The director kept refusing the gifts from MLSHR DC gallery, so the production company wants the fans to take them back. The K fans on DC will discuss tonight what to do with the gifts as they can't get a refund with the way they opened the packaging. They may try to sell it on the second hand market to recoup some of the cost and use it for gifts for the actors instead.

When 3 representatives of MLSHR DC visited the production company's office, even though they had made the appointment 3 weeks in advance, nobody important was there to accept them. Just some entry level employees who didn't know anything (they weren't even sure about whether the international postcards had been coming in) greeted them and took the gifts. Then a few days later, one of the visitors received a phone call that was basically saying that they can't deliver the gifts for the director and complained that their office had been getting phone calls from parents of fans or other fans who wanted to know what happened to the gift. The DC fan explained that they can't return the gifts and insisted that they be delivered to the director. I'll post updates if there is any.

Actually, it happens quite often where a Kdrama will be released on DVD in Japan but not in Korea. Part of the reason is the sheer difference in the market size. There is simply a bigger demand for media like DVDs in Japan than Korea.
LJG's Iljimae director's cut DVD was released in Japan only at the time, and only recently (after 8 years!) were the Korean fans able to get it rereleased on Blu-ray in Korea. I follow the blog of the director of that show, and at the time he was really trying hard to have it released in Korea, but for whatever reason, it didn't work out back then. In the case of MLSHR, the director is the one who doesn't want to release it, so yeah... chances are very slim.

I couldn't find any info on subtitles from the Amazon page, but usually Kdrama DVD/BDs released in Japan only have Japanese subtitles.

I'm currently traveling, so I sent my postcards before I left home.
K fans of LJG will never discuss awards in open forums because that will only invite more ridicule from antis. Also, SBS only suffered loss from MLSHR (any profit from international sales went to the production companies, not SBS), so it's understandable for them not to recognize MLSHR at the awards ceremony. I will be seriously surprised if it gets mentioned at all.

I'm not sure I understand your question, but if you're going to write in English, do what you want to do. Do you only want to address the producers (PDs)? On mine, I just wrote "To all who have worked on MLSHR (달의 연인: 보보경심 려를 만드신 분들께)."

존경하는 담당자 PD님께 addresses only one person, the PD in charge. If you want to address specifically the director and other producers, you want to use 존경하는 달의 연인 감독님 및 기타 PD님들께, but I would prefer to just address the whole production crew as in 존경하는 달의 연인 제작진 여러분께.
작품 means work, not writer. You want to say 존경하는 조윤영 작가님께 when adressing the writer.

They are still organizing a team to handle gifts (thankfully we had some volunteers), and they may accept international donations via PayPal, but we'll see. Some gift ideas included Korean beef, wine, cake, chocolate, red ginseng... it will also depend on how much money we can raise. There's already another fundraiser for a fanbook project for the main actors, director, and writer going on that has collected about $2,000 USD so far. I was at first going to donate some money there if they decided to exclude the director and writer from the intended recipients, but I guess they'll probably include them so as not to offend them... and I'll probably end up donating to both causes. Grrrh. Have to spend money to spend more money.

@ShaiKeun The team has admitted defeat and has given up. The DC fan community has not given up and are planning to bribe the director with expensive gifts now. We'll see how it goes. What could the fans have done to improve ratings in SK? Only those with the TV meter can affect the Nielsen/TNMS measures. Viewership ratings only affect SBS (who has nothing to do with extra scenes) anyway. What's important for DVD/Blu-ray release is the number of demand survey responses, which is used for estimating the sale volume of the sets once they come out. The director has done director's cut releases for his previous shows that had much less demand than MLSHR. He just doesn't want to do it.

@snarkybum When I heard from my friend that she got to borrow the scripts temporarily, I had bombarded her with questions... I can't disclose everything she told me, but there were still some gaping holes that weren't addressed at all in the scripts. Some parts where, when I was watching the episodes, I thought there was surely something more to it than just what we got to see. However, there were also extra portions of the script that were not part of the book-bound version that my friend got to see. Some scenes were written later on and added to the story (the future scene is one of those T_T).
Your questions were not included in what I asked my friend, but I don't think they would have been included anyway. I'll ask her again when she's not too busy.

The only extra thing they offered was a music video and 120-minute concentration of So-Soo moments (from already seen episodes).
K fans are mad of course. We had made a fanvideo of how much we want an uncut edition, and only YG responded with any kind of appreciation for the video. The distributor chosen by the director's company even scolded us for wasting our time making something like that.
SpoilerEdit: we had also sent them a powerpoint presentation (you can see some of the slides here - will only open in a mobile browser outside of Korea) explaining why we want all the deleted scenes with some evidence of the deleted scenes, and they still had the gall to tell us that it's not true, the actors must have been mistaken or the reporter must have misquoted them, yadda yadda.
So some are fed up and said they don't want anything from them anymore, while others are still hoping the director will change his mind, and that's why some of them will also be sending postcards as well.

@liddi It's my bad. I forgot to include the "if they do a release" part when I wrote the English version. They may still do a release regardless of what the fans request, but it has not been confirmed.
@freckledcontessa Unfortunately, we already asked for a photobook as well as other goodies to be included when we contacted them and they said no. They are not willing to spend more money on this.

The Korean fans on DC are thinking of doing this as well, soecifically targeting the ending with Wang So and Ha Jin in the present.

If I may ask, was the fan response large enough to warrant an uncut DVD/Blu-ray release (if the production company had been willing)? I'm just curious about the numbers - I apologize/understand though if this is something you can't say.
I'm not at liberty to disclose specific numbers, but this particular director has released director's cut Blu-ray/DVDs for some of his previous works at less than 1/10 of the number of responses as MLSHR. This is why I keep saying he's the evil queen Yu and MLSHR is Wang So. Other works were pleasing to him like Yo and Jung, but he ruined MLSHR and can't stand to deal with it anymore.

@Umi_ni_Sora @msgolightly9608 I guess I may not have been clear in my post. It is not certain whether or not they will release an official DVD. They were saying that they are willing to do that, but they didn't say they will do it for sure.

Unfortunately, the director and production companies have refused to release a DVD/Blu-ray set that combines the two versions and deleted scenes. They may release a DVD set with aired episodes (they didn't specify which version) with some of the deleted scenes as special features, but they claimed they didn't know how much of the deleted scenes would be available because they fear the actors won't agree to release their publicity rights for them (which is total BS, they're just not willing to admit there are deleted scenes and are even denying what the actors have said in their interviews). Thus, the Korean fan team has given up on this effort. We are trying to e-mail all the respondents of the demand survey, but didn't realize that gmail has a limit on how many people can receive the same e-mail at once. So I decided to bring the news here for now. I won't be using the list of tags again after this, so I apologize if you got included when you didn't want to be.

@tinniet Unfortunately, no. My friend got them through an undisclosed source, and they are not sharable. The writer also refused to make the scripts commercially available.

@liddi I heard (read) that Hae Soo's letter follows the letter of Ruo Xi in the C-version. I don't know if the words were taken from a particilar translation of the novel or C-drama, but the word choices aren't as atrocious as some of the original writing of the writer, although they aren't perfect. What bothered Korean fans more was that the message was not exactly consistent with what we had seen in MLSHR so far. For example, we never saw HS actually tell WS that she "loved" him, yet the letter says she still loves him. She says it began when he gave up everything he had and covered her from rain, but even two years later, she hadn't gotten over Wook. "Do you still misunderstand (are you still angry in the international version) and resent me because of love?" That was exactly what she did to him in episode 19, how dare she ask that? The Korean fans feel that the Korean version is slightly better, mainly because of the omission of "I'm getting tired of the cold shoulder from someone who is normally very loving" (I'm purposely choosing literal translation). The K fan reaction is, did the writer forget what she wrote?! I also don't understand what "waiting inside a crooked fence" has to do with anything.
This also reminds me of another instance where just one verb tense irritated K fans so much in the ep 20 preview. When Hae Soo says "Does he resent me so much?" if the verb 미운가 had only been changed with 미우신가 (showing more respect for So), it wouldn't have been as bad. After all that she did to him, how can she say that?! Also, the ending only appeased K fans because she successfully gave birth to a daughter instead of having a miscarriage. But if she did all those mean things to So in ep 19 because she knew she was pregnant and wanted to protect the baby, why did she drink wine with Baek Ah? The SBS version at least didn't show her actually drinking it, but in the international version, she even asks if one drink is enough!
At any rate. Enough ranting. My conclusion was that the writer ran out of creativity towards the end and just blindly copied and pasted elements from the C-version and filled gaps with history (the book Gwangjong reads, Baek Ah and Bok Soon, etc.). A friend of mine got a hold of all the scripts (at least the ones bound to books, not the loose sheets) and her opinion of the writer changed a little for the better after skimming through them because despite the poor word choices, the story seemed a little more complete. (For example, Soo did bring up Arabian Nights while stargazing!) It's the director who chose to cut things out without regard to the big, gaping holes they would create in the drama.

No and no. The Korean president is a puppet controlled by a quack shaman who wielded unchallenged power raking in money while displacing CEOs of some firms that tried to resist her. Apparently sports athletes (like Yuna Kim) who offended her (or her loyal subjects) also got mistreated while others would be overly celebrated even when their performance wasn't that great. So it's a joke that the director and writer of MLSHR got to work on this job thanks to her and not by their own merit. It's a joke.

@tinniet @ShaiKeun Bad translation is still bad translation. I don't think subs should be immune to criticism just because they might be volunteer work. If they are on DramaFever or OnDemandKorea, they were the work of a paid translator anyway. I used to sub on Viki, but stopped because I didn't agree with their tendency of preferring literal translation over localization. I think DramaFever subs tend to be the opposite extreme, where they lose a lot for choosing to localize everything (but then they choose to stay literal in weird places and add more confusion...).
Then again, even paid translators are maybe doing their best within the limited time and resources they're given. I did some paid work for (eventually) Netflix before, but also stopped because the pay they were offering was too little. Even though I love subbing, I didn't want to spend that much time into it for just a fraction of money I could be making if I was translating something boring (like medical reports or legal mumbo jumbo) in that same amount of time. If I had to make a decent living out of just sub translating, I guess I would just translate out of the transcripts without checking the show to see if it made sense. I guess another problem is that often speed is valued over quality.
But still, subs can still be bad and I don't want people to stop discussing what might have been a better way to express a particular line. If volunteers get offended over that, they shouldn't be subbing in my opinion. Then again it's just my personal opinion.

They bought a bottle of expensive whisky and some traditional herbal pills. They had also bought Starbucks gift cards for the employees at BaramiBunda, which were also rejected. Some DC fans volunteered to buy them at the original price / lowest available market price. They will vote on what to do with the money.
