  1. Hey, everyone! Just caught up with all the episodes and they're so so good.  One of the things I appreciate about this drama is that it knows how to make long conversations interesting, like that meeting between police and prosecutors. Not one minute of it was boring. You know, while I was reading your discussions about the case of sergeant Song I couldn't shake off the feeling that I've heard something similar IRL and I finally remembered a case that might've been sort of an inspiration for the writer. Last year that whole mess with the Burning Sun case happened and one case was brought to light that involved a "suicide" of a police officer. The case was covered in Korean news and a popular investigation program back then. So to summarize, mr. Lee was an exemplary detective who worked at the Gangnam police station and it turns out that he was secretly investigating adult businesses in the area as well as the the bribes the police (his colleagues basically) received from such establishments. Soon after detective Lee's dead body was found in a reservoir and the police ruled it as a suicide, claiming that he suffered from depression because of relationship issues, even though his autopsy found many sketchy things. For example, there was a very clear strangulation mark on his neck. His family wanted to investigate his death and at first the police told them that they would do it but then closed the case and refused to reopen it even though there were many inconsistencies and other sketchy things. There were even 2 national petitions requesting to reinvestigate his death but sadly they didn't get enough signatures. Here's a more detailed article that I managed to find - here. After reading it I just can't get rid of the feeling that sergeant Song's case in the drama might've been at least somewhat based on this true case. Makes me sad that Lee never got justice till this day. Hopefully in the drama sergeant Song receives the justice he deserves.

A question for the folks about Korean ladies fashion.  Are Korean high school ladies allowed to actually wear skirts so short to school.  I am no prude but I was actually a little shocked to see how short some of the student's skirts were and how much leg they show.  I know that as a father this would make me very uncomfortable to know my daughter dressed like that.  I also found it interesting that their was such a wide variety of different shirts, blouses, dresses, skirts, jackets, etc that one could wear and still be counted as wearing a uniform.  I thought the whole point of wearing uniforms was to make everyone the same and be less able to make class distinctions between the wealthy and poor so that everyone gets treated the same.  I am clearly missing something and it seems a lot more noticeable in this series compared to some other school series.

Well if we take the K-fashion as a whole, not just in the high-school setting, then generally they think that showing even a little bit of cleavage is considered to be very sexual and scandalous, but wearing ridiculously short skirts and shorts is the norm, it's not frowned upon and girlies all over Korea do wear them. Where is the logic in that I have no idea. Where I live wearing such short skirts/shorts would be considered a bit much. As for high-schools, the uniforms that I've seen when I was in S. Korea had skirts that were just above the knee, not this short as they show in the drama, but maybe that's how it was for middle schoolers. I've seen some high school girls that had short skirts but I've also noticed that some of them wear the skirts pretty high up the waist to deliberately shorten them :P As for the uniform customization, it's pretty extreme in the drama, I don't think it reflects the real world, but nowadays kids are allowed to use accessories, back in the day they would be in trouble for that but it seems that high schools are becoming more lenient. Still, I'd say a drama is a drama and it has sponsored clothing that gets styled a certain way to appeal not only to high schoolers but to all young ladies who are watching. I've already seen some girls on K-forums asking around where to buy all these bows and pins that the girls are using on their blouses.

  3. @celebrianna @Jillia I'm not very fond of such ending but I prefer them over sad ones. I just feel bad for the characters in the current timeline because they didn't get to be happy now as themselves. In other dramas, they usually get reborn and meet and get their happily ever after but essentially they are not the same people anymore. Their journey, memories and feelings are different. The experiences that made them who they are, that made me love them, are all gone and they feel more distant to me. I also think that for me personally  the dissatisfaction with this 'in the next life' ending hits very close to home. In the latest years I've often thought that there are some things I won't be able to do or experience in this life and at least I hope to do all of that in my next life, if I get reborn. Every time I've had such thoughts, I always felt very sad so if someone told me that 'you'll die soon but you'll be very happy in your next life', I wouldn't be happy or hopefull, insead I'd feel very sad about this current life of mine because it's honestly such a pity... I think anyone would rather be happy now than in the next life.

In the case of EY, I'd be satisfied if they get reborn in another manhwa but retain their memories from their Secret time.

  4. About JD, her grandmother and NJ...

    Spoiler

I really hope they won't kill her grandmother, because in the webtoon, as someone already stated, DH's brother (DO's doctor) will be an accomplice in the malpractice and it will force DH to commit suicide and lose his self-awareness. Even if he doesn't really die I don't want the drama to go that dark. For manhwas it's pretty common to have tragic arcs and go really dark but this drama was on the lighter side so I hope it stays like that. Seeing DH commit suicide would be so traumatic for me :grimace:

Oh really? Somewhere at the beginning of the thread someone said it's still ongoing. Thank you for correcting. :D

I was confused anyways that people were talking about how the webtoon is still ongoing but at the same time there are spoilers for an ending. :)

I guess the confusion came from the fact that the English translations are still ongoing but the Korean version is already done.

BTW, I was thinking why exactly is the manhwa titled "Secret" if it's simply a teenage love story about JD and NJ? What exactly is the secret? There's nothing secretive about the main leads.

  6. Every time I see Jinmichae on screen I want something to happen for him to finally want to change the stage. Hi's so passive about everything that's going on, if you look at it, his existence is very limited too. I really want something to shake him up a little so that he joins our gang in their fight for freedom.

BTW, found this wonderful fan vid, the song fits so well too. I miss smiling Haru.

I like Do Hwa too, he's such a cutie, Kyung and Jin would be fine too but they get on my nerves. Nam Joo is kinda meh, not my type.

Can't believe just how good EY is.  It's been quite literally years since I've been so excited and obsessed with a k-drama. BTW, you didn't have to do me like that with the gif. Have mercy on me :joy: Haru has been hypnotising me with his extraordinary beauty all 8 episodes, i can't stop looking at him

I think Rowoon's acting doesn't get enough praise, he isn't only visual, his acting has definitely improved and he uses his voice so good , I really suprised his voice's power ,I hope everybody don't talk only about his visual :tears: generally everybody talk other casting acting but not Rowoon :tears: yes I know he is guilty why he is so beautiful:lol:

It's the first time I saw him and before this drama I knew nothing about him. At first I didn't even know that he's a member of a k-pop group and just thought he's an actor. Anyway, while he has simply captivated me with his beauty, I enjoy his acting quite a lot. He has such expressive eyes and he's perfect as Haru. Can't imagine anyone else playing Haru. I think Rowoon is doing a great job with his acting, whoever casted him hit a jackpot.  Actually, the whole cast is very solid, I love them all.

  11. The cinematography is lighting is so wonderful in this drama. The team on set must be really good. I really appreciate the director who knows how to capture simple moments in such a beautiful way. The photographer are also doing a magnificent job. All the BTs pictures released are so great. These shots are so dreamy I love it. Everything about this drama is so aesthetically pleasing
