  1. @nrllee, thanks for the review link, I appreciate reading it, and looking forward to her next reviews :)

I noticed that you guys are wondering who is SK's body double for ballet. He is ballerino Kim Myung-yoon, and this is his instagram account.

    https://www.instagram.com/free_yun93_/

Unfortunately I can't find any youtube video of his performance. but there's practice video, and photos with SK.

  2. Song Kang's agency Namoo Studio YouTube content for SK Navillera, focused on SK's Ballet scenes.

Title is "Meeting pretty funny ballerino, Song Kang/Namoo Theatre"

They styled it similarly with KR human documentary show called "Human Theatre" - or "Screening Humanity" by wiki - Namoo makes this type of videos for their actors/actresses. I remember seeing similar one for Lee Jun-Ki.

After watching this - and other variety show called Michuri - he is a cute introvert with strange sense of humor. :glasses: I hope he stays this way and don't lose his innocence.

Also, I like their OSTs. In most occasions, they are using musics all right. Not too much, not too less, just right. Here is the list of OSTs I found in youtube. Listing only official sources for now.

    "My Day" by Taemin

    "Butterfly" by Kim Kooh Heon(B.O.Y)

    "Beautiful Words" by Sohyang

"End of the Sea" by Choi Baek-Ho - Used at the end of Episode 7

  3. Cried so much again. Dementia is scary, to watch someone I know being lost right in front of our eyes. Fear that I'll lose my mind surely in the future, really what we can do to prepare that I don't really know, just like Deukchul said.

Chaerok is a sweet kid, who tries to protect haraboji, following him home and quietly urging him to find the right path. :'(  Also, Chaerok's last dance scene was beautiful. I wondered how they're going to do dance scene in webtoon, they changed rain to snow due to season but it's still very wonderful, more so in the drama that this was CR's desperate effort to bring back DC's mind.

Now that only 4 episodes left, things are moving so fast! I guess we will see Dad coming back to Seoul to care CR, and things will happen between CR's dad, CR and HB. And looking at episode 9 preview, CR's going to do something he'll regret again, and maybe Seungjoo too.

Here is the episode 9 preview.

Here is the making clip for episode 7 and 8.

SK is a precious 28 month baby who loves to feed cutesy animals and drink banana milk. How could he be this cute!

  4. Everything went so well - or as good as it could - in episode 7, until the last scene. I loved Ki Seungjoo and Chaerok's moment and their relationship. It's such a wholesome relationship and Ki is a teacher anyone wishes to have in life. CR wanted to do competition more so because he told his dad, I hope to see Dad supporting CR's decision in later episode.

CR practicing ballet in the studio was beautiful. If I can make it, I would love to play the scene forever. SK is a beauty and director knows how to show it. And every ballet scene is done beautiful in this drama.

At the last scene, I knew it was coming but I still cried a bucket. PIH is a great actor. :'( And when we're desperate we still need mom and dad.

Tomorrow's episode is going to be emotional again. and @rocher22, the scene is coming! Episode 8 preview has part of it. In the webtoon CR danced under the rain, in the drama it seems that CR will dance under the snow.

    Episode 8 Text Preview

Accidentally reading Deukchul's note, Chaerok can't believe it and run to Deukchul's home!.... Stumbles on Sungkwan's birthday party and is invited. He hesitates whether to let family know Deukchul's secret or not....

@mistymorningIm glad the drama is a little different from the webtoon.

So HB isnt just a bully otherwise it would be boring.

Im a little disappointed when HB hit CRs friend. Especially he didnt do it alone.

    That was childish.

Dramatization changed things here and there and one of them is HB's story. I agree that HB as a character is more interesting in the drama, I wonder how they're going to redeem him. CR and Haraboji tried to give him a helping hand - CR saying it's not too late... Haraboji's talk after the accident. Hopefully they show the story in fresh way. And in webtoon, there's a scene of CR that left HB deep impression, I hope they include that scene in the drama. It was a really beautiful scene!

About HB beating SJ, yeah, I saw that coming. HB is at the bottom now and already beat CR before his fall. But I found SJ and CR caring for each other so cute - SJ tried to beat HB for CR and CR treating SJ's injuries - and feel really nice CR still have a good friend like SJ in his life. Left me feel so warm :)

I dont like how CRs father punished those boys. But it seems to be an acceptable way of training.

Clearly, this left a deep mark on HB.

Ho Beom, its time to move on.

Corporal punishment have been banished from Korea's school system on 2012, but I think sports team had this as persistent issue. It is distasteful and I hope there's more story to it than just part of training.

Original webtoon doesn't have this storyline(beating and CR's dad in prison). Hobum doesn't have much back story in webtoon other than being sort of bully to Chaerock. This story does make Hobum's character more interesting in the drama, and I am glad CR's fall was accident instead of purposeful action. Not saying beating is better, because that was definitely HB's intention, but breaking a leg is definitely worse. :( I noticed that CR seems to avoid accusing HB, maybe they were close friends before?

And Kim Kwon is a hottie! He's 31 years old and still look very young. Watching his angsty image on drama, both SK and KK is funny and soft souls in making clip. Hope they restore their friendship soon. :)

  7. Didn't see these making clips are posted here. If they were, let me know so I'll delete this post.

    Making (Behind the scenes) 1

    1. Song Kang learned Pilates for leg split.

    2. Song Kang and Hong SeungHee talking about breads. Apparently the place is known for it. SK got very happy when staff said he's allowed to have one for himself.

    3. when staff said they'll use stand-in for the haraboji's testing scene, Park InWhan saying he can do that and showing pose.

    4. Haraboji's really good at billiards.

    Making 2

    1. haraboji's billiard scene. Apparently he played a lot when he was young. When he didn't have money he put up his wrist watch to play! So cute.

    2. Song Kang and Kim Gwon talking about food. I guess both of them are on diet so less sodium and protein only but yearning for salty/sweet/starchy foods.

    3. SK was laughing about his helmet look. Helmet is too big for him.

    4. Famous scene of haraboji/hamoni and sung san. Na MoonHee was deep in emotion!

    5. Haraboji's favorite color is purple, not orange! :)

    6. SK having fun.

    7. Teacher couple having fun with old music, if you know this music that shows your age.

    8. The morning scene ( when CR didn't receive morning call from DC). Director is saying there's only 1 milk and to buy another, it's 1 hour drive. Pressuring SK to do well and he did.

    Making 3

    1. They keep practicing ballets every time every where. Can I say I love SK's white tee shirt look?

    2. I love that SK's trying to show best lines. he's moving backward in pose to check mirror.

    3. SK's eating prop food appreciating the taste ;).

    4. SK's so cute when he's with haraboji and halmoni. And they also seem to treat SK like their grandson. ;)

    5. I love Sejong and CR's friendship. :) Director said they both look like dongnaebuk(translated, as town drum, meaning sandbag for everybody. )

    6. Director having fun with SK on wheelchair. SK is so cute, making sure director is not playing another joke on him before sitting.

    7. Another of my favorite scene, haraboji encouraging CR when he's down. I hope I can be someone like him when I get old.

Also, reaction clip for Navillera, from Universal Ballet principal dancers. (Universal Ballet is one of the 4 professional  ballet company in Korea).  They determined drama or real for scenes in the drama. :)

No English subtitle unfortunately, I tried to summarize here.

    1. Solo practice in the dark - Drama.

He's saying then it'll be embarrassing when found he was practicing in the dark.

    2. Group practicing

Real. They do practice a lot. Also when there's no practice they fit their toe shoes themselves.

In their ballet company, teacher is more into practice than in the drama. Apparently current general director Moon is dancing with them.

    3. Practice scene of SK - Real in the sense that when things are not getting well, dancers are also frustrated.

    4. Ballet audition scene - those cute shoes are real:). It warms their feets. It has gotten popular since 10 years ago.

Audition scene, she's saying they don't wear skirts to show lines better.

    5. Number 5, shoulder's down. - Real. He got the exact same direction today.

    6. Haraboji's test scene - Drama. It's too long, he may pull the muscle. Although 70 is not real, there is 1967 born ballerino in Korea.

    7. Ballet practice etiquettes

CR and Sangsoo's verbal fight - will get reprimanded if they do it in front of the teacher.

Leaning on piano is not allowed, even for a teacher.

       No talk about injury.

    8. Ballet show - Both dancers are well known. And scene is so well done, showing viewpoint from dancers.

No standing ovation in real show in Korea, but they're saying they like to see standing ovation in real show and hope ballet gets more popular and familiar thru this drama.

  8. This is lovely drama! I have been following Song Kang's dramas after I watched Love Alarm, and he has been showing continuous growth in each of his work. He may not be perfect at the moment - but who would be in their early works! - he's growing well and he already has special presence in each work.

Navillera is such a happy little warm drama with lovely characters. I only read webtoon halfway thru but so far drama's well made and kept the essence of original. I can't wait for the next Monday!

BoxOffice result is great. Over 1M tickets sold for 3 days since the release.

    article src:https://news.maxmovie.com/414150/

    20200117_m_yej_1000002.jpg

Since the release, this movie has been 1st spot in the box office. The break-even point for this movie is about 5M, hopefully it'll go over that and possibly even more.

Full GV video on Jan 23rd with Kim Gura.

Some points told in this GV. Marked with * is my addition, not from this GV. Any mistake is because I'm scatter brained.

    1. In the movie, 2 chiefs ( roles by PDW and LBH ) are described as friends. In history, they are more of senior junior relationship from army. It was changed to show similarity between 2. * Adding that there are some changes and fictional choices added to known facts, so this is movie and not documentary. *

    2. Kim Gura called BH god of acting and asked whether the acting got easier for him. BH got really bashful, and thou he appreciated the compliment, acting is still so hard for him, a challenge to guess about character.

    3. There are several movie/dramas on this event and period of time. This time LSM and president Park doesn't look so alike. So LSM tried to investigate Park's gestures and such. * Also I heard that they added artificial ears too *

    4. One of the q asked that there were a lot of scenes where BH pushed his hair back, whether it's intended, adlib, etc. BH said because he was portraying a real person so he researched in to the real scenes left including court scene after the assassination, where KJG was unkempt , messy hair and a bit neurotic. Because he was a soldier and kept very clean look before that, BH tried to pull this image into this movie to describe this character better.

    5.

    Spoiler

One of the mystery of the history is that KJG went to Korean Army Headquarter  instead of KCIA headquater. He got arrested in the army headquarter and ultimately got death sentence. I guess it was talked about but actually going there wasn't showed in the movie and neither the reason for that decision, because KCIA headquarter is power base for KJG. Q asked why , and Dir and BH said they want to leave mystery as mystery.

    6. Last Q was the scene where they think the hardest or the most liked. LSM said the scene he liked the most is where he had to hit BH's head with a magazine. This could be dangerous and he was worried and cautious. He was able to hit the right part of BH's forehead and it dropped at the right place in one go, so he was so glad.

WMH liked the scene BH's character sneaking into security house, it was long take ( camera was far ) and can't even see the actor's face but the body, posture and act showed the character's emotional status. LSM said he heard that BH got over the wall in one go, wondered how fit BH is to be able to do it. BH said in reality it was hard so he groaned when he did it, the sound caught by his body mic. WMH actually liked the sound during the monitor.

BH liked the helicopter scene with Gwak(Lee HeeJun). Apparently they laughed a lot and it was fun.

PDW liked the last scene where he died. He thought ah, his dying act(with the tip of his foot) was great.

  10. They had a preview recently, reviews from press and people are so great. Really so far I can get from usual movie review site and all, most of them like this movie. They're saying WMH hit farther than the Inside men. This move comes out very dry, editing got much better than the last closed viewing.

This review clip is in english, with a US professor who lived in Korea during 60-70s. He's providing some background information for this movie.

Honestly I am so excited about this movie. Can't wait to watch it. (Jan-22 is the release date set in Korea)

  15. BH also shared his photo from Star Chair event.

Also, @rubie and @2handsintertwined I think somebody asked about his instagram and SNS in the event, and about that arena dance clip(which are being called dark history). From posted part(in BH dc gallery), he said he doesn't think that is it is dark history at all... and he wouldn't have done it in the fan meeting if he thought it would be considered dark. There are actually funnier clips but he doesn't share it to keep people from laughing watching his serious movies. When he posts on instagram, he wants people to see his posts and smiles, even for a short time.

Fan posted personal clip made in youtube. Please enjoy!

  16.

There was a filming session of commentary for Mr. Sunshine Blu-ray last weekend. Director KEB, writer KES, and all the main casts( LBH, KTR, KMJ, YYS, and BYH ) were there. BH uploaded the photo to his instagram.

This will be included in Mr. Sunshine Blu-ray, and now we just need to wait. (I can't wait to watch what they are talking about here! ) Just FYI,  snacks and gifts were fan support (from http://cafe.daum.net/MrSunshineBD and Mr Sunshine dc gallery), prepared by Blu-ray support team.

@rubie! Thank you for posting those photos and link it to date! I love his Instagram posts, to me, it's a nice mix of recent and old photos and news. And he's interacting(sort of) with his fans, which is great change comparing old days. I think he said he didn't want to appear too much on talk show because an actor needs to be able to become a character to audience and his private self being known too much would hinder that, which theory I could agree, basically. But being as a shallow fan as I am, I am glad to see snapshot of his life and happy he's doing just that! And knowing he is a silly person who loves to joke doesn't hinder this fan from enjoying his serious works, not at all. So Byunghun oppa, post long and post often!

  18. BH's new event. From his instagram

Lotte Cultureworks is having an event called "Star Chair", a series of fundraising events for inviting actors/actresses for their favorite movies. All sales will go to local walfare group, and in addition to that, one chair in the theater will get a special cover and sales on that chair will be donated for 1 year.

BH's been invited for 1st event, with his life time favorite movie "Cinema Paradiso"(1998, director Giuseppe Tornatore). This event will be held on Feb. 10th(Sun), 10 AM(GV after movie), in Lotte Cinema Sungnam Central(Shinheung station) -I guess the threater is picked because BH grew up there. there's tag under the location, saying "Sungnam, where actor Lee Byung-Hun grew with dream" -. Seems that he will have a talk with audience after the movie.

Ticketing will start on Feb-1st Friday 11 AM(Korean Local Time). It seems to be very nice event and great cause to join in with BH. :)

  20. Here is nice mention of BH in latest article from,

Cine21 Article on "Chiefs of Namsan" , Director WMH interview.

    15_13_09__5c3c28750446e_2019011613151306

"I thought that my movie career may end after this film. But I still did it." Continuing the streak of <Inside men>(2015) and <Drug King>(2018), Director Woo Minho again puts his hand on bigger accusation report of modern history. <Chiefs of Namsan> is an espionage thriller based on Kim Choong Sik's novel with same name, about Korean Central Intelligence Agency(KCIA) ‘s ‘Mafia like’ intelligence activities and secret stories and histories during the president Park Junghee’s 18 years of reign. This film will study the realities of 1970’s reign of terror closely, focusing on Kim Gyupyung(Lee Byung-hun) and Park Yonggak(Gwak Dowon) who shot the president Park(Lee Sungmin) who was at the top of the power. “I cannot ignore my feelings that the current issues have roots in parent’s time of 1970s.” In the middle of shooting which was cranked in Oct. last year, director WMH is working on this with the resolution that “this is the end of accusation series”. “If I filmed <Drug Kin> with fun, now I’m holding out day after day, with doubts. We met director WMH on thin ice, in the center of set.

    -    Getting close to 1970’s reign of fear based on original novel with same name.
I read original novel <Chiefs of Namsan> when I was in college. Writer Kim Choongsik published serial report articles he did in <Donga newspaper> during 90s under president “Noh Taewoo”. Original novel was a bestseller back then, sold 520K copies, and this represents the text for modern/present political history of Korea. Among Japanese journalists this is the book that should be read before coming to Korea. I wanted to do this because it was really movie worthy story as well as major historical event but afraid to do so. After I was done with <Inside men>, I thought of doing this again.

    -    Why do you wanted to do this movie for so long, and what’s the main focus of the story?
Central Intelligence Agency was the center of 1970s dictatorship government after October restoration. Because of that power, things were eventually lead to the final collapse. To Oct 26th(*translator note: this is the day President Park was shot). I’m describing 40 days before the event. What happened during that 40 days that result to the final end. I wanted to make a movie focused on events, not on characters. <Drug King> was formed on characters without big events, this movie is closer to <Inside men>. <Drug King> described 10 years, physical time in this movie is much shorter. So things will move faster, and how to liven up the tension is the issue.

    -    This reminds us the movie <The president’s last bang> by director Lim Sangsoo, dealing with same time and assassination of the man in power.
<The president’s last bang> doesn’t put emphasis on the event. Rather than focusing on why Kim Jaegyu shot Park Jung hee, and their emotions, it was more of black comedy drawing messy status of nation and pathetic men. My movie focuses on why so it’ll have different tones. I’m centering what is the characteristic of power, and why they behaved that way.

    -    How did you interpret main characters “Chiefs of namsan” who were parasites of fear mongering politics and abandoned at the end.

Park Junghee didn’t even trust KCIA who is the closest aids. Chiefs were the 2nd in power and this is the story of them, but they were all discarded in the end. Those who were at the center of the power but didn’t really have any power. Even Park Junghee, who was at the top of the power for 18 years, thought to be enjoying it and trying to hold on to it, but he missed the chance to step down and got the wretched end, as the power dictated. Power is always there, and there will be another faction who wants it. We thought it is where the major power is, but in reality, it may not be anything, just empty space. They were just servants of the power and it’s the power which moved.

    -    Chief Kim Gyupyung is interesting character with complexities, who was the closest aide to president Park but become a shooter who killed the president. You’re working again with Lee Byunghun after <Inside men>

This is a role that needs to foreshadow future events and to show complex mindsets thru minimal lines. And also needs to present even the smallest things with detail. I can’t think of anyone else can do it, if Lee Byunghun doesn’t do this role, so I didn’t send script to any other actor. After <Inside men> I told him I bought the right for movie for original novel and wanted to do it together. Back then it was under president Park Geunhye(* translator note: president Park Junghee’s daughter), and this scenario deals with subject matters anyone rarely want to jump on but he gave me ok.

    -    This is dramatized movie, but reminds us the ties with actual people.
Not for all characters but some are modeled with real people in mind. Lee Byung hun has some points that remind us some of Kim Jaegyu, Lee Heejoon, the role of Gawk( which could be Cha JiChul) gained weight for the role. The actor who reminds us president Jeon shaved his head, and I think it’s fun try for outside appearance. The name “President Park” is the only one that’s real, everyone else uses different name and not real name.

    -    Actors from <Drug King>, Lee Sungmin, Lee Heejoon and Kim Sojin appears again in this movie.
Actor Lee Sungmin only has short scene in <Drug King> but in this movie he’ll have more presence as President Park. I managed to persuade him (laughing) for the role. Actor Lee Heejoon and actress Kim Sojin from <Drug King> will have bigger roles in this movie. They’ll show how main characters like chief Kim, president Park, security chief Gwak, chief Park and Debora Shim go against each other and struggles thru their superb acting.

Synopsis. In 1970s Washington DC, U.S. It is in the middle of hearing titled “Korea gate” on Korean lobbyists and US senates who’s in suspicion for being lobbied. Then, Korea was under the power of KCIA which was above national assembly, political parties, Constitution, militaries or police, and dictator “president Park” who controlled the KCIA. It was the time of terror that if you were against the changes in Constitution, you were considered against the power and discarded. Former KCIA chief Park Yonggak(Gawk Dowon) with the secret of the power and under constant threat of death, decided to seek asylum in US. Another 1970s story after <Drug King> Drug king put light upon the year of 1972 and 10 years afterward, this movie will show later 1970s.  How to differentiate. Woo Minho said “Even though it’s the same 1970s, this movie’s tone will be much different from <Drug King>”. Less glamor and more of even tone concept. Filming and art in production will be minimal to put focus on acting. “Referring movies of Jean-Pierre Melville”, will present mystery spy story of cold noir with assassination subject. While <Drug King> showed us various images from Korea in 1970s, this time movie will have scenes between the Blue house, KCIA building and safe house. And scenery of Washington DC and Paris of 1970s, where the assassination will take place, will be something to look forward to.

  21. Thank you @peonie, haha, it just happened that GBW is my first movie of BH to become a fan. - Before I only knew him from Tomorrow Love. And then I watched A bittersweet life, and that was it for me. :D And all GBW commentary/interview is really fun to listen, you can feel that they suffered a lot but together they had lots of fun. The DVD commentary is a must listen.

Here is nice mention of BH in latest article from, in red color,

Cine21 Article on "Chiefs of Namsan" , Director WMH interview. translation is by me.

“If I filmed <Drug King> with fun, now I’m holding out day after day, with doubts." We met director WMH on thin ice, in the center of set.

I wanted to do this because it was really a movie worthy story as well as a major historical event but afraid to do so. After I was done with <Inside men>, I thought of doing this again.

    -    Why do you wanted to do this movie for so long, and what’s the main focus of the story?
Korea Central Intelligence Agency was the center of 1970s dictatorship government after October restoration.

<The president’s last bang> didn't put emphasis on the event. Rather than focusing on why Kim Jaegyu shot Park Junghee, and their emotions, it was more of black comedy drawing messy status of nation and pathetic men. My movie focuses on why so it’ll have different tones. I’m centering what the characteristic of power is, and why they behaved that way.
