^Putting your shoes in the washing machine is a great way to destroy its quality.
Sure it'll look "clean," but the quality of the material will feel lower and weaker. Only use this technique for your beaters.
If it's your casual/occasional shoes, result to toothbrush/soap/water. For sneakers, I'd recommend Mr. Clean's scrub.
