  1. Jung Hae In Shares Why He Continues To Act, How He Became Close With Lee Je Hoon + What He’s Like As A Director, And More

    Jung-Hae-In-7.jpeg

In a recent interview with GQ magazine, Jung Hae In spoke about his upcoming film, friendship with Lee Je Hoon, and more!

Jung Hae In’s upcoming short film “Blue Happiness” is a part of the “Unframed” project, a series of short films directed by actors. “Blue Happiness” is directed by Jung Hae In’s close friend Lee Je Hoon and follows the story of people in their 20s and 30s navigating stock trading.

The interviewer mentioned that the starting point of this film was what people these days were most passionate about, and Jung Hae In agreed, adding, “Whether it’s real estate, stocks, or cryptocurrency. However, I think I was cast because none of those applied to me.”

He continued, “I think that’s why Je Hoon kept me in mind. We were casually talking about this kind of thing in a personal setting when I said, ‘I don’t know anything about stocks.’ I wonder if he kept a closer eye on me because I’d said that.”

As the two actors have never worked on a project together before, Jung Hae In was asked how they became friends. He answered, “A few years ago, I went to a national soccer match in Sangam-dong where we met coincidentally and I greeted him. After that, we naturally became close.”

Jung Hae In also touched on what a passionate person Lee Je Hoon is, sharing, “I’m a bit curious about what Je Hoon is like at work [as an actor]. I want to meet him as actor to actor. You know how there are people who are different when you meet them in a personal meeting versus when you meet them at work? I feel that Je Hoon definitively differentiates between business and pleasure. He’s a precise person.”

He added, “[Lee Je Hoon] is more detail-oriented than I am. I’ve now experienced a set that he’s led as a director, and he approaches all the actors, not just me, in an extremely detailed manner. Since he’s originally an actor, he approaches us with a better understanding of an actor’s point of view. How should I put it? It was easier to understand [what he was saying] because he would talk to us from the player’s perspective.”

Regarding a similarity between his “Blue Happiness” character Chan Young and his real-life personality, Jung Hae In explained, “Rather than talking while having your head in the clouds or having abstract discussions, I enjoy realistic discussions, talking about how to solve realistic situations, and talking about things happening today or tomorrow. Constructive discussions. Future-oriented discussions.”

Jung Hae In also shared that he and his character have the same view on life. He elaborated on that view, saying, “Living diligently. If you try hard every day and live diligently, there will be good results. Even if someone doesn’t recognize that, it’s okay. Also, not taking any chances and working hard.”

The interviewer added that the phrase his character Chan Young hears most in the film is, “Ugh, this innocent guy. How have you not changed at all?” Jung Hae In responded with a laugh and commented, “I’ll have to ask [Lee Je Hoon] later. If that was directed at me.”

The two also spoke about compliments that past directors have given Jung Hae In, particularly that he is very straightforward and honest. The interviewer asked whether he didn’t like hearing these comments, and the actor replied, “I don’t dislike it. They’re very good comments, and they’re also true. I want to express it as my commitment to work. The manner in which I approach work.”

He continued, “Ever since my debut, I’ve consistently asked myself, ‘Why does Jung Hae In act? Why are you doing this kind of work? Why are you continuing to do it?’ I keep asking these to myself. Ultimately, it’s because it’s fun, it’s enjoyable, and it makes me happy. However, the more I do it, I find that I don’t want to just be happy by myself, but also want the people watching and the people I work with to feel happy with me. At the end of the day, it’s not something you do on your own.”

He then remarked that in order to reach that happiness, the most important thing is self-esteem. On a scale from 1 to 100, Jung Hae In revealed that his self-esteem is at about 40 or 50 when he’s in the middle of filming. Explaining the low score, he commented, “It’s because I’m always running into obstacles and having a hard time. It’s not like I’m that good at acting. If there’s something I’m good at and something I’m bad at, I tend to rely [on others] for what I’m bad at. I request their assistance, ask them, ‘What would be better?’, and I tell my fellow actors and colleagues that it’s hard and that I need their help. The person I target most is the director. I’m always sending out an ‘SOS’ to my director. Because if I do that and the result is good, that’s a positive thing. It’s a good thing if what we made together turns out well.” He then added, “Right now, [my score is] 100 because I’m not currently in the middle of filming.”

Finally, for his keywords of 2021, Jung Hae In picked “working hard” and “trying new challenges.” He explained what counts as a new challenge by saying, “Everything. Every day is always a new challenge. Every project, every moment.”

“Unframed” is scheduled to be released in December 2021 via the OTT platform Watcha, while Jung Hae In’s upcoming drama “Snowdrop” will premiere on December 18 at 10:30 p.m. KST. Check out a teaser here!

  4. Shin Hyun Been, Goo Kyo Hwan, Kwak Dong Yeon, Nam Da Reum, And More Cast In New Horror Drama By “Train To Busan” Director

    Monstrous.jpg

Shin Hyun Been, Goo Kyo Hwan, Kwak Dong Yeon, Nam Da Reum, Kim Ji Young, and Park Ho San are confirmed to star in the new TVing drama “Monstrous” (literal title)!

“Monstrous” is about the people who are lured in by a curse from “that thing” that shouldn’t have come out into the world and tells the story of archaeologists who chase after monstrous cases that have never been heard of. As a village gets swept up in disaster with the discovery of a mysterious possessed statue of the Buddha, the confusion from the people who face the strange terror and the process of chasing after it will deliver great suspense to viewers.

The drama is penned by director Yeon Sang Ho, who directed “Train to Busan” and “Peninsula” and wrote the OCN drama “The Cursed,” as well as Ryu Yong Jae, who wrote “Pied Piper” and “My Holo Love.” It will be directed by Jang Gun Jae, who won Best Screenplay at the 16th Busan Film Critics Award and Best Director and Best Screenplay at the 3rd Wildflower Film Awards with the film “A Midsummer’s Fantasia.”

Goo Kyo Hwan will be playing the eccentric archaeologist Jung Ki Hoon, who researches bizarre supernatural phenomena. As Lee Soo Jin’s (Shin Hyun Been’s) ex-husband, he’s a figure whose life changed due to an unintentional incident. Jung Ki Hoon currently runs the occult magazine and YouTube channel titled “Monthly Ghost Story.” While researching the possessed statue of Buddha that appears in Jinyang county, he encounters an unbelievably strange phenomenon. Due to the powerful presence Goo Kyo Hwan has had in his previous works, viewers are looking forward to his upcoming transformation.

Shin Hyun Been will be playing the genius pattern cryptanalyst Lee Soo Jin, who ends up having to face the terrible disaster. After losing her only daughter, Lee Soo Jin puts down everything to return to Jinyang county where she begins to experience inexplicable events. Shin Hyun Been will portray the complicated feelings of her characters as she chases after an unknown yet terrifying truth.

Kim Ji Young will be playing the police officer Han Seok Hee. Although she has great charisma and leadership skills, she has more difficulty dealing with her son Han Do Kyung (Nam Da Reum) than she does with the petty criminals that visit the police station. She struggles to save her son from the terrible incident that takes place in the village. Kim Ji Young will use her experienced acting to make the drama even more realistic.

Park Ho San will be playing Kwon Jong Soo, the head of Jinyang county, where the disaster takes place. Kwon Jong Soo had been planning a new tourism business to help the town develop and flourish, but he falls into a state of loss due to the unexpected situation. With his unique way of stealing the spotlight, Park Ho San will impress with his powerful acting in “Monstrous.”

Kwak Dong Yeon will be taking on the role of Jinyang county’s troublemaker Kwak Yong Joo. With a defiant gaze and a problematic attitude, he’s a figure that appears twisted even from a single gaze. To Kwak Yong Joo, the terrible disaster that befalls the village is just another interesting story. Having garnered popularity through his recent drama “Vincenzo,” viewers are highly anticipating Kwak Dong Yeon’s next performance.

Amidst all the confusion in Jinyang county, the only person who doesn’t lose their resolve to be good is Han Do Kyung, who will be played by Nam Da Reum. Han Do Kyung is deeply intertwined with Kwak Yong Joo, who is displeased with him. Although Han Do Kyung wants to live an ordinary life without getting mixed up in noisy incidents, the disaster awakens his spirit of resistance. Already, viewers are looking forward to seeing how Nam Da Reum will capture the audience with the upcoming drama.

The production team of “Monstrous” shared, “We will showcase a supernatural thriller that’s on another level. Please look forward to the diverse group of people who will fall into a state of chaos and the synergy of the actors who will complete a unique world.”

“Monstrous” is slated to air via TVing in the first half of 2022.

@mademoisellesia thanks you for these information. I just remembered Choi Jun Hyuk who was descharged because he had a knee problem. Something he had before to be enlished.

It could be an underlying disease (so to speak) however I did a google and found this which reported that the knee injury was caused during military drills. I remember after discharge he went quiet for 2 years or so. Seo In Guk was the same. The observation/message I get is seems like they still have to disappear from the screen even though they aren't serving, otherwise it will enrage the Knetizens.

@mademoisellesia same, both YSJ and WDW enlisted last year, so I was really confused when after filming MRIAG he still didn't.

I initially thought he would be enlisting not later than his birthday this year, but maybe the Ministry of Defense was kind enough to let him finish his drama.

I honestly thought he's next and soon because he said so in his IG - the one he took together with WDH.

  6. @Heedong Yeah I thought he should have gone around the time his 92'er peers (Yang Se Jong & Woo Do Hwan) went. And then he went quiet for a long time so I thought maybe he was exempted (but not reported publicly as it is a sensitive issue when actors don't enlist).

@Pitchoum They have to do health checks first before enlisting. Usually that's when it is determined whether the man is fit for enlisting. The ones that is discharge after enlisting is usually the ones getting injured during serving.

For Ki Yong it is considered an OK that he will enlist after completing filming. The male lead of Let's Eat 3 didn't get a choice. The drama has to end early and without him because he was summoned to enlist.
