  1. At long last! After 8 years! Kim Eun Hee has been talking about this for so many years, but this time, it looks like we will finally see it! Please bring back our original intrepid trio too! I would love to see how S2 unfolds, especially since the J-adaptation already diverged from canon with the 2021 movie. So thrilled and can't wait! :hwaiting::hooray2:

When a thread is not active for a long time (a year I think) it will be archived. But there are old threads that are missing because they were deleted when some autors of the threads closed/deleted their account before a moderator took over the thread.

Thank you for the clarification. Am really sad because so many threads I was a part of are no longer there, and with it the awesome posts that were shared, and the wonderful memories :bawling:

  3. @Lydia Aki @burgl While there is no official announcement yet, both Liu Wen and Jing Boran have been spotted holding hands in public, sometimes double dating with Li Ronghao and Rainie Yang, and it would seem that Li Ronghao is their wingman. I am happy for her as long as she has found happiness, as opposed to her tears in the travel variety show 奇遇人生2 back in 2020, when talking about not having a boyfriend.

Is it just me or has Siwon's instagram account been closed? I can no longer see it. Even if Siwon and her are not together, I hope that they are still friends who genuinely care for each other. All I want is for them to find happiness, be it together or apart.

  4. My daughter was humming the strands to 辉 the other day, which surprised me because I don't remember her ever watching 鹤唳华亭. She then showed me the scene in Ep32 of 苍兰诀 Love Between Fairy and Devil where Changheng and Dongfang Qingcang's men worked to wake him up from the dream dimension. It was then that I realised that 阿鲲 Roc Chen was the composer for both dramas. Not sure how music copyright works - does it ultimately belong with the composer, who has the freedom to use it in whichever medium that he chooses? Either way, hearing it just brings the memories and heartache crashing back all over again...

  5. The poster for the C-remake 谢谢你听见我 Loving Strangers (literal translation: Thank You for Hearing Me) was released on 6 May. Looks like the female lead is now recast to 22yo actress 张子枫 Zhang Zifeng (Wendy Zhang). I have only watched her in variety shows, but she is an acclaimed young actress - youngest Hundred Flowers Award winner (Best Newcomer, 2012), youngest Huading Award winner (Best Supporting Actress, 2017), 16th Changchun Film Festival (Best Actress, 2019).

The official release of the poster is accompanied by these words on Weibo:

    落魄的平民绅士闯进少女黑暗的世界,
    从此微光循循渐进,抚慰缓缓入心。
    姜家齐@趙又廷 梁知安@张子枫
    年龄悬殊、但灵魂贴近。
    两座孤岛的相逢,
    比爱隽永,比时光动人。

The downtrodden common gentleman broke into the girl's dark world,
Henceforth, a glimmer of light gradually shone through; comfort slowly creeping into the heart.
Jiang Jiaqi (Zhao Youting) Liang Zhi'an (Zhang Zifeng)
The age gap is wide, but their souls are close [to each other]
The meeting of two isolated islands,
More meaningful than love, more moving than time.

Are Chinese dramas usually aired midway through filming? Any idea which online streaming site might carry this for the US audience? My interest is piqued enough that I will definitely check this out.

@sadiesmith Chinese dramas are always aired post-production following a vetting process by the National Radio and Television Administration (NRTA). Some dramas may be shelved particularly if there are issues with either the script or scandals surrounding the cast etc. Others go through subsequent rounds of editing to meet the requirements in terms of narrative themes, length etc. and may perhaps be broadcast a year or more after filming. It varies.

No idea yet where it will air internationally... hopefully more information will be available closer to the broadcast date.

  7. @the_sweetroad 保密项目 means "confidential project" so it would appear that this is just a temporary placeholder, and not what the actual poster will look like. According to the uncropped poster, the urban emotional drama will be aired on Youku, filming begins in April in Qingdao and is expected to take 110 days.

What does interest me are the character details of the Chinese production, which seem to indicate that the base narrative might be veering away from the original into the entertainment industry, assuming the CEO and celebrity are meant to be PDH and LJA respectively. Not very sure how the entire premise would work if Ji-A is now a celebrity and Dong-hoon is a CEO. Will the overall bleakness and desperation that permeates the soul and is such a tangible part of the original still be there? I don't know, but I hope they will find a way to honour the source material.

    1. Male, company CEO, age 30+, height ~180cm

    2. Female, celebrity, age 25+, height ~165cm

    3. Male, middle-aged uncle, aged 50+,  height ~180cm

    4. Male, young director, aged 28+,  height ~180cm

    5. Male, good-looking ruffian, aged 25+, height ~180cm

    6. Female, housewife, aged 35+, height ~165cm

  8. @the_sweetroad I definitely hope that the remake will be good too, having seen good and poor adaptations in the past of beloved works.  No idea whether it will also be called 我的大叔 or if it will have a totally different title, similar to other remakes e.g. Ordinary Glory (Misaeng), Unknown Number (Signal) etc. Will share if I do see any further news about it.

Meanwhile, looks like a rewatch of My Ahjussi is in order during the wait B)

  9. Excited to hear that there will be a C-remake for My Ahjussi, though with adaptations, there is inevitable trepidation that it will not meet the standard that the original set. Still, am relieved that 赵又廷 Mark Chao is headlining it, as he did an excellent job playing Mgr Oh's equivalent in the Misaeng C-remake Ordinary Glory 平凡的荣耀. Am not as certain about 刘浩存 Liu Haocun, whose work I've never watched. She looks very young and sweet, so am not sure whether she will be able to deliver the bleakness that Ji-an carried with her. Still, she appears to be a favourite of Zhang Yimou and has been in several of his movies, the latest being 2021 movie Cliff Walkers, so will be checking that out to see how she fares.

Either way, they start filming in April in Qingdao, so the drama itself will probably only see the light of day next year.  There are protests among the C-viewers about the remake which they believe will never surpass the original. Nonetheless, Ordinary Glory was an example of an excellent remake - keeping the spirit of the original while adapting it in line with its domestic culture and backdrop, which gives me hope that My Ahjussi will be just as well done. We will see.

  10. @MayanEcho So far I haven't seen anything particularly controversial in the drama, though it is early days :sweatingbullets: Am glad to know I'm not the only one who watches dramas for their music...  the right soundtrack definitely adds so much more to a movie or drama

@agenth You are giving me even more reasons to check out Under the Queen's Umbrella! Perhaps when real life is not as hectic. By the same token, my progress with Unexpected Falling is slow due to the pesky real life demands :sweatingbullets: It is a slow burn... but I like that the female lead, while prickly, is not stupid, and she is slowly figuring out red flags based on the trickling of information she is gathering about her late husband. The male lead on the other hand, is a massive red flag right now, but his motivations keep me guessing and I'm definitely invested to find out more.

  11. Barely watched anything in 2022, so can't really vote. Just started 不期而至 Unexpected Falling which aired Nov 2022, so I guess that doesn't count since I've not finished watching it at all, having only covered 2 episodes. Enjoying it so far... would you believe I was drawn into watching it because of the opening instrumental theme, which is arguably one of the memorable I've heard. Unfortunately I can't seem to find it posted on Youtube, though the full soundtrack, composed by the incredibly talented 陈筱舒 Amy Chen, can be heard on NetEase

The ending song, which is a version of the main theme that drew me into this drama:

  12. With a dismal drama viewing track record, I can only vote for one drama that I finished and enjoyed :sweatingbullets: Watching and loving Missing:The Other Side S2, but it doesn't count since it is still ongoing. With some dramas I'm interested in slated to air this year (Kin Eunhee's "The Devil" being one of them), perhaps I will be able to vote more next year

  13. Can't believe the final Clue#12 is up and Christmas is just a stone's throw away! Thank you to the EO team for such a fun countdown!

Figured out the main clue pretty much right away, and got the page number at my first try, bringing me to...

Didn't really follow this drama though I did watch snippets here and there. Probably watched more of the anime (and waiting for S2) than the live action :sweatingbullets: but heard good things about both.

Here's a very old recording of a favourite Christmas song "What Child is This", sung by one of my most loved singers from the days of my youth, Johnny Mathis...

and a more recent song "Mary Did You Know". I first heard it almost 10 years ago through this music video, and its lyrics and this version continue to move my heart immensely even now.

Wishing everyone who celebrate a very blessed Christmas, and to all, Happy Holidays!
