KRW-PSH and this drama were mentioned in @Orion's new article (Thank you for that!)

I can already smell the "Eww, he's OLD" and "Nooo, she is not good enough!" comments around this casting. I plan to just dive into the series and enjoy it while keeping the fandom/s well away from me, frankly. XD I have not experienced Kim Rae Won much and have not warmed up to Park Shin Hye yet, but I know enough about both to trust them with this work and if given good material to work with. So bring it on. Let's see some medical goodness! I think we might get some good chemistry. I don't know if they will be an OTP or not, but I am good either way.

  2. Hello, folks. Here to share my preview on this. I'm as scared as am I excited. A fully pre-produced work means so much.

I am also looking forward to seeing my home country and even home island here. It doesn't exactly happen in Korean works that much. Ahaha.
I usually avoid forums while watching for spoilers, but I'll be sure to drop in if I have any interesting trivia about the filming locations and everything.

[HanCinema's Drama Preview] "Descendants of the Sun"

    photo691410.jpg

Hold on to your hats and other detachable wearables, because "Descendants of the Sun" is coming, almost a year after it first got viewers excited over its existence. The drama is a fully pre-produced work partially filmed in Greece and features a powerhouse hallyu-fueled cast and crew. Expectations are high and emotions even higher. Are you all ready for the big reveal?

    Premise

Captain Yoo Si-jin (Song Joong-ki) of the UN peacekeeping troops and doctor Kang Mo-yeon (Song Hye-kyo) meet when they are dispatched to a war-stricken country. The series depicts the struggle of its characters and their romance developing under dire conditions.

  3. @rubylia, thank you. Did I see that right? This is the first season?!

I caught that too and it is also in some of the sites I found. I wonder if they have actual info on that or if they just say it because we are used to shows with multiple seasons. The reporters could very well think of series as, well, series. Most works don't have one season alone in other countries' popular television. So I would not read too much into that until there are official news from the Korean side.

I mean, each of these places is not all-knowing. For example, most of these sites do not mention the filming in Lemnos. Actually, I don't remember any place but Lemnos' channels mentioning it aside from culture site Kulturosupa. So they barely have information about the production's full plans within Greece, I doubt they received such important information as the season number from the production, let alone the permission to say it on live tv.

    Thanks for posting, @rubylia.

  4. @kanyaprasetyo yes im Greek!! And yes the reporter said that they were trying to pick locations and considered Indonesia and Singapore. Im sure if they filmed in Indonesia it would turn out awesome as well, have been to Bali and i seriously fell in love!!

Hello, συμπατριώτισσα. After seeing this news and doing research on the places, I want to visit Zakynthos and Arachova too. Ahaha. My family is from Lemnos and I lived there for quite some time, so that place I know well. You're going to see some pretty locations from there. I hope the production can give fans a bit more of a break and release more goodies soon.

  5. Just to weigh in on this, as off-topic as this makes the first part of my post, you folks are already turning this into a war. Skip these first three paragraphs if you're not interested.

@AnnW, not mentioning her name does not change the shippy nature of your post. Everything in it was fine, including the pictures, but that "claimed they had no common interests *wink* *wink*" was clearly part of shipping. The reason people are mad is because there is a shipping section in Soompi. Real life shipping is also considered quite a disturbing and unfair "hobby" by many and has no place in a thread about someone's job, which is acting in this case.

As for the rest who have an issue with the shipping, I do believe you are being overly sensitive and aggressive and this comes from someone who hates shipping and has been thankful Kang Dong Won lacks too many kyaagirls (fanatic fangirls) since 2010. It was one line by one person who remained on topic for the rest of her comment. Ask politely first and if there is a problem, call a moderator. She replied to you very politely and said she has no such plans. This means she either did not want it to be shippy or realized it's not allowed here. You should have dropped the issue then and if she got back at it, told a moderator. We have our @Lyrayoo here, who is a very big fan of the man and very active at her job here. If she feels there's an issue, she'll drop in personally.

As for rumor starting, that is not your business to control. It happens, those who do it should be ashamed and trust me, it's not some English forum and a couple of international fans that start such rumors or who would be believed if they even tried. They come from big "official" gossip channels in Korea and/or China, although it's usually only Korean ones that are taken seriously and even their own agencies start them when convenient. You cannot control rumors, shippers or anything else about his career, any more than other fans can control his personal life. Let's be real here. We are coins in the man's pocket and that's as far as our rights take us.

So let's please close this topic, be careful with shippy posts and putting out fires before there's even smoke and just talk about the man's work, which I personally plan to do as of now. I spoke my piece. His work is going swimmingly by the way. @kazumichan, thank you for your information. A lot of us struggle with Google translate for things, knowing exactly what is said always helps and news portals don't always translate the really important and juicy (career-wise) things.

I really do hope he takes the work with Hwang Jeong Min and both characters sound out of the norm a bit. I enjoy angsty villains or pretty guys and all, but Kang needs some variety in types to further his acting and make him more versatile, but also to reach more audiences. I think him being the bright one is a nice shift from the usual. At least the man is determined to get busy now. More works for us, more exposure and experience for him. As long as he keeps well-rested, bring it on, sir.

  6. spideysteve said: Very expensive, don't they? ;p And yes, I mentioned this here before about how I appreciated that Mi Young's art and her career as an artist were not just a prop, but they actually played a crucial part in the story. This drama still included some very cringe worthy PPL; but when it comes to this artist's work, the show did make good use of it. The writers didn't just tell us that the female lead was talented and then she became a promising artist. They showed it to us and incorporated it into the story. It's really nice to see.

BTW I missed your Yeo Chi sig. :))

  7. Hello folks, I have not been active here, but here is my take on things. Just a comment before that, 'plot' and 'plot outline' are not the same. Saying a series does not need a plot is like saying a building does not need support structure. A plot is not Boy Meets Girl -> They Bicker - > They Love. That is the general plot outline. Specifically,

Depending on definition, plot, premise, idea, all those can mean different things. While the premise (general concept) of many dramas and sometimes even the plot (everything that happens to tell the story) can be similar or even the same, that does not mean a work does not need a plot. A work without a plot is just a series of actions, not a story. For some, plot is more complicated and much more specific than its outline and it is the collection of important points which drive a story or episode specifically, including character motivations, cause-effect etc.

So while people can disagree with those finding issues with a plot in the sense that they do not themselves consider these things issues, countering disagreement with "You people nitpick, we don't need this 'plot' thing" is attacking the validity of an argument, not the argument itself and in a pretty unreasonable manner too. Whatever the reasons we watch a series for, be it an oppa or story or a side-character, plots are there in every fictional work that tells a story. Or should be there. And yes, some might take issues with them and some might disagree, but the plot is what it is. And wanting the plot to be good just makes you a different type of fan, not a worse one or better one than those who watch for something else, but definitely not someone people have a right to complain to about how they themselves enjoy, perceive of and review their entertainment. Disagree with what they find wrong, don't diss their methods.

As for the final episodes, while enough time accommodating the resolution's aftermath are important in romantic comedy, although not always needed if the resolution is done well, there was a lot of filler/fluff near the end. Very appreciated fluff and much needed dwelling on some happier moments after a rollercoaster ride, but that does not mean the episodes had a thorough plot, since they contained a lot of action that was not necessary for it beyond giving some fanservice for audience satisfaction. Again, that is not bad or necessarily a failure of the creators to inject plot into things (looked pretty intentional to me), but it is what it is.

I personally regained some hope in romantic comedy in drama after this series, since we have had some disappointing works in the last few years. This was a bit of a trip back to the rom-coms we are used to and while those have their issues, they at least gave people a smile. So here's my series review and have a good one, folks.

[HanCinema's Drama Review] "Fated to Love You"

    photo483301.jpg

Romantic comedy has seen better days in Korean drama. The last couple of years have really been disappointing, with shows going overly dark for the genre and even going as low as to falsely advertise themselves as something with a lighter tone. That is not to say romantic comedy shows in the past have not had their issues, but they were also more realistic, as realistic as this type of work can be, and mostly light in tone, as the genre should be. 'Fated to Love You' brings some of those issues back, but it also brings back the sorely missed lightness.

  8. @czakhareina, the writer and PD for 'Blood' are solid, but I somehow doubt KBS would be the best option for Kang Dong Won. I still find it hard to believe he would go for a live-filmed Big Three drama, but especially KBS has had a pretty bad couple of years. SBS looks more like the place he would return to, although 'Blood' does sound interesting. Maybe if Park Jae Beom promises to leave sappy romance out and KBS signs a "We will not mess this up" contract. :P

  9. @RoseS, please read the Soompi rules (Rule 5, specifically). Put all your thoughts in one post. Click that little cog that shows when you hover over the upper right side of your post, click edit, make your changes, press 'Save Comment', the big purple button under your text, on the right.

There are some very thorough fans here who all post lovely news, updates and material on the man, so it's important we keep this thread and our conversation going by obeying the rules.

I myself want to watch 'Kundo' very badly, but given this does not seem like just an action flick, I bet the plot and dialogue will be tricky to get without subtitles. I wish they would release DVDs faster, since most foreign fans only have that to wait for. :( But at least we get two movies of his out soon, after a 4-year wait no less. So I really can't complain. Been waiting long enough, I can wait some more. Maybe. :P

  10. He's going to get a ship-load of offers after this statement. I wonder which drama is was too. And you know, as great as he is, he lacks drama experience and might not have fit the part the creators had in mind. I know we find the actors we like the most awesome being alive (well, I don't, but many do), but they are still doing a job and it's not like creators are their fangirls too. :P

I do believe it will actually be tricky to get accepted, when he has so little drama experience and probably requires more money than most and possibly even pre-production or at least more freedom than most drama actors, who usually adapt and go through all kinds of issues. For many creators, he's probably a little scary in that regard, since they're used to treating actors and staff quite cruelly.
