  1. @40somethingahjumma-really the case of the goose that lays the golden egg.  rofl.  Ciwen and Hunan TV were blinded by the success.  And yes, I so totally agree when I keep on being confused with ZE/CQ as a character, she ended up as an uninteresting enigma.  I just couldn't get her and I was so "sismance" her because of her badassery.  Like you go girl while having the push and pull interactions + feelings with YWY during her maid days.

I really don't see the problem of having extensions in the original PA.  Yes, Hunan TV has accepted the sponsors and maybe they if they were required to pay for liability damages due to the delay in broadcasting the next drama (the one after PA).  However, I'm affirmatively confident that they can always get back a lot more moolah with PA series extension.   It is the same in business, where sometimes we have to pay for certain charges due to a certain breaches of conditions but we would still forged ahead if the other show a more handsome alternative outcome.

Moreover, Hunan TV is the biggest station in Mainland China, they called the shots *shrugs* so I don't see any problem if they were to have a work-around towards this issue.

Add:  I'm sorry if my earlier post sounded self-righteous.  At the end of the day, it is really up to the artists + Ciwen + Hunan TV to come to a decision whether to work on PA2.  But if they (the artists) were to do so, I hope they have as thick as encyclopedia for their agreements to safeguard their arts and name an obscene fee plus with a certain % of profit cut.   Ooooh since ZLY was the one who initiated SD and LQX was on board because of her as well, ZLY should (in the first place) to be credited as executive producer.  Then she would have some involvement in post production in the normal practice of film industry

I want them to collaborate in future projects definitely.  But @The_Joker, I need LGX, ZLY and SD to do PA2 for no one other than LGX and ZLY especially can reprise the roles of YWY and XE to give fans full satisfaction.  Further,  if there is indeed a PA2 i would still watch it if its the same main leads in it just so i can get complete closure.

I understand from your perspective because all of us here love PA and the interactions of all the leads.  They made the characters came alive that was why we commented, argued and theorised because we care about each of them.  We treasured and cherished the OTP in PA.  So, I truly understand where you're coming from and you have the right to ask for fulfillment and closure.

I'm just reflecting of how they must be feeling, after hard toiled, sweat, injury, physically and emotionally drained but they were happy and proud of what they have achieved.  But to be caught blindsided and got to know what the end product was like after post production, since they have rehearsed the scenes, re-memorised the endless scripts changed, it would be such a terrible disappointment and disheartened.  I also do not wish to pressure these actors and actress to feel that they owe it to the fans (me) to reprise their roles because they have done it right the first time around.  Moreover, they would probably need to work with the same film crews especially the directors and writers, basically these actors/actresses need to repressed their discontentment to work for another maybe 120 days.  Personally, I don't think I would have the heart to watch it after knowing the conditions/situation.

Dear Me... so many! Okay, I'll do my best...

Missing Scenes (according to what's stated here)

    1. After the lantern festival/meet, XE was pursued to be murdered by the Afterlife Camp, YWY saves her.

    2. YWY teaches XE to write

    3. YWY teaches XE to use the flying contraption

    4. XE's fake death rescue

    5. After XE's fake death, YWY drinks and reminisces about XE (accompanied by a monologue)

    6. YWY's development at the border (Yeah, I was wondering about this)

    7. After YWY and XE exchange swords, XE goes back to YX's place and sees the bell (accompanied by monologue)

    8. Dialogue between YWY and XE when fighting in the palace

    9. Discussing the bell during the one day spent as maid and when bandaging the cut

    10. Monologue after XE returns to YX's place when she completes one day as (YWY's) maid

    11. Spa/Bathroom kiss contains internal monologue by both parties. They spend the night on the same bed. The next day, YWY combs XE's hair

    12. XE beats the Yue guards unconscious to rescue Minister Liang

    13. During YWY's force kiss of XE, there's an internal monologue from XE. After this there's deep painful sadness expressed by both parties in respective internal monologues

    14. After XE returns to Yanbei she meets up with Mr Wu

    15. XE's internal monologue as she plays the bili flute

    16. Battle between YWY and YX at Chang'an

    17. YWY rescues XE at Hong Chuan city and gets injured (I think)

    18. Kissing scene at Shan Shen temple

    19. Extended scene of YX's plan to kill YWY (I think)

    20. How XE breaks YX's trap

    21. Icy lake scene between both parties (Not sure which two. Most probably XE and YX)

    22. Scene after the icy lake

Based on the list above, I think there's a high possibility it is true.  For combing of XE's hair, it was YWY who chose her dress and he did mentioned twice to make-up to look like a lady while giving the dress to XE and afterwards when YWY stood behind XE looking at her in the mirror.

I can picture YWY with his deadpan look just take the comb and start to comb XE's hair initially because knowing her, XE would have rebel just for the sake of it.  Such as wore the dress but refused to make-up.  So YWY combed the her hair before she maybe wrestled the comb then finally pretty herself up.

Wow...from the cut scenes, can easily see aside from callously butchering XE/CQ's character until she became opaque.  LQX's scenes got cut severely as well especially with him being self-represent (his name is not attach to any big names agencies). Even with such reduced scenes, the fandom still in throes with the OTP.  Both should be proud with their talent since they were able to convey convincingly all the emotions for us to root for their characters.

I also remembered the monologues (the handful of them) from YWY, XE/CQ and YX as mentioned by @40somethingahjumma

    Add:

I think the cut footage will be used in the PA2 so basically if Ciwen mentioning to get hold of the same casts, just a statement for statement sake because they can easily make about 10-12 episodes from the unused footage scenes.  Because started from episode 20 above the transitioning from one scene to another was abrupt and choppy.  Hiring new casts to take on the side roles would be piece of a cake for Ciwen.  Just imagined how much many money and profit both Ciwen and Hunan TV are able to grab from this series.

LQX was truly splendid in PA because his cold demeanor and on top of the cut scenes but yet he was able to take and make YWY's character to be understood by the viewers, I'm really glad and he so richly deserve all the accolades to become the media darling now.  Hope he break the box-office and thumb his nose to Ciwen and Hunan TV.

Personally, I really hope all the 3 leads - ZLY, LQX and SD would not come back to shoot for PA2 but instead to collaborate in other future projects.  I also would like to see ZLY take on the role as producer like Fan Bing Bing in Empress of China.

  4. @ces8-  In my state I'm still on the bargaining stage...Yeah I would love to believe on that rumored  PA season 2 and take that ride or die journey again...I feel restless...As a fan I also need a decent closure.

I didn't know that I was going to be this emotionally invested in the character of YWY or adding on another thespian (LQX) in my list of favourite because I try to be selective and thought to wean off LQX by watching his other body of work e.g., I liked his portrayal of low key Ah Chi and the smooth heir / Young Master Hsieh Shao Feng.   At the same time, he was able to express his vulnerabilities and how thorn he was when he was directed by his father to assassinate the other sword master.  I guess this movie was the platform where he elevated further his acting skill to deliver YWY's character with full of nuance.

Black and White - I enjoyed the kind of old married couple with LQX as the nagger to MC but the plot in this movie is paper thin but the viewers got swept off with the high impact actions from the word go.

I salute the fans who have faith in Ciwen and Hunan TV for PA2 with the plot based on the novel adaption:grin: .  You may put a label on this as the result of occupational hazard but I won't put any hope or trust in PA2 because as I've said in my earlier post, I think the writers will be stretching the plot until it will go haywire and all over the place without any direction.

There's a high chance the same repeat performance of what happened in PA1 be migrated to PA2, rushed closure, no proper ending or better still an end for ending sake.  Besides even the thought of watching PA2, I already felt haunted and worried , waiting for the axe to fall at the end of the drama series.

Hugs and pat your back...aawwww dearie:heart:.  But can't you channel your attention to another of your favourite activity?  I sometimes went cold turkey from the drama world when I'm gripped by certain movies, dramas or mesmerised by the excellent portrayal of the actor/actress in their roles. Or go on binge re-watch PA and all the OTP scenes until you're desensititised yourself.

@40somethingahjummaI don't doubt that a lot of what has happened is driven by greed and there's probably a lot more footage floating around somewhere in somebody's vault.

Suddenly, I'm imagining that at the Ciwen CEO's house where the PA footage is being kept and during the middle of the night, the wife and mother in law are busy watching the series with unaired scenes while fangirling over YWY.

@gentlelily12- no problemo and I got the gift of gab

By the way, the 1st time I saw the pictorial shoots of LQX and ZLY in the CosmoBride, I'm struck by how both have similar features actually. *Points* to @mrsyooknitsignature.

@HapiangleI watched The K2 due to Ji Chang Wook also because I was balled over by the magic of Healer.  The K2 is packed with slicked actions but from JCW's interviews, I got the feeling that he wasn't happy and satisfied with that drama.  Suspicious Partners (SP), initially it was a good laugh but went off tangent.  I took a detour while waiting for SP to finish airing before binge watch and ended up here watching and faithfully following PA.

@jolin_chan- firstly thank you for all the news sharing and translation:wub:.  I love the random comments from LQX, he can really sprout stuff on top of his head:wub:.  And you're a wonderful crack dealer in feeding our addiction on the OTP.:lol:

But you can easily see that the tips of his ears were flaming red though.

@maven2555 .- A hah! Are you undercover spy working for Ciwen or Hunan TV?  Just imagined with your alternate ending, these two companies would be laughing all the way to the BANKS.  It is like they have the goose that lay the golden egg, why just stopped at PA2 because you've given them the brilliant plot...PA would never end .

I think I shall start god of war .. is it okay? I have to get my fix ... I need LGX ...

I'm on tenterhooks whether to start watching God of War too.  The thing that kept holding me back is the heroine, I suffered through The K2 (korean drama) due to her.  I would binge on LQX's movies first then decide his dramas later.

For those that asked on recommended dramas.  These are my selected choices in random order and the dramas are personal perspective of mine.

    Spoiler

    C-Drama:

    1) Princess Pearl - oldie but gold

    2)  General and I - not too heavy on the melodrama, lots of tonsils hockey for a Wuxia drama and just go with the flow for its CGI and body double.

    3)  Princess Wei Yuoung - great acting from LouJin who can utter cheesy and corny lines but make them seem natural but tendency to be typecast and good villains who can make you root for them still.  But the damsel in distress plot that were on rinse and repeat did wear out my patience a bit.

    4)  Nirvana In Fire - the 1st four episodes basically  the introductions of the characters with their present and past (backstories) interwoven while being forced down your throat.  Then smooth sailing with tinge of bittersweet of the every types of relationship you can think of - bromances, alliances, family and romance, though it is not romance themed but bits and pieces is there.

    5)  You Are My Sunshine -  about 1/3 is sloth  like plot with the female lead being so lifeless but after flashback of their younger days (I like the younger heroine cast) and both leads get together...it starts to be on fire.

    6)  The Journey of Flower - I like the relationship between the female lead and Demon Lord but I watched it with quite a lot of fast forwarding.

    7)  Ten Miles of Peach Blossom - I like the 1/3  of the whole story.  Too much of deities and demigods plus their petty problems, battles between good and evil, the pinnacle of love between main leads and they have a son but I was taken aback on how indifferent BaiQian towards her child.  Conclusion: I fast forward a lot more in this drama as compared to my watching The Journey of Flower.

    8)  Love Me If You Dare - quite a favourite of mine since the plot has everything comedy, thriller and suspense, romance and drama.  The thing that marred my enjoyment was the antagonist who was cartoonish in his  portrayal of the villain.  I enjoyed both the novel and drama.

    9)  When A Snail Falls In Love - this is when the novel was better because I feel the heroine (XuXu) who was a brainiac. mechanical, socially introvert and tend to get lost in her thoughts became inanimate object as depicted by the actress in the drama.  Furthermore, the crimes became too draggy because they were all inter-connected until I felt the whole drama has a single crime only, which in essence it was and rooted from JiBai's (the male lead) backstory.

    10)  Perfect Couple - the  first 1/3 was hilarious, second 1/3 bearable but the final 1/3 the plot tried so hard to recapture its 1st part charm and failed miserably.

    11) Loving Never Forgetting - sloth like plot with irredeemable jerkwad character in the male lead and I watched about 5-6 episodes in between fast forwarding.

    12) Prince of LangLing - fair entertainment value with too unbelievable Mr Nice Guy and blind loyalty characteristics of LangLing Wang.  The speech pattern of the heroine  another thing that jarred my drama watching.

    Korean Drama:

    1) Healer - smooth pacing and smart plot.  The main leads always on the same page and great chemistry.  This drama is gold for me and it has every element plus an overall excellent acting from the whole casts.

    2)  Time Between Dog And Wolf - brilliant dual personalities by Lee Joon Gi and watching this I feel City Hunter was a child's play.

    3)  Deep Rooted Tree - bravo

    4)  My Name Is Kim Sam Soon - comedy gold with lots of hearts and valuable message.

    5)  The K2 - after the 3rd episodes totally ignore the female lead that's how I was able to appreciate the drama.

    6)  City Hunter - the foreplay was wonderful but after they shoved Kim NaNa trajectory it went downhill and I was never able to complete watching its last 2 or 3 episodes.

    7)  Arang and The Magistrate - for the love of Lee Joon Gi because when Arang found out about herself, that's when she lost herself as well.

    8)  Coffee Prince - comedy gold with hearts as well and when you love someone that's all that matter regardless of gender.

    9)  Sungkyunkwan Scandal - the bromance

    10) Reply 1997 - nostalgic and wonderful

    11)  Sassy Go Go - even highschoolers have healthier relationship because they communicate

    12) The Beautiful Mind - anti-hero who learn how to love

    13) Friends, Our Legend - Hyun Bin at his best and from friends to foes, it was a gripping drama but the emotional journey was worth it.

    14)  My Girlfriend Is A Gumiho - sweet fantasy romance

    15)  Two Weeks - parental love transcend everything

    - I'll stop here for kdrama.

    Taiwanese Drama:

    1) Autumn Concerto - 1/2 half was a bit dramatic but the plot has bits of everything and the wonderful bond between the main leads with their son who was wise beyond his years, such a cheeky lil man.

    2) It Started With A Kiss - I prefer the series as compared to its second series They Kiss Again.

  7. I stayed on because of YWY where I gritted my teeth to plod on with PA while keeping vigil on the meager crumbs of YWY scenes especially at the end of the second and the early third parts of the drama. His cameos, sometimes if I were to blink I'll miss him.

Presently, I'm going through the stages of grief and I welcome that the fandom is going through it as well :tongue:B). Misery loves company.

Firstly, came the denial. Was that it, the finale no..nope it can't be. We have committed and invested substantial amount of time and emotions. It's a dream, yup I'll wake up and PA has yet to be broadcast. Displaying the naivete of ChunEr.

Secondly, the anger, flipped  table, and cursed, Ciwen and Hunan TV the sworn enemies until their 7th generations. Logged on to forums and left colourful remarks. Plan to take over Ciwen and Hunan TV - a tribute to YX's revenge.

Thirdly, bargaining. Ciwen and Hunan TV, we are the fandom and you want to maintain the PA1 outstanding levels of success then PA2 is to maintain the thespians to reprise their roles. Gave the pills to Ciwen and Hunan TV, formed the online petition league  where they would be able to secure us as the audiences. Negotiate the terms and conditions as what YWY as the exemplary role model has done after he got hold of Past Life Camp.

Fourthly, depression... when are they going to start with PA2? Need gave the whole closures desperately. We are already on this path and share the common goals and dreams to see that justice is served to all the characters in PA1. The dogmatic beliefs of XE/CQ on YX and the utopian, YanBei.

Fifth and lastly is  the acceptance. Regardless  whether there's going to be PA2 or not,  there are moments in the finale that I'm contented with.  YX's going to the dark side. YS acknowledged the heinous act towards Yan Royal Household. The revelation for OTP where YWY got his confirmation that his XE loves him and for XE,  she gave her affirmation to him. Come what may even the whole of YanBei and YX but it has always been YWY who occupies her heart. A homage to YWY with his tower of silence strength and understanding to accept the complexities in loving XE while staying true to his principles.

Add:  This is just to poke fun at myself.  FYKI, I would not turn to watch PA2 even for the love of YWY and XE.

  8. @40somethingahjummaand @cenchingobviously Ciwen and Hunan TV couldn't give a fig about sustainability. And I also think it doesn't jive in the entertainment industry which primarily in the business of providing new sensation.

What I can only assume further,  both are giant in their industry so they have lots of muscles to flex around. They are in the business of producing and airing dramas that appeal to the mass public, with the sole focus on mainlanders. Maybe they believe they are the trend setters in their homeland and able to sway the fans acceptance.  Because sadly, news and excitement quickly become stale in the entertainment industry. Yes, the fans are all firing up now, and today but the anger will eventually fade when the next big hit appears around the corner.

I also got a sneaky suspicion that Ciwen has substantial scenes footage because ZLY was on set for 155 days and both male leads would more or less spent around the same number of days as well. So for the PA2, the editor can easily enough pieces those footage with the new scenes shooting that are build up of peripheral plots. That happened once in Hollywood movie but at the moment, I can't exactly recall, but what I did remember was, I was all super excited for the continuity and I get the ending after being led by the nose. The leads' scenes appeared like 1/2 hour before the rolling credits.

@matchamacchiato, thanks for the information. ZLY appeared in most the scenes and episodes of PA. And yup its norm having a few groups of camera crews and assistant directors.

@Florina Culincuit's good to get out of your system.

Did LGX really lie in that magazine interview? If so....I'm a little mad at his pretty face!!!

I can only give you a general perspective since I have some experienced in being in the team when the Bank that I was working with became the main financier for several movies and dramas.

Some actors / actresses have some involvement in post production if they were in the capacity as executive producers due to their creative or financial roles. Otherwise, they wouldn't know the outcome of the product.

The main directors are the 2nd highest in terms of position in the food chain of the overall film crews. They have the autonomous decision pertaining to the creative aspect of the product. They would be involved in the post production process such as editing because for the continuity of creative decisions and considerations eg  additional footage shots required even though technically all the casts have completed their scenes and takes  etc.

However, at the end of the day,  the producers from the production houses are at the top of the chain and ultimately call the shots because they own the creative license of the films and dramas  where the directors will have to abide by the judgement calls from the producers.

As a result, mostly well-known and established directors nowadays put on the producers' hats because they want to ensure the final products are the result of and stay true to their creation.

Going back to your remarks whether LQX lied in the magazines:

    1) Based on the shot scenes and their transition, PA should have a happy ending with CQ discovering her inner ice/cold power and most likely with a time jump. Though we won't get the YWY's kingdom and procreation of their 3 kids. But mostly the marrying of life ideals between YWY and XE.

    2) LQX was only an actor and not the executive producer so he wasn't to know how the finale was going to be panned out.

    3) His reputation will be pegged down especially with his explosive and massive recognition that he is receiving from PA, presently. Even though he seems to be a happy,  free and easy going chap but likeability is crucial in his profession. Because it will determine his future projects and advertising endorsements. He has wisely maneuver his career on his own without attaching his name with big agencies. I definitely don't think he will lie to jeopardize himself.

@The_Joker I agree...Bottom line is, it's really all about the money...Hunger games kinda thing...what an injustice!

@ces8yes, I'm all for capitalism but it needs to be balanced with new economy.

There are ways to generate incomes especially after all the hard work from all involved, and fair is fair.

Then there are also ways to make money *points* to the mobsters who manoeuvred the bts PA. I detested them mobs to puppeteer me, and once is more than enough.

I don't want to sit through a further 40-50 episodes that in actual fact about 10 (a generous max) worth their weight in gold in terms entertainmentand plot value for definite closures to all the characters in PA.

Last but not least, for me, I don't consider  it a waste of time spent in watching PA because I was able to get to know what a revelation LQX is and his beautiful symphony with ZLY. I've also have fallen in love with its fandom. So, I  thank you for giving me the opportunity to meet and knowing  you here

  11. @Florina Culincu- nice to meet you too.

I'm turning in for today. But I'll linger for a while in this thread as well.

It was a real pleasure getting to know and post differing opinions and revelations making the whole journey worthwhile since obviously the finale of PA is NOT.

Someone mentioned Scarlet Heart (Korean version) yup the ending where both never get to meet and we get the closure of their brief happy moments. Pouring the salt into the wound.

I'll miss YWY and his sizzling chemistry with XE, I'm happy to be introduced by LQX as an actor and his personality is hilarious and an adorable dork.

Again, thank you for your company and the great fun we have in here. Hope, we'll meet again in this or other threads.

Translations of his caption of that post : Finished, just want to say to you, either it's goodbye or see you again?

Possibly season 2 and maybe he will return to star in it with ZLY???

After the 1st forehead kiss, YWY did slightly nod his head that he'll wait and to continue on living.  I'm masochist but that's my ending for this OTP.

I have a foreboding with PA2...with things going on right now... In history, sequels usually have difficulty in surpassing the supremacy of the first chapter...I think we are really doomed since PA1 was botched...:rage:

But in history, people tend to have short lived memory.  With the craving for YWY-XE/CQ-YX, I'm pretty sure quite a number would turn in for PA2.  The question now would be, how fast can the team round-up all the main casts for PA2 in order to keep riding on the fans bouyancy of PA1?

But for me, I don't like this kind of cheap shot and I have seen enough of their one trick pony for another run of the mill.  So I'll be on the lookout for ZLY and LQX other body of works.  Hopefully, they are able to team up again.

    The last bts of PA

This bts vid is making me awfully sad and feel so bad for these creative thespians who must be feeling wretched.  If we (the viewers) felt cheated, they have all been filming for months and we can also clearly see the last scene was such emotionally draining but instead of showcasing their masterpiece and hard work, it all went into the dump due to merciless grubby hands.

The original writer, I wonder the novelist take on this c-drama outcome.

  16. Yes, I realised that too, and I also think that the agencies (from the entertainment production house until Hunan TV) have more than enough scenes footage for easily 10 episodes.  Especially in view of the plots/scenes transition that were butchered.  I have been at my utmost patient, trying to make do with what little crumbs thrown but this ending? Really... my inner hulk wanted to raise its ugly head and flip the table and stomp on the bunch of hopeless twerps.  *Giving the Director a stinky eye* since he is in charge of making creative decision up till post production.

  17. Wow...an ending without an end.  Bunch of arses.  We've all been taken for a ride...

I don't want to watch second season if these are the tricks the whole PA director and writers are playing us for a fool.

Would it really broke the bank if they were to extend it for a somewhat closure?  After such a trial with PA and our leads then these people have the nerves to flip the birdie to us.

PA really wins the crapstatic award and pox on those lots...what a bunch of human carcasses - Director, Writers, Hunan TV and Ciwen Entertainment, Croton Media and Mitao Media
