  3. Ahn Eun-jin prepares for the final days in Goodbye Earth by tccolb The first teaser has been posted for Netflix’s dystopian sci-fi Goodbye Earth, where we follow our heroine Ahn Eun-jin (My Dearest) as humankind is served a notice of doom. Opening the teaser on that fearful day, the population is alerted by the emergency alarm on their phones that an asteroid is on route to bring apocalypse and everyday life is thrown into shambles. As a now former middle school teacher, Jin Se-kyung (Ahn Eun-jin) joins the government initiative to look after the children and youth. But our heroine is at a loss for words when the young Kim Kang-hoon (Death’s Game) questions if her protective gestures are useful in these current circumstances. But asteroid-aside, we learn from fellow student Kim Bo-min (The Silent Sea) and a steely-eyed Commander Kim Yoon-hye (Shooting Stars) that there dangerous characters roaming the streets who have been taking advantage of an upturned society. It’s enough to make Se-kyung grab a gun to protect herself, and we cut away before we can see the outcome. Still, not everyone has gone the way of anarchy, and our heroine’s priority remains with her students in the final sequence. As the countdown speeds to zero, Se-kyung resolves to stay by her loved ones until the very end, and we close as the community makes the most of their tumultuous last days. Also starring Jeon Sung-woo (The First Responders 2) and Yoo Ah-in (Hellbound) among others, production for Netflix’s Goodbye Earth has PD Kim Jin-min (My Name) at the helm with scripts penned by Jung Sung-joo (Heard It Through the Grapevine, Secret Love Affair). The novel adaptation will be dropping its 12 episodes on April 26. https://www.dramabeans.com/2024/04/ahn-eun-jin-prepares-for-the-final-days-in-goodbye-earth/
  4. Team Dramabeans: What we’re watching (April 13, 2024) by DB Staff So, what are we all watching this week? What kept you reaching for more (or agonizing when there was no more), and what made you want to throw your remote through the screen? Time to weigh in… javabeans Knight Flower: Thoroughly enjoyed this as an easy-going romp with a bit of a message. I’ve been digging the streak of feminist commentary in some of the recent sageuks I’ve seen, which take the time to note how hard society was on women and highlight how remarkable they are for persevering in light of that. But the commentary wasn’t overpowering; the glib tone and antics of our intrepid nighttime vigilante widow kept the plot moving briskly, and although the drama didn’t quite grab its hooks into me emotionally (not that I think it was aiming for that), I did quite enjoy the light dusting of romantic angst — plenty of yearning looks and feels, but in small, manageable doses. I didn’t necessarily feel romantic chemistry between the widow and the captain out to catch her (and then protect her from being caught), but I did feel the pang of their frustrated attachment and the drama made the right choice in not forcing the romance, I think. (Although I could’ve used a bit more resolution on that front. Would it have killed you to deliver a bit more skinship??) https://www.dramabeans.com/2024/04/team-dramabeans-what-were-watching-april-13-2024/

What kept you reaching for more (or agonizing when there was no more), and what made you want to throw your remote through the screen? I’m a little mad at myself for starting it right away because I’d have preferred to marathon this in a single weekend and I don’t look forward to the next seven weeks of waiting for my next dose of sunshine. This setup (of traveling back in one’s lifetime and attempting to fix something that went awry while delivering a hit of nostalgia and romance) has been a bit of a trend in recent years, but it’s all about the execution — I’m reminded of how I stuck with the lackluster A Time Called You more for what I wished it could be rather than what it was. I have more hope for Lovely Runner, which is bright and sweet and well-acted — they hit that balance of youthful awkwardness and melancholy in just the right way. I appreciate the building up of the background story (in the future timeline) that gives Sol’s antics an edge of desperation that keeps the comedy from veering over-the-top, and I’m rooting hard for Sun-jae to find his way to the light. We all deserve a Sol in our lives doing her damnedest to make us feel our lives are worth living. missvictrix Lovely Runner: Two episodes and this drama has captured my heart! I went in with fingers crossed, hoping to love it, and it only took the first few minutes for that to happen. The story, the leads, the heart of the thing! I love when a drama has a firm grasp of what it’s doing, and knows how to make all the right feelings happen, seamlessly switching between making me giggle, squee, and then clutch my heart in those heavier moments (seeing her youthful mom, hugging her grandma, the tear that dropped on her foot). This drama also has the best art direction vibe around it — this was something I adored about True Beauty and I’m so happy to see here too. There’s something about the color palette, the retro vibe, and the lived-in detail of each set that builds this maximalist, hyper-curated, and delightful world of the story that just makes it so easy to inhabit. This is hands-down one of my favorite things K-dramas do, and a drama like this always renews my fervor and appreciation for it. mistyisles Lovely Runner: Let’s be real, you had me at “time-slip idol drama.” But even aside from that, this show is an absolute delight, and I’m loving every second of it! Something about it feels very “classic K-Drama” to me in all the best ways, but there’s a freshness to it as well. The way she literally isn’t allowed to tell the future is a neat twist to the time travel rules, and now I’m curious what *other* rules might pop up as we go along. As for the big twist in Episode 2 — if I weren’t already sold on this pairing, I sure am now! Also, I’m going to need the entire OST immediately. https://www.dramabeans.com/2024/04/team-dramabeans-what-were-watching-april-13-2024/
  6. Kim Nam Joo, Cha Eun Woo, And More Thank Viewers As "Wonderful World" Comes To An End Drama Apr 13, 2024 by E Cha The stars of MBC’s “Wonderful World” shared their final farewells ahead of the series finale! With the hit drama winding to a close, leading lady Kim Nam Joo expressed her gratitude by remarking, “I’d like to sincerely thank all the viewers who trusted Eun Soo Hyun and have stayed with her up until now. I was able to enjoy many happy moments thanks to being a part of the amazing drama ‘Wonderful World.’” She playfully added, “To everyone who was part of ‘Wonderful World,’ I want to say that you were truly ‘wonderful.’” Meanwhile, ASTRO’s Cha Eun Woo reflected on how his character had helped him grow as an actor. “I was able to feel a lot of different emotions while playing the role of Kwon Sun Yool,” he said. “I think that ‘Wonderful World’ made it possible for me to grow [as an actor], so I’m grateful. I was honored to have been able to make many memories with the director, writer, cast, and crew that I will remember for a long, long time.” Cha Eun Woo went on, “From the bottom of my heart, I sincerely thank the fans who always send their love and support, along with all the viewers who laughed and cried together while watching our drama. I hope that each and every one of your days is ‘wonderful.’” Kim Kang Woo expressed his deep fondness for the drama and his co-stars, noting, “This drama was an even happier one for me because I was able to work together with senior and junior actors that I have always respected and admired. So I always felt happy on my way to the filming set, and the time I spent on set has stayed with me in the form of a truly precious drama. I’d like to sincerely thank my co-stars, the staff who always worked so hard, and the viewers who gave their love to ‘Wonderful World.’” Finally, Im Se Mi commented, “I felt grateful every moment that I was on the filming set. 7. Blood Free: Episodes 1-2 by solstices In a future where synthetic meat has taken over the global market, a sudden onslaught of consecutive crises threatens the company at the center of it all. Behind our heroine’s groundbreaking technology lies innumerable secrets, and we’re only beginning to scratch the surface. EPISODES 1-2 Once again, writer Lee Soo-yeon isn’t pulling any punches with her social commentary, and I am all in for it. Right off the bat, the premiere episode opens with viscerally graphic AR projections of animals being hunted, trussed up, and brutally butchered for their meat. It’s shock advertising for a product presentation, and chairwoman YOON JA-YOO (Han Hyo-joo) steps out to laud the achievements of her biotech company BF — which stands for “Blood Free.” Not only have they successfully cultivated lab-grown synthetic meat and fur, but they also — quite literally — have bigger fish to fry. Serving up cultured seafood to the guests in attendance, Ja-yoo proclaims that BF’s operations will expand to grain and crops in a mere six month’s time. Amidst the audience, WOO CHAE-WOON (Joo Ji-hoon) listens attentively to Ja-yoo’s speech, only for the popping of champagne bottles to briefly spur a traumatic flashback. In Chae-woon’s memory, an explosion goes off, and he helps Ja-yoo to her feet amidst the rubble and the bloodied bodies of his fellow soldiers. After the event, Ja-yoo leaves through a crowd of aggrieved protestors and fervent supporters. As her car comes to a halt in a traffic jam, Ja-yoo gazes wistfully at a family enjoying the Christmas cheer. Then a man falls off an overpass and crashes onto her car. Chae-woon, who’d also been leaving the venue, rushes to Ja-yoo’s aid alongside the BF personnel — and amidst the crowd, a man with a ragged scar on his cheek watches them ominously. Thankfully, Ja-yoo emerges from the incident mostly unscathed save for a neck brace. Chae-woon’s timely arrival and efficient response has piqued her curiosity — especially since he rings a bell with her closest aide, BF’s general manager JUNG HAE-DEUN (Park Ji-yeon), though she can’t quite place where she’s seen him before. As it turns out, Chae-woon’s convenient proximity to Ja-yoo is far from a coincidence. The former president LEE MOON-KYU (Jeon Guk-hwan) had sent him a VIP invitation, and their ties can be traced back to that traumatic explosion. Back in the post-war landscape of January 2024, Moon-kyu had spontaneously decided to pay a visit to dispatched troops, alongside several businessmen and congressmen. Within seven hours since Moon-kyu decided on the visit, and a mere half hour since their plane landed, the explosions had gone off. Both the ministers had died, leaving the four remaining survivors as suspects — and Ja-yoo had been part of his entourage. Moon-kyu is deeply suspicious of Ja-yoo, who’d requested him to abolish the law requiring cultured meat to be labeled as genetically-modified food. She’d gotten her wish — after Moon-kyu had lost his legs in the explosion and stepped down from office, that is. Needless to say, Moon-kyu has a vendetta against Ja-yoo, and unbeknownst to Chae-woon, he seems to be covertly plotting with the current prime minister SEONU JAE (Lee Hee-joon). more https://www.dramabeans.com/2024/04/blood-free-episodes-1-2/
  8. 4 Things We Loved & 2 Things We Hated About The Premiere Episodes Of "Lovely Runner" Drama Apr 13, 2024 by andyzar It’s finally here! For those who have been eagerly waiting for the romantic comedy “Lovely Runner,” the wait is over at last! Ever since the announcement of this new show, the anticipation for it has been on the rise, and it didn’t disappoint. There are definitely many things to love from this K-drama, from the fantastically casted actors, to the solid plot from the beginning. Here are a few things that we loved the most and some things we didn’t especially like from the first two episodes. Warning: spoilers for episodes 1-2 below! LOVED: The endearing and emotionally realistic plot The story follows the female lead Im Sol (Kim Hye Yoon), who gets bedridden and loses all hope in life after an accident, that is, until she meets by chance the lead singer from the new boy group “Eclipse,” Ryu Sun Jae (Byun Woo Seok). He gives her the exact words of encouragement which help her to overcome her struggles. Fast-forward to several years later, we see a much recovered Im Sol, who turns into a positive and thriving woman, always eager to support her ultimate bias, Ryu Sun Jae. \ Right from the start, “Lovely Runner” shows a very emotional setting, since we see two polar opposites in the main couple: Im Sol, who seems to be at her worst moment in life, and Ryu Sun Jae, who is at the start of a promising career, despite both being the same age. Later on, we will find out that their lives are more intertwined than it is initially shown. Furthermore, the show depicts how important the right support is when you need it the most, which is exactly what Im Sol will try to do for Sun Jae in order to prevent his tragic death when she finds herself back in 2008. LOVED: Kim Hye Yoon and Byeon Woo Seok’s wide acting range One thing you can count on when it comes to Kim Hye Yoon is that you can be laughing out loud with her hilarious scenes in one moment, just to be bawling your eyes out the next with her heart-wrenching moments. Her ability to portray deep emotional scenes without missing the chance to make you laugh is exactly what a character like Im Sol needs to be. This is especially true since she suddenly finds herself in the past, right before her accident (which left her impaired) and with the chance to save the life of her beloved Ryu Sun Jae. more https://www.soompi.com/article/1654423wpp/4-things-we-loved-2-things-we-hated-about-the-premiere-episodes-of-lovely-runner
  9. Ahn Eun Jin and Others Strive to Protect People in Netflix's "Goodbye Earth" by Lily Alice, April 12, 2024 3 1 Netflix has released a teaser for its upcoming thriller Goodbye Earth. Goodbye Earth tells the story of people living in a world that is headed towards destruction, with only 200 days left until the collision of Earth and an asteroid. Ahn Eun Jin, Jeon Sung Woo, Kim Yoon Hye, and Yoo Ah In among others, are cast in the series. The teaser commences with a news report informing Korean citizens of asteroid Dina heading towards Earth in 300 days, and NASA has classified the Korean Peninsula as the impact location. Citizens who couldn't escape to safer countries find their lives turned upside down overnight. From protesting crowds flooding the streets to criminals escaping, and organizations posing as military and threatening citizens, the societal chaos grips the peninsula in darkness. Meanwhile, children living the unfortunate reality of never having the chance to become grown-ups become targets of various crimes, while adults in Woongchun, including middle school teacher Jin Se Kyung (Ahn Eun Jin), strive to protect them until the end. The title card that reads "Together Today, Tomorrow, Till The End" hints at the perseverance of the caring Jin Se Kyung (Ahn Eun Jin), Woo Sung Jae (Jeon Sung Woo), an assistant priest who takes care of the parishioners, and Kang In Ah (Kim Yoon Hye), the leader of the combat support battalion, in keeping people safe and sticking with their beloved ones until the end. 10. Lee Min-ki and Kwak Sun-young get behind the wheel in Crash by lovepark Truck of Doom beware, because these dramaland cops may actually hunt you down! ENA’s upcoming comedy Crash is about a ragtag team of officers over at the Traffic Crime Investigations (TCI) unit, and as their name implies, they investigate vehicular crimes. If the acronym sounds unfamiliar, don’t worry, since the newest teaser for the show pokes fun at its own relative obscurity. Starring Kwak Sun-young (Moving) as team ace Min So-hee — alongside Heo Sung-tae (Bait) as her captain Jung Chae-man and Lee Ho-chul (Like Flowers in Sand) and Moon-hee (Duty After School) as her teammates — the TCI fight an uphill battle as they raid an office only to be met with confusion. The criminals think they’re a broadcasting station since their title isn’t as recognizable as the FBI, CIA, or even BTS — the latter of which poor Chae-man misunderstands as another police department. Then, to make things worse, a new addition joins their crew in the form of nerdy Lee Min-ki (Behind Your Touch) as genius Kaist graduate Cha Yeon-ho. Making quite the first impression, Yeon-ho introduces himself on a rainy night with a flashlight shining under his face, and So-hee screams at the serial killer who enters her car. Alas, this is her new partner, and his explanation for his unorthodox entrance was to not scare her. Oh boy… Yeon-ho isn’t the only hole on the team, though, as Chae-man gets beat up during an arrest and sheepishly stares at the ground while the new recruit holds an ice pack to his eye. The whole group seems like trouble as they dance outside a press conference and their superior officer calls them dumbheads. Despite all this, Yeon-ho wants to do a good job — even if he can’t jump walls or pull off stunts like his cool partner — and he’ll get behind the wheel if it means solving the case. Directed by PD Park Joon-woo (Doctor Detective, Taxi Driver) with scripts penned by Oh Soo-jin, ENA’s Crash is slated for twelve episodes and premieres May 13 in the Monday-Tuesday slot. https://www.dramabeans.com/2024/04/lee-min-ki-and-kwak-sun-young-get-behind-the-wheel-in-crash/

  12. The Midnight Studio: Episodes 8-9 by mistyisles It doesn’t always take ghostly encounters to realize that people aren’t always as they seem, but dealing with ghosts (not to mention being a ghost!) certainly makes it easier to discover other people’s well-kept secrets. Long-awaited answers about the past emerge this week, bringing joy to some and heartbreak to others. But one especially terrible secret is catching up to our photographer very quickly, leaving death and destruction in its wake. EPISODE 8-9 Having successfully lured Ki-joo to the bridge by possessing Bom and threatening to throw her off, ghost-turned-evil-spirit Hoon proudly admits that he enjoyed being people’s one and only lifeline. Also, he didn’t just stalk his victim, Hyun-joo — he manipulated her boyfriend into thinking she was cheating so he’d break up with her. Ki-joo inches closer until he’s able to knock Bom off-balance and pull her into his arms, activating the Safe Zone and expelling Hoon from her body. While Nam-gu fights Hoon off and tosses him back into the river, Ki-joo comforts Bom. She doesn’t remember anything that happened while she was possessed, and is immensely relieved to hear she didn’t hurt anyone. Ki-joo’s only physical injury from the ordeal is a deep scratch on his elbow, but he’s far more concerned about Bom’s safety than anything else. Theoretically, throwing Hoon back into the river (the same thing that killed him originally) should destroy him, and the team helps Hyun-joo clear her name and return to a happier life. But Ki-joo isn’t taking any more chances. He accompanies Bom to work and holds her hand as they walk down the street to keep other ghosts away. Then, since Ji-won is working late, he offers to stand guard outside her door all night. That quickly gets amended to him sitting beside her bed (because Safe Zone) until Bom realizes he’s feverish again — this time because Hoon never passed on through the Gate of the Dead like he was supposed to. So Bom lets Ki-joo rest his head on her shoulder, watching over him instead of the other way around. Unbeknownst to them, Hoon does ultimately emerge from the river, only to be absorbed by the evil spirit that has been working its way ever closer to Ki-joo and the Midnight Studio (and killing all the neighborhood cats in its path). Traditionally, the Midnight Studio photographer takes his funeral photo 50 days prior to his 35th birthday. When the day arrives, Ki-joo asks Bom to take his photo, though he doesn’t tell her why. At his awkward attempts to pose, Bom joins him on the couch for practice. He stares in open admiration while she chatters obliviously, and then he confesses his feelings and leans in for a kiss. (Many more kisses later, they do eventually get the photo taken.) Around the time Hoon’s case gets wrapped up, Nam-gu’s killer — the criminal who got away — is spotted again. Nam-gu joins the chase and helps his old partner catch and cuff the guy. Then he goes home to see his wife as the news breaks that his killer has finally been brought to justice. To his utter shock, he discovers that she had been planning to divorce him, seemingly because of an (at least emotional) affair with the local florist. Enraged, Nam-gu makes a mess of the flower shop. He’s seconds away from killing the florist when Ki-joo arrives and calms him down. Ki-joo acknowledges the legitimacy of Nam-gu’s anger but warns that acting on it will turn him into an evil spirit, and advises Nam-gu to think carefully about what he really wants. Also around this same time, Ji-won reveals (without knowing it’s a reveal) that she was in fact Sung-ho’s online girlfriend. She thinks he ghosted her on the night he, well, became a ghost, and the only way he can think to begin making it up to her is to follow her around like a good-luck fairy: holding the bus when she’s running late, delivering helpful files and insider tips to make her job easier, that sort of thing. Now that Bom and Ki-joo are officially (if secretly) dating, he surprises her with a spontaneous camping trip. They leave Sung-ho in charge of the Midnight Studio and drive to the ocean… or, at least, that’s the plan. But this is Ki-joo’s first time behind the wheel, so a two-hour trip turns into five hours, and that’s just how long it took the car to run out of gas. Stranded in the middle of nowhere, they decide to make the best of it and pitch their tent under the stars. Based on their conversation that night, Ki-joo finally puts the pieces of his life together: Bom was that 12-year-old ghost who disappeared! Following the accident that killed her parents, she was in a coma for two months — during which time her soul hung out at the Midnight Studio. The Safe Zone is the result of a protective salt circle he drew around the two of them. Now, Ki-joo holds Bom tightly and thanks her for saving him many times over. They agree that they must have been fated to meet each other at just the right time. While Ki-joo and Bom are bickering over the right way to cook ramyun and sharing kisses in the rain, however, Sung-ho is left to deal with a direct attack from the cat-murdering evil spirit. It ransacks the outer studio, but fortunately it can’t breach the doors into the actual Midnight Studio, so Sung-ho is shaken but unhurt. more https://www.dramabeans.com/2024/04/the-midnight-studio-episodes-8-9/

  14. Lee Min Ki, Kwak Sun Young, Heo Sung Tae & Others Make a Comedic Team in "Crash" by Lily Alice, April 12, 2024 4 3 ENA's Crash unveiled new posters and a second teaser. Crash is an investigative drama about the Traffic Crime Investigation Team (TCI) solving traffic crime cases. The posters and the teaser give a glimpse of the TCI team members — Lee Min Ki, Kwak Sun Young, Heo Sung Tae, Lee Ho Chul, and Choi Moon Hee — in action. Meanwhile, the teaser kicks off with a funny situation where the less-popular TCI team faces questions like "Are you from the broadcasting station?" from criminals. Moreover, their appearance makes it difficult to guess what kind of police investigation they are conducting. When Woo Dong Gi (Lee Ho Chul) says, "Like FBI, CIA, BTS, it [TCI] only sounds good if it is abbreviated in English," Jung Chae Man (Heo Sung Tae) seriously asks, "Which country's police is BTS?" Cha Yeon Ho (Lee Min Ki), a former insurance investigator who can't fight, is intriguing in his own way. He hesitates on the scene, gets kicked and can't seem to contain his clumsiness. Then there are Min So Hee (Kwak Sun Young) and Eo Hyeon Kyung (Choi Moon Hee), who can take down criminals on the spot and cannot restrain themselves in the face of crime. But despite appearing chaotic, when it comes to cracking down on traffic crimes, the TCI team is sincere. When they unite, bringing their unique skills to the table, there is no crime they cannot solve and no criminal they cannot arrest. Crash will premiere on May 13.
