Hello all Toasties!
I haven't visited in months with my hectic schedule, but it's so wonderful to see many new Toasts and our ship sailing well into the ChaeKi sunset. As a few of you might know, I've recently been commissioned by a certain ChaeKi Superstar *cough*@mktb*cough* to write a blurb for our ChaeKi for the contest. However, I only have 2 days and I'm having a bit of writer's block. So I'm asking for your help.
If you only have one sentence to write, what would you say is the most apt description of ChaeKi's relationship/chemistry/feeling?
If you were to provide "evidence" of ChaeKi's romantic interest, what do you think are the Top 3 most convincing?
I'm hoping your comments will sprinkle some kind of magic dust on my brain, and I'll be inspired to write a brilliant piece for ChaeKi...instead of the writer's block I currently have. So please give me some inspiration. ;

What is going on here? I've only been away for several months and our boat is sinking? Granted, real life has stolen me away from ChaeKi and I haven't been up to date at all, but truly, our faith can't be that easily shaken, now can it?
Whatever iceberg we've hit, all I can say is, stay calm and no one panic.) As always, shipping is really about the joy and friendships we've experienced and not about the happily ever after. Whether or not ChaeKi may end up in happily wedded bliss is irrelevant to the wonderful feelings and experiences ChaeKi-shipping has given to us. The warmth we've gotten from watching ChaeKi is real, the friendship we've establish here is real, and so is the impact to our lives. Can I say that it was through shipping ChaeKi that my fiance and I got closer? Lols. So whatever happens, be thankful for the journey, and grateful for the friendships. CW is smart...and wise...have a little more faith in her ability to perceive and handle her friendships/personal relationships. Likewise, JK isn't stupid either. For a guy who is intellectually smart and emotionally aware, I think he'll know how to handle himself in public or otherwise.

But i dont agree in that if many ppl know abt chaeki even to a reporter, then it is impossible to stop from spreading rumors. Or chased by dispatch. However chaeki hasnt rumor.
Also it should not be industrial secret cuz it is very dangerous. Acquaintances of chaeki can reveal them to dispatch. The more ppl who know chaeki, the more possibility of getting revealed!

In reply to several Toasts mentions, yes, I'm still going strong w/ my ChaeKi faith and have observed CW's interactions with JW vs. SJK. Lols, and as many of you have pointed out, there is a difference. There is now a comfort and ease versus the bit of nervousness and excitement CW showcased from NG's press-con/BTS.
I also believe CW is honest saying she likes "younger" guys these days. In her mind, JK probably resembles a younger BF w/ his playfulness and childishness at times. I often feel the same with my fiance, who's 3 yrs older. Completely like dating a younger guy half the time. Lols. So yes, I can see CW being the "noona" in their relationship quite easily. After all, she's our Queen right?) -

@coastalbreeze This is when you have to go to KBS's direct website or DC. Gosh, I'm so excited just to see CW on my screen again. I love the tone of this drama too...it's just so different from many of the recent dramas. No idols in the main cast, no sci-fi/fantasy, no revenge/chaebols, no time-traveling...just a story of a person in everyday life who happens to have an extraordinary human experience since birth. I have a very good feeling about this drama. -
Hiya Toasts...been a little preoccupied with work (and a few great dramas
) but still loving ChaeKi as always.
As time goes on, people will probably move on from ChaeKi...but I think we've all gotten a lot of joy from shipping our beloved couple. Even if you doubt ChaeKi had real life affections for each other, think they may or may not be dating, at least it was such great fun to fall in love with ChaeKi's chemistry, to befriend each other here at Soompi, and laugh together.
I don't want to say much since everyone should follow their hearts and do what they think best...just wanted to say, after rewatching the DVD commentary, I again have to restate that there is no doubt in my mind of ChaeKi's romantic interests in each other. I have utmost confidence JK won't let his romantic interest just die off like that. He would have proactively tried to initiate after NG filming if he was interested in CW. JK has said in interviews (and in the commentary) that he likes men/characters who are more proactive. These type of men are charismatic & manly - just like JK in real life.
Practical does not mean one does not pursue romantic interests. In fact, the practical thing for an actor is to pursue an interest and get to know her for a long time. In an industry where competition and scrutiny is fierce, where the demands are high, and the consequences extreme, you need to know very well who and what kind of a person your future spouse will be. Time will always tell and JK needs that period of time before he considers marriage. He may be practical and a deep thinker, but that doesn't prevent him from considering issues of love. Since JK came from a pretty loving family, he'll want to have a relationship similar to his parents. And what more of a better test than the period of time when a man serves in the army?)
I have a lot of faith in my observations about JK and CW as people - not because I like them, but b/c I've observed them for years. To me, a person's personality and character can only be seen through by time. What I have seen consistently from JK and CW are that they take their work very seriously, but their life away from work just as, if not more, seriously. They have a great grasp on the "real world" away from the glamor and glitz of the entertainment industry...so I have faith in our ChaeKi.

Lols, wow, what is happening here? Since it's already been noted above the pic was for a filming, Toasts can relax.
I have seen Shin Hye grow up since she first appeared in Stairways to Heaven. From my observations, she is not ready for a steady romantic relationship currently...whereas JK is quite comfortable getting into a steady relationship. This is on top of both JK and SH's personalities I've observed over the years. In my humble opinion, JK and SH are not as compatible as lovers as ChaeKi. I'm saying this not out of a bias, but out of objective observations of personality attributes, background similarities, and professional attitudes. Shin Hye is still maturing as an actress and will need some time before she can really consider romance as a big part of her life.
And yes, ChaeKi not having a CF is very suspicious in Korea...especially given how JK has been non-stop with his endorsements. Normally, the offers for those who've collaborated on projects are higher than those whom have never worked before - less risk of failure due to acceptability of the pairing. With JK telling the CF world he's willing to endorse - I can not imagine not one company has asked if he would do a CF w/ CW. And w/ MS Team possibly losing a big actress (or at least some revenue) when Lee Min Jung gets married to LBH, endorsements should be even more valuable to CW's management company. If there is an offer for ChaeKi, why is any one of the sides rejecting it? JK definitely is willing to endorse, and MS Team definitely would want more revenue...so why is it not happening?
Y'all be the judge of that.)

Though I don't know what kind of chemistry CW will exhibit with JW, but I have never seen her not have chemistry with her co-stars, even if the role is a side character. So I think CW will do very well in that department. It's really up to this production crew & staff - how cohesive they can be to churn out a great drama. Rather than JW, I think JK's bigger threat is Sang Wook. Lols, not that CW would deviate, but hot, older man have a certain appeal.) I wonder if JK will be bold enough to visit the set or send a food truck. Lols, now that would be staking claim. Not that JW & SW won't know by then even if they weren't told. It's so easy to tell between actors whether someone is dating or not. Like how I can tell if my colleagues have found a new love interest - there are just tell-tale signs everywhere. ) -
Oh ChaeKi, what is up with the frequent in-sync "appearances"...news of CW's potential new drama is shortly followed by news of JK's possible new movie. Lols, is the media doing this on purpose? Or are ChaeKi just discussing their projects on the same time table and their mgmts are simply releasing the news simultaneously.

Anyways, regardless of my hesitation or anticipation over ChaeKi's potential new projects, I'm going to trust their judgement. I really do miss them and want them back asap, so let's hope CW and JK confirm whatever projects they want to participate in, soon. Despite my trepidations about Green Scalpel, I guess it would be cool to see CW following her noona SYJ's drama, Shark, on KBS. KBS sure loves our Chae Wonnie. I guess it's not going to be easy for her to jump ship to another channel, huh?)

) . You cutie pie, you *squishes cheeks*. No I'm not prophetic - wished I was so I know what ChaeKi are up to and when they are coming back with a project. At the time, I had known JK and CW for quite awhile - had observed their performances as well as their off-screen persona. Call it instinct, but I felt their natural affinity for acting, as well as a sincerity in their roles - no matter how small or short - made them very compatible in my eyes. Of course, I also felt their close age would benefit in a collaboration. I just didn't predict their collaboration could potentially turn into something romantic. ) That did come somewhat as a surprise, since I wasn't expecting CW to grow so close to JK in such a short time. I knew JK's sociability and sincerity would open CW up...just not that quickly. NG's press conference was the first time I got the impression a romantic interest was actually possible for ChaeKi. CW surprised quite a few of us older fans with her openness and comfort with JK.

I'm glad several of you are writing FFs. I remember when I used to read and write those as a teenager, but now I seem to have outgrown it. Nonetheless, I think it's great we've got Toast authors who are willing to share their works and help people participate. It's a great way to keep Toasts bonded together...and I really do miss many of my sistas and kindred spirits here. I may not always be active in the thread, but I have ChaeKi and Toasts in my heart. Thinking of and wishing the best for ChaeKi and you all. :-* -
Omo, I've been so busy with work and personal life that I haven't logged onto Soompi in awhile...where is everybody? Are we just all busy or have jumped ship? :-/
I backtracked several dozen pages and just wanted to comment on the issue of "rejection". This possibility isn't impossible, just not very probable. During the filming of NG, I found it a bit curious ChaeKi had such few promotional news and events. Look at some of the most popular dramas currently airing...there are news released with the OTPs and leading actors being close/friendly/sweet, etc. At times, trying to stir more romantic connection between two leads than there was chemistry onscreen, but look at how restrained promos/news for ChaeKi were during NG broadcasting. So...the lack of collaborations between ChaeKi started much earlier than the end of NG filming. To say ChaeKi avoided working together b/c one of them was rejected by the other doesn't seem logical, given how close they were to the very end of filming and how "protected" they were (expect when staff used ChaeKi BTS to beat another channel in the ratings contest) about ChaeKi throughout broadcast.
Normally, with such a popular pairing, there would be lots of requests for joint interviews/promos/CFs/photoshoots, etc. But ChaeKi did none of those since the days NG started filming. You can offer lots of reasons why this is, but the one I think makes most sense is that ChaeKi had incredible chemistry which started to blossom on set, to the point where cast/crew around them could tell the two were romantically interested in each other, and there was no reason to fan the flames with the media/audience, b/c everyone could see their chemistry plainly. When it is so obvious of ChaeKi's chemistry and growing friendship, why would they need to do media play? Normally, it's the pairings who lack natural chemistry who need the extra push or media play to get audiences invested (since they don't have enough sparkle onscreen to pull audiences). Contrarily, NG staff were probably all hoping speculations don't get out of hand where it interferes the actors/production involved.
It's super late, but since it's Memorial weekend, I'm babbling in the wee mornings of the night. Lols, anyways, miss y'all, Toasts. I'm still anxiously awaiting CW's next project - she's already broken her promise to fans to try to come back asap this year - so her next project better be awesome. Lols. At least JK is busy with CFs - quickest and most profitable money for an actor - he's thinking about saving up for marriage all right.) The guy sure is dependable and practical. ) -

Anoosha has taken the role of "nonbeliever" to balance some of our believers' ramblings. At times she's simply posting comments for the sake of disagreeing - as is her role to bring balance to our thread
) . There is a CW bias in this couple thread b/c most of us relate better to a girl's feelings, but I can assure you there are those who love and are learning to love JK. So Joongie is not getting any hate from Toasts, but rather most of us just lament how unfair S. Korean entertainment treats actresses in scandals...which is why many of us hope JK treats CW well...as if to compensate for the additional "pain" CW may suffer if their relationship causes a scandal. Doubt happens all the time to even the most faithful believers of ChaeKi. In the end, as long as our intentions are good, I think we can allow some doubt at times. If all else fails, we'll just get the mosquito squatter. ^-^
@kathykel Any collab with a great co-star and script is all I'm wishing for now. Binnie and Chae Wonnie's collab can wait. I just want to see our girl again. Where is she hiding herself? And why is it taking her so long to get back to work? And @anoosha ...don't tell me it's a broken heart b/c our girl is stronger than that. [-X She would have dashed headlong into her work to get over a "broken heart" if she had one.)
@katlynago Awww, that's so sweet of you. I think CW has a great intuitiveness to her and an awesome learning/fighting spirit. Experiences, like the bad ones, only gives her momentum to charge through. So as Moonlights and Penguins, we need to stay by her side to support her and believe in her. She'll get through it b/c of our belief and support. More than anything, love is about believing and trusting someone. And I definitely love (trust) CW.
@Charm If that's what CW is thinking - that she'll have 2 years to concentrate on her career while JK is in the army so she better spend a couple more months with him now - well...that's silly. She'll have plenty of time to spend with him afterwards. She should be more fair, 6 months with her love, and 6 months with us. NG ended 7 months ago, so where is she?! Now I know how @jeonghyang feels - I feel like CW is cheating on us.) -
@katlynago To be honest, even as a longer fan of JK, I've really learned a new side to him this past year, just as the same with CW. As a Moonlight, I was worried about CW in the beginning when I started to suspect something between ChaeKi, but now...I no longer see it quite so grimly. It's true dating rumors always backlashes on the females more in S.Korea, but it is also a test. Like @Charm said, if their connection/bond/relationship during the NG filming can't survive it, then it's not meant to be...but you can't dismiss the journey just b/c the destination isn't what you had envisioned. I think it's precisely due to the journey that helps people learn and develop.
There is always a negative and positive side to a situation, it only depends on how you see it and react to it. Whether or not JK and CW are dating is irrelevant to the bigger picture...it's the experience of bonding during special times in their life together. NG was a special drama. Writer Lee, Director Kim, Cinematographer Baek, LKS, the whole cast was special to JK and CW - this experience was special. A collaboration like this is hardly the norm in the Kdrama industry. It's why I think it's so perfect in its timing. Love needs timing: meeting the right person at the right time in your life.
So if there is a "falling out" after NG ended between ChaeKi, at least there were the memories. And if a scandal breaks out with CW being the brunt of fangirl attacks, at least she'll have JK. JK has very protective instincts, and not just attributed to having a little sister. There is no doubt in my mind he would fully support and protect his girlfriend. And yes, I absolutely agree with @Charm that Joongie would be the one more in love. The guy has high standards, so once he's found someone he can genuinely admire and love, it's going to be hard for him to look at anyone else. And CW...lols...we don't call her the Queen for nothing. She has a strong will, love will not turn her into a sap or weakling.
Again, I have to say that if fans disregard JK and CW connection/bond, then they really are discrediting their own idol. It's not to say JK or CW are perfect people with ingenious emotional intelligence. However, they are quite smart and enlightened individuals. Smart people knows true survival in such a "dirty and competitive" industry means they need a strong and sincere support team of friends and mentors. So far, fans should know that both JK and CW have chosen very select group of people as close allies and friends. That should give Toasts an idea of what is genuine and sincere with JK and CW. To doubt ChaeKi's bond really is doubting JK and CW's sincerity, intelligence, and moral character. That doesn't mean you need to believe ChaeKi are dating, it just means you need to believe in CW and JK's judgement on people and their own behavior. If you believe JK and CW have the intelligence and character to be wonderful and long-lasting actors in the industry, then spread that faith to their personal lives as well. As a Moonlight bias (sorry JK, I just love my actresses more), I trust CW will know who she can open up to, lean on, and befriend.
On an off-topic note, all of my admired and/or loved actors are coming back! Lols, there are just so many opportunities for our Chae Wonnie - so stop lazing around and get back to work. I don't care if you'll have two years of army time to concentrate on your career, we're dying here. -
@anoosha I go to take a break to work and come back to this? LMAO. Oh, the lengths you go to sustain a sense of (ir)rationality for this forum. I don't think JK and Seo dated, but I do believe there was a connection there. It's not in a romantic sense, but more of a friendly bond especially later on when JK seemed to have some issues with his ex-girlfriend. Like @idom and @Charm have said, JK's reaction to CW is something I rarely have seen from him. Of course, that's probably b/c he's been dating outside of the entertainment circle. Yet still, this kind of...giddiness - like that of a schoolboy - is truly consistent only with CW. He isn't like that once or twice, but consistently when he's with her. That says something...and I'm a big believer of consistency.

@Charm Actually, for some time I suspected Seo and JK. There was something unspoken between them that piqued my interest. When early fan speculations of JK and The Girl Who Shall Not Be Named came out in 2011 that they had started dating, I dismissed them b/c I was focused on JK and Seo. I'm not sure what it was, but there was just something about the two at the time that really caught my attention - it was an aura. Of course, this is just my intuition speaking. Nothing at all like the evidences ChaeKi themselves showcased to us, and the almost overwhelming chemistry they have with each other. BTW, how do you remember the dates of when I post things? Gosh, I would not have the patience to dig up old posts like that. Speaking of which, gotta run, tons of work to do. :-*

@anoosha I'm not trying to paint rainbows and unicorns, or pen a fairy tale. Of course, I'm not psychic either. Hey, I'm sure there are a number of Korean celebrities who initiate frequent intimate skinship behind the scenes like ChaeKi, never talk about each other or do a CF after a successful drama run and voted 2nd most wanted CF celebs...and obviously, relatively young, hot, popular stars like JK are thinking/concerned about making money in case of marriage and actually say that of their own accord to a journalist. Yep, I'm sure it happens all the time in Korea...just give me several months to find someone that fits this profile. I may not be resourceful, but I know of a couple of people who could be hired by the CIA...I'll get back to ya.
@cedricgordon Our mosquito is just trying to increase page count and inject some irrationality into the forum, b/c we're obviously not delusional about all the intimate skinship ChaeKi commits on set...or their sharing of catch phrases. It's not like we can telepathically force them to touch each other or recite each others' words. We're special, but not that special.

I'm also very happy after reading his interview. Another aspect I found particularly illuminating was his reveal of how important this past year has been to him, not response/popularity-wise but experience and people. These 2 works have really given him a high point in his experiences so far...and who has been there to share it with him? I really couldn't have planned their collaboration any better than this. If I had known my darlings would be able to meet and bond this extraordinarily, I would have pined less for a collaboration - totally a waste of my energy. ) I've said how precious it is that ChaeKi have met at very significant points in their lives. It's no wonder this kind of bond makes JK think of marriage. I believe he thinks he's found "the one." :x -

@anoosha It's like Charm said, fans were trying to get to the bottom of that anonymous picture so they enlarged SJK's pupils and completed CIA approved analytical tactics to determine the type of phone used, height/shadow of the picture-taker, and of course the sex of the picture-taker...taking in full consideration of JK's environment and body language at the time. Lols, oh, the resourcefulness of fans. It's no wonder news of CW's new white phone got so much attention with fans shortly afterward. K fans think it's why CW's me2day was closed - afraid it would link to her new "private" phone and cause a scandal similar to IU's, which had been a hot topic just a few weeks prior to CW's closing of her me2day. So Ms. Doubtful, what is your comeback today?)

@Charm I personally think ChaeKi do not go out together, or if they do, they definitely go to remote countrysides. Remember that photo of JK with the red couch that was uploaded by an anonymous person on DC the night before CW shut down her Me2day? Well, there's enough CIA photo investigation to essentially prove that it was a person with small physique (girl) wearing white (or light colored shirt) with short-short hair who had taken that photo (at the time, there wasn't confirmation CW had chopped off all her hair - we knew about her haircut afterward). From that point on, I pretty much assumed ChaeKi were staying indoors to avoid the paparazzi. Sis, you did a marvelous post on JK's new found love for the word "happiness" - a word many of us Moonlights are very familiar with.
And yes, I do believe JK would go to many lengths to protect CW, much less some out of pocket money to pay to the paparazzi.
@Mul I'm just happy he's happy, b/c that means she's happy. Lols. This wouldn't be so convoluted if our girl just came back earlier you know. She said she's going to try to come back as early as possible, unlike last year. Yet, it's almost May and she still doesn't have a project? How is this different from last year? Our girl needs to get her priorities straight. :-w

@Charm Oh yes, ChaeKi is laying low, but I want them to be invisible to the paparazzi. I really don't know how SJK does it, b/c I'm sure there's several people tailing him at any given time due to his immense popularity, and that's not even including the sasaeng fans. How ever he is keeping his private life hidden, I hope he gets lots of luck to keep it up. No way do I want his hard-earned money to have to go to the paparazzi or worse he and his loved ones exploited. So I'm also praying for ChaeKi's love and luck. BTW, I haven't forgotten a reply, just been distracted. I'll get back to you soon. >

@mul I so miss seeing 2moons together. They are so sweet and cute when they are together. But it's going to be interesting b/c there have been scandals created just by celebrity friends sending food carts to the set...so I don't know how ChaeKi is going to deal w/ supporting their BFFs. -

@Charm It's actually very normal for SS and Dispatch to sell rumors to people/mgmt teams for the highest bid. It's a long tradition. But recently, there is a trend to exchange for other news and tidbits instead of paying money to buy the news back. I also think JIS & KMH's news was negotiated. A teaser for a big reveal worries stars & their mgmt teams. Everyone will try to go through the back door of Dispatch to ask who the couple is...and when people find out, there is always negotiating. SS & Dispatch know to always have at least a backup scandal/rumor, if not several, in case deals are made. JIS and KMH could very well have been a backup "scandal."
Yes, I'm also waiting for the "someday" but in the meantime I want ChaeKi to lie low and enjoy each others' company. I wonder how long it'll take JK to furnish his new house - it should have been pretty fast considering S.Korea's efficiency right? Well, he's got a new hiding place at least.

@allaboutmissb I wouldn't say O2 shippers are delusional, but they definitely don't have the "evidence" we have about our ChaeKi. I think O2 have great chemistry onscreen for TWTWB, but offscreen...there is a distance between them. It's in their body language and interactions. This is where CW's "merely colleagues" term comes into play. It's not that O2 aren't friendly, but rather it's just being friendly. I have seen their BTS's and the way they look at each other, their body language, and skinship just isn't the same. So, we're not as delusional as you think.
I'm so relieved it's not ChaeKi. Perhaps it's b/c I have more faith about ChaeKi's closeness and relationship, so I absolutely do not want their relationship to be revealed before they are ready to do so. I agree with @silvertopresident that JK is going to be even more cautious of his relationship. Why does the image of JIS calling JK and LKS over for drinks and lamenting/sharing their dating woes keep popping up in my head.)

@anoosha Hahaha, I didn't mean offers weren't going to come to CW just b/c she cut her hair. It was more of an observation about her mental state. Like a few have said, I think CW is a very natural girl, so despite whatever hair technologies are available now, she'll still want to stick with being natural. It's just intriguing CW chooses this specific time to chop off most of her hair...like she's said she's wanted to do. Personally, when a girl chops off her hair like CW does, it means an emotional makeover. Something in her life has given her the desire or drive to make such a physical change to her appearance - something she's wanted to do for quite some time but haven't. Personally, I think it's confidence. Something in her life has given her enough confidence to cut off so much of her hair. Of course, @Charm and I also speculate there's a bit of "oh, work can wait" attitude about this.
Lols, it may seem like a lot to be speculating for just a simple hair cut. People get haircuts all the time. However, celebrities, particularly popular stars, do not change their appearances lightly. There is a purpose, a reason for physical changes. It ties to image presented, work requirements, management considerations, etc. A whole complication of issues - K Ent is anything if not complicated. Granted, CW is a strong-willed girl with a very understanding management team, but I have to wonder why the sudden courage to cut off so much when it wasn't necessary. Even if split ends were the problem, there are ways to remedy it without such a drastic cut. I guess my focus has always been on CW's emotional well-being, so I want to think something in her life gave her the confidence/drive to do something she's wanted to do for a long time. :-?>-
) As always, shipping is really about the joy and friendships we've experienced and not about the happily ever after. Whether or not ChaeKi may end up in happily wedded bliss is irrelevant to the wonderful feelings and experiences ChaeKi-shipping has given to us. The warmth we've gotten from watching ChaeKi is real, the friendship we've establish here is real, and so is the impact to our lives. Can I say that it was through shipping ChaeKi that my fiance and I got closer? Lols. So whatever happens, be thankful for the journey, and grateful for the friendships. CW is smart...and wise...have a little more faith in her ability to perceive and handle her friendships/personal relationships. Likewise, JK isn't stupid either. For a guy who is intellectually smart and emotionally aware, I think he'll know how to handle himself in public or otherwise.
