lol that's the problem with NTS
they're really incompetent, so we can take it as that while they were ALL distracted by the gunshot, randy got away (srsly though, they couldn't send 2 people to arrest randy? >_>)
I think perhaps Randy/Evil Ken Doll is now a double agent?

Wow! I'm enjoying reading this thread so much! Thank you all for the recaps, screencaps, thoughts and humor.
I gave up on the spy story ever making sense. Now I just smile or laugh, though I might cry in disbelief one of these days (jk). I watch the show in good fun. I'm also curious to see how the writers will handle the rest of the series. I confess that SH/JH keep me glued every time they're on screen. Their characters are flawed (thank goodness), but the actors make them so believable!
I agree with all the comments about SH: yes, the guy is a total psycho, you never know what he's going to pull next. He seems cool and calm on surface, his eyes are generally icy, but there is a fire underneath, a raging though calculated anger that seems to have built-up over years of abuse, oppression, sadness and frustration. I'm profoundly enjoying how Cha Seung Won renders SH as such an intense and complex personality. He is a cold killer, but I think JH brings/awakens his human (close to normal) side, one that is not that suspicious of others, one that makes him let his guards down (hm, in appearance), one that smiles, one that cares, one that does not look down on others. Have you noticed in episode 10...
... how he obviously doesn't take advantage of JH when she is down and drinking. On the contrary he stops her from drinking too much. First he took the bottle of liquor away, and had her drink coffee. Secondly, at some point he took her glass of wine away. On that shot we see his glass still full. Regardless of how many glasses he'd had before, it seems clear that he drank much less than her, and we saw him drive earlier, so it is safe to assume that he remained sober (maybe to take her safely home later). Oh, and the way he looks at her when she has her head in her hands!
Note also the conversation? The way he speaks to her is different from the way he speaks with any other people. He seems more relax. He doesn't act superior with her (he does in any other scenes, even with Director Kwon. Whenever he's around other high ranked male figures it reminds me of roosters in a barn ready to fight). In that regard, I feel as if he's showing her a respect he doesn't show others, not even HI (where it is again a dominant/dominé relationship). He more or less gives her advice...
As for what he has to gain by flirting, playing her? I don't think he's in it fishing for information. He has HI and so many other people infiltrating, apparently with ease, any department, offices, etc... JH is a field agent, but it's not as if she has the highest level of clearance. I think she's different from others, she doesn't appear to be scared of him and she doesn't act naive either. Maybe he's intrigued? Takes it as a little distraction?
Aaaaahhh, the bed scene. I'm joking here, but maybe the writers and director made it so short to spare us a heart attack? Ah ah! I liked the contrast of personality between SH/JH, and their interaction makes me hope, really hope, that there could be some redemption for SH, that whatever is left of him (his humanity) "could be saved." JH stands her ground with him (maybe it is what he finds appealing?). She can go head to head with him one day, and be totally feminine and hit on him the next. She owns her actions, maybe even what she feels in the moment, and so does he (he is so unapologetic).
My heart totally melted when she held his arm. I found the close up on their hands so symbolic: his is the hand of a killer. You see the roughness and the veins. It reminded me of the first episode when he kills his target. JH's is smaller, appears in the scene more delicate. She holds his hand and, though the camera stays only briefly on it, she actually caresses it. That's when SH takes control and prevent her from touching or holding him any further (were his inner walls starting to crackle a bit?)
Anyway, just my two cents. These two greatly save the show in my opinion. Love them!
I love your analysis, and yeah, the spy part of the story is just irrelevant to me now lol. It's mainly about the relationship between JH and SH that's keeping my interest. But I was really glad that the doctor was killed, but now there's this extra crap about piecing together the clues with JW.. I just shake my head. I feel though that the story is going to get better, because it seemed like it was slowly building up the plot.

Thanks lilcrash for the photos! Soo-ae is really pretty. Ever since I saw her in Emperor of the Sea, I've this idea of her as the teary-eyed-good girl. It might take some time to get used to her as a butt-kicking action hero...

Hey guys, please STOP whining about when the subs are coming out. Please read the forum rules about subs. It's not only you guys who are waiting for subs, a whole lot of us are also patiently waiting for them to be released, but you have to understand that the whole subbing process doesn't happen with the snap of your fingers. It's A LOT OF WORK. Coming here and moaning why the subs aren't released isn't going to make them come faster at all. It'll just annoy the subbers who are trying their best to push them out. They are doing this out of goodwill and not out of obligation, so let's be patient and respect that.
So please STOP whining about the lack of subs or you'll have the mod come and lock up this thread.
Ok ya'll - now this is just really annoying me. And Aziraphale beat me to it.
I know you all are impatient for the subtitles. We all want to watch it subbed. We don't want to resort to watching it raw, or with Chinese subs (unless we understand them). Viki is also making the series unavailable due to licensing issues.
However, I think it's unfair to continually post up on this thread asking for the subtitles. It is rude, and it is not helping this thread in having a lively discussion about the drama. Perhaps you may respond with, "But how can we discuss if we can't understand!?"
To that I say please wait patiently. And ATHENA is a drama that is loaded with action, not with words - it's not that hard to understand when Jung Woo Sung is kicking butt or not. It's a lot of work to subtitle a series - a lot. And the fact that a lot of videos on Viki are restricted makes it more difficult to find other subbers who are of QC status AND are available AND are fluent in Korean and English. As for WithS2 - they provide high quality subtitles - do you expect high quality subtitles to come out in 24 hours?
celint and trucalling27 have already kindly said that they will post up soft subs when the first two episodes are complete.
We don't want to keep posting up one liners asking about subs, or complaints because then this thread may close down too.
Please be respectful. Just because it's free does not mean you should be more demanding.
Sorry you guys, I didn't mean to come off as whiny and disrespectful. And I respect the work you guys do, seriously (I've donated to withs2 multiple times). I guess when you're able to watch shows subbed in less than a day, one can get spoiled. But it was to no offense. Athena is the only k-drama I've planned to watch this entire year and so yeah... anticipation+spoiledness= whininess

I really like Brian's album! I wish I could preorder it right now The autotuning isn't so bad were it distorts his voice. So far my fav. tracks are 2,3,4,5 (the ones I can remember off the back) This is definitely one of the best albums released in Kpop this year

I've just started to really like 2PM more than before. I loved their Again & Again song and fell in love with 10 out of 10 song, though now I'm really liking 2PM for their latest album (which I just bought!) It was pretty sad to see Jaebeom leave the group, and although I didn't understand how devastating it was to the group at first, I completely see it now. Even so, I still really like 2PM and hope Jaebeom comes back. But so far, Taecyeon has really caught my eye... I love his cute but closet sexy guy. I also like Junsu and Nickhun (I need to remember the other guys names :x) ... so yeah I just wanted to introduce myself to this thread, as I'll definitely be visiting more often to feed my newfound interest in 2PM!!

hi mira,
i'm always around but nothing to post
about the article you mentioned from http://www.cbs.co.kr/Nocut/Show.asp?IDX=1134673,
i found another similar article posted by kdramafanusa in Jumong's thread, in english
so both SIG and HHJ will have fans from Iran too. i'm soo happy, glad, jubilant .. that Jumong is well loved everywhere its shown.
here is a wacky stuff from dcinside. BSGS meets Jumong
haha I love that picture!!
Those pics of HHJ is so pretty! She's so pretty, my gosh. But I wonder, how come she's never in a photo op with her fiance? As far as I remember it, he's in the entertainment industry as well, in some singing group. Why hasn't she been seen with him? Always walking by herself to those celeb events..
Omo her sister is going out with Kim Kang woo??!?! WOOOAHH!! I love his acting brilliance in Story of a Man. Honestly, KKW & HHJ would be a pretty good match hehehehe
It's hard to choose which couple paring was the best... While I fell in love with KJH in Be Strong, Ymm SIG is yummy in Jumong. I can't pick one >_< But I think KJH & HHJ had a more sexual chemistry Ahh thinking about the show makes me wanna watch it all over again. Can't wait for Summer break!!!~!~!

Seeing Siggy drenched in sweat does some very weird things to me, omg x_x bad thoughts!! lool
enahh that was so sweet of you to make a birthday gift like that, it was definitely well thought out ^__^ even though I don't frequent SIG's thread that much (still trying to actually watch KOTW, yea it's crazy how far behind I am in Sig-dom world) selva definitely deserved such a gift oh and HAPPY belated b-day!! what's your zodiac sign? I'm thinking Taurus, but may be wrong..
Source: MBC 2009.04.30 14:23:27MBC 「Ju-mong」 follows in the footsteps of 「Jewel in the Palace」 in Iran
60% ratings, the best record out of the recently aired Korean dramas.
Right now in Iran, following in the footsteps of 「Jewel in the Palace」 the Korean historical period piece 「Ju-mong」 is immensely popular.
「Ju-mong」 has been airing with the title "Prince of Legend" on channel 3 of IRIB (Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting) in the prime slot of 8:30 PM every Tuesday. With 60% ratings, it records the highest ratings out of all the recently aired Korean dramas. Though it isn't as high as the ratings for 「Jewel in the Palace」 (which aired in 2006 and 2007 and hit a record 90% in ratings), but it is clear that it is breathing life into the Hallyu Wave.
On April 28 (Tues), a documentary team from IRIB visited Korea in order to interview Lee Ju-hwan, the producer/director of 「Ju-mong」. Led by Iraj Milani, a well-known documentary director, the interviews were conducted pleasantly.
When asked if the drama was planned with the entire world as its audience, Lee replied, "During pre-production, we made a lot of effort to make sure that 'Ju-mong' was written and shot in a way that made it easy to understand for viewers of all ages. I think this effort made it possible for the drama to become easily understandable to viewers of other nations as well."
The documentary team was unable to hide their shock upon hearing that during filming over 100 staff members would travel back and forth from the Seoul Studio and the Na-ju set and how the pre-production stage lasted over two years.
The documentary team was especially interested in the real personality of the leading man, Song Il-guk, who took on the titular role of Ju-mong, and how Song rose in popularity after the drama aired. They also expressed curiosity regarding the ages of the different actors and their marital status.
The director of photography B orna Firouzi asked where he could buy the sword that made an appearance in the drama. He promised to buy one as a souvenir for his nine-year-old son if and when he visited Korea.
Though 「Ju-mong」 wasn't initially a drama with Hallyu stars, it is the first historical period piece since 「Jewel in the Palace」 to reached ratings of higher than 50%, and it is gaining much attention outside of Korea. 「Ju-mong」 is doing its part in helping to spread the Hallyu Wave across the world.
Jumong, besides Jewel in the Palace, remains one of my favorite k-dramas ever. Just amazing how everything was shot, I'm soo happy that it's reaching out to places such as Iran. It just demonstrates how great the drama was. Gosh, giving me flashbacks of last summer, where I did nothing but marathon Jumong & EOTS
-
Hey~~! I can't believe I haven't finished watching this show, but it was so hectic last year with being in first year college. Luckily, school ends in about a week and I've got the whole summer to watch this excellent show! SIG is such a great actor, there's only a few that can be leveled at his par.... I need to finish buying Jumong, I still have just the first two sets x_x
btw Selvaspeedy, I know a place where you can download this entire show in dvd format, though you'll probably need to set aside 50GB just to d/l the show lol. pm me if you're interested

^^ I have some songs that are hard to find
Mr. V - Jus Dance (Sole Channel Mix)
Cujo - Superstars of Rock - Apollo (Adam Goldstone edit)
Back 2 Earth - Motor Launch for Hire
A3 - Woke Up This Morning (Chosen One mix)
Manabu Iwamura - Smartest World <-- HARD time finding this one.... not sure I have the full version either
Pink Martini - No Hay Problema
Annie - Heartbeat
Doctor Rockit - Cafe de Flore (Charles Webster mix)
Gonzales (ft. Feist) - Shameless Eyes
Cesaria Evora - Carnaval de Sao Vicente (Jazzy Carnaval mix)
But I can't find the following songs:
Andre Popp - Musique Mecanique
Renata Scotto - “E strano… Ah, fors’e lui… Follie, follie… sempre libera” from La Traviata
Sous Le Ciel de Paris
Soulmate's OST takes a lot of songs from Hotel Costes, a collection of lounge/house/paris music from this DJ Stéphane Pompougnac..... I really love this OST too, it's been over 2 weeks since I finished Soulmate and I'm still repeating the OST. I Love the Bassment Jaxx, Sia, Annie, FPM, Nouvelle Vague & Lasse Lindh because of this OST <3

WithS2 Thank you so much for subbing this show!! I'm doing a paper for my East asian class on the reason Buddhism changed from being the state religion of Goryeo to Neo-Confucianism taking over in the Yi Dynasty. I'm surprised this show covers King Kongmin & his monk, Sin Tan I think?? Korea has such a long history, it's so interesting to read and watch them re-enact this history. I'm expecting this drama to be pretty sad since it was during the end of Goryeo's rule (and I unfortunately spoiled myself while reading a Korean history book last night heh). I'd love to see a drama depicting General Yi taking over and establishing the Yi Dynasty (he was pretty ruthless at it too). And Son Chang Min's in this one too!!! I love him in Bad Wife! It'd be really weird to see him in ancient costume but I think he pulls it off pretty well based on the screencaps... I love his adorable smile <3...

Hey everyone! I pretty much periodically check this thread out.. I truly believe that HHJ is the prettiest actress in Korea hands down! I love this picture here
Is she getting married to Neul anytime soon? If so, I hope this doesn't affect her career, since it seems that getting married in Korea seems like death to your career, especially for women...
Also, is Terroir any good? I'm thinking about watching that just b/c HHJ's in it
-
Great show, though I stopped at ep. 75 b/c I was spoiled on the ending and didn't wanna watch it. It took me some days to get over Song Yeon's death Love Lee Seo-jin & his dimples! best king ever
-
Wow this show was and is still so good. I'm still replaying the songs on this show - I've been dedicating my time online on finding some songs that aren't featured on the OST album (FPM & Ryohei Yamamoto's "Why not?" <33!!) and yes, Shin Dongwook is so cute!! I'm watching Money's War b/c he's in it
-
i'm still hoping that there'd be an english-subtitled korean edition for Boys Over Flowers (like Spring Waltz, Snow Queen, etc) because i want the special features - subbed or not and even if it's in Region 3. what sucks about YA's releases is that they can't have all the special features that korean editions have because of copyright issues, etc.
Qi Luo, i used to have YA's rooftop room cat and nope, it didn't have extras. i think it had a preview of another drama.
sassy girl choonyang - http://www.k2dvd.com (i don't know if anybody in this thread have shopped from there before though)
I recommend K2DVD.com. They ship out fast but shipping is high... but it's expected since I bought from Korea. I bought Bad Wife from there, priced at $39, with shipping was $11(cheapest one avail) so I ended up spending $50. got my package within a week.
I hope Ya releases the boxset for BOE with packaging like Palace! I've only seen pictures of the set (haven't gotten to buying it yet) but the set is soo pretty
-
Aww I'm hoping he's getting better... how long was he dating that girl? Does anyone know why he broke up with her??
I'm loving LSJ in Yi San... I love it when he calls for Song Yeon... he's like, "Song-Yeeon" <33
-
same here fjkuan, I finally have this show in dvd... stopped re-watching it around eps 13... I need to finish rewatching this one though. Great show, I think this was BYJ's best shows (Winter Sonata would be 2nd place)
-
Wow Kingdom of the Wind will be on dvd? I'm gonna have to preorder that one! Man there's too many shows going on dvd... Time between dog wolf, EOE, Beethoven Virus and now Kingdom of the Wind? But how do you order from madmad.co.kr ? creidesca gave instructions on how to order from Aladdinus, but what about madmad?
-
What a great show! I just finished watching this one (watched the first 2 eps, went on hiatus and finished the rest in less than 2 days) I think the ending was great! I liked that Soo-gyeong didn't go with Dong-wook on that trip, I just thought it was too sudden and she made the right decision. And just then look at that, they were both in Japan at the end! I think they're definitely soulmates, so they're definitely gonna meet up. I'm listening to the OST right now and this is one of the first times (besides Jumong) that I love every track..I have a project now thanks to Dramabeans song list, I'll be searching for every song hehe... C'mon Through is such a solid song. I think the bench scene has become my most favorite k-drama scene ever....
-
heh I forgot to post, but when I posted my lil rant about KBS-America's slow shipping/no response, the next day the discs came in So it's all good, though I don't think I'll be buying the rest of Dal Ja's Spring/Capital Scandal there... the video quality was worst than the HD-rips! How was that even possible? I'm just gonna buy the dvd boxsets available
BTW.... YesAsia's having a sell on their K-Drama boxsets! I'm soooo mad though! I bought Hotelier a month ago at Scarecrow for $60, and now it's on sell for $39!! It makes me wanna take that set back and buy it there.
-
Nooo please no DJG Season 2... the original is great, please MBC don't mess up a classic
sorry lol I was lurking and found that comment... but I don't think any DJG 2 would be any good for the show. plus it'll star Lee Young Ae? x_X no way, it'd have to be a spinoff.. and even then I probably wouldn't like it :/
-
really?
Go to the main CONTACT page at the KBS-America website, not the one in the KBS-America E-store, since KBS-America is the one responsible for the DVDs anyways:
TEL 213-739-1111
FAX 213-739-2729
I hope everything works out for you.
thanks so much creidesca.. i'll call them tomorrow to see what's up
btw insignia, I found I'm Sorry I Love You on Seoul Selection for $59.. shipping (with EMS) it comes up to $84.. link is here

I've been lurking this thread since episode 21. I just wanted to say that it's quite clear that the writers have been going for a tragedy ending. This ice lake scene will definitely occur on the final episode. There will not be a happy ending to this story
