Have anybody discussed about how they feel about FJ recognizing XiZe as DJ?

How do you guys feel about that?

I wonder if that will change the arc of the story. With DJ changing her memories and stuff ...

I actually kinda like that she recognizes him as DJ. It had always bothered me when reading the drama that she fell in love with XZ too quickly, when she was Soo much in love with DJ. I can understand why she did what she did.. and it was really DJ any way..but there was still a bit of bitterness that she moved on fast..hahaha .

But with the drama, she never had to make those decisions...and she forgave him...a bit fast but what we do for love..:sweatingbullets:

I can see why you feel that way.

I like the new change, how FJ knows XZ is actually DJ. It makes it a lot less complicated.

However, I don't mind the original storyline too. It demonstrated to me that FJ loved DJ no matter how he looked. It is DJ' mannerism, the way he thinks, behaves and smell (sandwood) is what attracts FJ to DJ. FJ probably fell for XZ quickly because essential he is DJ. It's almost like FJ have no control over this and is instinctively attracted to DJ no matter what setting.

Also, why wouldn't she go for XZ if she thinks DJ is in love with someone else. Here is this gorgeous male who pampers her to no end. It also fits her personality profile. If she have given her best and the result is not what she desires, she will cut lose and move on. However, in saying that, the common theme in the novel and series is, people have little control over who they love.

Regarding how quick FJ forgives DJ. This is a nice character trait of hers, but she certainly doesn't forget lol. I think it is consistent with her character. FJ goes through many hardships, but she never blamed anyone else. Instead, to manage her disappointments, she tends to consider her next best options and focus on the future.

This is a reason why I think DJ loves FJ. He knows she is caring, kind and forgiving. If FJ isnt forgiving by nature, I don't think their relationship would work. FJ would have had too much resentment towards DJ from the past.

Hmm. I just watched Episode 46 in full. I guess because I already knew about the consummation scene, my expectations were managed and I didn't feel really outraged.

I really liked that they kept most of the scenes leading up to it - like how DJ sees FJ/Aranya with Shen Ye and then being too upset and getting drenched in the rain. It wasn't even just jealousy - it was the line, "I never thought I'd be too late". That is just such good angst. I really liked everything from there, the conversation on the bed when he lay down wet and confused, and then at the bath tub. The way DJ was sulking and refusing to move, until she got frustrated at him too haha. She tells him to remove his clothing if he can move and cover himself with a blanket while she ran the bath; otherwise to stay put if he couldn't move. He said he couldn't move, still trying to get her to stay. She gets exasperated and says, "Then bath with your clothes on!" And he sits up, "I can move now" all in the sulky tone. :sweatingbullets:

And the scene of the morning after, they were so cute and they snuggled, which I'm happy about :)

Actually thinking about it- that was exactly the problem with Shen Ye too (in the drama version anyway). He had probably never thought he would be too late. It seems like he finally realised that after FJ provoked him, saying that he had wronged Aranya.

Slowly savouring the episodes before the next week...

Good point. DJ is insecure when it comes to FJ, especially when he sees her caring about other males. I think DJ was confident that he can retain FJ's love, but seeing her embraced by another male was a shock. Most importantly, it looked like FJ did not reject the hug. While he was walking in the rain, he must have ran over all possible scenarios in his head, thinking what he had and should have done to change the result.

In reflection, episode 46 demonstrates how well FJ manage DJ. I love how FJ isn't a pushover and how she communicates. She is clear with her expectations and boundaries, and she showers DJ with just enough care and backs off. FJ also knows when she should listen and say the right words. No wonder DJ said he will learn from her!

The recent episodes have been quite a emotional roller coaster ride. It's tooth achingly sweet to see how cute FJ and DJ are when they are together. It's also bittersweet seeing Shen Ye and Aranya's love story.

  3. So I was randomly thinking, why are FJ and DH attracted to each other. Please note, my analysis is based on the novel and drama.

    FJ's character.

I love her character. She is a positive person, affectionate and a go getter.

FJ is a person that can be labeled as stubborn or have tunnel vision. Once she gets fixated on an idea, she will continue down that track and do what she needs to get the job done. On the other hand, she will try not to burden others with what she wants, she is logical and very understanding for most situations. When she runs into difficulties, She will not blame others, she'd calmly make changes where needed and soldier on.

FJ have many who loves her, this is because she is loyal and respectful to people around her. She gives as much as she receives from others.

FJ loves to have fun, the more the merrier. She likes to try and experience new things, and loves to share the joy with others.

As she grows older, she tries hard to hide that mischief side of hers and puts out a mature front for others to see.

Why FJ fell in love with DH.

FJ initially fell for his heroic deeds. As she got to know him better, she starts to admire him as a man, not a god. I think without realizing it, FJ fell deeply in love with DH because of their shared values. DH is dedicated, loyal, in his own ways he will try to returns favors he receives, he likes to try new things and enjoys the process of learning something new. DH is also a go getter and will do what it takes to get things done, but on a different scale to FJ, since he will bulldoze over people he does not care for.

Both DH and FJ view things in extreme. For example, once FJ decides she does not care, that thing or person no longer matters to her. Similarly DH puts matters as to attend or completely ignore.

I truly believe FJ loves DH for all his imperfections. FJ knows DH have a mean streak sense of humor and is shameless. She understands DH the reasons for most of his behaviours, as long as it does not relate to her! She know he is not charitable and does most things to entertain himself. Yet, she can't help but to be attracted to DH because they share so many common values.

For DH. I think DH is highly amused by FJ. Initially it was because she was different, she may present to others a mature front, but the glimpses of her mischievous behaviours have caught his attention. Her behaviours are out of the norm, that he can't help but to keep observing to see what she will do next. She became a mystery he have to unlock. That's why he kept testing her limits.

Before he knew it, DH is deeply in love with FJ. Because she can be caring, playful, smart and keeps him entertained. Her values are in line with his, he loves how she does not rely on him to solve everything, how she is quick to forgive, how she accepts him as he is. He loves it that she becomes 'childish' when they are together, because she is being true to herself and most likely, this side is only shown to him, so only he knows her that way. Her being beautiful is not a main attraction, but a bonus for DH.

As parting words I tried watching Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms but I just can't connect with it. The chemistry between the leads seem off for me. I'll probably watch it in the future for the sake of watching but not with the same sense of urgency as Ashes of Love.

I tried too, but couldnt get into it. I think the characters actions didn't sit well with me.

I don't know if it will suit you, but I found Love and Destiny, and Eternal Love of Dreams enjoyable.

Similar to Jinmi, the main female characters may start off as naive, loyal to friends and family, and abit clumsy at times, but they have good character growth along the way. The main male leads are quite different from Phoenix, but the common characteristic is that they will all do whatever it takes to be keep their women safe and fight fate.

  6. The crux of the drama isn’t about perfect love but the conditions of the human heart and accepting human frailties.

I feel that some frustration aimed at QG is a little unfair. I know she’s not perfect and I would never agree that her approach is always right but I never believed her to be deliberately and intentionally cruel or vindictive even when she was the Demon Goddess.

Her actions stemmed from the hurt and pain which was inadvertently caused or contributed by Zi Hua.

Haven't we all felt at some point in our lives where we’ve been so angry that we just want to lash-out at the person you love most?

QG is still a relatively young girl. I’m not particularly surprised by her teenage behaviour but to condemn her for actions as spiteful and mean because she wanted to “get back” at BZH in my opinion is a little harsh.

Even when she cursed him, she didn’t want him to die with her knowing how stubborn he could be, he would have followed her once she was gone.

So no, I don’t think she only hated him, there was protection and care at the end of it.

I total agree with myden and Soniya15, I would under those circumstances curse him as well.

He’s so heartless, never to have admitted his love her and to cut off the scar, oh dear, that was the pinnacle of “angst” and worse it was very hurtful to QG. I’m not saying who’s wrong or right but in any relationship it’s important to be honest, expressing how you feel about someone is just as important as the actions.

I know he was disgusted and disappointed that he had romantic feelings for his disciple which is a big no, no but to deny her the one thing she wanted to hear just before her death was heartless and it’s something I don’t understand. Now having seen it in the drama - I'm still left clueless.

It’s no wonder he went crazy. It’s all that repressed emotions and deep regret that he didn’t tell her he loved when he had the opportunity (many times) to do so.

Don’t get me wrong I still love BZH but he’s definitely not an easy man to love.

I agree with many of your points. I have not had the pleasure of reading the novel since I can't read Chinese, but from what I gathered I felt like the novel was also teaching us how love is not perfect, and to love is to sacrifice.

BZH is a boring yet interesting character. I enjoyed watching him change through the series. Originally his communication was never his strong point. It is almost like he has learnt to keep many thing to himself and independently solve any issues he encounters. BZH is a problem solver. He is almost a stereotypical guy whereby he only thinks about solving the issue, but not about people's emotions. Unfortunately BZH behaviour has always been reinforced, as everyone around him expects him to solve any problems, since he appears and is very competent in most cases.

BZH's life resolves around his strong values and ethics. He is the master of being logical! His speech and behaviour is largely guided by what he firmly believes in. BZH speaks enough to get his message across. Again, this method of communication always been this way. There had been no reason for him to question this. This started to change after QG appeared in his life. Although BZH continued to be guided by his values and ethics, he had slowly became slightly more vocal with his thoughts and indulged in small pleasures of daily routines with QG (i.e. sharing meals and hair brushed by QG). BZH was able to accept QG because she never questioned his values and ethics, never made unreasonable request for him to change. Instead, QG had always been a kind and compliant student. She adapted to BZH's lifestyle and adjusted to his needs. So I don't think he realised how profoundly QG affected him and changed him in her own ways.

Even to the end, BZH stuck to his beliefs. It is easy to call him stubborn or rigid, but I think we need to understand from his perspective. He had never experienced love like this before. Through BZH's "logical" reasoning, the only thing he could think of was to protect QG, keep her alive and safe from others. Even if it meant cutting off all physical contact with her. BZH refused to indulged in the notion of a romantic relationship with QG because that against his values. BZH is a person who holds true to his words, so when he accepted QG as his discipline, he hard sworn that he would treat her well, like a father and daughter relationship. So to go back against his words would be him breaking his values. That would mean he failed himself and most importantly failed QG. Crazy logic I know! Unfortunately BZH failed to take into the psychological trauma QG may have due to all these experience.

BZH did try really hard to be there for QG in his own ways. He continued to look after QG when she turned "bad." He could have turned his back and walked away. Annoyingly though, BZH thought the best method to get to QG was to continue his master role. Obviously by than, QG had out grown master and only wanted him as man.

I think because of BZH experience and personality, he never realised how his lack of vocal expression had caused QG so much pain. BZH never considered what he did not say was so important. BZH only realised the big mistake when QG died. I have no doubt that his self-reflection had caused him to go crazy in the book. Only when QG died, he realised what he thought was doing QG right, was in fact most likely wrong. For a person who had always been right, this must have been a huge psychological trauma to him, especially when it was a mistake he can not undo.

I know some of you thought that at the end of the series, it appeared to hint that BZH continued to act more like a master than a romantic partner. But I beg to differ. BZH appears to be considerate to QG's age. QG's hair style suggested that she may be back to her younger age stage. So it would be inappropriate to act like a lover towards QG. While they were on the raft, BZH accepted QG physical touch (i.e. leaning on his back). This suggested that BZH was no longer putting a wall between QG and him, instead he is letting QG dictate the speed of their relationship, unlike previously.

Please note, I have not read the novel, so all my assumptions are based on what I have read here and the TV series. So please feel free to disagree!!!

  7. *Edit*

Although the episodes were not subbed yet, I still cried like a baby, especially at the end when DG died in Sexy & Emo Shifu, and he kept repeating bùyào líkāi wo.:tears::tears::tears: Even as ZR was talking he looked so lost, and didn't even seem to be listening to ZR at all. These last two episodes had our Fated Couple on a Emotional rollercoaster and all kinds of crazy. To see Sexy Shifu as a vunerable and at times broken man, it just tore me up! Even though Pretty Flower has lost most of her memories, I love the fact that Sexy Shifu shows (us)his gentle loving side towards his Pretty Flower, he is still just a tad bit reserved but definitely not the same icy cold Superior Immortal he was in the beginning.

I believe all the actors and actresses did a great job in portraying their characters, my hats off especially to Wallace Huo & Li Ying of their portrayal of our Fated Couple, bringing so much emotions and depth to the characters.

Sorry for cutting your post. I agree with you. I cried like no tomorrow when I watched Shifu stabbed DG. I did not understand all of what they said, but I found it sad how:

    • Shifu was sad, yet calm and resolute about being with DG in death. It's almost like a relief he can still be with her in death.
    •  I don't think MY realised the deep devotion Shifu and DG had for one another. I felt like it only hit him when he saw Shifu was willing to die with DG and DG immediately cured Shifu. It must have hit him like a ton of brick to see how Shifu and DG was willing to sacrifice their own lives for one another.
    • It broke my heart to see such a proud Shifu completely broke down while he hugged on to DG. If only he said those words to DG when she was alive. It must have been a shock for others to see this emotional and tender BZH.
    • Shifu looked like his mind just broke while he hugged DG and stroke her hair. Wallace's acting was great. I can imagine him staying in the position forever if no one urged him to move.
    • MY's devotion for Shifu was just as deep. I think he only realised how he miscalculated the whole situation. MY's was stubborn and could only think of getting rid of DG, the threat to Shifu's life. Seeing how broken Shifu was, MY must have realised without DG, BZH would never be the BZH he knows.
    •  Other than obsession, there is a theme of stubborn people who thinks they know what is the best for someone else.
    • This drama teach us what we should NOT do...be stubborn, take on all problems ourselves and never discuss concerns with others.

I can't wait for the English subtitles so I can weep all over again!

  8. Omg, I'm so sad that the drama ended. I'm not really satisfied with the ending. It's a happy ending but not enough. I want to see BZH going crazy and MY sacrificing himself to save HQG. SXM said no one expected MY to save QG. Me neither. I can't believe it myself. Oh man what a surprise, guess he has a heart. :D

When HQG sacrificed herself,  I cried so much.Poor girl. Done so much and get nothing back, not even her shift full trust. Can't believe BZH believe she would kill people. Shouldn't he be smart enough to know it's an illusion?

Me too. I know it has been explained, but I want to see it with my eyes! I want to see how BZH behaved when he went crazy and how everyone reacted around him, I want to see why and how MY sacrificed himself. It is these details that builds the story.

I guess we just have to wait for the unedited version. I am just gutted though, I expected to indulge in the love story and the angst that goes with it, but it is rather hard to achieve that feeling when the episodes are so butchered. Instead we come out with feelings of confusion and anger.

Noooooo... She still called him "Shifu" :tears:

I don't think it is a bad thing. I think her calling "Shifu" has become an endearment, especially when there is no one else that can call him that.

  10. Thanks everyone for the spoilers!!!

@Cupcakeninja, wow that is hot! May be much too hot for TV. But I am so thankful you translated this bit. I loved how QG drove BZH a little nutty there. I actually want to see the uncomfortable face HZH would have there. It was interesting to read how only at that instant BZH realised QG is not a little girl anymore.

I may have missed this part, but when did QG started to "hate" BZH in the novel?

@miaka fy, Thanks for the suggestions :) I have always loved  wuxia genre. In fact, I probably prefer it over the modern series. I can only understand Cantonese and I can't read Chinese, so unfortunately I am unable to enjoy many of the China productions. Luckily, it seems like there are a lot more English subs now. So please recommend any good ones you can think of. The bad side to watching this series is I think my expectation is placed quite high now. I am unsure if I will be able to enjoy the other wuxia dramas as much.

  11.

BZH epitomes the (near) perfect man - smart, cool, leadership qualities, calm, decisive, firm yet gentle, kind, cultured, protective towards those he love, dependable, faithful....etc etc.  Most of all, he's darn beautiful!  He's probably the dream man for most girls (for me too if I am still single).  So we don't want him mad.  We want to have a chance to woo him if HQG doesn't want him.  I am sure ZiXun would like to have a second chance too.

No, BZH is FAR from the perfect man. Except for his amazing looks, his personality has a lot of drawbacks that would send any normal girl running in the other direction. He's overly self-righteous, has zero communication skills, has no sense of humor, and sees the worlds in two colors: black and white. In the real world, he'd be described as having a "stick up his @rse". It'd be exhausting to have BZH as a significant other; he'd never be the one to apologize in any fight and the girl would always have to bend over backwards to apologize for everything. No one here would even meet his standards, much less maintain a relationship with him.

And that is why HQG is perfect for him, she is willing to take him as he is, warts and all. HGQ complete devotion to BZH is quite an obsession. But like they say, love is blind.

I have to say though, BZH's devotion to HQG is just as strong. He just hides it well. So well that he himself does not even realise how much he loves her.

@miaka fy. I know! Where have I been?! I have tried to watch another Wallace series while waiting for this one, "Perfect Couple" I couldn't finish it. Wallace was amazing. I just couldn't get use to the main female lead. For some strange reason, I found her chin very pointy and distracting. Weirdly enough, I watched half of "Lady and the Liar" and it wasn't so bad. Maybe it was the makeup. I am definitely loving this series. I am just annoyed with myself because I can't read Chinese. I want to know everything about the characters!! But luckily, for the international viewers, there are so many wonderful people here that translated the novel.

  12. I just watched the latest Eng subs. How can anyone hate Sifu?! The way he holds her, the way he cradles her head and gently speaks to her, it is so full of love and tenderness. It is as though she is the most precious thing in the world. How can that NOT be anything but love?

This is the first time I have watched Wallace act, I know where have I been?! Wallace definitely nailed the role.

  13. @miaka fy, I started watching this amazing drama a month a go. I stopped just before everything turned custarded because I wanted to binge on it. All your posts helped to satisfy my craving for the drama :)

@thundergirl3 and @Checkmate24601, lol I am nothing but a humble servant to dramas and variety shows.

@Checkmate24601, I got to this level by just spazzing like crazy in drama and shippers' threads.

  14. Thanks for all the amazing analysis and information. I can't read or understand Chinese, and so everyone's post in this forum has made it a lot easier for me to understand from all the characters POV.

This is slightly OT. But I know a friend who is an actor/celebrity in HK. He actually said there is a golden rule that many of the actors and actresses follow. He explained that it is common to fall "in love" with your acting partner. It is easy to get confused with whether the feeling at the time is for the character or actual feelings for one another. To remove themselves from the character and feelings that comes with it, they try not to have contact with the acting colleagues for three months. I am not sure if they do the same in China, I just thought it was interesting to hear.

  15. Hmmm.. Blue roses, what does it mean? I searched it #justforfun but why my delulu says he bought it in purpose :phew:

blue rose is a flower of the genus Rosa(family Rosaceae) that presents blue-to-violet pigmentation instead of the more common red, white, or yellow. Blue roses are often portrayed in literature and art as a symbol of love and prosperity to those who seek it.

Thanks for the interesting information. I was wondering about the blue rose.

I don't know HJH's personality too well. But I feel like he isn't the kind that will do so much (i.e. flowers and cake) for a "friend." It is so sweet to see how after WGM, HJH is still looking after Yura in his own way. Yura is indeed Jong Hyun's happy virus :)
