I don't understand about the Female Lead's son. I don't think he is her biological child. Did her husband have a first wife who died?

Also unclear about the friend with the little girl. She was afraid the Female Lead's Mother-in-law would recognize her? Who is she supposed to be?

Anyway, looking forward to Ep. 6

even I was confused about the kid but maybe it is the first wife's son like you said. I am also wondering if the FL's husband was poisoned and died. there seems to be a lot of rumours regarding the mother-in-law. I am not sure exactly about the friend but I think either a nephew or someone related to the mother-in-law was having a relationship with the friend and she got pregnant with baby. however, mother-in-law intervened and refused to let them get married or tried to harm friend. so she escaped or ran away and then was rescued by FL and her brother. the inn owner seems to know who the friend is. the guy friend was involved with is still looking for her years on.

I like the Captain. He is upright and composed. But I didnt understand whose death he was investigating.

The death of the eldest DIL of the Left State Counsellor...?

yea, that is another reason why the drama feels a bit disjointed at times. there is a murder and it is all so serious but not sure yet how it is connected and who it is even.

I was thinking about why the tonal differences feel so jarring but I think it is because the story feels a bit detached. the ML is smart but then he is being played like he is eccentric clownish a bit. then we have the matchmaking FL and we don't feel too much what is driving her to go around in disguise as lady yeon and make matches. is the FL just lonely? is she sad that she will never get life again and so is vicariously living through other couples?

also, the ML getting chest pangs seems like a gag but it would have felt more touching if we saw that he is lonely and feels cut off from the world because the princess died on the wedding day. other than him going around and investigating, we don't see how that day impacted him personally. was he disappointed? hurt? frustrated that his ambitions will no longer be achieved? boxed in that he can't use his intellect? instead, it is almost played for laughs.

we have all these characters and it is a drama about companionship, love and marriage and yet, the drama does not tackle these themes with the earnestness. so it seemed a bit flaky.

I think this drama would be so much more good to watch if the whole tone was a light serious instead of the mismash it is. loneliness is a problem today and so people are finding it difficult to connect even though there are so many options such as dating apps. so if they had tackled some of those type of feelings and themes in the historical times, the drama would feel more deep. yet to watch ep 5 but that has been my impression of the drama so far -- interesting somewhat but also forgettable.

At this point, I can’t tell whether the mistress or the wife is the FL.
Even with the sappy OST. and tears trickling down her face and her justifying  bedding her friend’s husband, I just cannot pity her. Even if the FL’s father had really murdered her father, I don’t find her convincing. Is it her acting or the script?

finally time to catch up on this drama...

so the SFL is just an insecure and angry person who needs a reason to direct her restless energy towards. just like how SFL's mom felt better blaming the FL's dad for their misery, the SFL feels better having a direction to point her anger towards how her life turned out. basically she hates her life, sees no way to rise above and the revenge gives her a sense of purpose. while dumb, people these days have a lot of entitlement and it is all me, me, me. so if their life sucks, then obviously someone has to be blamed and people around them become the punching bag. so it isn't the script or the acting but rather real life people also suck like that.

such an important lesson to learn is that life will have setbacks, disappointments and unexpected turns. because many young adults are such delicate darlings, it is leading to self-harm and other tunnels of bad behaviour and thought according to many experts. in many news programmes on why there are rising levels of depression and self-harm incidents, experts mention that young people as well as parents need to accept that life cannot be ordered to their liking.

I managed to sit through 3 episodes of the matchmakers. yay! I can't decide if I like the drama though. tonally, it is a bit all over the place and I feel like the actors are really trying hard but somehow, it is falling flat. it isn't because they are bad actors but just something missing. there is actual story here and so it is not dragging but I think PD needs to find a consistent tone.

otherwise, if done well, it looks like there will be 4-5 romances in this drama. feels like a weekender but in 20 eps. not bad. maybe I will actually finish this drama. fingers crossed!

@kokodus ~ as you like height difference, thought of you. he certainly towers a lot over her! reminds me of pineapple drama.

There was more to it when it was first revealed, but after our 2 week vacation, I don't remember either

Exactly. From what I read, I say it is like Penthouse but with less steroids. And in both dramas the suposed good guys had to fake a crime to catch the villain. And the bad guys had to be exagerated in their bad ways. Over the top madness, you are right.  I trust my instincts. I am not touching this drama.

For me, The Glory is makjang. The other makjang you mention is crazy makjang, soap opera style.

soap opera style is the fun makjang. it is hilarious that you watch with popcorn. with soap opera style, the villains are not only punished but they are actually far more human and complicated. they are not randomly doing stuff but they are motivated by greed but also have doubts. at the end of the drama, there is healing and restoration and that is what makes it fun to watch. pretty much the definition of most daily dramas.

Define makjang. Exaggerated, over the top madness, right? The glory was exactly like that. Wasn't it? The villains were too villainy with no redeeming qualities. Even the teacher in her school beats her up for complaining about the bullies. It was hard to watch. And it was not realistic.

this is why I don't like dark makjang -- there is nothing enjoyable about watching such a drama. they spiral out into true madness and focus too much on dark side of humans. there is no light in such drama.

All of the characters and bullying scenes were taken from real life stories

kekeke.... you do realize that pretty much can be also said about any type of makjang including the soap opera style. some people have seriously dramatic lives. :sweatingbullets:

I've been watching Tumbling Family while waiting for this one - I guess I'm invested at this point in a few characters - and that show is so bad, and so irrational.  KBS needs to step up their game.  I mean, you need to do things that make sense to the viewers, and show some realism, which is where both dramas go wrong.  People can't suspend their disbelief nonstop.

they need to hire better actors who can sell these stories. makes me appreciate some of the other daily actors who make the most unbelievable interesting.

I am not a fan of Kim Eun Sook`s dramas but I liked some of them. They are watchable/likeable but I can`t see the hype, why her dramas are so popular. It is just me.

same! the only dramas I watched were gentleman's dignity and secret garden but even those I didn't watch all the episodes. I got bored and just skipped to the last episode.

I haven't watched any of her hype dramas. wasn't even curious enough to watch.

@joccu @Lmangla are you planning on watching Thai lakorn "The Infinite Love" with Push?

I haven't been watching any dramas for a while now. instead, I keep watching some crime documentary or the other in the genre. just going through a slump I guess. nothing interests me in any language.

@larus @sweetroad @Lmangla He has a pot belly in the drama.

kekekek... not so bad looking. just looks like normal guy. :D

at least he is looking healthy as opposed to sickly. but usually that seems to happen when there is a yo-yo. maybe he decided that abs were making him unhealthy and so it wasn't realistic goal.

The storyline is too thin for 100 episodes. There is no proper backstory for the main characters. The settings in the drama are very limited. Most of the time the characters are at the evil husband's home or the politician's home. I have watched "Happy Sisters" which was written by the same writer and it was far better with a greater variety of situations and more interesting characters.

yup, this drama is very poorly written.

All this pales in comparison to the real crime of this episode ... JK & Puppy Oppa

    - Yesterday it was first love confession - break up

    - Today its make up - and proposal incoming ... in just 2 days .... really?

puppy oppa's acting is incredibly atrocious that he needs to be removed.

this drama is making women in veil writer look like genius.
