  1. That ending was - whew!  So sad, so tragic, yet powerful!

I had to leave it all behind for a couple weeks it hurt my heart so bad.

But then I went back and watched it all from the beginning again - fully knowing how it would end - and found it just as compelling as when I first watched it.  I found many things that I had missed that shed light on why and where and when.  It made me wonder if this story would have been better as 20 than 16 episodes.

We all know this was supposed to be 20 episodes, but then it got knocked down to 16.  There are scenes we saw in the BTS, the previews, even the ending recap scenes that were not shown.  Heejae fixing Seo Jeon's makeup for one.  I for one felt there must have been more to Whi's and Heejae's relationship,  it seemed rushed and brushed over lightly.  Also Heejae's and Seonho's relationship.  It seemed like Seonho and Heejae must have had some sort of courtship before she found out Whi was Seo Geom's son.  More time spent developing these relationships would have made them more believable, heartfelt and touching when the final tragedy struck at the end.

All in all, one of the great sageuks I have watched, right up there with Moon Embracing the Sun, Tree With Deep Roots, Six Flying Dragons.  The acting by all was from the heart, the direction supreme, the writing and script powerful, the cinematography artful and impactful, costumes and weaponry and scenery and sets all beautifully done.  Osts and film score memorable and fitting.

I am so glad I was able to watch this and share it with all of you.  it will probably be a drama I come back to watch again and again.

Whi, Heejae, Seonho, Seoyeon and Bangwon - you will be missed, your story touched my soul.

The writer of the script for My Country explains his reasons for writing the script and why it had to end the way it did.  But it is all in Korean, and uncle Google translates it mostly into garbage.

Can anyone translate it - it would really shed some light on the writer's insight into this drama!

  3. @Byof - where did you find the pictures of Seolhyun wearing the red beaded bracelet that Whi gave Heejae?  Does she wear it often?  I think this drama touched many of the actors hearts and they found it hard to leave behind once filming ended.  I know Seolhyun wrote on her instagram how she was Heejae for 9 months and now misses her.  She also showed a film clip of her crying after the last filming.  From some of the other actors comments it also sounds like filming My Country was a touching and joyful experience for them all.  Hope to see them together again in other projects!

  4. Watched 13 & 14 with English translation on Netflix - thank you so much NF for getting your act together!

Another couple of episodes with lots of intrigue and slashing and stabbing.

It was good to see Whi save Heejae.  But why do I feel their relationship is a little empty.  He is still all wrapped up with Bangwon and trying to save everybody, and she is more concerned with Ihrawu than Whi.  They are both carrying the weight of the world on their shoulders, but seem unable to share that weight with each other yet.  How I wish they were in a relationship like MoonBok and Hwahol!  They seem to have found happiness amongst all the turmoil.

So it looks like there will be another epic battle with much slashing and stabbing and flying blood splatter.  To tell you the truth, even though they are filmed well, I'm getting a little tired of all the sword play.  You know that any battle Whi or Seonho get in they will survive.  No matter how many enemies they must face, 20, 30, 40 or 50 of them - they will win, get a few more scars and still survive.

And now Seonho has stabbed Whi in that 'special spot' that heals instantly again!  Ho-hum....

I really do hope we get to see the "country of the abandoned" that Bangwon promises to Whi.  I really want to see Whi and Heejae happy together, along with Chi-do and Jungbum, MoonBok and Hwahol and also Seonho and Whi reach an impasse where they can forge their friendship again.  Is it too much to find some happiness for those people in this drama?

  5. I just realized the director for My Country also directed one of my favorite Korean dramas on JTBC called "The Package" with Jung Yong Hwa (Lead singer for FNC's band CNBlue and Seolhyun's label mate at FNC) and the adorable Lee Yeon-Hee.

This travel drama was beautifully written and lushly filmed in France, especially at Mont St. Michel.  The cinematography was beautiful, as was the story as you travel along with a group of Korean tourists on a junket to France, lead by Korean tour director Lee Yeon-Hee.  Each tourist has a back story, and the trip brings out each tourist's troubles in a caring and dramatic way.

Of course, there is a love story between Jung Yong-Hwa and Lee Yeon-Hee, but it is not a normal relationship.  With both Jung Yong Hwa's and Lee Yeon Hee's past stories conflicting their relationship.  It is a sensibly written and adult relationship, and both Jung Yong Hwa and Lee Yeon Hee's acting in it is thoughtful and intelligently done.

And as we have experienced in My Country, the artful and dramatic direction by Kim Jin-Won is evident in every scene of "the Package".  Plus, there are really good OSTs.

I recommend watching "The Package".  You'll feel you've been on a trip to France with this group of tourists, wrapped up in their stories and be caught up in the love story between Jung Yong Hwa and Lee Yeon Hee.  It's only 12 episodes, you could probably watch it while waiting for Netflix to get English subs out for episodes 13 - 16!  :D

  6. Hurrah!  Episodes 13 and 14 are showing up in US Netflix as available 11/19 and 11/20 - finally!

Maybe all our pleas and cries for help pushed Netflix to do something?

Anyway, I watched 13 & 14 in raw and have to say - in ancient Korea getting run through by a sword must have been some kind of greeting - like shaking hands!

It seems like every time Hwi and Sunho meet they are stabbing each other - in that exact same spot that each of them know they will survive from.  Kind of like, "It's been a long time - how have you been?"  "Oh me, not doing so well - STAB!"   "WHY'D YOU DO THAT, BRO!?  "Ah, don't worry, you'll be fine in a day or two, take care!"

It takes the impact away when you already know even though the guy has a sword run through him, he's shot by multiple arrows and slashed multiple times, beat up, dragged by horses - he will lay down and rest for a night, get patched up by his cutie, and then hop up and be in fighting shape in about a day.  No massive blood loss, no lingering pain or injury, no infection - just, "I'm OK, run me through again!"

Oh and this poison that is running through Hwi's body only seems to effect him at times he is relatively safe - it doesn't bother him at all when he is fighting and cutting down 20 or thirty soldiers.

90 degree bow to Jang Hyuk for his acting in this drama.  All the actors in this drama are exceptional, but he has taken on Bangwon's skin and is living in it.  If he doesn't get some kind of drama award for his acting in this drama the world just isn't fair.

And as others have said, it was good to see Whi take care of Heejae for once.  She has always been by his side, supporting him, patching him up after each of his many wounds.  It was good to see him tenderly reciprocate his care and feelings to her.  For two people supposedly so deeply in love, why haven't they consummated their relationship yet?  It seems they are both living under the same roof, it would be easy to make 'it' happen!  So many years they've been pining for each other - surely they've had some break in all the strife and drama to 'get together'?  Is their relationship going to be one of only caring and support?  Some passion between these 2 certainly would make their relationship more understandable and believable.

  7. Still no information from Netlfix on episodes 13 & 14.  So a lot of us are still in the dark about what happens after episode 12.

Netflix customer service is useless - they have no new information.  I've told them there is lot of interest in this drama and it doesn't look good for them to not supply any information on the status of the last 4 episodes.  Many people are angry, not just the US - but internationally from what I understand.  I read an article on Cinemaholic that stated the release dates for ep. 13 & 14 to be 11/15 & 11/16 - from Netflix's own press release.

I'll continue to wait - please continue to fill us in on what is happening - for those of you who can watch it!  It will be a spoiler for us unfortunate Netflix viewers - but at least some of the suspense will be relieved!

  8. It's 11:00 p.m., 11/16 - still no episode 13 on Netflix!  Has anybody heard anything from Netflix customer support about this?  If not, where are you all watching the next episodes?  Only raw available - or with English subs?

Maybe someone can alert Soompi and have them write a news article about this - it is ridiculous that Netflix has failed so spectacularly......

  9. Usually Netflix will show the next 2 episodes with expected air dates.  And usually the next episode showed up the next day after its air date in Korea.  I'm in the US.  Still no episode 13 or 14 available on Netflix.  I asked customer support - they had no answer.  I'll wait until tonight, but something's not right!  This would totally suck if Netflix screwed this up.  I don't want to go to some fly-by-night streaming service with its warnings of malware, etc. to watch this, but Netflix is giving me gas.  Hope they get it right!

Somebody in the Swoon Jenga Youtube posted in the comments My Country broadcast for 13 & 14 was cancelled or delayed due to baseball schedule?  Anybody hear that?

  10. Remember Whi's speech to Bangwon -

"We were the advance troop dispatched to Liaodong.

We were abandoned after being used and trampled all over.

In my eyes - you are no different.

We dirtied our hands with blood for this country,

but that blood is only used to deride us.

That is your and our situation."

    Bangwon, "So?"

    "Your highness' country.

    The country of the abandoned.

I wished to see it with you."

Bangwon, "The country of the abandoned?  You wish to see my kingdom?"

    "That is correct!"

This was before Yeon's death and Whi's path of revenge.  There is some deeper meaning for him to help Bangwon.  But it was blinded temporarily by revenge.

Bangwon's speech after cutting the bridge -

"We were all born seperately and have been living seperate lives.

We all come from different social ranks,

and all of us are here for different reasons.

    However, we were all abandoned.

Regardless of how it all began and how it will end.

    You must survive!"

They are all the "abandoned".  Whi, Seonho, Heejae, Bangwon, Chi-do, Munbok, Jeungbum, Hwawol and the other ladies of Ilhrawu.  All abandoned by their country and their rulers because of their birth, their station in life.  They are all hoping Bangwon will give them a better country - one with consideration for the common man.  Will he deliver?

  11. @writteninthestars09- it was a beautiful and dramatic scene!  Like so many in this drama, both the director and the cinematographer have an eye for the artistic and dramatic.  Each shot tells a story that the action and script cannot.  Each shot is an embellishment of the plot, adding immensely to the storytelling.

Whi and his horsemen riding in the foggy darkness along the lake in slow motion - how about THAT shot?

Why does Bangwon save Seonho, though?  When they fight outside the gate, Bangwon only uses his sword to defend himself - he does not attack Seonho.  He waits until Seonho realizes he has been beaten (Chi-Do and his Black Snake squad come through again - how cool!) and then they both lower their swords.  Bangwon could have killed him - or tried to, but no. He lets him go inside the gate.

Does he save him because he knows Seonho is Whi's best friend?  Does he see how Whi still cares for Seonho - so there must be a good man still there to save? Or does Bangwon see something deeper in Seonho.  Does he see that Seonho is also one of the "abandoned" like himself and Whi?  When Seonho says that Bangwon will abandon Whi, so why is Bangwon better than Namjeon, Bangwon says he doesn't abandon his people.  You can see in Seonho's face he is surprised by this answer.  Is Bangwon hoping he can convert Seonho to his side and lead him to the new nation of the "abandoned" he wants to create?  Seonho's father, Namjeon is dead.  Hasn't the curse of being Namjeon's son been removed from Seonho just as much as Whi's curse against Namjeon for killing Yeon?

    Only time will tell.....

  12. That was intense!  Whistling arrows and slashing swords and armed men roaming around in the night.  Namjeon, Sambong, the ministers supporting Namjeon and the crown prince all dead.

I have the feeling Whi is finding out that the revenge he so desperately sought was not as sweet as he imagined.  Besides, his feelings for his old friend, Sunho, still exist.

I like how Bangwon stepped in and finished Namjeon off himself, saving Whi from the guilt of killing his friend's father. He seems to be protecting Whi not only physically, but mentally and spiritually also.  I get the feeling that Bangwon would like to have Whi by his side while he builds "the nation of the abandoned".  Remember, that was Whi's initial statement he made to Bangwon before Yeon was killed.  Whi stated he wanted to see this new nation with Bangwon.  I think Bangwon trusts Whi and would like to see him next to him as he continues his rise to power. I think Bangwon allowed Whi his revenge against Namjeon, but now that Whi has satisfied his revenge, Bangwon hopes Whi will continue to support him.

Whi's loyal brothers-in-arms are there again right by his side, covering his back and supporting him out of love.  When Munbok got hit with the arrow, I shouted,"NO, NOT MUNBOK!"  But it turned out he had three layers of protective vest under his clothes.  Was he just seeing if he could make Jung Beom cry?  Or was he hoping Hwahol would be ready to patch him up again?

Speaking of patching up.  These dudes in this drama overcome being shot by arrows, slashed by swords, dragged and beaten and live to tell the tale.  What's up with that?!

Heejae finally shows she is a strong woman of action and determination and steps forward to deliver important messages to Whi and also devised a plan to build that burning wall to stop the king's progress.  She probably saved everyone, including Ihrwahu.

Now it seems it will be Sunho's turn for revenge against Whi and Bangwon.  Will the sorrow never end?

  13. So now we know what Whi's been up to for 6 years since he floated down that river after Yeon's ashes.  He has been attacking Namjeon by cutting down his supporters and stealing away his profits.  But he has also been recovering from the venom that was from Namjeon's dagger.  Bangwon saved him and nursed him back to health, and Heejae was there as he recovered.  But my guess is Whi, Bangwon and Heejae made plans about what to do next to take down Namjeon.

And he is now back in sync with Bangwon and Heejae.  Whi wants Namjeon to die in the most miserable way.  Bangwon will use him to take down Namjeon.  Heejae has her hands on the pulse of the royal court by having her people in the messenger and signal fire group, intercepting all royal communications.  She is their intelligence unit.  And Heejae now has the power she always wanted so that she can step in and protect Whi.  She now can take down royal ministers.

That simple scene where Heejae is bandaging up Whi and her hand touches his shoulder.  You can see all the cuts and scars on his body.  He doesn't pull away but gently puts his hand over hers.  She says,"I can neither tell you to keep going or to stop".  Then she leans forward and puts her cheek against his shoulder.  "If it is something you must do, I just hope it won't hurt you that much".  Awww!  She understands his grief, his anger and his hunger for revenge.  She understands he must do this to regain his heart and his life again.  She's not a pushy, weepy girlfriend, but someone who will support him and try to protect him if she can, even if she has to wait for him for many years.   There is no other man in her life - just Whi. She can only hope that once he gets his revenge for Yeon, he can come back and love her again.  And he realizes the path he is on is long and dangerous.  How can he love her when he only expects to die?

I don't get what Sunho is doing.  Even though he says again and again the next time he sees Whi he will kill him, instead he keeps saving him and covering for him.  He does it again.  Whi is suffering from the poison and can't even draw his sword in the bamboo grove.  Sunho could take him out right there and nobody would know. But he saves him again.   And is he Namjeon's sword now?  Which side is he on?  It seems he still wants the king to retain his power and through the king retain his own power.

I always love Whi and his 3 Musketeers, his brothers-in-arms.  They have been there for him through thick and thin.  But the best is Chi-do.  After Whi tells them that he plans to wreck Namjeon's world, Chi-do cheekily says,"And what happens after that?"  Only Chi-do can call Whi out and question the path he will take.  Chi-do continues, "Is it over when it's destroyed?  Will you die in peace because you vented your spite?  you owe someone your life, you pay back with your life.  That's what I learned from your father.  That's why I'm with you.  Just like how precious Yeon was to you, you're precious to some people. Don't forget that."  Wow.  Chi-do comes through again with thougthful wisdom.  He's talking about the three of them, and Heejae.  He's telling Whi to consider those who love him, too.  And how his death will affect them.  I hope the three of them survive until the end, I really do.

Next episode  (12) looks like its going to be a big and decisive one.   Can't wait to see what comes next!

  14. Just when everything seemed rosy and seemed to be going in the right direction..bam!  More grief and suffering.

Whi's and BangWon's elegant plot works, NamJeon is utterly humiliated and pretty much dead.  Whi and his Three Musketeers are all alive and well, Yeon's memory is restored and she is back with Whi, Whi and HeeJae are reunited and confess their love again and even toothless MunBok's relationship with HwaWol advances.  They all have a happy meal together over some seemingly bad food cooked up by HwaWol, but in this life who cares if she can't cook - life is grand!

I would have been fine if Whi and Yeon sailed down that river and found a peaceful place in Joseon to settle down, far from the power of the evil capital.  Whi then sends for HeeJae and his 3 brothers in arms and they all live happily together on a beautiful, small rural farm.  SeonHo realizes the errors of his ways by following in his evil father's footsteps and joins Whi and ends up marrying Yeon.  Munbok gets his teeth cleaned and marries HwaWol and everybody survives, has many happy babies and the sun sets on their happiness.  That would have been a fine way to end this story.  Everybody has suffered enough.

But no.  The king pardons NamJeon, who sends soldiers to kill Whi and Yeon.  Even though both SeonHo and Whi try valiantly, Yeon tragically dies at the hands of  NamJeon's soldier.  Tragedy.  Utter devastation and sadness.  Yep, I even knew it was coming - I still cried.

Everybody on the internet has been cursing poor Gyeol - why did he just stand there as Yeon gets run through with a sword?  True, any man would have rushed to save her, especially a trained swordsman.  But he is there to protect HeeJae, no one else.  With armed soldiers coming from all directions his duty is to be HeeJae's shield.  But still.

The scene where the grieving Hwi enters the river to drown himself and to join Yeon was beautiful.  The butterfly comes and Whi is convinced it is Yeon telling him to stay and live.  Very poetic and touching.

So now I'm a little confused about Hwi's motivation.  Is he on a one man revenge streak to take out NamJeon?  And he has left behind his sword and his bow with his and Yeon's name on it and HeeJae's silk headband.  He has taken up the sword that Yeon was killed with.  Does this mean he cannot let his heart's feelings for HeeJae continue until he has revenged Yeon's death?  And is he still working with BangWon?  Is he still receiving intelligence from HeeJae?

One theme that has impressed me is that Whi's father, SeoGeom, has influenced so many lives even though he is dead and gone.  Whi and Yeon, obviously.  HeeJae because he is the one who fought to save her mother and saved her life.  And now HeeJae is trying to repay SoGeom by saving his son and daughter.  Park Chi-Do served with him in the army and has taken Whi under his wing and is protecting him.  And even BangWon is protecting Whi because of the man his father was.  It shows you how a good man's life can effect the lives and decisions of the next generation.  Even more than an evil man like NamJeon who is still alive and powerful.  Will the honor and goodness of SeoGeom rise up from the grave and defeat NamJeon in life?  We can only hope to witness that event!

  15. Yes, the historical details in My Country have been skimmed over, important events have been skipped and time has been accelerated.  There's only so much time to tell the story in 16 episodes and I believe the goal in My Country is to tie the historical aspects only to our 3 main protagonists - Seo Whi, Sun Ho, Hee Jae and to some extent King Taejo and Prince Lee Bang Won.

The other events and characters like Bang Won's murder of the scholar Jeong Mong-Ju (Pouen) and the story of Sambong are glossed over.  Again, I think this is to keep the plot moving forward at a good pace and to keep the attention on the main cast and only show the events that impact them.

There are many other Korean dramas that tell the historical side much better (6 Flying Dragons, Empress Ki, etc.) so I wouldn't get to upset by the lack of historical detail and be content that we have a really good story being told from the viewpoint of SeoWhi, SunHo and HeeJae.   It seems they have trimmed down the content to only those events that effect our main characters and their relationship with each other.  Which is fine with me.

From the very beginning, before production started, before she even said one line in My Country there have been many disparaging remarks about Seolhyun and her acting skills.  There are a lot of netizens out there who hold tight to the idea that "idols can't act".  They often say they hope she improves over acting she did 4 years ago. I totally disagree where it come to Seolhyun' acting.  In not all of her films and TV dramas did she do a great job of acting, but that fault doesn't always land on her acting skills.  Production, script and direction all effect how an actor is portrayed or performs in a movie or drama.  Great Korean and American actors have been taken down by bad production, scripts or direction.  She has been nominated and won acting and popularity awards in the past for "Gangnam Blues", "Orange Marmalade" and "Memoir of a Murderer".  Most of the films or TV dramas she has been in have been successful hits.  In My Country, I think she has done really well in a super talented cast.  Especially, in her scenes with Yang SeJong and the love story of SeoWhi and HeeJae has she touched my heart with her acting!

So far, My Country has kept me interested and involved with both the characters and the story line.  The production, direction, script, cinematography, acting, costumes and scenery have all been first rate and dramatically and artfully done.

  16. This is going to be long, bear with me, I've got to get this off my chest.....and share it!

Even though there are many remarkable scenes in this drama there are 5 that stand out in my memory and make me go back and re-watch them again and again.

The first is in Ihwaru the kisaeng house when Seo Whi and Hee Jae are hiding from the capitol police lieutenant.  They are both changing into different clothes, and Seo Whi is seeing Hee Jae changing from a “young man” into a beautiful woman for the first time.  As she undresses, he sees her delicate back and shoulders through a thin, silk blouse. In filmy slow motion she puts on a dress, and his mouth opens in wonder and surprise and he drops his gaze.  Her long, luxurious hair falls down and he peeks at her again under the brim of his hat and she turns to look at him, the transformation complete – she is a beautiful young woman – and he can’t even look at her.  This scene just captivated me (along with the silky, oriental background music) and the way it was filmed was both sensuous and dangerous at the same time.  What a beautiful way to introduce Seolhyun’s/Hee Jae’s beauty at a moment of extreme tension.  Classic!   Sun Ho’s subsequent dressing down of the arrogant lieutenant was pretty awesome, also!

Second, the first kiss scene.  Who didn’t feel their heart leap?  Two young people discovering love for the first time without a clue how to handle what they feel for each other?  One tentative kiss, then a second that was soft and gentle.  Gawsh!  Seolhyun’s eyes were luminous, captivating.

Third is the big battle scene.  Most of you probably don't like war and the chaos of battle, but for me, a man, a good historical drama needs believeable battle scenes and slashing, singing swords with a proper amount of blood splatter and gore!  This battle scene does it for me.  Especially The scene that starts where Seo Whi is standing alone, in shock, in disbelief of the carnage going on around him.  He is in the pit of despair and ready to die.  Then he turns to see the lieutenant running toward him with sword drawn.  He probably thinks the lieutenant is going to kill him, but instead the lieutenant slashes an enemy with his sword, slaps Seo Whi across the face and shouts, “Snap out of it!  Take this bow. Shoot them!”  Seo Whi nods dumbly, grabs the bow and follows the lieutenant into battle.   The next sequence is probably one of the most powerful battle scenes I’ve ever watched.  My honest appreciation and awe to the director and cinematographer who shot it.  Filmed with a shaky, hand-held portable camera it places you right there with Seo Whi and the lieutenant as they fight together to survive.  Arrows fly, swords clash, men scream and die. This is a turning point where Seo Whi stops being just a poor hunter and becomes the warrior he has hidden inside and trained for all his life. He decides to fight for his life!  If you watch closely, his future 2 best buddies Jeong-beom and Moon-bok are also introduced as men fighting alongside him.  This film sequence showed the chaos, confusion, the waste, the horror and the hell of the war Seo Whi had to endure.  But it also shows his change from a poor hunter/blacksmith into the warrior he had inside him since birth.  It showed him decide to fight for his life to get back to his sister and Hee Jae.  A battle scene like this in a movie has to be choreographed like a complicated dance, with many moving parts and split-second timing.  I am impressed by the work and skill of the production company and the actors involved to pull this off.  It probably took weeks just to film a few minutes on the screen, but the impact was enormous.

Fourth – after a long time Seo Whi and Hee Jae meet again.  She sees him assassinate the general.  She realizes he has survived, but he turns her away.  This meeting was seriously emotional, especially when she says, “When I fell asleep for a moment I saw you, I stayed up all night because I missed you.  I wanted to close my eyes again so I could see you, but you  were just a dream.  This isn’t a dream, right?”

Awwww!  Then after he cruelly tells her he never thought about her, she thanks him - for staying alive!

Ugh, this girl.  She’s too perfect.

But then she is sitting next to Hwa Wol’s bed.  Hwa Wol asks  about her meeting with Seo Whi.  Hee Jae says, tears falling,”I felt as if hell was engraved all over Hwi’s body.  I felt like I could hear each of his scars screaming. It broke my heart.  His sad eyes broke my heart more – than all the cruel words he said.  They pierced my heart like sharp blades.  I have no power.  I should not have  stepped in.  I shouldn’t have let him go like that!” And then she breaks down crying with sobs of grief.  If this scene didn’t tear at your heart strings – you have no feelings!

Fifth – Hee Jae sneeks out to Seo Whi’s hideout.  After he tells her to leave and threatens to shoot her with his bow and she sees the silk ribbon attached to his bow, old, burned, worn out.  “You said you forgot it all.  You said it’s meaningless.” Then she runs to grab hold of him from behind.  Tearfully she says, “I will protect you from now on.  I’ll never lose you again."  Seo Whi says,”The world you live in, I’ll have to die to get there”.  She says, “Forget the girl who used to put up the posters.  In front of Bang Won we’re complete strangers.  And I won’t step in without your permission.  Then I’ll go to where you are.  No one will find out.”   She has a plan to save them both.  She has the power to save them both.  And she is NOT giving up on THEM!

All in all, I am caught up in this drama.  It is magnificent.  I hope this journey ends well for us all!

  17. This drama is soooo good!  It is much better than I had anticipated.   The production is opulent, the filming is extravagant and the acting is superb, especially the 2 main leads Yang se Jong and Woo Do Hwan!

And for those of you who complained about Seolhyun's acting from the moment you heard her name, before she even spoke one line in this drama, with your preconceived opinions about "idols can't act" you should be ashamed.  I feel she is doing an excellent job in this drama.  You judged her on something she did 4 years ago?  You don't think people can change or can grow?  She has shown she has grown as an actress.

I anxiously await each new episode.  I want to see how Seo Hwi survives from all the pain he has suffered in his life!

  18. Knock, knock!  Anybody home?  Nobody is updating this thread anymore?  It's a shame to come this far and let our love and support for YongSeo wither on the vine.  After - has it been - 9 years?

Here's some news.  YongHwa is now in the army.  The Special Forces - just like his character San Ma Roo in his best drama ever - The Package.   And he is doing well. He has just been promoted to Corporal.  His enlistment should be finished by late 2019.

Seohyun, in her recent fan meeting in Japan mentioned "Jung Yong Hwa oppa" - from the YongSeo International Chat:

During post-it question corner  Seohyun picked "Who was the one who taught me the guitar for the first time?"
Seohyun: WGM Jung Yonghwa oppa, afterwards I got taught by the guitar teacher and practiced a lot!"

Not Jung Yong Hwa-ssi, Jung Yong Hwa OPPA!  and....no mention of Jungmo oppa.  After 9 years she remembered that YongHwa was the first to teach her guitar.  She finally mentioned WGM & Yong Hwa in public.  This is quite the event!

  19. Whenever I feel sad and a little lonely I come to this thread and read about this couple.  I watch a few old and faded episodes and feel that excitement, happiness and warmth again.

Those were heady and exciting and awesome times, I can still remember when this thread would fly by and the Yongseo International blog site would be flying by with a couple hundred people signed on at once.  People from all over the world in one place, talking about their love for a Korean couple on a variety show called WGM.

8 years and we are still hoping for our ultimate happiness.   Truly, the power of Yongseo is legendary!

  20. I feel sorry for Yong Hwa - he can't seem to catch a break!

Again he is caught up in a scandal that is not of his making.  This 'preferential university admittance' problem was the university's and FNC's screw-up - not Yong Hwa's!   Just like the 'insider training' hubbub he is the innocent pawn in somebody else's problem.

And just as he was starting another solo project and has gotten good reviews for his acting in "the Package" and he's making good on variety shows - this happens!

Even though FNC has issued a statement, they really need to step up and defend him further instead of leaving him fall on his own sword.  He is guiltless.   I commend his attempt to further his education in music and the performing arts.

What should be done is after the investigation by the police is completed, the police should issue a statement (along with FNC) that Yong Hwa has not been charged with any crime and is innocent.  And then the university should allow him to re-apply following the correct procedure.

I also disagree that he should stop all his activities.  If he is innocent, he should be able to continue his press conferences and concerts for his solo album and continue on his variety show appearances and other activities.   Stopping all activities is an admission of guilt - I don't think FNC should force him to quit activities.

  21. I'm really quite shocked at the lack of support for Yong Hwa's drama "The Package" in this thread.  You all went bonkers over Seohyun's "Bad Thief, Good Thief" but hardly a mention  of "The Package".

I hope you all are mature and understanding enough to see Yong Hwa in a romantic comedy with another pretty and sexy lady, but sometimes I wonder if you put your personal feelings above what is good for Yong Hwa's career.

"The Package" is a really good drama.  Although it didn't do well in viewer ratings in Korea (but it was on a pay-per-view channel - JTBC - versus public TV) and it was up against good dramas on the regular networks -it is really Yong Hwa's best work in a drama so far.  I know, I've watched all of his dramas.  This one is his best.

It is well-written, directed, the supporting cast is very good, the cinematography is beautiful and Yong Hwa's character Ma Ru fits him like a tight t-shirt.  You feel like you went along on a vacation in France.  Plus there is a soundtrack made up of many OSTs from famous Korean singers.

You should watch it.  All the streaming sites, if you read the comments, have a lot of positive comments about Yong Hwa's acting improvement and also the drama in general.

And yes, his kissing scenes with Lee Yeon Hee are passionate and hot.  Trending on the internet hot.

So steel your jealous hearts and give yong Hwa his due support!

  22. There's so much about Seohyun here - you would think this is her Soompi thread.  What about Yong Wha?  I'm watching him in "The Package" and he's killin' it.  The best acting he's ever done.  And the drama itself is a little gem.  Good acting and writing and beautiful cinematography showing the prettiest scenery in France.  Lee Yeon-Hee is beautiful.  She and Yong Hwa have good chemistry and look good together in this drama.  A good mix of drama. comedy and romance.

    Luvtokki says "check it out!"
