Its owners had insisted upon it accompanying them on the flight, saying that it was a "therapeutic companion pet". They produced a doctor's note to that effect.
David Castleveter, a US Airways spokesman, said: "We can confirm that it will never happen again. Many people were quite upset that there was a large uncontrollable pig on board, especially those in the first class cabin. Let me stress that it will never happen again."
The pig, described as "enormous, brown, angry and honking" was allowed on to the six-hour flight from Philadelphia to Seattle after its owners, a woman in her thirties and one in her sixties, told airline officials that it was as crucial to them as a guide dog. US Airways and the Federal Aviation Authority stipulate that passengers may fly with "service animals" such as guide dogs.
The pig was walked on to the aircraft where it was given three seats in first class, near its owners who had paid the fare. Despite attempts to strap in the animal, it became restless after take off and began sauntering through the first class cabin. "He kept rubbing his nose on people's legs trying to get them to give him food and stroke him," said one passenger.
As the flight landed in Seattle the pig panicked, running up and down through economy class squealing. At one point the animal attempted to enter the cockpit, charging the door. It took four cabin attendants to remove the pig from the aircraft, but once inside the terminal it escaped. It was re-captured after being pushed into a lift. -- 30 Oct 2000, Telegraph

Did some of you notice that there are a lot of scenes where Taec is grabbing GuiGui's wrist instead of holding her hand? Like in this one..
I always wondered why Taec do that, so I did a little research..

Inspired by: Did anyone read The Faraway Tree series by Enid Blyton as a child? To learn more: click here; fantastic for children ~ highly recommend it.
Three children come to live at the edge of the Enchanted Wood where the trees, "a darker green than usual," whisper their secrets: "Wisha-wisha-wisha." In the wood is the Faraway Tree — a huge tree inhabited by fairy-folk and laden with fruit of all kinds from acorns to lemons. Its topmost branches lead to ever-changing magical lands above the swirling clouds....the children explore lands like the Land of Take-What-You-Want, the Land of Dame Slap, the Land of Topsy-Turvy, the Land of Spells, the Land of Goodies, the Land of Dreams and the glorious Land of Birthdays.....
Theme: The grand picnic under the enchanted tree
Story: Our ship sailed long and fast in the micheseo sea searching for treasure and trailing the path of okcat and bef. we found ourselves at the shores of the mysterious micheseo island. we decided to explore to see if okcat and bef had come here earlier. in the magical woods, we founds ourselves at the foot of a huge enchanted tree. we met the tree's guardian spirit, who told us that okcat and bef had come and climbed up the tree and were now in one of the ever-changing magical lands. we would have to wait for the blue moon to come again before we could climb up the tree. so we sat under the tree and feasted. sitting close to the flickering lights of our campfire, we wondered what adventure were okcat and bef having and which magical land were they in.....
What to do?
~ it is a pirate picnic; we need food and drinks.
~ if you are tech savy, you can create posters of magic lands above the faraway tree that okcat and bef might be in or of pirates sitting under the tree in front of campfire exchanging stories....
~ you can draw. if you can't, you can also ask your children/nieces/nephews to draw something and come up with a story
~ these are campfire stories which means ridiculous, over the top and absolute imaginative.
example: okcat and bef found themselves in the candy land and okcat was so excited because he loves sweets. candy land is really a huge field where lollipops of every flavour imaginable blooms and you just pick one off the ground and a new one appears in its place. okcat really wanted fish candy and he searched high and low. he found chicken candy instead and was tempted to eat it. bef saw that and started to cry. okcat felt bad and started to cry as well.....
Task:
~ post a picture of food/drinks
~ Include your campfire story of where okcat and bef might have landed and what happened.
~ can include posters if you are tech savy/can draw..... -
MEMO: to fellow bird-watchers;
Background: As you might be aware, we are studying 'migration and courtship patterns among the micheseo family of birds'. We have focused our study on a pair of birds who we have collared and are following through electronic signals. The female is tagged 'GHOST163', or 'GuiGui' for short and the male is tagged 'OKCAT185', or 'Taec' for short.
Subject: a reminder of how this society operates
Message:
There appears to be some confusion on what our bird watchers society actually does. So, here is the guideline of the regulations that govern our little bird watcher society here at Soompi.
What NOT to do:
~ The micheseo family is part of the larger ent family of birds (also known as entertainers). Ent family is a social group and enjoy interactions with each other. These birds are not solitary creatures and therefore, it is unnecessary to panic every time social interactions are observed; nor is it necessary to defend our thesis with groups that have different hypothesis than ours. It does not mean our study is doomed. It is not the role of the bird watchers to cage free birds.
~ While it might be exciting to imagine having a martini with James Bond or play checkers with Jason Bourne, we are not the spymasters club.
We are just the bird watcher's society. So, we do not hover and scrutinize our birds closely; we do not make noises and frighten the birds if they behave differently than what was expected; we do not invade the space of the birds and alert them of our presence -- we simply observe from a distance from our lounge. Birds are free creatures and we want them to fly wherever they wish.
What we do:
~ We only watch and observe our pair of birds. How do we do it? We track the radio signals (also known as social media) and make observations. @minwooluv78 @korchick @chinlylin @cannakat @sophora @mikoshine and a few others are the radio engineers and help translate the codes into English. Field observations are not central to our study. We did have @b8l8 @torreydinh @peggyW @goongfan11 file a field report recently and it was a happy, rare event.
~ These observations are discussed in the lounge while we have tea and snacks. We are a civilized lot.
Sometimes, the bartender @packmule3 mixes a few drinks and we happily lounge and chat with fellow members.
~ Do remember the fellowship with other club members is as important as our study.
@lok2ming brought us pictures from her trip to the places the birds had jaunted earlier. @labbit recently brought us some Korean food from her trip which we all thoroughly enjoyed. @biruangel keep reminding us of her nasi lemak breakfast in an attempt to make us hungry and head to the nearest Malaysian restaurant. @lmangla has stopped offering cakes and pastries as a favor to all those who are dieting. However, if you would like pastries, please do let her know.
We have a fantastic time with events like micheseo march, ship appreciation, valentine's day special and we recently had a birthday celebration for @angelangie.. We also have games that @spicystrawberry organizes to keep us busy in the lounge when there are long silences from the radio signals. gil_noona and @bleached have done portraits of our club members. We also have sub-club activities that @bluemoonlight @bluemoonrising and others organize especially for the PA club. @leechalee does all our creative stationary, while @bibidep collects reports of sightings from locals. These are just some of the activities that happen here and just some of what the society members do. We have many active members, as well as ones who are more quiet but we do appreciate everyone's contribution and have a great time hanging out together.
~ While we are enthusiastic about our study, it does not mean that we switch our brains off or we do not question some of the theories; we discuss. We are also aware that the birds might not confine to the pattern that we hope to see emerge but if that happens, c'est la vie. That is life and it is good.

But if it is a cultural phenomenon, i.e., there IS a tradition of carrying the wife over the threshold because of a superstition, then I'd like to know those traditional acts/rites because that will allow us to better understand why Guigui does what she does. You know what I mean...
