said anything about DL, fans were complaining about the script and too much screentime for supporting characters. Then the producer came our with a long post defending Dent Lun and people were like?? Where did you see that? It felt to me that to divert attention from the problem they were trying to create some controversy regarding DL. Like ohh is not us screwing the story it was his fault.

That is why I am glad some of the writers chat came out where it says that production hired a second team and changed the original script to give Night more screentime.

    Judging this production hard.

  2. I am honestly so disappointed

The drama started out so well and it followed the book pretty closely. Now they just keep making changes and the last 15 episodes haven been a waste. Could have been done in five tops. Now we will only have like 10 episodes if anything to conclude the story and it will be rushed. I am also mad that they did XF so wrong. Kept changing his stuff even gave some of his lines/actions to RY.

They better ended it like in the book so at least it won't be as bad. But I am not happy with this adaptation

    Friends,

Please let me ask your opinion. Between these brothers, Fire Immortal and Night Immortal, who has better qualification to rule the heaven after their father ( the father who does not have any qualification whatsoever as the current Heaven Emperor ) ?

Depends. If you go by the book then they are both good, I would even give an edge to XF. He did seem much more capable and prepared to take over after his father. He predicts Night's plans, he just doesn't think JM will take Night's side during the battle. That was what he miscalculated.

If you go by the drama then RY bc they make XF more concern about those he cares about than the smart decision. Like it is his concern for his brother, mother, and JM that eventually leads to his downfall. He also doesnt seem calculative enough or ready to sacrifice people if needed. You need to be somewhat cruel to rule over others and be ready to just backstab others to effectively stay in power.

Like most people today... I skipped the episodes too.

As a book fan, this is a tad too much

I can sense the obvious biasness the scriptwriter has for the 2nd male lead in the lastest 4 episodes. Like they had to explain his entire backstory , trauma, vengeance, train of thoughts, his wits etc while my leads get none of those.

 I should have known something is awfully wrong when they gave the scene of XF shielding JM from his mothers' attacks to RY.

It's okay, I'll use my imagination to fill in my poorly fleshed out leads. :w00t:

Edit: and I'm really disappointed that they're removing the 3 years of flirting (which later turn into backstabbing) between JM & FH after Water god's death. This is the highlight of the book for me. The reason why the stabbing/betrayal was so sad and the reason why FH barge in on the wedding. :heartbreak:

On top of that, they also removed the part where FH had the upper hand in apprehending RY during the wedding. I always liked the fact that the only reason why FH lost that night was because he lost to JM. Now they're making it seem like the power between FH & RY has always been equal. -_-

Where's my Fire god's suaveness in the book. :tears:

    Yeah I agree with everything.

One of the reasons fans are extra upset is bc the screenwriter bias. There is a chat going around with the screenwriter and someone says something about there should be a drama just about RY and the screenwriter was like good idea. So fans are fuming.

I always find it kind of ridiculous that screenwriters are given a source material and they just need to adapt it but they try to make it a different story.

  5. TV ratings went down yesterday and douban ratings also went down. Kind of expected since fans are super angry.

Production released a statement but fans are still unhappy.

Right now the problem is that the wedding still wont be today. Why are they taking so long? It is ridiculous. :expressionless: I just want XF to become Demon Lord already.

As for who will marry XF, I dont know. It does look like SH to me. Theories I saw was that he is doing the ceremony with SH and JM stops it or that he is doing the ceremony with SH and he imagines he is marrying JM.

I think I am biased due to having read the novel. I can never think that Night deserves Jin Mi but I really feel for Night in the drama. He was so wronged and misled by the very people who should have loved him and cherished him, so sad for him.

yeah they do make him seem more pitiful in the drama, someone was saying something along the lines of: "this is the story of Red Riding Hood where the poor wolf has been starving for days and he is just so hungry he has no choice but to eat the grandma and try to eat Red Riding Hood. We have to understand the poor wolf." Kind of sarcastic but it fits since you can tell a tale from different perspective and change how a character is seen.

    Has not hit 1.5% before.

Also can someone tell me how strong is JM on the show like how does she compare to XF

It did already. I posted about it long time ago with the official poster promoting the fact that they hit 1.5%

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ashes_of_Love_(TV_series)

You can see the day it happened under ratings.

XF is more powerful. One of the reasons JM keeps asking him for cultivation power.

  7. I wont even look at that preview bc :bawling:

Anyways a lot of controversy regarding screen time for the leads right now. Someone actually calculated their screen time in the past few episodes and it adds up to less than 10 minutes. Book fans are really mad at the screenwriter. Seems like they are mainly angry that there is too much screen time for RY.

edit: some are saying the drama should be name Run Yu Chuan , someone working at douban even added that to alternative titles :lol:

I feel like I have seen fans angry about this before in other adaptations and like I said a few days ago one of the major screenwriters really likes to give supporting characters a lot of screen time. I dont know why they always do this since they know fans are going to be mad.

In the latest episodes, they showed the backstory of how the demon princess and mask guy met. The mask guy's clan was basically murdered and she saved him. Apparently his tribe could create a weapon out of their bone marrow and cultivation energy that could destroy the soul completely. One of the demon lords found it as a threat and annihilated them. Throughout time, they fall in love and she finds out that mask guy is under the Empress' control to kill JM. :| I really wished the side story somehow helps to move the plot forward instead of a side story kind of feeling... I really like the demon princess but the side love story....

The recent episodes had some great parallelisms I just couldn't stop myself from analyzing. Been lurking on this thread since I finished LOF and this drama got me hooked! Keyword is "love" and "sacrifice"! How would you define love?

The latest episode hit me so hard when Water god and the Emperor had a talk. There were some parallelisms of how the Emperor claims how much he loves the Flower Goddess, but never sacrificed himself for her. The same can go for Night -- he never exactly showed his true self or sacrificed himself for JM like how XF does for her. I felt so bad for Night until he repaired the "unfeeling pill". As someone said in the comments, it's as if he just robbed JM's right to chose who to love.

Both the Emperor and Night does not know what "love" is, rather both were just "obsessed" with possessing what they cannot have even if they become the Emperor (irony that the Emperor should "own" everything). The Emperor mentions that the greatest punishment is that even if he has the flower goddess physically, he could not have her heart. That was basically Night's only punishment in the novel, which I saw comments saying how he got off scot-free --- basically same for the Emperor.

The scene where the Emperor visited the Empress in prison made me feel so mad. I feel like he's the biggest AH*insert profanity* here. He caused a lot of problems, but doesn't seem to feel that he was wrong at all. Even when speaking with the Empress he mentioned how "well" he treated her. Empress got cheated on by her husband many times and was "used" for the Emperor the secure his throne. Though I understand this doesn't justify her doing evil things. I also feel the parallelism of the Empress and Princess SH where they love someone whole heartedly and would sacrifice themselves --knowing the person they love do not love them back.

Since the drama went extensive with Night's backstory I really hope they can give him a few episodes of redemption. Otherwise T_T

Everyone is so well-casted and kudos to the cast! I really like how Princess SH isn't the typical 2nd lead girl who does bad things to the 1st female lead. The scene where SH realizes that everyone has a father or someone who loves them unconditionally-- yet, for someone who doesn't love her (XF), she killed her mortal father during the moral trial who loved her unconditionally. I really wish SH could have a happy ending.

yeah, I feel pretty much the same way. I think the drama is purposely drawing up a lot of similarities between them. I don't remember seeing them in the book. I also think just like his father, RY never sees himself as doing something wrong until JM sacrifices herself. That was his wake up.

Hello everyone. I've been lurking on this thread for awhile and decided to give my short 2 cents on this drama. lol

He is loved all around but even then the love he received isn't sincere love. Everyone is taking advantage of him.

Welcome to the thread! Historical cdramas with happy endings are very few :tears: I think this one is one of the best xianxias I have seen.

I do think that he does get taken advantage of and the main reason like someone else said is his stupid bird brain . He is too much of a softie.

  9. Night is kind of not redeemable to me. At least if the drama keeps going by the book. I mean the only actually selfless nice thing he does is give XF the paintings JM made of him. I think he found some sort of inner peace by the epilogue. I have been seeing a lot of comments on how Night has the right personality to be an Emperor like scheming, backstabbing, etc. So that he was destined to be Emperor while XF was more of the give up everything for love type of guy. In the end, Night ends up being a lot like the current Emperor in what he did in order to reach the throne.

I wouldn't mind a side story with Night and how he redeems himself in some sort of way. While I do think his actions towards XF and JM are 100% wrong. I also think he realized a bit that he was wrong after JM jumped in front of XF and that is why he let them be at the end. So it would be interesting for them to show him doing something to redeem himself. But if I were XF or JM, I would still never want to see him again.

I dont know if I can take the next few episodes so will probably stop watching until ep. 47 or so when he will be back

I am really hating Night these past episodes. In fact everyone related to XF is pretty despicable. He is the best out of the bunch and he is the one that ends up being a demon lord, says a lot.

  11. it seems that RY knows about it bc he read about it on a book and he took a guess that she one and that is when he took it out and decided to repair it.

XF doesnt know about it and shouldnt know about it until the very end </3

Someone asked about the Jimin inside the frost flower and I think that is her real self. As in fully aware of all her emotions and feelings. I feel extra bad for the Jimin inside the frost flower bc she cant do anything but sit back and watch. I think that will be the reason for her to spill the pill bc she has that part of her inside that is somewhat aware.

    I agree 100%

YangZi gets a lot of hateful comments bc she always gets casted in otherworldly beautiful roles when she is not considered that pretty and even gets a lot of plastic sx hate. But she has the range to play JM, I can think of few other up and coming actresses that could have pulled it off. Maybe Li Qin but she is not as popular. I also think she looks very pretty as JM. She also looked pretty in Chusen.

I was also happy with Deng Lun being casted as XF. And now I am extra happy bc I am liking how everything is coming together. I think Night was also casted really well. Whoever casted everyone, great job!

I am watching the clips off the official channel for today's episode and

RY did it :bawling: poor JM and XF

He saw them mutually cultivating from a dream and then JM refused his kiss so :bawling:

It is so horrible what he does to her. Why couldnt he let them be happy? If XF hadnt come back alive she would have been driven mad.

She looses all memory of what happened in the human realm and about her feelings for XF. Prepare your tissues.

Also, before her memory/feeling wipe JM gives XF a piece of her real self. On the trailer we see that after he is revived he gives it back to her.

So Night knows about the heartless pill.  I don't like Night's schemes and his peeping tom into XF and JM's love affair.  I watched till episodes 17 and my heart can't take all of these schemes so I might stop here and catch up later after they break up.  Looking forward to their true feelings and reunion.

I also worry about uproar between fans of both Phoenix and Night.  I saw some post that people are boycotting the drama because it's not showing enough of the leads.  The demon princess and that guys with half silver mask have more scenes.

I think most dramas that I have seen live have "fanwars" due to too much time for supporting characters at one point or another. Ratings went down a little during the human realm due too much time for supporting characters, now that they are back in heaven they are going up again. It should be more about them from now on. I think they mainly do it to have more episodes.

  15. I haven't seen the last three or so episodes so I can't recap sorry. I have just been looking at spoilers on weibo.

So it seems that in the drama after mutual cultivation RY restores the unfeeling pill inside of Jimin and that is why she changes :bawling:

This makes his actions so much worse than in the book. He pretty much robs her of her happiness and tricks her into killing the man she loves/his brother.

Today's episodes will be the happiest for a long time, prepare your heart and tissues.

  16. It says 3&4 today but I think they go by dates in China so the first two came out late 8/20 and the next 2 should come out late 8/21 CST (China Standard Time)

So their episodes could to be like 33 episodes behind the mainland version. At least it is not one of those that we only get them after all the episodes air in China and at least Viki licensed it.

  17. I was looking at the screenwriters for this drama and one the best known one worked on The Mystic Nine and that one had a lot of heavy screen time for supporting characters to the point where it was ridiculous lol so probably the inspiration for all the extra supporting characters TV time in this drama.
