Hi
It's been a long while for me and seems pretty quiet here? But @caileysmiley has definitely been working hard!
I just wanted to share an article I came across Kyo on Naver. I know the large majority (like 98%) of the articles and comments are pretty much inundated by PBG. And I love the guy. He's a cute and fluffy puppy. But I found myself kind of wanting to see articles talking about Kyo's acting. And then I stumbled across one that was highlighted. It doesn't have an insane amount of comments or clicks, but it's still a good one. Sorry if some of my translation is off in places. Some Korean phrases are just hard to directly translate to English.

"Encounter" Song Hye Kyo's tears + smile. 'Touching' emotional ending, irreplacable actress.
Sometimes a single look can mean more than a 100 words. So many meanings in a single glance. It leaves a resounding impact on viewers. In this respect, the way Song Hye Kyo acted through her eyes at the end of the 4th episode of the Wed/Thurs tvN drama "Encounter" deserves attention.
Song Hye Kyo's character in Encounter, Cha Soo Hyun, is a woman who has never once lived a life she has chosen. Even though it seems like she has everything as the CEO of a top hotel company, she is woman who has never been able to express how she truly feels. Every action becomes an issue, and she became the queen of gossip. Her life was not free and emotionless.
This kind of Cha Soo Hyun met Kim Jin Hyuk, a man who has lived a life completely opposite of hers. When she is with Kim Jin Hyuk, she forgets reality and rediscovers the laughter she had once lost. But she is also fearful as he approaches her. She worries that his life will become complicated because of scandals, that she will have to once again painfully push away another friend she has come to know.
The sleeping Kim Jin Hyuk can sense Cha Soo Hyun's loneliness in her confession. She lived a life where simple things like making friends was a difficult feat. Rather than experience the pain of pushing friends away over and over again, she eventually decided to choose loneliness first instead.
In the midst of this, Cha Soo Hyun is faced with a sudden problem. Someone posted a rumor about her on the hotel employee forum. Like she has always done before, Cha Soo Hyun goes about her day head strong. But in truth, the stares and attention she receives are difficult for her. In this moment, Kim Jin Hyuk bravely appears in front of her. The way her eyes brim with tears as she stares and smiles at him is a touching moment.
Song Hye Kyo shared Cha Soo Hyun's emotions and story through her eyes, pulling in the viewers. Cha Soo Hyun was used to enduring everything alone, but was that much lonelier for it. Kim Jin Hyuk's presence becomes a warm comfort for her. As tears fill her eyes, Cha Soo Hyun's emotions also grow. It is because of the warmth embracing her loneliness. With tears that look like they could fall at any moment, she smiles. Her presence at the end leaves a lasting impression.
Even without saying much, with a stare, a look, Song Hye Kyo speaks to the viewers. She helps make the end scene that much more special. There should be a greater appreciation for actors who can express so skillfully. Song Hye Kyo, an actress who can express emotions so deeply, we look forward to seeing what else you can show us in the future.

I think the author is a fan of Kyo lol. I was originally going to summarize it, but I really liked the way it was written, so ended up just translating the whole thing. Hope you all enjoy!
Edit: oops. I also wanted to include some of the comments left on the article:
"I'm pulled in by her"
"This is why people say SHK, SHK. CSH fighting!"
"While reading this, I remembered that the director had said he couldn't think of another actress who could express CSH better. From looks, to facial expression, to her gaze, CSH is an exact match with SHK."
"A look that makes me pay attention. I could feel SH's emotions through her gaze, and I laughed and cried along with her. This is SHK's strength."
"SHK is so good! PBG is also a cool boyfriend. Daebak!"

Um... so the angst has definitely arrived. And it's only ep 3!
I was kind of surprised that the opening scenes were with SH vs Team Evil Moms. I know they've been portraying SH's dad in a more sympathetic light. And it's clear that SH is really only enduring all this because she really loves her dad, not for her mom's ambition. But it makes you wonder, how "good" is her father when he must know the extremes his wife goes to use their daughter for personal advancement. I suspect that when the time does come that SH realizes her happiness also has worth and she finally stands against her parents, thus "risking" her father's political career, her father will likely be more forgiving than her mother. But still, turning a blind eye to his daughter's unhappiness when he is at the center of the reason for her current circumstance is just as bad.
I wonder about the pacing for this story. It's only ep 3 and we're already heading head first into the deep end of Angst. And the conflict is the more typical family/power drama, which usually appears in the middle of the story-arc in dramas as that FINAL hurdle to happily ever after. And while SHG and PBG have definite star power, surviving a dragged-out evil mother-in-law plot throughout the entire series with high ratings will be tough. So fingers-crossed that the writer is playing a long-game.
In terms of foreshadowing, I think there will likely be an incident with her sleeping pills, possibly an OD situation during some moment of extreme turmoil, or an accident, like what almost happened in ep 1 before JH caught her. Her dependency has been on display since ep 1, and was highlighted by the driver in their exchange in her room and his look of disapproval. Or maybe I've seen too many kdramas. The foreshadowing just seems so blatant, no?
I'm not sure if her ex, JWS, will turn evil or not. I could see it going both ways. I really hope he does not go bad, as it would be more refreshing that way. And instead, they end up as friends and working together to help each other to break free of their mothers' grasps and live their own lives. I feel like JWS is a rather sad character. He likely felt like he connected to SH because of their similar circumstance, and chose to let her go because of his love for her as he was powerless against his mother to do otherwise. I hope that his feelings for SH do not turn into possessiveness, like his mother. Rather, that through his feelings for SH, he is able to finally stand up to his mother in the way he should have when they were married.
Finally, I know everyone seems to be fawning over JH's sudden confession, but honestly, I think one of my favorite moments was when he rang her doorbell and she opened the door, and he freaked out and made up a random excuse about wanting to take her to eat this soup. Such an obvious lie, and you know she could tell, because it was so absurd. But he was looking SO nervous and desperate and sincere. SH just smiles gently and plays along. One thing I noticed was that in this scene, the camera focuses on their feet, panning from his sneakers to her slippers. Then again under the table later at the restaurant. The closeness of their feet under the table after his confession just got to me, and was THE favorite moment of this episode for me. The way one foot slowly shifted in her direction, almost earnestly yet cautiously. It was so brief, but SO intimate for some reason. What a nice, subtle touch by the director. Then in the preview for ep 4, you see on of her feet move away from his. There has been such an emphasis on the characters' feet/shoes as a reflection of their feelings since ep 1, from SH's heels, walking barefoot, to her sandals. I hope the show continues to utilize this symbolism as an ongoing thread through the show.

Hello! I think it’s been like 2-3 yrs since I last posted on a soompi forum but SHK in a drama will always get me! I was curious about how people here and knetizens were responding. I’m happy to see that the ratings did well for the first two eps.
Really, I just wanted to respond to some of the comments I’ve seen in regards to the unrealistic nature of KJH’s interview/application and employment and his super happy temperament that some find unnatural or awkward. Also, I wanted to respond to comments about CSH’s “stiff” character in ep 1 and how she is portrayed as a company president that has “time” to “pick-up” an employee. Most of these were comments made by knetizens, which I thought were pretty unfair and highlighted an underlying bias.
There are so many, SO MANY, kdramas in which the protagonists are a RICH MAN and a POOR BUT HAPPY GIRL. (They call this type of girl character as a “Candy” based on a famous manhwa character who represented this archetype.). Rich man often has unexplicable amounts of time to run his company and to also harass/passive-aggressive flirt with his Candy, who is able to smile through any hardship and has a loveable and bright personality. Rich man also is often taciturn, cold, and unable to emote (often due to some family trauma, or uncaring father and overly suffocating mother) or fully share is his feelings/emotions with others including the girl he secretly likes but is unwilling to admit and will say and do things opposite of his attraction that can put off the girl. But girl still finds him charming nonetheless. And as long as the actor can act decently and is good-looking, knetizens will SWOON and call him hot and cute and not question the unrealistic nature of how this rich man character runs a company or how unlikeable he would be in reality for being so cold. And there is often little to no comments about how unseemly it is of the rich man ceo making moves on the girl who often, somehow has come to work in his company.
People have been correctly making the point that you sometimes need to suspend reality and just enjoy a drama as a drama. In addtion to that, I actually see CSH and KJH as an exact gender role reversal of the typical kdrama archetype described above, and this is actually what makes this drama SO interesting to me so far. This was particularly well displayed in ep2 when CSH drove home a drunk KJH who cutely embarrassed himself and had to face her as his superior the next day and was teased about it. (Often the girl gets drunk and has to be “rescued” by boy and then she is blanket-kicking the next morning about having to face said boy who will somehow tease her about her drunken antics). It was displayed again when he was offering to drive her back after the ramen and she leaned over to adjust the seat. This was a total “let me reach over you to buckle you up” moment often seen when boy would drive girl in his car and you get that momentry closeness. KJH was CLEARLY affected btw. And so the change in role and power dynamics is very interesting and cute to me.
I can see how this story might later go down the road of the warm, pure KJH rescuing the trapped CSH from her ice cold tower, but I hope it’s just a piece of the larger picture. I hope it will be largely CSH learning about herself through KJH that she is so much more than what others/society define her to be. And for KJH to grow and face the harshness of being knocked down in the real world, but learning how to stand back up through CSH.
Once I started to see these gender role reversals, I saw why SHK might have been attracted to this character and story. SHK often likes to choose projects where her character often has a strong sense of self and quiet strength. I hope the writer and director are able to play on this point well, and importantly move beyond the family drama/power struggle dynamics rather than dwelling on those obstacles too heavily.
Just my thoughts so far. Curious on how the story continues to play out. Hope it’s not too predictable (in a good way). And that the story is strong. And that it’s a happy ending lol.

Hello everyone!
It's been a while since I made a post of just my thoughts on Kyo and recent happenings. I finally have some time today so I hope you don't mind. I'll hide it since I tend to write long posts. In any case, let's stay positive. SHK looked so happy in the recent Chengdu FM when she went as SJK's guest. Waiting to hear about any news in terms of future projects/appearances. But other than that, I'm happy she seems to be in a good place in her life right now.
SpoilerSo much has happened for SHK within this past year or so. And there has been so much news about her for various reasons within just the past few months. As a fan, I really love hearing about her, reading about her, and seeing all this activity around her because it's not very often that this happens. Fans who have followed her for a long time are always so grateful for any news and don't take anything for granted. What makes me even happier is that she is getting so much love right now. Not just from her steady fans, but from a lot of new fans too. It's amazing for a celebrity/actress who has been in the industry for so long to continuously become a trend over and over again.
But, as so many people here have already pointed out, along with so much love and attention, there will always be some negativity that piggy backs along for a ride. To be honest, it is frustrating to see hateful comments about Kyo here or elsewhere. And I also want to constantly post and argue back. But I want to suggest just taking a step back and thinking before reacting first and regretting later. It's unfortunate that it's always the hateful, ugly comments that people always cling to and constantly highlight. It's unfortunate that there is so much optimism and love, but people focus on the minor negatives. I wish people would realize that by focusing, re-sharing, and reacting to that hate, it only helps to spread it. Of course, when something needs to be said, it should be. But most of the negativity is so trivial, it really doesn't even deserve recognition. There's a reason why we ignore trolls. But I've also realized that unfortunately, not all negativity comes from just random trolls. Just know that there is definitely more love than hate. And that giving out positive energy will come back to you in turn.
I feel grateful to Kyo's thread because I have come to know wonderful members and have read beautiful posts about SHK and fan's love for her. It really just confirms to me how great her fandom is. I sometimes feel like some fans (maybe newer ones?) worry for her more when they see comments here and there. And not to say that your concern is misplaced, because as fans we all want what's best for Kyo, but I just want to reassure these fans that SHK is so strong. She might be small, but she is so strong. She has gone through so much and weathered it all, all the while staying true to who she is and what she believes in. She surrounds herself with people she loves and trusts. She speaks her mind when the time calls for it. She will bear the brunt of the media, but won't let the media dictate how to run her life. She's endured jealous fans. She's seen the highs and the lows, and knows not to take anything for granted. And it's because her fans come in all ages and have followed her for the length of her long career that we are protective but not unbearable, for her sake. We follow her for who she is, not just based on drama personas or looks. And also, because of all these reasons, we just want her to be happy. And as she likewise loves her fans, I'm sure she would want the same for us.
Trust me, I know it's sometimes hard to do what I preach. lol. And it's so much easier to give into frustration and bitterness. And I actually think people are perfectly valid in these feelings. But I know so many of us already try not to get dragged down by the hate and try not to react with more open anger/frustration on the threads. Let's keep working hard to follow Kyo's example and become stronger together by trying to stay positive.

So @hclover96 provided some additional Q&A's from the W magazine interview which I believe were not included in the online article I previously translated. It seems that these were additional Q&A's from the actual article published in the magazine. Thought I could share here
Again... Please keep this in this thread. Do not take out without permission or proper credit. Thank you!

Q: What was the biggest lesson you learned?
A: I've known director Wang Kar-wai for a long time and was curious about his work style. I was also curious about the shooting environment of Chinese actors and staff. I can't specifically point out and say what I learned, but I observed many new things. As I traveled a lot, I felt the way I viewed the world gradually expanded without even realizing, and so it was an experience which allowed me to change/grow. I also experienced a thirst for acting. Sometimes I would wait to film for a week, but wouldn't be able to film even one scene in the end, so it planted within me a thirst to act freely. The project I entered after [t/n: The Grandmaster] was <That Winter the Wind Blows>, and I think I was able to have the best focus because of it (laughs).
Q: Out of the whole day, what is the time you like the most?
A: When the sunlight shines lazily around 3pm, I like to open the windows and listen to music and I feel myself becoming more peaceful. If I take a nap during the day, I think I sleep even better too.
Q: In dramas, it seems a bit better, but in movies it seems difficult to find female characters that are charming and realistic. Male-centric movies as a genre also has become a trend.
A: I think it has been this way for quite a while now. As such, many actresses have turned to dramas. There also has been constant discussion concerning the lack in quality of projects or roles for actresses, but I don't think that's enough to fix the problem. I think the people who make these projects must also have a reason. Male actors have attendance power as many of the viewers are female. But if a variety of genres/projects came out, actresses could also be included and new roles would be challenged.
Q: Your appearance in your recent movie <My Brilliant Life> was very fresh.
A: Two sons... (laughs) That's right, it's because I was essentially raising two sons. The story was more focused on the son and father relationship, but the supportive role of the mother was also fun.
Q: It was the extreme opposite of the previous film <The Grandmaster>.
A: I knew it was a small role but chose the project on director Wang Kar-wai's recommendation. In the end, it took 4 years. It was a much longer time than originally anticipated, and so even if good projects would come in from Korea, I couldn't participate, and so it was a bit upsetting/unfortunate at times. Of course I was happy to be able to work with a great director and actors, but it was a time when I coexisted with happiness and suffering. [t/n. the rest of the answer is cut off.]
Q: It was a drama that was 100% pre-produced. How does it compare to filming in real time and seeing the response live/in-person?
A: I think filming was more fun while getting live feedback. I think we would have been able to feel the response more through the ratings on set and share in that feeling with the staff. This drama received so much love that it would have helped make the environment lively and fun enough that the hardship would have felt lessened. In that sense, it seems like a shame. As an actor, I think having a project half pre-produced seems good. It was a easier on my body and it was nice that I had more than enough time to consider my character, but because of location we had to shoot the episodes/scenes out of order, so it was sometimes hard to chase after my character's feelings.
Q: Relatively speaking, if you participated in a drama that didn't get high ratings, do you think you still would be as confident as you would be after experiencing ones that did well?
A: Wanting to look better, to pop out more, having the need to gain something--I think if I was a younger actor, I would be more distraught with lower ratings. But when I reflect back on that mindset, I don't think I felt a large responsibility towards acting or my character. But now, I feel responsibility and I focus on the entirety of the project. My popularity and the need to look good for somebody is no longer a goal of mine. I don't just consider my own results, but also that of the male protagonist, the supporting actors, sunbaes and hoobaes. It's because we all work together as a team that if there is a positive end result, I am happy as a team member.

@megbc8 I can summarize/rough translate/paraphrase most of the video :]
So just a heads up, this episode was apparently aired while DOTS was airing. And actually it's not the same episode discussing SHK from the show Heard it Through the Grapevine, which is what was discussed in the shipper's thread. But it is a similar type of show and the content is pretty similar, though I think they do offer a bit more insight here maybe because the reporters here are a bit older. They also actually discuss SHK a bit more and not just about rumors with costars and whatnot. But again, like with Heard it Through the Grapevine, most of it is pretty known knowledge. If you're her fan, you know most of this. Still, it's always fun to hear again. The part about her family was a bit sad and sweet though.
And again, PLEASE KEEP THIS IN THIS THREAD. Do not take out without permission and proper credit.
----
In the beginning they talk a lot about SHK being a Hallyustar in China. They mention that SJK should be so grateful to SHK that he should carry her on her back (lol) since it was in large part due to SHK''s popularity there that the drama was able to air in China to begin with. They also pointed to the fact that many Chinese viewers first started watching because they liked SHK, but ended up being fans of SJK as well. They also point to one of her strengths in pushing many of her male costars to bigger stardom.
The reason why SHK is so beloved in China was also discussed. They mention that Chinese fans appreciate all the effort she puts in to her roles in her Chinese films, despite maybe only appearing for a short amount of time, and how she was so gracious about it. It's also mentioned how she worked with director Won Kar-wai and even though the filming took a long time and she was only a supporting role, she never spoke ill about her experience and only talked positively about the director and how much she learned from working with him and that kind of attitude contributes to why Chinese people love her. The fact that she knows multiple languages also helps. And that her CF levels is on par with other top Chinese stars. Of course, her looks are mentioned as a large reason for her popularity and how Chinese people are attracted to her face-type. So much so, in fact, that the Chinese actress who underwent plastic surgery to look like Kyo is again discussed. But the important thing from that discussion is that they mention just how much more successful the Chinese actress became due to just even looking similar to Kyo. So basically, just imagine how popular and loved Kyo then actually is.
The conversation again goes back to The Grandmaster and how dedicated SHK was to the film. She continued to practice martial arts even when the film was on hiatus and despite the fact that her body might become more muscular (essentially she was more concerned with her role than vanity). They go through her career from her winning the school uniform model contest to now. It's also mentioned that her looks and height, makes people essentially want to protect her and care for her, and she has maintained that image through the present. They also mention that in her casting for Sungpoong Clinic was her first major project, and they had been considering casting another actress but the casting crew were so taken with SHK that they ended up casting both. Then SHK went on to AIMH, All-in, FH, etc.
One of the reporters mention that she is often asked who is the prettiest actress she has interviewed and she says her answer is always SHK. The reporter mentions that she still can't forget her first meeting with SHK because of her beauty, focusing largely on her eyes, and that her gaze almost felt a little sad but still beautiful. The reporter had also asked SHK what part of her she thought was the most beautiful, and Kyo picked her eyes. But the reporter also mentioned that SHK had been voted in a poll as a celebrity with the prettiest lips. Then they all praise her lips and another reporter mentions that the lipsticks she uses in dramas always tend to sell out. It's then mentioned that when interviewing SHK, Kyo had mentioned that she does take care of her lips since they tend to get dry a lot. SHK's popularity back when is mentioned. And one of the male reporters mention that he still remembers when in the past he came across SHK in real life just by chance around then, and she essentially was the only face he could see.
They then start discussing DOTS casting and SJK/SHK. They state that even though SHK is three years older that no real age difference was apparent. One of the reporters mention that when SJK's casting was announced, SHK got more facial treatments etc. but that even without all that, she probably would have been fine. It's also stated that SHK had been grateful to SJK for also taking care of the staff and others on set like an oppa instead despite the fact that he was younger. Then another reporter states that it was apparent in the first 2 eps that she was older (-,- lol. I kind of don't think she is a big fan of Kyo just based on comments she makes throughout the clip at moments haha) but that yeah, once SHK's styling started to change in the latter episodes, she did look younger. Another reporter states that the types of comments actresses hate the most is saying that they look like an auntie compared to their male counterpart. He states that there are a few actresses who are often hit with this auntie image (but he can't say who lol) but SHK never has had any negative comments about her looks even though she has worked with top handsome stars like JIS. And that while she exudes a confidence about her looks, she still wants to be recognized more for her acting. And they mention again that SHK had stated that SJK seemed older because his body was in pain and ached more than hers. Then they go into why SJK's skin is so good (which he says is due to clean insides/good bowel movement ahah) and tried to care for it in the army through sunblock or face masks.
Next is the dating rumors of SS couple that had been going on while DOTS was airing. One reporter mentions that for one actor he knows, his wife will let him act freely while working, but will essentially lock their husband in their home after a project in order for any lingering feelings with their co-star to fade. But he wonders if for SHK, in some projects, her and her costar actually maybe do act really in love and that's why she's these onscreen romances actually also happen in real life. They mention the NY meal with SJK and their staff and how she was really just cool and chill about it, acknowledging it and basically asking, 'so what? It's no big deal.' They mention again the "couple" bracelets that were proven false. They also discuss briefly SJK's ideal type. The reporter says that he stated prior that he never dated someone who first approaches him and asks him out. He always needs to feel attracted first and ask her out because he likes her.
One of the reporters mention that in the past SHK had mentioned to her that it was a bit unfortunate that in reality, she had only actually dated two times and was in her early 30s and that's very normal. But because of media and the fact that she's a celebrity, it seems to the public that all she does is date and not act. But in fact, she really wants to be recognized for her acting, so it was a bit unfortunate. So this female reporter states that she doesn't think SHK will have a public relationship in the future if possible, and that she actually hopes if she does date, she's rooting that she doesn't get caught.
The discussion again turns to her eyes and how good she is at crying so beautifully. And then they discuss that actually, there might be a reason to why she is able to cry so sadly. And that reason may be her family, and they only know all this because apparently her grandfather and father had done an interview when she was around 24 yrs old. Her grandfather's age, though had been around 60, which is younger than expected. So when they looked into her background, they found that her grandfather had gotten married when he was 18 and became a father to his son (SHK's dad) at a young age. Likewise, SHK's dad also married at 18 and had Kyo when he was 19. So that's why her grandfather was so young. Eventually, her parents divorce and her father had stated it was because he had married so young, at that time, there had been so much stuff he wanted to do. He also had to serve his military duty. So it all contributed to the separation. So in the end, her father remained in Daegu while SHK went with her mother to Seoul. But the reporter mentioned that while her mother took wonderful care of her, there were moments where SHK sometimes would need a father figure at times, like at her school, and her grandfather would instead come and help. Because they had been separated while she was young, the reporter mentions that it would be completely understandable if Kyo was resentful to her father, but she's not like that at all and instead occasionally calls her father and helps him not feel so burdened. But even so, her father has stated that to this day, he still can't really watch her dramas because when he watches her cry, he wonders if she can cry so much because of the hardships he caused her and hurt she felt when she was younger. They then mention how filial she is as a daughter to her mom and the house that she bought for her, and then they discuss all her realty. They also say that she's still very close to her mother and that her mother is beautiful as well. She also still listens to her mother's feedback on her dramas and has her mom monitor regularly.
SJK's bromance with JIS, LKS, and ISW is mentioned and also his upcoming movie. Then they discuss the possible ending of DOTS. And that's it!
----
AND the Dispatch photos! I agree with the sentiment of most people here. As long as she's happy, I'm happy.
I don't find the pictures really that groundbreaking though since it's just them having dinner and I think it's already pretty well known that they hang out in private already. But it's still nice to see more pictures of them and see SHK enjoy herself and relax.

Ah I just wanted to stop by and congratulate SHK for her two awards!!
I've been lurking a bit in the shipper thread and caught up here, and it seems like a lot of fans are understandably disappointed with SHK not winning best actress/daesang.
To be honest, I felt like this year was really tough competition in terms of nominees. I, for one, did watch Signal. And to be VERY honest, it was REALLY good. I started skeptically in the beginning and was really impressed throughout the entire run. It might not be everyone's favorite genre, but I was really happy that it was recognized for its quality, especially since it is from a cable network with less access to promotion and viewers. Did I want SHK to win? YES, OF COURSE! But truly, KHS was really deserving of the award as well. And frankly, I understand why the majority of netizens are up in arms over why JJW did not win for best actor/daesang for Signal. Not saying this to bring the mood down or anything, but to help give fans some perspective in terms of how tough the TV categories were this year. (And that's a really great thing in terms of the industry). Plus better quality and variety of work for actors is also what SHK cheers for.
Additionally, I actually think it's really important that cable shows are properly recognized and applauded for their works since more recently, they offer a greater variety and more opportunities than public broadcast. Also, they don't have an end of the year award show like the major public broadcast networks do, so many great works and the efforts of great actors/actresses go unrecognized.
When I first saw the nominees released, I had a feeling it would be largely between Signal and DOTS.
Now if this had been KBS Drama Awards, I would have also felt that SHK had legitimately been robbed because KBS has mostly been in a rut in terms of drama quality and popularity besides DOTS. But in this case, I really think fans should not take it so hard. And in any case, as much as SHK/SJK/Shippers are bemoaning the Baeksang awards for cheating their stars, you have to realize that other fans of other stars are doing the same for different reasons. Kyo fans bemoan Baeksang for choosing KHS, but Signal fans bemoan Baeksang for not giving any award to JJW. While some award shows are much more obvious in favoritism, Baeksang tends to be on the better end of trying to be fair and is one of the few inclusive awards. And as such, they really can't please everyone. In the end, there were just more deserving nominees than awards.
Basically, let's not bash others simply to praise Kyo. It's not her way.
It does suck that a major Baeksang award has eluded SHK for so long. I'm sure the time will come.
If anything, I feel like SHK and SJK both really attended for their fans. Coming together also was such sweet fan service. They must have known the overwhelming amount of votes they won. And SHK looked so happy and so much more comfortable than she usually does at an award show. And that itself made me happy.
Additionally, I think it's really impressive that SHK was able to win the popularity award! She's not an idol but she was able to prove once again her star power and gain so many new fans. And considering everything she went through and the emotional turmoil she must have felt, I feel like the public recognition and all the love from fans means that much more to her.
I will confidently say this though, and this is even with objectivity... SHK was the prettiest actress there. I mean, maybe it's because she was wearing all white and the skirt was large so it helped illuminate her face maybe.. but she was glowing.
Anyways, I was just simply happy to see SHK on screen again. It felt so long since I last saw her on a screen.
So, I'm just grateful she attended. It's the little things. We can't forget the little things.

It's been a while but glad to finally see her photoshoots and associated articles finally come out!
Here's the translation to the W magazine article Q&A that was posted online. Didn't really read over and edit too carefully because it is late here now, so sorry for any typos, but thought I could translate for people here. So enjoy!
Again: PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THIS OUT OF THIS THREAD OR DISTRIBUTE WITHOUT PERMISSION AND PROPER CREDIT. Please respect this request for my translations and the work of others. Do not make me have to put an ugly watermark behind the text of future translations. It makes it really annoying to read. >.<
Thanks @khxy for posting the link! And thank you for your translations of the Elle China article!!
SPELLBOUND (The girl, Song Hye Kyo)
The weather for today's outdoor shoot was unrealistically clear. Before, I would purposely go outside to enjoy this kind of weather, but lately I'm usually at home. Unlike when I was younger, my social circle isn't as wide so the people I meet tends to be fixed (laughs). I have to work on projects and my friends have work every day. I go out on the terrace during the day to soak in the sun and enjoy the wind, just along those lines.
A few years ago when you did an interview with W, you said that instead of resting, you liked to keep working. On the other hand, there are actors who like to rest and recharge for long periods and work in blinding spurts. I'm still the type that wants to work. But after one project ends and before I meet the next project, I think I do need some time to zone out. Something like sending my mind away. Taking care of my everyday life and being able to empty and forget things I had built inside, that kind of time. But if I spend too much time not working, I get worried that I'll lose a certain sense [of acting]. That's why, even though it's not an ENG camera for a drama, I like to do these kinds of magazine photoshoots in front of cameras and stay nervous [alert]..
For the KBS documentary <May, The Children> that aired yesterday, you narrated without accepting the appearance fee. It was a documentary about pediatric medical care, and a female doctor who struggles to build a system for terminally ill children. I received this offer after I finished playing a doctor in the drama <Descendants of the Sun>, and I wanted to give strength to the person working hard all alone. Since it was a story about sick children, my heart did hurt, but I recorded in the hopes that my voice would help even a little bit. Because it's something that only takes 3-4 hours to invest, it's a bit embarrassing to say anything more.
You supported Korean brochures for MoMA and worked to install a Korean promotional video box in a Boston art gallery. What made you feel the need to start this kind of work? It's not work that I started while thinking of large goals. Not just me, but I think anybody who has free time and starts to observe there surroundings would have noticed. There were many times when I would have the desire to do something, but couldn't because I didn't know how. One time I went to a museum in the UK and the audio guide had Japanese, Chinese, but not Korean so it was frustrating. After mentioning that in an interview, Professor Seo Kyung Deok noticed it and contacted me with a proposal. It didn't require a large amount of money as I thought it would. I was just able to meet someone with the same feelings, and wanting to do [this work] consistently for a long time seems important.
It's been about one month since <Descendents of the Sun> finished. How have you been these days? Rather than one month, it feels as if half-a-year has passed to me since the pre-production of the drama was completed quite some time ago. Nothing much has changed. I'm happy the drama did well but I'm not excessively excited.
The ratings surpassed 30%. Isn't that something to feel good about as an actor? If I was an actor in my mid-twenties who felt like I needed to win big through my drama, then I may have felt excited right now and also maybe a bit empty, but now that I'm in my mid-thirties, I feel more grateful that because I was able to already have those experiences, I probably am more steady. Because I appeared after so long, I am extremely grateful for the large amount of love I received. It's hard enough to meet one drama that is called "daebak", but the fact that I've had multiple opportunities makes me even wonder. I think it's really the people I work with that are amazing.
What's the style of writer Kim Eun Sook? She's like a magician of language. There were a lot of phrases that I would never use in real life, so whenever I would act and say these words with my own lips, I felt like I was living vicariously [through my character]. Mo Yeon is a character who speaks her mind, can joke well, and is clever with words. While looking over the script, there would be many moments where the words would breakthrough with great ideas, and I would think 'She's not writer KES for no reason.' Now I think I understand why she is able to create so many [word/phrase] trends.
What type of character was Kang Mo Yeon? When I first received the script, she wasn't as three-dimensional [in depth] yet. The writer met with me personally and we also drank together. In doing so, the script was changed to make her more optimistic. When I get drunk, I gain more courage so I told her my opinions more clearly and strongly. I think she considered that aspect of me in a fun way.
Female viewers in particular really liked her because she was a character who was sure of herself, In general, it seems like females liked me (laughs). It was the first for me to do a drama and be referred to as "cider" [refreshing]. I liked that she wasn't being dragged around by the male protagonist and was able to speak up for herself. These types of female characters still often become passive when they come across problems in love, but Mo Yeon was certain of her own values and style. She realistically took a while to consider and accept the fears and concerns surrounding her partner's circumstance and background. At the same time, the amount of resentment towards her grew by viewers whose hearts had been stolen Yoo Si Jin (laughs). She is loyal to her profession, realistic, loves but doesn't become consumed by it--these aspects were very charming to me. Of course, there were moments where she lacked as well (laughs).
What makes you the happiest these days? I don't really remember. I think the last thing that made me happy recently was the good response from the drama. Lately I wonder about my own feelings as I don't really feel extremely happy or feel like things are extremely hard.
Then what made you the most worried? My forgetfulness has gotten more frequent so I have to write things like my ID or passwords down. I lost that notebook so I need to find it. I tend to lose a lot of things at home.
There are actors whose faces show an anxiety over wanting to hold onto time, but you don't seem that way. When doing a drama or a photoshoot, there are lights and editing done to make you look pretty. But since aging is inevitable, I embrace it. Everyone knows my age, and I don't really see the good in just having a face that looks tight when they all know I aged. I think it's best to age naturally. Of course, since I'm an actress, I'll work hard to age as slowly as possible. I go to the dermatologist and do face masks. When I was younger, I really didn't exercise. But lately I do yoga and I avoid strong [spicy] foods. My mom always said that how you choose to feel will show on your face, and I think it's true. My attitude towards life shows in my face. Events that make you angry, frustrated, and sad are all things people come across. Instead of being a person who suffers from those experiences, its the people who endures those moments with optimism and good feelings whose faces look well.
It seems like you've become a lot more peaceful in some way in the past few years. To be honest, I don't want to mature too early. At least with my friends, I want to hear that we don't act our age and maintain a sense of innocence.
Even after you grow much older? Because my profession is an actor. Even after I become 50 or 60 years old, I think it's important to maintain a sense of innocence. When I see senior actresses with youthful characteristics, I think it's beautiful. I think it would be great if I could one day be like them.

Saw that KMS from DOTS was on a V-app bromance feature with L from Infinity, so was watching it because of my DOTS feels. The end of ep 2 was so cute because they come across one of those little toy dispensers which was a DOTS character bouncy ball dispenser, and they both cracked up. KMS really wanted to get SHK but he got SJK all three times He seemed so disappointed lol. Just thought it was adorable because it proves he's a true SHK fanboy. Honestly, I think it's great that the DOTS writers let KMS use his normal busan accent. It's really charming on him. I'm sure SHK found it really cute too ahahah
Anyways, here's the link: http://www.vlive.tv/video/8381/%EA%BD%83%EB%B8%8C%EB%A1%9C-Celebrity-Bromance-L--Minseok-EP2-Were-besties they're both so cute hahaha. Plus it's already subbed in multiple languages for international viewers!
It's been pretty slow on SHK news front besides the voting and documentary. So hope this helps It's small but it still made me giggle. heh. Thanks to all the voters too! Hope we can get her to Baeksang!!

Article on Naver about SHK narrating for the documentary. It's rising because it has a lot of comments. And they're all generally so nice. It's great to see. Some of them are actually so cute: SHK's voice is good / First time waiting to see a documentary live. / First time waiting for a narration. / An actor I grow to like more..I'm a fan of SJK but now SHK is my actor too <3 <3 makes me proud. / HK-ssi thank you! At least we get to hear your voice! ...
I think it's sweet how the fans are so excited and happy to just hear her voice. And the fact that it's for a good cause is just a plus And also, I know that in the past when she was just starting out, she had experienced criticisms about her high tone and tendency to speak too quickly. So she worked hard on her voice tone since way back. I'm happy that people now are praising her for the exact same thing that they used to critique her. And based on the voiceover she did in DOTS for the scene when she's reciting Hippocrates oath, her hard work has most definitely paid off. So many viewers, including myself, was touched by that scene. And her voice and the words only added to the emotional build-up.
Also, I'm glad that SHK has gained a lot of new fans. The comment about the SJK fan becoming a fan of SHK is so cute to me. I think it's pretty telling of not only how great SHK was in DOTS, but how fortunate she was to meet a character like KMY (and vice verse.) In the beginning of DOTS, SJK blew up in terms of media attention and credit, which was a bit frustrating because they both were so equally great. But as the drama continued, I think more viewers became not only more attached to KMY, but SHK. And in the latter emotionally heavy episodes, people couldn't help but acknowledge just how great of an actress SHK had become. Before they knew it, I think viewers had fallen for her charms and had become fans. And the more you learn about her and understand her, the more you respect and appreciate her.
Hoping for good results from the Baeksang Awards too. And that she attends! (With a handsome date ) Her red carpet dresses are always so pretty. I believe she definitely has a great chance this year. But I have to admit, all the nominees are deserving. The competition is tough, so it kind of sucks. But in another way, I see it as a great compliment to SHK to be nominated in the company of really talented actors that deserve the nominations. Baeksang is typically considered more credible for not being just a popularity contest (though every awards ceremony has had its questionable moments). I mention this because I think it's important to understand that both SHK and SJK weren't nominated just based on the crazy popularity of the drama, but based on their abilities as an actor. (PLUS, I'm really glad that the timing of DOTS broadcast allowed the cast and drama to be considered for the awards THIS year. Sometimes you have to wait a WHOLE year -.- So it's especially nice for fans of either just the drama, actors, or both since the drama and popularity is still pretty fresh.)

Congrats to SHK for the nomination!! She completely deserves it!
Her co-nominees are definite contenders too though, which makes me nervous because I would love to see SHK win. In my opinion, SHK, KHS, and RMR are probably the top 3 contenders just based on their works. Just my opinions. All 5 actresses are really solid though. This makes it so much harder! >.<
Really hope SHK wins though!
And that we see her walk the carpet with her co-star
I just want more DOTS feels. lol.
Missing the weekly dose of SHK and kdrama-crack. SIGH.
SpoilerP.S. If anyone has any good drama suggestions, feel free to PM me please. I'm always wary of starting new ones just starting to air because I hate the weekly waits. (I couldn't help it with DOTS because .. SHK & SJK...both obvious reasons ahah). But yeah, feeling a bit aimless here kdrama-wise. Nothing is really catching my eye. Urgh. It's really hard getting over a crack-kdrama. Do I have to wait until Uncontrollably Fond? (TBH, really hoping this one is good!) Or Jealousy Incarnate?? (Whenever the drama over that drama ever settles). Sigh.

YAY!
So happy to see the good news about J.Estina pulling out and admitting defeat.
http://entertain.naver.com/ranking/read?oid=311&aid=0000602054
This is an article on Naver discussing it. It's a shorter blurb than others but it's the article that is rising on the ranks and has the most comments on this topic. So that's good. I hope all the negative ones get buried. In any case, since I know so many people are curious about the knetizens reactions... For this article, it's all very supportive of SHK, and for the most part, really angry at J.Estina. In particular, they're angry at J.Estina for just dragging SHK's name through the mud again just to pull out because they know they're in the wrong. Basically, why did they even make a big fuss? They should have apologized and reflected when they were warned. They just make a mess and just leave. Who are they that they can claim an influence on Hallyu? They must be scared their market in China will be affected since it was because of SHK they were able to gain profits there. They must be scared to reveal more about the contract since it must not be in their favor. It's not like they're a rookie company.. why are their manners so bad. It goes on like that.
It's a bit frustrating that public sentiment was so generally negative/mixed towards SHK when it was just SHK/UAA vs. J.Estina. But I'm still really grateful towards NEW in this case for releasing statements which basically backed up SHK. I mentioned to @hclover96 that I hoped NEW would get involved but doubted they would because it's not an easy thing to do and the whole issue at that time was getting so messy, especially with J.Estina dragging in SHK's past unnecessarily. NEW could have just as easily decided not to get involved. But I'm glad they saw that SHK was in the right and also decided to take a stand against J.Estina. I think it was really important that they did this because not only did it place a bigger pressure on J.Estina, but it also seemed to help sway the general public opinion from just associating SHK with her past scandal, per J.Estina's dirty tactic. NEW's statements reinforced and legitimized the claims made by SHK's side. Also, it seems like once it was revealed that NEW was discussing legal action against J.Estina as well, J.Estina just finally caved.
It's always a bit scary to me how fast public sentiment can turn. I'm happy that this issue will be finally over with and that it seems everything will work out positively for SHK. But it's also a bit unnerving to think that this ugly sentiment could have just as easily been targeted towards SHK again. I'm sure she knew that going in. Her mentality is so strong.
Anyways, cheers to positive news!

So this is a link to a Dispatch article covering the lawsuit.
It basically lists a lot of J.Estina's major arguments and then refutes them. Essentially, it seems pretty understanding as to why SHK decided to speak out against the company. The netizen comments also are pretty supportive of SHK in this article, so that's nice to see I guess. And a lot of them are commenting that these are the true "facts"..
On another note, I wonder if SHK has a positive relationship with Dispatch?? Because they seem to be really positive about her lately. Not that I'm complaining.. but in general, I have a mixed opinion about Dispatch. lol. Maybe it's just me that seems to notice this?
I remember reading this in a past article about her rejection of the Mitsubishi CF deal: SHK said that she was the type to stand by what she believes is right/just, no matter what others might say. I think this is really applicable in this situation as well and that it's particularly admirable of her to speak up despite having a strong positive public opinion. She probably waited to act on this issue until the drama had completed, so as not to draw attention away from the show and the staff/cast's efforts. But it is also an issue that needs to be addressed sooner than later, especially since J.Estina was currently pushing DOTS/KMY jewelery so it is relevant. So I think it's particularly brave on her part to still act on the injustice knowing she will be facing hateful and hurtful comments, knowing that her past scandal would be brought up, knowing that her hard-earned positive image would again take a slight dip. She could have easily just turned a blind eye to this kind of thing as many other actors/actresses have in the past and just try to ride the popularity wave. But she didn't. And that speaks levels about her character in my opinion.
I also don't understand why J.Estina came out swinging so angrily and bitterly. It's like they reacted first in pure anger without really thinking. Even if they do win the lawsuit, their image will still be tarnished as a company, especially in light of the statement released by NEW and the refutes made by this Dispatch article.
I feel like this issue could have been handled a lot more quietly. Additionally, it appears legit that J.Estina had been warned by the production company several times. This also means, SHK and UAA mostly likely approached them about the issues as well, but most likely saw no real action or sincere apology. They probably just asked SHK to renew as a model to try and cover up the entire issue, but instead she refused, as she should have. I know that a lot of people seem frustrated with UAA in regards to how they're handling the situation. It's true, sometimes, I wish they didn't include certain claims, but I'm fairly certain that most of these statements are likely first approved by SHK prior to public release. UAA for the most part is really supportive of SHK and respects her individuality and independence. So in my opinion, it's not really fair to blame UAA in this situation. They are representing SHK, and she is a woman with a strong sense of self.
Let's just have faith in her as fans and hope that things work out in her favor.

@smiletall thank you for your wonderful insight. I hope you post more. I love reading your posts and I can't help but agree. I think it's a shame that SHK was portraying a blind woman in TWTWB. Their chemistry was amazeballs, imagine if Kyo was able to look at JIS too. I hope they make another drama in the future where both can have direct eye contact with each other. Thank you for your translations as well as always.
@hclover96 I agree. I'm a greedy fan too. Kyo deserves the Daesang. She and SJK both deserve it. They should have a co-Daesang. However, if only SJK wins, I'm going to flip some tables. Not because SJK does not deserve it. He deserves it as much as Kyo. He is a wonderful actor and portrayed YSJ flawlessly. He is not beneath Kyo as an actor, however, as a character, I don't think YSJ and KMY are equal in terms of depth. YSJ to me, has been the same from day 1 and throughout the series. Kang Mo Yeon on the other hand, has character development. KMY is a multidimensional character, plus the fact that DOTS wasn't filmed chronologically, imagine how emotionally difficult it will be. But Kyo nailed the character KMY and she even exceeded expectations.
@crixa aw you're too sweet And I know. As much as I loved TWTWB, I really was desperate for some eye contact between her and JIS. (Well desperate for anything really between that OTP.. but the story kind of made progress..erm.. difficult to say the least.. The angst was strong with TWTWB...lol) Of course there were moments that her blindness made the scene that much more telling because JIS would be saying one thing, but his face would be literally expressing another (goosebumps!). But in general, you could already feel the tension when they weren't looking at each other directly. If there had been eye contact during emotionally charged scenes, I'm pretty certain ratings would have been even higher than it already was. haha
I actually also just wanted to comment on your analysis of KMY and YSJ, just because I basically just wrote the same thoughts on the main DOTS thread! It's also a sentiment I expressed since the latter half of the drama lol. So I totally understand you. They both deserve daesangs. But I would feel a bigger sense of remorse if SHK was snubbed especially if you consider the trajectory of her character in the drama.

Ah, I really appreciated your thoughts about the drama! You made really good points and your tribute to all the various characters with quotes were really insightful.
I think your observation about Daniel's character was really interesting. I never considered him that way, but I can see him being drawn from the original screenplay as the story was first based on two doctors. If they had kept the storyline as two doctors, I wonder if the conflict still would have come from a clash in ideal. A doctor who works to build a career (realism) vs. a doctor who works for the sake of the people (idealism). This would have been interesting too, though possibly less action filled. (And Daniel's character is still pretty hot). OR now I also wonder if YeHwa and Daniel could have been the basis of the original storyline in a way as well. If only I could just ask the writers these questions. My speculations could be way off too.. hahaha which is nothing new.
To be honest, I still think Argus' character arc is probably one of the more wasted opportunities of DOTS. He has such a great foundation for a GOOD big bad (if that makes sense). I think it would have been great if they had explored his history a bit more and gone further with the question: what makes a good soldier go bad? How GREAT would it have been if YSJ had been presented with a similar predicament? Argus could have been made as a solid antithesis to YSJ as a character. To have YSJ face his past mentor and hero in a way that would make him question his own ideals and his duties as a soldier would have made for awesome character development that I believe YSJ as a character desperately needed and SJK as an actor really deserved. I still also think they could have extended Argus's role beyond ep 12. They still could have utilized the NK soldier. The capture and rescue of YSJ and JG would have felt much more impactful and meaningful. Ep 13-15 would also have felt more consistent with the Urk story arc if Argus had been kept in play.
And I agree. YSJ is an ideal hero. PERIOD. He is the fantasy portion of DOTS. Because no guy like this exists. Not just because he is so romantic and smooth... no guy can come back to life so immediately and nonchalantly like YSJ does. And so I definitely agree with your comment that KMY represents a more human aspect of the drama. YSJ was the fantasy viewers pined over. KMY was the character viewers could relate to and cried with. Not sure if the writers were fully aware of this aspect as they wrote the story, but it's true, KMY really is the only one of the two who goes through change and growth in terms of her belief as a doctor and her ability to accept YSJ and his staunch nationality and beliefs. Either way, I was impressed and grateful with the way KES wrote the character of KMY. It was so refreshing that both protagonists were also so straightforward.
And this is a random thought.. But occurred to me as I was rewatching some episodes. There was that past speculation/rumor based on YSJ's x-ray which showed that his heart was on the right side of his body, instead of the usual left side. As it turns out, this was probably just a fluke by the props staff and never was mentioned in the drama. BUT if I was KES, and saw that, I would be kicking myself. Because that is the exact type of twist that would have made his first "almost death" worth it even if it didn't really have any lasting meaning or worth other than spectacle in the larger scheme of the show.
Also I don't think the original cast will ever return for DOTS season 2, even if it gets off the ground. At least none of the major characters. That's just how it is. Plus both SHK and SJK are adamant in their recent interviews about trying a variety of characters and roles. I don't think that they would seriously consider reprising the same role unless the script was too good to refuse. But again, as the writer mentioned, he's pretty much done with YSJ's story--he wished YSJ a happy life. And I'm pretty much satisfied with that.
It would be best for KBS just to leave DOTS for what it is. DOTS 2 would be a new cast entirely. And pretty much sure, like IRIS 2, Dream High 2, etc. it would never live up to the hype of the original, even if the story was fairly solid. Of course the key exception is the Reply series.. but this too is a slightly different case since a large part of the Reply series is to consistently using the same writer and director (who are both talented), along with a strong play on nostalgia of the represented era. With DOTS2, I doubt they could get the same director and writers. They already seem uninterested. And the chemistry of the main OTP was just beyond expectation. It's hard to recreate that kind of chemistry. It really hooked viewers and covered for a lot of other shortcomings/plot holes to be honest. lol. So yeah, it's kind of sad to say, but I hope they don't do a second season.
Anyways, it's true this thread has slowed down a lot. But keep in mind, there is still awards season in the future haha. I really hope DOTS gets a lot of recognition, because despite its shortcomings, it still deserves a lot of credit in other aspects

So after some contemplation, I decided to post the Q&A translations I did from the HB interview with SJK here in this thread. These are just the questions and answers which he mentioned SHK. Just an FYI, I also only skimmed the article quickly since it was long and am not planning to translate the whole thing right now since it is so long and not enough time lol. I had been thinking about posting it here before, but kept it private because I had some reservations due to certain issues that were pointed out to me prior regarding my previous translations and a disregard to my request to ask for permission before taking it out of the thread.
In any case, let's try to be respectful to other people's contributions to the forum and the threads we frequent by properly crediting and asking for permission before taking things out to share. Thanks also to @hclover96 and @twtwb for listening to my concerns and for the kind words.
I also paraphrased the first two questions.. because I was lazy. That isn't the important part though, right? lol The answers are fully translated though. And these have been mostly translated by others here and there for the most part I believe. In any case, just for those who are still curious, here it is.
And per usual: Please try to keep it within this thread. Please do not to post or share the translation on other sites, including the Songhyekyozone Instagram page, unless permission is first granted and full credit is properly provided.
Anywaays, enjoy!
Q: The reporter commented on how beautiful the kisses in the drama were, especially the kiss in the truck scene.
A: It was shot in Greece and it was particularly meaningful because it was YSJ and KMY's first day [together]. But in reality, the sun was setting on-site and so we only had about an hour and a half to quickly shoot the scene. I also remember the truck being so bumpy that HK-noona and I kept bumping faces so it made things hard. I was relieved that many people liked it.
Q: The reporter mentions how the scene of YSJ going to rescue KMY after her abduction was impressive, and how it was significant because it showed KMY the line of work that YSJ does in real life. In particular, the line where he asks her "Do you want to break up with me?" made the reporter's heart flutter.. (reporter laughs).
A: For that scene, the emotions came across 5x stronger on-site with HK-noona than when I had previously just read the script [on my own]. I thought the lines would be said very steadily and calmly. But HK-noona's parts were shot first and noona cried heavily. I'm not sure if noona planned to deliver the lines in that manner, but it seemed to me that her emotions naturally became that way. Because HK-noona acted that way, my reaction likewise became stronger and I delivered the line "Do you want to break up with me?!" in that manner. To be honest, I worried that I delivered it too intensely, but I feel like it was only right to match MY's feelings. In reality, real couples would probably be like this. So when I was saying that line, I also got very emotional. "Ack! I see!"-- Kind of that feeling? In reality, if placed in that situation, saying those words, wouldn't it be sad? Just because of that kind of a reason, having to break up, it would be both frustrating and sad.
Q: I see... that's why melos seem fun. While acting, the actors can freely share emotions, and those emotions are likewise felt by the viewers.
A; That's right. I also learned a lot from HK-noona. Actors often tell each other that there are actors that only try to "take" and actors who try to "give" to their counterparts. In the begininning, HK-noona said to me "You try to give a lot" and "that's because your personality is usually like this." But after acting together, I feel like I received a lot more [in the end]. It can be really hard to act with an actor who only wants to shine alone. It's part of the job when working with people. In that sense, I felt really lucky. No matter how good the actor, there's always some uncertainty. And as I'm still an actor without many experiences, when I receive support from my colleagues, I get less scared. If I worked without knowing this aspect, I think it would be lonely.

Skimmed the HB article linked by @nataliakay in the shipper thread http://www.imagazinekorea.com/daily/dailyView.asp?no=6496
Not sure if I missed previous postings of this article in this thread.. but some thoughts...
In one of the mentions of SHK, SJK states that typically there are actors who "take" (basically thinks only about themselves) and actors who "give" (thinks about their counterparts). And that even though SHK had told him in the beginning that SJK "gives" a lot, per his usual personality, SJK said he felt like he actually had received a lot more in return.
I thought this was a very good point. Because I don't think it's just a coincidence that a lot of her male costars do receive so much attention and boost in popularity after working with her in dramas. Granted, they do usually have star power in their own right. But there are just some actors that just help their costar shine that much brighter, and SHK is a particularly good example. How or why, I'm not exactly sure. But it was particularly strong in DOTS. At least in DOTS, I think it was just how she used her eyes and looked at YSJ as KMY. Her eye expressions were so spot on in this drama. It was like she was making up for the difficulty she probably had in TWTB because she was supposed to be blind, if that makes sense. Can you imagine if she and JIS had been able to make direct eye contact in some of the scenes from TWTB?? OMG. I think it would have been even more intense... especially near the end in the cabin scene when they just go at each other and she reveals she knows everything to him. O.O Especially since JIS is known for his super intense stares.. lol.
And I'm also always really impressed when I see noticeable growth and improvement in actors. And with SHK, not only do I note both when she does a new drama, but I also can sense a strong effort to really understand her character.
Oh! I also did watch the BTS episode of DOTS and laughed when Kim Min Seok said that he thought she was a Tsundure type. I know she acted offended but I thought it was kind of an appropriate description haha. Especially when she basically had jokingly warned him a few seconds before to "do well" .. basically telling him he better say nice things or else... hahaha. Considering he's still newbie actor, he must have been super intimidated by SHK and her seniority. And SHK often gives off a very cool and chic vibe in public appearances so it's understandable. But she is the type to really care for those close to her, and you can tell just how much she came to enjoy and appreciate her costars, which is probably why people who work with her tend to really praise her. When she said in her PC interviews that the thing she really gained from DOTS was "people", I thought it was very telling. More than fame and improved public recognition, she was most appreciative of her colleagues and the opportunity to act more. So respectable and humble.

Ah thanks for all the updates on her interviews
Personally, I am also glad she didn't sign on to participate in the movie. It didn't seem like a good fit to me. But even so, I know if the role that was offered to her was really appealing to SHK, she would have still accepted. The fact that she did not must mean she wasn't satisfied. Based on what she's recently said, I think she seems to be carefully contemplating her next project. Especially if she thought at one point that DOTS was possibly going to be her last project, I can understand why she would be cautious.DOTS came at a very important moment in her career, so it probably means that much more to her. It not only proved her worth as an actress, but the success of the drama most likely opened more opportunities for her that she maybe thought were closed. So in that sense, she seems the most grateful.
And I agree with a lot of the previous comments. Her humbleness and modesty is just so apparent.
As much as I would love to know her next project, I also think it's fine that she takes her time. It's apparent that she has a passion for acting, and as long as she continues to get opportunities and receives projects she is interested in, she will continue to work hard. I think now is also a time where she's probably reassessing aspects of her life. She must have been going through a lot more hardship than people were aware of if she actually thought DOTS was her last project. And then, with the sudden booming success of the drama and all the love she is receiving from the public, I can understand how she can feel both relieved, grateful, and sorry to her fans. I think she is processing a lot of thoughts right now and also going through a lot of project offers. So I guess we just need to be patient.
I do wish she would do at least a magazine photoshoot or a new CF. hahaha just as a fan.
And definitely, I do think she deserves a Daesang. I know SJK was also great, but I also don't want SHK to get snubbed by KBS in lieu of his crazy popularity. They both really deserve it. But I fear she might be overshadowed :/ Anyways, KBS, you better not overlook her and give her a consolation award. Neither could have shined without the other. I usually am not for splitting awards, but this would be one case where I would totally be fine with co-Daesangs, but only if it went to these two.

@smiletall thanks for your translation. May I ask you or @MasY one question about her name in English?
Most of the time I see people write her name as "Song Hye Kyo". But many Korean newspapers when they translated her names into English they wrote "Song Hye-kyo". And blogs like dramabeans use "Song Hye-gyo". So may I know what is the most correct one to address her in English? And does her name have any meaning? And what is the most formal way to address her? "Ms Song"?
I realize that I am her fans but I even have questions about her name. Sorry for asking you such basic questions but you know Korean, so I think you are the best persons to ask.
Thanks in advance.
Ah, I never thought of this. hahaha
So in terms of pronunciation and phonetics, Song Hye Gyo is actually more accurate to the characters of her Korean name. I'm aware that the main people in charge of Dramabeans are fluent in Korean. So they have always been really credible in their articles and really accurate on these kind of things. So I'm not surprised they would prefer to use this spelling of her name.
But I've always seen her name translated as Song Hye Kyo, so that is what I've always used. I think it is also the default English spelling of her name used by the general public. If you type her name as either way in Google search, her profile information etc. pops up as Song Hye Kyo. (Also, just personally, Song Hye Kyo just looks more esthetically pleasing than Song Hye Gyo. haha. I don't know why.)
I'm not sure of the meaning of her name.. Usually many Korean names are derived from Chinese characters, known as Hanja in Korean. And I'm not familiar with it, although it's basic knowledge in Korea. Plus, sometimes the character might sound the same in Korean, but have a different associated Chinese character or word it was derived from, so the meaning would be different depending on the type of character used. So sometimes to know the true meaning of a Korean name, you really need to see their Korean name written in the Chinese characters. (OR just look it up online since someone else might know lol. Maybe someone else here knows?). Not sure if that was any help... Just dropping some knowledge I know. ahaha.
In terms of addressing her, do you mean when speaking Korean? I'm assuming you mean in Korean.
So, when I translate, there are moments when I add -ssi (pronounced like "she" but typically phonetically written as -ssi) to the end of the names. This is a formal way of addressing people in Korea. It is equivalent to Mr./Ms. in English.
Song Hye Kyo-ssi is more acceptable than Ms. Song. It may seem weird, but I think it's a more cultural type of thing. "Ms. Song" "Ms. Kim" is sometimes literally said the way it sounds in English, but often used as a nickname for a coworker you are familiar with. Additionally, because there are so many people in Korea with the same surname, it would probably be considered disrespectful to address someone of respect or a stranger as just Ms. Song or Mr. Kim. (Side note: A good example of this and very funny story often told on talk shows by Henry, a Chinese Canadian member of Super Jr., is that when he first met Lee Soo Man, the founder of SM Ent., he greeted him as Mr. Lee. When he tells this story, typically the reaction of the guests are surprised dumbfounded laughter because you could only get away from that situation still looking good as a foreigner.)
So yeah, when I translate, I just keep the original Korean style form of address (Song Hye Kyo-ssi) because to me it just sounds more natural in the article itself. But, if you do translate everything over to more proper English, it would be Ms. Song or Ms. Song Hye Kyo, as often seen in more officially translated articles. Although techincally, then, it should be Ms. Hye Kyo Song, right? But that sounds even more awkward lol.
And here ends today's lesson about the Korean language via Song Hye Kyo.
Not sure how helpful it was. But hope it was at least a bit interesting lol.

Spoiler
No I totally get it. It's really hard not spazz over the two. So I understand. I'm the same way. I have to remind myself to Keep. My. Feels. In. Check. haha. And I don't think you're the type to overreact in a bad way at all. So I hope there was no misunderstanding. It was just a generalized observation. There are just responses I've seen that definitely make me want to take a one or two steps backwards is all ahahaha. And yep, she definitely could be more blunt or better at avoiding the topic, but she isn't. So hope remains afloat. *thumbs up*
And I agree. I'm happy she's enjoying some time off and taking a breather while she considers her next project. In general, I think she's in a really happy place in her life right now, whether it's career or personal, and it clearly shows. And her fans are clearly excited for her since it's been a really long time since she's appeared this content. So whatever the reason, I'm glad for her.
Hoping for some more interviews/photoshoots! I feel like once she decides her next project, especially if it's in China, getting any updates will be hard as she'll go into stealth mode again for a while. So really crossing my fingers for a bit more activities in Korea before then. >.<

@utkim just my thoughts
SpoilerYeah, I think you're referring to the portion of the article that mentions how SJK reached out to meet with SHK. To be quite honest, I was wary about translating that portion of the article because I know how some strong shippers might react. I do ship them secretly (or I guess not so secretly lol), but I also don't want to add to more excessive speculation or over-reaction for their sake. However, I'm pretty certain I translated correctly. But also, that portion of the report was what the reporter wrote and not a direct quote from SHK, so readers can take from it what they will I suppose. In any case, I seriously doubt that they or their staff literally just bumped into each other coincidentally in NY. Most likely, SJK may have been in NY or knew he would be going, and had heard that she likewise happened to be there on vacation and reached out. Whether there was more meaning in that action or not, who knows. lol. But I do respect SHK for straight up just answering those questions. She could have just as easily chosen to not answer them. But more telling to me, she makes it obvious that she is aware of what rumors and speculations are being thrown around by fans, so it also makes me wonder just how wary she is of them too.

Decided to post this here as well since I also translated Q&A for SJK. It only seems fair. And I really do enjoy this thread The content is quite similar to previously translated articles and Q&A's provided. Just a heads up.
Waiting for Friday's episode!
Again, please properly credit ALL translations posted. And keep this one within this thread unless given permission.
Here is the Q&A transcript portion from a Naver article:
Q: What have you been up to since the drama ended?
Because the drama ended so well, I've been very happy. Even though the drama did well, I'm not actually as busy as I thought I would be.
Q: What was it like acting together with SJK?
SJK-ssi gained a lot of female fans through this drama. It's something to congratulate. When I first read the script, it was fun but I also thought the male protagonist needs to do well in order for the drama to succeed. It was that important, and thankfully SJK-ssi did that difficult thing to do. (t/n: Pretty sure she's making a joke by referring back to YSJ's famous words lol.) He acted so well that even my own heart fluttered when acting with him, so that's probably why the response was so good.
Q; Any particular acting secret for [good] chemistry in melodramas?
It's not based on my strength alone. For each case, there was good teamwork with my co-star. The staff also helped create a good environment and so I think there was a likewise positive response.
Q: Thoughts on the rapid plot development?
Because it was a pre-produced project, I never felt that the the story plot was developing quickly when acting. After it was aired, there were viewers who were happy with it and others who considered it negatively. I was happy with the results. I think it's because it is a drama that it could turn out that way. It's because it's a fantasy drama that I'm satisfied with the results.
Q: Would you date a man like YSJ in real life?
I think I would be scared if I were to date a man like YSJ in real life. The power of his love would have to be strong enough to overcome [that fear] in order to instill enough trust in me. In the first half of the drama, many viewers couldn't understand why KMY couldn't accept a guy who was chasing after her so much. In the latter half, [they said] it was good that she finally opened her heart to him when under more dire circumstances. In reality, if it was that kind of a guy, I would be similar to KMY and consider a lot of things before starting anything.
Q: Any scene that made your heart flutter?.
Personally, the scene that made my heart flutter was "Should I confess? Or should I apologize?." It made me shiver. In that scene [SJK] acted well and his voice sounded good as well.
Q: SJK-ssi quickly became a Hallyu star. Thoughts?
Everyone seems to know that SJK-ssi is nice, sincere, and well-mannered, even if I don't say it myself. This drama took about 6 months to film. When there are many difficult scenes to film, like the earthquake scenario, it's normal to become frustrated/annoyed. But JK-ssi was the same from the beginning to the end. I felt like I had a lot to learn from him even though he is younger. Also, despite the fact that he probably had a lot to do himself, he was also taking caring of even the youngest staff members, which was nice (t/n: she literally says 'pretty') to see. I think he's a rare actor to see/come across. We also supported each other a lot. As a male lead actor, he fulfilled the the role perfectly. He's a very cool friend.
Q: [KMY] has a girl-crush feel to her. How was it acting [as KMY]?
People thought I was acting stingy or prudish, but I thought it was closer to being more manly (t/n: can also be interpreted like a tom-boy). I think that's why I had a lot of female fans. I was told I spoke in a manly way. So I was very satisfied with acting as KMY. I had to think of my image and still had to hold down a bit in comparison to my own personality, but it was fun to act as KMY.
Q: There were a lot of cringe-worthy lines. Thoughts?
As a woman I didn't think there were many lines that were really cringe-worthy, but many people felt that way. There was one in particular. "A beauty, a doll." (T/n: During the scene when YSJ asks about KMY's blood-type.) It was hard to say that line. I thought I was going to die. I think if I had been in my 20s, I would have confidently said it, but since I'm not, I worried a lot more about those scenes than the emotional ones. There are so many pretty actresses in their 20s, I wonder what they will think when watching this scene. I cringed a bit when I said I was a doll.
Q: What is it like to live as SHK?
I think it's the same. I had a lot of friends since I was young. So many friends, it was sometimes hard to handle. But as I grew older, my social circle got smaller. It was a natural result since I had to be cautious all the time. But I'm still the same. When it's hard, they cry with me. When it's stressful, we drink wine or travel. When I'm frustrated, I get angry at people. The only difference is that I'm a celebrity, but other than that, I'm the same as other women my age.
Q: Recently you've received attention for rejecting a Japanese advertisement offer and promoting Korean brochures. We'd like to hear about your values/thoughts.
I believe that anyone in the same circumstances would have refused the advertisement offer. Also, it's been a while since I've worked with Prof. Seo Kyung Deok on the Korean brochures. Since I was young, when I would go abroad, there would be Japanese, Chinese, and all other languages available at museums, but only Korean was excluded. By coincidence, I came to know Prof. SKD and told him about my experience. It was from then that we started working together. There is still a lot for me learn. I also don't know everything about our nation's history, and continue to learn as I go. In the future I will continue to go forward doing what I believe is right/just despite what other may say.
Q: What are your honest thoughts on the dating rumors with SJK?
It's true we had a lot of meals together. I think it blew up because of NY, but it's a place I coincidentally see a lot of people. Aside from JK-ssi, I met a lot of other people. We worked together on a project for 6 months. I also think the scandal blew up because of the couple bracelet, but mine was a hair tie. It was those kinds of things that made it seem like something, but now everyone knows (laughs). Also, I want to thank Yoo Ah In for making a cameo in a short scene despite how busy he is. Starting with Kwang-soo in the beginning and finishing with Ah-In in the end, thank you so much.
Q: Future plans?
I want to greet viewers through diverse characters. There isn't as much diversity in roles available to female actresses in comparison male actors. So if I had a wish, it would be that more diverse characters and genres emerged for actresses.

Here's one article that I like and that made me feel for her. The content is pretty similar to the other ones posted previously, but I thought it was interesting that she thought at one point it might be her last drama. It just shows how much pressure she must have been feeling for this project to succeed, especially considering her recent hardships. And her wish to constantly improve on acting and challenge new roles is still so consistent. Really respect her for these aspects.
Again, please properly credit ALL translations and keep within this thread unless given permission.
Song Hye Kyo: "I thought 'Descendants of the Sun' could be my last project...Just grateful."
"'Descendants of the Sun' is a drama I worked on in 3 years since 'That Winter the Wind Blows' in 2013. In that time, there has been big and small issues, and as such, this project has meant that much more to me. At some point, I thought that this project could be my last and so worked really hard. Due to the positive result, I am happy but also a part of me is sorry."
[...] (t/n: just excluded the typical intro stuff)
SHK stated that "In just considering the results, 'Descendants of the Sun' was itself an opportunity, but also an opportunity for another/next project," expressing that "It's a project just to be grateful for."
From 'Autumn in My Heart' to 'Full House' she has gained popularity and has been promoting for a long time as a Hallyu star. "It's not just me. It's due to the work of many actors. When one person's popularity goes down, another actor emerges, and then another, so it has been well-maintained." Saying "It's an honor and makes me happy to be considered Hallyu with other Korean actors," she expressed a humble side. She also recently went to Hong Kong with SJK to promote 'Descendants of the Sun.'
After filming completed in December, SHK watched the broadcast mostly at home and said "I was only able to read about the popularity, but when I went to Hong Kong, I realized just how amazing it was." Stating "The fact that an actor I acted with became a Hally star, I feel like a proud mom," she laughed brightly.
After the drama ended and before the broadcast began, her meeting with SJK caused a scandal, to which SHK stated "It's true we had a meal together." She continued "People seem to consider it a bit differently because we met up in NY, but aside from SJK-ssi, I met a lot of other people."
While taking a break in NY, she received word from SJK who had come to NY. She said "He's a colleague with whom I worked on a project for 6 months. Just because of a fear of a scandal, it seemed laughable to say 'Let's not meet. Let's see each other in Korea'." She continued, "There was also talk of a couple bracelet but it's just a hair-tie."
When asked about her personal goals as an actor, she revealed that it was "To improve from the previous project."
SHK said "I want to hear that my acting improved from the last project, that it became deeper." She continued "More than how big or how well I do, my goal is to continue improving myself from where I stand, and I believe good things will follow."
SHK stated that she wants to challenge diverse characters and genres, but she hasn't come across a good project yet. "I believe that there aren't enough projects with diverse genres or female characters that allow actresses to show new and different sides to them." She continued, "To people making movies or dramas, I hope this will encourage them." and expressed her wishes.source: http://entertain.naver.com/read?oid=001&aid=0008347532&gid=999339&cid=1015727

[Drama 2018-2019] Encounter / Boyfriend, 남자친구
in k-dramas & movies
Posted
Yay for strong ratings!
I've been noticing that most of the articles and comments on naver are focusing on PBG and how adorable he is (and I agree!). But I just wanted to show SHK some additional love and share this article I came across (it was like a sub-featured article) while browsing naver. It was translated by me, so I apologize if it's not perfect. It also has a nice little character analysis of CSH which I appreciated. I also included some of the comments left by readers below.
https://m.entertain.naver.com/read?oid=076&aid=0003354828&cluid=enter_201812062320_00000008

Daebak!"
