@angelangie, there could be something lost in translation, but this is the conversation between Dr. Kim and Seo Woo and the research done by one of the residence:

Ep 4/12:16  The Intern is Googling Hye Jung on the internet.  It states:

"[FOCUS] Dae Jeon Hospital Neurosurgeon Yoo Hye Jeong"

Intern to himself:  "She was famous in her region.  That's why the Chief recruited her.

Internet article: "Beautiful Doctor is Dae Jeon Hospital's first to introduce Coiling."

Intern to himself:  "Coiling Surgery?" "Brain aneurysm clipping craniotomy.  Wow!  If that's the case she will probably cross paths a lot with Dr. Jeong Yoon Do. But why did she come as a resident fellow?"

    Ep 4/ 47:40

SW:  "She was already working as a chief at a regional provincial hospital.  Unless she had other motives, she wouldn't have made this decision."

Dr. Kim:  "I'm curious about that too. Why would she have followed me here. Although it was a countryside hospital, it's difficult to become a chief at her age. She was making a lot of money too."

Again, I really love this drama, but this part is just very hard for me to believe.  Hye Jung should still be in her residency. Not only that, if she was such an outstanding student, making a name for herself, then I would think that Seo Woo would have heard of her since there were not that many women in the Neurology program-- per Seo.  So this makes me think that she was a regular student that probably made good grades, but not someone so outstanding that the school was talking about her.

I would like to provide my POV and my limited knowledge and understanding in response to the above.

From what I gather, you are comparing the educational curriculum and standards in USA with South Korea, which I believe are entirely different. Countries do not have the same educational curriculum and medical standards.  In SK (from my research and understanding), to be a neurosurgeon, you have to undergo 6 years of education to obtain a bachelor of medicine, 4 years residency after 1 year internship. After residency, you become a staff neurologist. Fellowship and its training period are optional after achieving board certification by the Korea Neurosurgical Society.  As a staff neurosurgeon, you can undertake neurosurgical procedures. Fellowship to my understanding is when you undergo specialist training for more complex procedures. Fellowship in Australia takes 2 to 5 years. I am not sure about this in SK.

In some countries, some residents (depending on the level/year) can still undertake minor surgeries on their own and also major surgeries under the supervision of staff specialists. I have not seen any resident undertaking minor surgeries in the drama. The 4 year residency for neurosurgery also applies in Seoul National University. Given these facts and if you count the number of years, 1 year to complete middle school, 6 years for bachelor in medicine, 1 year internship, 4 years residency will be equivalent to 12 years. The story talks about 13 years, so it may still be realistic. Fellowship and its training period are optional after achieving board certification by the Korea Neurosurgical Society.

Usually, district hospitals (non tertiary hospitals) do not undertake complex procedures. Those cases are usually booked and undertaken at tertiary hospitals with more cutting edge medical procedures and medical equipment. I am talking of course about the medical system here in Sydney but the Korean medical system may still be similar.

Endovascular coiling procedure is a minimally invasive procedure to treat brain aneurysms. This is a less complex procedure which can easily be undertaken by a staff neurosurgeon. Craniotomy is a removal of a brain tumour or lesion through an opening in the skull (cranium).

I worked as the Director of Audit in tertiary and district hospitals in Sydney Australia and my husband was a specialist pediatrician and a general medical practitioner. I have had some exposures on various medical procedures here in Australia (from cardiology, neurosurgery, radiotherapy, radiation oncology, internal medicine, etc.) I am not a doctor by profession but as a senior officer in audit, one of the essential criteria / requirements of the position is to have a good understanding of the various medical policies and procedures. I do not have the technical knowledge and capabilities that these specialists do and I do not pretend to have one. We do interact a lot though with these specialists, residents, and medical and nursing professionals during audit to have a good understanding of the system and procedures.

I hope all the writtens will at least finish their stories and will continue writting no matter what characters they use.It is sad to see everyone saying goodbye. I hope one day we can reunite at least to share our stories as fans of both Min Ho and Shin Hye.Regarding, the news now that it has really settle in I am happy for Bbay.. I hope he is brave and makes his relationship work. I hope to see both of them in future projects and wish them to truly enjoy life and will not hold back because of public opinion in doing the things they love. I guess this makes sense now to see Suzy in GB and to see BG sad/gloomy post a month ago, I hope Suzy makes BBoy happy.

I never thought about it but I guess you are right.  BGirl's post last month was about sadness, about her heart breaking.  LMH might have confirmed his relationship back then. I really felt sad. I really really really hope for her to have her own love and happiness because she deserves it.  Although my heart is broken, I hope LMH's relationship will work this time. Still GOOBYE for me in this thread.

  3. Goodbye to all of you here.  You have all shared happiness and fun to everyone.  Wish LMH will be happy and congratulations to him and Suzy.  Wish PSH finds her own true love and be happy too.  Although my heart is devastated, I wish  both of them a happy and healthy life.  Goodbye MinShinners.  This may will be my last post here although I might still lurk here occasionally.  Thank you to all of you.

  4. Tiggie2 said: This was written by me some time back. You all don't have to agree with me but this is my perspective as a fan of Park Shin Hye. PSH was born to be a hallyu star. This little girl was born on 18th feb 1990 in Gwangju, South Korea. At a tender age of 11 she was selected by Lee Seung Hwan to join his music company Dream factory. She started acting, singing, music and dancing classes. Two years later, she participated in Lee Seung Hwan's music video 'flower' and in the same year, she acted in her first role, the childhood version of Han Jung-suh in Stairway to Heaven. The role propelled her into a successful child actress. She won her first child actress award from SBS at the year end awards. According to reports her manager at the time realised this little girl's future potential and she should not be locked away in a girl group. He released her free of contract to chase after her own dream. The success of a child actress was a burden for her acting in her teenage years. Tree of Heaven was her first lead role at just 17 years old. Although it was not a hit, it allowed many people to acknowledge the future potential of this actress. The projects which PSH picked afterwards such as Kimchee radish cubes and Goong S were all acting roles that were not well received. Her fortune changed at 19 years old when she took the role of Gominam/Gominyu. This role allowed her to regain her confidence in acting. She found the joys of acting and brought out a memorable character to the delight of many viewers. After the series finished, She worked further with her co-star JKS in commercials and concerts. Some fans of JKS were uber jealous of her. Negative comments about PSH from how she looks to the way she acts surfaced. PSH is a friendly girl and JKS became a good friend but for some of his fans the closer they became the more hatred was thrown at her. Fortunately, PSH is a girl with a positive attitude and support from family/friends/fans around her enabled her to move on. It did not deter her away from the industry. There is a saying, what doesn't break you can only make you stronger. Who would have guessed at that time the situation with a few JKS fans was to be repeated with her future costar? In the next few years, PSH slowly built up her acting portfolio including travelling to Taiwan to participate in Hayate the combat Butler, Heartstrings and flower boys next door. In films she participated in Cyrano dating agency and Miracle cell room 7. At 24 years old, she took the role of Cha Eun Sun. This was a contentious role. It felt like half the women in the universe was against this girl. The more popular Heirs was, the more negative comments of PSH came flying in. Just like the situation back in 2009/2010, negative criticisms came from the way she looked to her acting. As a fan, it was painful to read because I know the so called critics were never really proper critics but a person hiding behind a fake name on the internet because of their bias. PSH has to be given all the credit for not waning in the harshest of critics. Maybe, because of her previous experience she knew how to weather the storm of jealousy or it could be her personality is strong enough to ignore those nasty comments. No one in this world deserves to have so much hatred thrown at them, especially for a young hardworking actress who has done nothing wrong but maybe act with the hottest guy in town at that time. People in China are fascinated by the fact she gets to work with good looking actors all the time. However, these people seem to forget that these same hot actors acted with other actresses before or after they acted with her but they never got the same explosive reception as with PSH. Therefore, I can only conclude it is because of the popularity of PSH and the awesome chemistry she has with their bias that such 'hits' were made. In 2014, PSH overcame the fiercest critics to shine even brighter in her next role - Choi In Ha. She lifted her acting a step higher and her portrayal was so realistic. This was helped by a well defined lovable character drawn up by the writer and the solidly produced drama Pinocchio. As a fan of PSH, I will always wish her the best. Whether it is a future role or her potential boyfriend/husband. Life brings many trials and tribulations, no one can be certain of their destiny but this little girl whom I watched back in 2003 has become one of the brightest stars of her generation. :)

thanks to @pattituazon for the beautiful words in the intro.

Thanks very much to you @mi7 chimes and @pattituazon for your efforts to enter minshin in the vday contest. If I remember right, MinShin was 2nd at the last vday contest where you were one of those who actively participated. In our eyes, heart and mind, MinShin and MinShinners are the winners. MinShin jik jin. MinShin fighting.

  6. Points of View - PART 2

POV 3:PSH short clip at the Hologram show:  From my reading of twitter accounts of their fans, the filming happened during the shooting of Pinocchio around the 17th Episode as can be seen from her trench coat (similar to LMH coat at the last episode of Heirs).  This means that filming happened before the GB VIP Premiere.  From readings of fan accounts and testimonies of fans PSH (have not met her..really want to meet her in person) is extremely nice, generous, and very supportive to her friends.  I also read that her buddy (YH) may have gone and personally invited here to come to his show's first episode filming.  Many of you, if not all of you, have seen how supportive she is to her friends, example of which was when she was seen in the company of Seo Taiji visiting his wife who had given birth. PSH could have shunned away from that given netizens posts who may have damaged ST's reputation. She is a courageous woman loyal to friends. Similarly, she came to support an old friend (YH).  She was not worried about haters or antis.  I already read some criticisms of her for being so attached to previous co-stars.  Entertainment industry is a cruel and lonely world to be in, with very few friendships developed due to their hectic schedules. I believe it unfair on PSH to be at the receiving end of criticisms or hate for being friendly. It is in her nature to help.  Again this is my opinion not being imposed on you.

I saw her short clip on the show but I saw "nothing" to be worried about.  I seem to think that they were closer before but that closeness they used to have was long gone.  As a matter of fact, from my observations when I saw the clip, he kept his distance, as if that's what he was supposed to do given that PSH is already off-limits (delulu on).  Min Hyuk appeared to be closer to her hugging and calling him "my child".  Apologies to their shippers who may be lurking here.

POV 4.  SBS 2014 Awards.  I believe that PSH and her leading man are friends (they were in a CF before) who developed a closer friendship while filming.  But the way I saw their interactions, that friendship stops from there, no more no less.  They are actors and one of the better ones in the business who can project good chemistry and intimacy where needed.  The script called for it, and they delivered.  I don't see anything special.  So sorry if one of their ship's crew happens to be lurking in this ship  I meant no harm.  As a matter of fact, I love Pinocchio.  PSH is a beautiful lady inside and out.  I am sure some may have shown some interest in her (YYS, KSH for example) but in my view, her heart flutters only for her Kim Tan (delulu mode on).

I am sorry for the long post.  I have to write them here to share.  Cheers!!!

    Back to lurking.

  7. I de-lurked to share my POV of recent events.  I might be writing them in 2 parts as it is long.  I am an ajhumma who is with you all the way.  Min Shin thread is my one way of managing stress from a busy corporate life.  Each and every MinShinner is fun and I have enjoyed and still am enjoying all your posts, including those who unabashedly blurt out their nervousness, jealousies, perverted ideas, expert analyses, videos, photos, gifs, etc.  I applaud you for being the superb and fabulous fans that you are.  Your behaviour reflects on your character as a person and also reflects on the characters of your biases i.e. MinShin, who are considered one of the bests in the Korean entertainment world.  I care for all of you like my own children, sisters, or friends.

Points of View - PART 1

POV 1.  GB 1970 Premiere.  Though it's late, I would like to spazz with you here.  PSH came to support Kim Tan, who is always know to be LMH.  LMH is Kim Tan and Kin Tan is LMH.  She came as PSH (not In ha).  She shed the In Ha look and came with a new hairstyle for her man.  Small token of gesture but means a lot, I supposed.  She was a little bit nervous and shy maybe because most of those present were Minoz....some but not all of them may not support her for LMH.  I was glad that she was well received by fans.  She was very brave with a never care attitude as to whether she gets criticized or hated (strong work but this happens most of the time from crazy fans).  She came in a decent attire, not snazzy but very much muted and comfortable so not to upstage the casts ...after all she came as a guest.  Yet she was chic (to me personally) and refreshingly beautiful.  I read so many criticisms to her attire (unfortunate and sad).  It appeared too as if she was the most awaited guest of the evening.  She came to support her man.  I am not surprised that both LMH and PSH attire were in sync (they're a couple...delulu on), black and white and both blue and red colours (their favourite colours) were represented , PSH with the blue bag and LMH with a red colour on her shoes).  They may not have been seen together that night but I believe that there was the feeling from them of each other's presence and nearness.  It's the feeling that "As long as I know you're here, I feel you, I am with you, you are with me, we are together in this important day".  I believe that deep inside both of them, they are happy to be seen in one place publicly (testing the waters as some of you said).

LMH Interview.  "Impossible for a man and woman to be friends."  My take on this is that he is trolling the fans.  I don't think he was being serious about this.  Otherwise, he could be seen as either being jealous and/or protective. He said that he would lock his woman at home (this attracted a strong reaction from uri PSH).  If he believes in this, this does not apply to PSH only, who is known to have quite a few "boy" friends.  LMH also has "girl" friends.  PBY who came to the VIP premier was LMH's guest.  LMH also went to PBY VIP Premier from memory.  KHS (Faith leading lady although married) came as LMH guest.  I assume they could only come as friends given they are not relations.  These are examples of boy/girl friendship, which are healthy relationships in a lonely world of entertainment.  He calls PSH his friend (check the Netizenbuzz comments). I am pretty sure PSH is not a "girl" friend.  She is the girlfriend (delulu mode on).  I am not sure but I think he is trolling in my opinion. He might be thinking of other situations which may not have been expressed appropriately during the interview.

If Min and Shin are in a relationship, which all of us here believe, it will be tough on them.  It will take a lot of deep and profound love, understanding, patience, trust, maturity, acceptance, comfort, tons of laughter, commitment, and nurturing for that love to be calm and at the same time grown given their lack of time.  Hopefully, the little time that they have is quality time (plenty of flower arrangements....).  Falling in love is easy, but staying in love is a dedication. They need a lot of maturity, encouragement, prayers, and support for each other to move mountains (double entendre) so that all of their lasts will be to each other.

MinShin Jik Jin!  MinShinners Jik Jin!

  8. stewiefg said: @NileRose Thank you for your warm welcome! I completely understand your feelings when you readthose hurtful comments. There will always be people like that around, who enjoy trolling just for the sake of it. I have seen that prior to the start of Pinocchio, people were already jumping on the bandwagon to pre-judge Shine Hye's portrayal of IH on various websites/forums, but over time, I have started to see more comments from people who said they were not fans of hers before and they have now been won over by her in this drama. It is heartening to see there are non-fans who can be objective and rational and even defended her against unfair and undeserved bashing from these people who probably have not watched the show (or if they did, they probably had very densecataracts or developed temporary blindness whenever she is on the screen...haha).
You are right that korean dramas mostly focus on the male leads and the female leads are usually written as supportive characters to the male leads. You are also correct that Pinocchio so far has focussed on the angst of the two brothers and their fight with IH's mother, but I am hopeful after watching Ep6 today that the focus will move to IH and her growth. PSH really did a good job today, bringing out the strength of IH. Her impassioned speech to Dal Po in the cafe has demonstrated thatIH was stronger than he had assumed, and her will and determination to be an impartial reporter despite the involvement of her mother in the case. As this writer has written strong female characters for IHYV, I am hopeful and optimistic that she would do the same again! Let's keep our fingers X that the writer will deliver and that PSH's career will continue to grow form strength to strength!! :)

  9. Good morning/night to all Minshinners in your parts of the world. I am loving all your posts, investgative, creative and factual. Re PSH's instagram, 7 is the number of letters in SHIN HYE's name. In LMH design of jewellery he used 7 which he said is a lucky number. He also wrote in his twitter "Lucky 7 Thanks a million." Heokshi, could it be that LMH was referring to his lucky 7, SHIN HYE?

  10. TODAY is D DAY!!!  PINOCCHIO night (10pm KST on SBS) with Shin Hye and Jong Suk. Please, let us all show our love and support for Shin Hye by watching the drama. Kindly encourage friends to give their support as well. Praying so hard for its success. Shin Hye fighting :x :x :x
    ...calm down my nervous heart....

    @jenniferG thanks for the welcome.

  11. I am very proud of Shin Hye as one of the endorsers of Visa. She is the first Korean chosen to represent Visa lining up with big celebrity endorsers. This is huge. Her exposure through the Visa ads in other Asian countries would bring her more popularity and let her soar to even greater heights. I pray that her kdrama "Pinocchio" and her movie "The Royal Tailor" would be both a resounding success and would win her acting awards. I also hope and pray that she will receive more blessings as she is well and truly a beautiful person inside and out. Love you Shin-ya. :x :x :x

  12. This is my first to comment in this thread.
Park Shin Hye is my ultimate bias. Just like @branwen and all of you, I am so looking forward and excited for Pinocchio. I am hoping that the story line will not deviate in favour of the male lead as the story progresses. Knowing the writer and the PD (I Hear Your Voice), I have faith that they will make Shin Hye shine even more, just like they did with Lee Bo Young.  Similarly, I have faith in Shin Hye that she will not disappoint and will give justice to her Pinocchio role (including any romance / love scenes, which is expected in any KDrama).
Being the heroine playing the titular "Pinocchio", there will be too much expectation from her in this drama. As the titular lead, it would appear that the story will be centered on her (keeping all my fingers and toes crossed). I am hoping that this will become the turning point to Shin Hye's career in an adult role (not counting, off course, The Tailor movie, which is yet to be shown). She was feisty in Goong S, and I know that she can do justice to her role as a feisty, honest, truthful, and no-nonsense reporter. I hope and pray that after this character transformation, she will be taken more seriously and be offered more character-rich roles, roles that she had been looking for, and hopefully silence and surprise the overly critical, know-it-all, and cynical media and antis.
I would like to thank @nevrmind and @mosquito for all your translations, giving us insights into the Pinocchio drama.
Let's all mark 12 November in our calendars and support her. Shin Hye fighting!

  13. this will be my 3rd post in soompi although i lurk everyday.  i de-lurked again to express my heartfelt appreciation to all of you who, in one way or another, have immensely contributed to make this thread so enjoyable and so addictive.  all your posts are something to look forward to everyday, every hour, every minute and every second. i am loving all your insights, gifs, photos, videos, humorous posts, delusions (maybe not?), and perverted ideas (definitely hehe). I love your throwback Thursdays and perverted Fridays.  These, and of course all the fanfics from the talented and brilliant writers and all minshin fan movie videos in youtube are making up for the apparent lack of direct interaction between minshin.  i also appreciate your untiring and unwavering support for min ho and shin hye.  you are all AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME.!!!!!!!!!!
special thanks goes to  @mosquito for her fan account during shin hye's fan meeting in taiwan.  i felt your love and care with the squeeze to shin hye's hand.  i love the way you support minshin, including all your (and @nevermind's) unbiased and wonderful translations of minshin's interviews.  also thanks to @meridian for her enthusiastic and down-to-earth fan account of min ho's visit to thailand.  it is heartwarming to see that all minshinners, starlight angels, and minoz were all very supportive of and did amazing jobs for min and shin in taiwan and in thailand. i am pretty sure min ho's smiles, charisma, and hotness and shin hye's bubbly personality and beauty inside and out, made up for those sacrifices.  it is not easy and takes a lot of sacrifice to queue and wait till forever for the arrival of the royal couple.  i am eagerly awaiting all fan accounts of shin hye's visit to thailand.  i can see that both min and shin are well loved in thailand.
i am sure that thailand holds a special place in minshin's hearts given that this is the place of their first trip together for etude cf shoots.  thailand is where their "relationship" started and became closer and "hotter" (figuratively and literally) in los angeles. hopefully thailand will be one of the few places where minshin will have their honeymoon (delulu on) when that awaited time comes.  @ladadaista, your photos, gifs, analysis of the couple are always beautiful and insightful. all the posts here are either insightful, awesome, humorous, and perverted (in a good way).  i can see that everyone is having fun and i am loving some friendships formed in the process through this forum.
@ naughtyminshin and @giselle_tw, @mosquito, and @lameosor, your gifts to minshin are cute and beautiful and evidently show that so much thoughts and efforts were put into creating them.  they are well and truly a labour of your love.
to all the regulars (although i miss a few names who used to post here, just as well @mi7chimes resurfaced) and the new minshinners, you all know who you are (i could not name each one of you) please continue sailing the ship coz i believe in my heart and mind that minshin is real.  their aura of happiness and love and the hints they have been giving are all indications that they are 300% real (delulu on).  let's pray that minshin will stay happy, healthy and in love in 10 years, 20 years, 30 years and forever.
there was never a day missed lurking here and reading all your posts.  it is one way of de-stressing in a chaotic and busy world.  to minshin and to all minshinners jik jin and thank you from the bottom of my heart.  SO SORRY FOR THE LONG POST.
