Okay, Man Soo, start spilling tea tomorrow!

my guess is that he will definitely be attacked before that but since he always has back up plans, the truth will come out anyway. the question is whether he survives. if he does, then jenny and mrs ji will probably forgive him because the guy has literally had 2 attempts on his life by shady mom.

brother police and grandpa had a showdown that was kind of funny. brother police tries to tell him that grandpa has it wrong and he shouldn't be spreading rumours. grandpa is like "I am old, I will do what I want regardless."

jenny as usual is being conned by shady mom. why does she believe shady mom's lies? shady mom convinces jenny that they need to go to LA immediately to turn over the company to jenny's name. post that, shady mom will return to seoul and surrender to police.

the DNA test is also going to be done soon. so it should come out that man soo is shady mom's son. dong joo is already figuring out that jenny may not be shady mom's daughter which is why man soo wanted to marry her. so next few days should hopefully be interesting. then few episodes to wrap up the fallout...

  2. kekeke... am actually glad that eun seok and jenny are getting divorced. the actor playing eun seok has such a bland face that it is hard to tell if he even cares that he found his father's murderer. man soo is in more pain, anguish and double mind while dealing with shady mom -- he lost his father because of her but at the same time, she is his mother and part of him wants to love her. so it is this very confusing feeling he has and the actor does a good job. even jenny is doing a great job of showing conflicting emotion with shady mom -- she is embarrassed, hates and traumatized by this woman but at the same time, has loyalty and cannot let go.

on the other hand, eun seok is being played by an actor who does no nuance and so comes off looking like an idiot going wherever the wind blows. his grandfather and aunt are angry, frustrated that he is married to the daughter of the killer. there is almost no anguish on the conflicting position he is in. instead, he comes across like a lovesick fool who doesn't care about his family history at all when he says that they shouldn't judge jenny because she didn't know. so because of the bad acting, it just feels like eun seok is going through the ropes and this is not about his father but rather about doing something his grandfather wants which is actually ridiculous. it should also impact him, he lost his father and also his mother because of shady mom. even if jenny was not involved, for now, she is shady mom's daughter which means that by marrying her, he has also tied himself to the killer as family. there should be conflicting feelings about that kind of connection. since the actor is not capable of nuance, then better to have a story that is more cut and dry where they divorce instead of this romeo juliet kind of vibe where they want to be together but cannot.

I have seen better acting from a dead fish than the male lead actor. This one has really been bad. Can't wait until this nightmare series is over and hope the next one is better.

yea, they needed a nuanced acting but got someone so bland faced that eun seok becomes this kind of dummy character. and in a daily, we do need those side character developments. just waiting for this one to end since we have gotten this far. lets hope the next one is indeed better. need something to keep us entertained!

I was hoping for revenge, but... ES is a terrible actor, Jenny is just angry, Ms. Ji is depressed and MS is a coward. Damn.

there is revenge... and it is coming from shady mom. :joy:... she feels slighted and insulted that people are "framing" her as the black rose. LOL. her police brother looks at her like she has lost a few marbles when she says that she cannot run away as she needs to pay back those who humiliated her. his reaction is basically "woman you are the black rose. why would you be angry?"

eun seok and dong joo are suspecting man soo is shady mom's son. meanwhile shady mom has decided to hire an assassin to kill man soo and then run off to LA with jenny. she is never going to let go of her golden goose Jenny. man soo says he has finally decided that he can't postpone the truth and told mrs ji that her daughter will be found in a month.

while watching the drama, something that struck me was the lack of evidence. if it wasn't for man soo giving hints to dong joo and eun seok, they wouldn't have figured out shady mom is black rose. grandpa is fuming that even though they know the identity of black rose, she cannot be prosecuted without evidence. thats part of the problem and why man soo has been patient for so long and meticulously building evidence. part of me likes to think that him delaying the truth to jenny is also part of the evidence building. just watched another drama where the lack of evidence meant a short sentence for the villains -- it was so frustrating to watch. since it doesn't look shady mom will be redeemed, it looks like jail or death for her? since we havent got a romance with kyung in and man soo, will he be also killed off?

The first half was normal then it got funny then mission impossible, sadly not as funny as the first 4, I used to laugh loud and clap today just big smile, say hello to F4

yea I felt the same. the episode wasn't as entertaining as the first 4 but I did like the little speech that the noodles guy gave manager jung. he needed someone to tell him that it was fine that he was demoted and not that big a deal as stuff happens. the trick is to keep moving.

Han went to prison but for a far shorter sentence than her illegal acts should have received.

Other Top members may have also gone to jail but, again, with very light sentences.

so I am not sure if I am right and I don't have the heart to re-watch ep 16 to be sure but I think the reason the top members got light sentences is because they were only sued on one case -- the ex-wife of wan joo and her being manipulated by the chef. that is the only one they had evidence for as they had the recording. thats why the top members got such light sentences and it was related to violation of privacy act and something to do with hacking. as for ms han, they had no direct evidence that she hid evidence in the murder and so the charges that she could be prosecuted on were fairly less. yea, it is unfair that their other crimes didn't get exposed but I guess we have to satisfied that they were prosecuted on something....

The reason why Shady mum refused to let go of Jenny (when MS offered Shady mum to leave Korea) is because she is so

dependant on Jenny for the past 25 years, especially when comes to money.

Shady mum do not want to go back 25 years back where they have to pickpocket to survive or goes to hiding.

that makes a lot of sense. she doesn't seem very maternal or even loving towards jenny at times and so kept wondering why she was clinging on to jenny so much....

True, that ES character is lame, his acting is not to par. Sorry if i offended anyone out there. Is just my opinion.

you are not alone. we are all wondering whether it is bad acting or bad character development. every situation is a flat reaction.

@Lmangla Empress of Dignity ending still okay for me. Except for the way they handle CJH’s character of course. But at least I was prepared for it because we are told that he cannot join the last 2 (or was it 4?) episodes due to clash of schedule.

    566

I was so annoyed because of CJH character. they had time to prepare and yet created a stupid ending for him that was so abrupt. think if they had done it with some care, it would have been okay. bad memories. eek.

MS could have told the truth but guess what, he would been looked at badly or would have been called COLD and the drama would have ended.

actually if he had said it earlier, then it would have been interesting to see the fallout. shady mom resents the world so much that she thinks that her actions are acceptable and she is justified in doing bad things. so she has zero remorse. it would have interesting to go from zero remorse to some remorse and some acceptance. many dramas go through very interesting arcs for the villains. here, everything is happening so late that it is going to be rushed now. why have so much snooze episodes earlier?

Anyone caught that Han might have an inkling that WS is about to end his life? But I guess she just couldn’t be bothered to prevent it... *still sour over his death*

she seemed really shocked and dazed by the news -- it wasn't something they had even anticipated. she only put it into context afterwards. it has been a while I actually cried for a fictional character and it wasn't even the leads. it was a side character! wah, wan soo. :bawling:

Isn't it ironic that WS in a fit of rage killed AJR, starting from her refusal to divorce Mo, but Mo went to the house to tell her the real artist that he chose the fake artist, mother of his children. He did not have to do anything but suck up to his father. Tsk tsk.

what is sad is that if papa mo had told second wife that he intended to divorce, then none of this tragedy would have occurred. instead, they all just played games with each other. and second wife didn't even care for papa mo even though he had been willing to divorce seok hee's mom. Second wife even stole his shares while he is in the hospital. so in the end, it is all for naught. neither papa mo or second wife really cared about each other. it was all about MC group, succession and money.

I don't think he is a very good actor and the is probably the biggest factor.

This is his 11th drama and he’s been in three movies. He has been getting by on his face.

find that so hard to believe that it is his 11th drama. <_<

so actually felt sorry for both grandpa and aunt. their anger and outrage was justified. just imagine that you lost a family member in a cruel way and there has been no resolution for years and it has been something they have been waiting for. then to find out that the killer's daughter has married into your family -- not a situation that people would be happy about.

unlike eun seok, they have no way of knowing that jenny didn't know about shady mom's past. he didn't share anything that was going on or his suspicions. so they are outraged as they think that jenny married into the family knowing the truth -- hence the anger. also it doesn't help that eun seok is so besotted by jenny that even at that moment, he is trying to defend jenny and say it may not be shady mom. it was sad that grandpa has lost complete faith in eun seok that he thinks that the investigation may be at risk if eun seok is involved. so it is case of loyalty tested. if eun seok continues to see jenny, then his family would see it as a betrayal that cannot be bridged.

as for man soo, what is the guy upto? not sure why he hasn't told the truth or why he keeps hesitating to tell the truth to jenny. at least before it made sense. jenny has no recollection of the past and so would reject anything he says. now, what is his thinking? anyway, wish all this drama had happened earlier. it feels strange that now that drama is close to ending, we are finally picking up some speed.

  16. such mixed feelings on the ending.

wan soo! :bawling: :bawling:  once it got confirmed that wan soo was indeed the murderer, then it was expected in a way that he would kill himself. for him, it was never about trying to get away with the murder. instead it was all about acceptance and wanting approval. like @guinearoyal put it, the only person in the family who saw him as a human being with potential, loved and approved of him was seok hee and without that, it would have been difficult for him to go on...

besides seok hee, yeon do really didn't want him to be the murderer either as he recognized that wan soo had a good heart. along with seok hee, yeon do is just as stunned and cries on the suicide. this wasn't the kind of truth that they wanted. however, one thing that wan soo did do is he didn't run from the truth once he knew the game was up. he instead prepared a confession and delivered it himself to the prosecutor's son. if he had left it in his room or elsewhere, TOP would destroyed it. so he ensured that the confession stays. in a way, he punished himself rather than let justice take its course. if he had seen that there would be people waiting for him afterwards who loved him, then he might have chosen prison instead @Sushimi. makes me wonder if he would have chosen prison if seok hee had indicated that she would forgive him even if he was the murderer as long as he accepted the truth?

the murder was in a way stand in for second wife and that is the sad truth. he was punishing seok hee's mom when he really wanted to punish and confront his mom for being so cruel. was kind of annoyed with the tears of second wife and wan joon. they never cared when he was alive and now it pricks them when he is gone? pfft, what a waste.

if it wasn't for that pathetic last minute at the end of the drama where ms han and her old squad drive off, the drama was sort of satisfying with its hand of justice.

after yeon do's dad water slap, the other person who really shook ms han was wan soo. she seemed to think that as long as you put in effort, you will always get the result you want. whereas wan soo says that a failure doesn't mean lack of effort and she will never understand because she has never faced failure. for people who have never faced failure, any step back is hard to digest. in this case, wan soo took himself out of TOP's manipulations by ending his story. so she and her squad can't spin the story in another way and it means that her 15 year successful cover-up has now turned into a failure. it is ironic that he won some movie award after his death but it also was another blow to ms han. she had been gloating and goading that he needed to be a movie director and do something but she never knew that he actually had talent. so her assessment that he would turn out to be nothing was indeed wrong. another area where she failed.

@thistle ~ am not sure if ms han felt any emotion for wan soo but I think her realizing that they just lost big time may be the reason she got a bit emotional. it wasn't just her first defeat but a decisive one. also, wan soo said that if ms han had used her heart, she would have seen him. she would have recognized that he actually had talent. so she was wrong in many ways and it felt like that was behind her tears. while I was cheesed off at the ending, ms han and TOP getting defeated itself was a big deal. instead of running away, they had to accept responsibility and had to accept failure. for those like yeon do and seok hee who have faced failure many times, it is easier but not for those who always got what they want, this is a thorn that will burn in their soul. so we must be satisfied with that tidbit.

as for wan joon and second wife, it was indeed a fitting punishment. while the jail term itself was less, it is the loss of their precious ambition that is more hard hitting. after all of that, they realize that someone (wan soo) cared for them but they were so focused on their ambition and greed that they lost true affection. so what was the point of all that ambition? they have also lost their reputation and their swag which they are never going to get back after they rejoin society. others will spite them. in that sense, they were punished. papa mo I assume just stays in coma and eventually slips away.

we have two people in this drama who ended their lives -- wan soo and also the prosecutor. in both cases, they made a mistake and bad choices but they were also loved and human. so the prosecutor's son will now become a good one who cannot be bought and will be for justice.

as for the time jump, in a way it made sense. both yeon do and seok hee needed to kind of heal from everything that happened. for seok hee, wan soo's death really hit her hard. she needed to step away. it is interesting that she chose to study law but finds no heart for it. MC group runs itself with a professional manager and so no more family wrangling. yeon do stepped away once he re-aligned TOP to the new goal of empathy and has become a public defender. he also needed to something else and breathe a bit. while the kiss was bland, it is clear they are now ready to commit to each other long term and move forward together. so not too bad.

altogether -- this isnt' the ending I wanted at all. however, compared to some drama endings where I was fuming afterwards for days, I am okay with this one. however, the ending completely removed any rewatch and downgraded the drama a lot. episode grade: it is a 5 for me as well @maribella

it is so frustrating when that happens because you liked 95% of the drama but that 5% awfulness makes the drama downgrade to just pass. <_<

if they plan to kill off a beloved character, then the audience should be given hints first itself. when there's hints, no one is surprised and we are able to shrug. everyone knows romeo and juliet die at the end. so we are like okay. but when it is done as a kind of twist, it ticks me off because the story could have written in many ways.

With the big Evil triumphing to the end the rewatch value has seriously plummeted for me. Many times I think Korean writers who choose these types of plot should seriously sit down and watch the Chinese drama Nirvana in Fire. Formidable and deadly villains who were brought to justice by 10 years of carefully laid plans by the brilliant yet tragic protagonist.

unfortunately, for most of us, we are not going to be rewatching. even if the punishment was light, it would have been satisfying if ms han and her squad got at least mentally squashed for all the crimes they did. if they had felt humiliated and broken, then the number of years wouldn't matter. thanks for mentioning nirvana in fire. it looks like I might need something good and satisfying to wipe off the irritation I am going to feel after ep 16. I am dreading watching the final episode now. sigh

  20. why does it feel like we all lost the bet? :sweatingbullets: if at least ms han got kicked and beaten, there would be some satisfaction. instead, a character many of us liked ended up being the culprit and killed himself and worse, the obnoxious puppet master ms han gets to roam free? and her team of bad people are waiting for her like they love her? did PD think we liked ms han and wanted her to get off?
