    Episode 16 – The Finale

First I have to confess that I am a complete softie. I will even shed a tear or two for sappy commercials. I don't know if it's age or what  but I think I literally cried more than half of the episode :tears:

The three stooges ( Kim Seon Bi, Choi Seo Hee, and Ji Hyun Joong) :D

The funny comical co-workers in the series. I never thought I would get so attached to them. It was great seeing all of them getting their issues, resentments, and grudges resolved so they could peacefully leave this world and enter the after life for another chance at reincarnation. Watching them go one by one was hard though :tears: I hope that their paths cross again in the future. Maybe as family, neighbors, co-workers, or friends.

It was sad seeing Yuna being left alone but it wasn't her time and if it is in their fate again. Yuna will meet Hyun Joong again and maybe have a more favorable circumstance and outcome.

Destiny, Fate, Choices - ManChan Couple

OMG! I forgot which Soompier mentioned it but he/she was right! Past CS saved MW! I wasn't really expecting a past like that and didn't think I needed one but when that was revealed I was so happy! It just further strengths the idea that they were destined. It explains why MW subconsciously always took a liking to CS.

I think the ending is really up to how you want to see things. I am naturally more optimistic in my outlook so I choose to see the ending as the hope to the future of what the reincarnation will be like for MW and CS. That they will meet again under more favorable circumstances and are allowed to live a full loving life together.

The theme of Hotel Del Luna has always been “letting go” but I also believe another accompanying theme is choice. Life is unpredictable. We are at the whim of the Gods or circumstances beyond our control. Case in point Mi Ra and Young Soo. Who would have ever thought the princess would marry the thief she killed in her past life? Yet it happened. Perhaps we can view this as God's twisted sense of humor or maybe a chance to have two old souls resolve and sooth the pain of their past away.

The only thing we have control over is our choices and decisions we make. We can choose to see things negatively and berate our circumstances or we can choose to take control of what we can and do our best to see things to the end regardless of it being good or bad.

I felt like MW became the former after 1300 years of being imprisoned in Hotel Del Luna letting her resentment and grudge fester. When CS came he provided clarity and helped her come back to herself again. I know there was this article calling CS a weak male lead I sincerely hope that thought has changed. These last two episodes has shown if anything just how strong of a character he is. He may not be flashy like other male leads in terms of oozing coolness, smirks, or awesome fighting skills. He's the steady breeze on a warm spring afternoon, the shade on a hot summer's day, a cozy blanket on a cool autumn's night, and the roaring fire at the winter's first snow fall. He loves unconditionally. His decisions are always for the well being and benefit of his love ones. He had many chances to give into his desires and make selfish decisions to keep MW by his side ie drinking the wine offered by the 200 years ago past MW, telling MW to drink the Moon Spirit liqueur again, the special request wish from Ma Go, holding onto her while they said their goodbyes. He may have been tempted but he choose her freedom each time.

I think a lot of us have asked if CS has such good karma why is he being tortured like this? He's constantly being tested. I agree to some extent maybe his good karma allowed him to weathered the storm of bringing vengeful MW at peace. Maybe the destiny was for CS and MW to meet again back then and live a life together but because of the events in MW's life with CM and YW's promise and her going to the Moon Inn to seek penance and vengeance it altered their course of destiny. It wasn't until 1300 years later that CS had enough karma to be brought by MaGo to MW to help her pass into the after life and give them a second chance. As ever the optimist I am hopeful that the tests that MaGo put CS and MW during this lifetime will pay out again to allow them to meet each other again in better circumstances. After all their connection was not severed. Pink MaGo let it slip out by accident that she could severed it if he wanted.

And we want them to both be human and alive next time around so “lines can be crossed”  and little Man Wolies and Chan Seongs can run around and they can be one big happy family.

Also, anyone noticed these call backs?

The scarf that MW wears in the beginning. It's actually young CS's scarf. So destined these two

On the bridge with MW. The last shot of her is turning back around facing the exit with a smile. When they were in CS's bedroom after he had marked himself with her symbol and she was smiling at his cheesiness he said, “Remember me like this, as the man who makes you smile when you look at him.” I also thought the moment served as a sign of hopefulness. MW has ended this chapter but she is off onto the next adventure and there is a sense of freedom and hope for the future. It was the correct ending for her. Jang Man Wol can finally be at peace :)

    Rants, Thirsts, and Fanfics

I want to say I was satisfied with the way things ended with the romance for this series. I mean let's be real here. CS is a human and MW is a ghost ;) Episode 15 and 16 really showed MW and CS connection is beyond the physical. Their love was pure, deep, and true. I think the director and writers wanted to honor that fact.

That's probably why I felt it was so gut wrenching watching their last days/hours together and when they were saying their goodbyes. The last 30 minutes I was bawling like a baby :bawling: :bawling: :bawling: I felt their love and how they were trying hard to comfort each other in their last moments together. I believe them when they say we will met again. Just like how young MW marked CS all those years in the past. The promise they made at the tunnel it will come true again.

MW and CS will have 5 children. Why? Cause I saw 5 child actors from the wrap up party :naughty:  they can play their children if we get a Hotel Blue Moon season 2  :phew:

Also, I'm sending a punch to the promo team about the last OST single. I feel so trolled

    05BxsGw.gif

I'm going to imagine that as the background song of when MW and CS meet again as their reincarnated selves.

Perhaps some of us didn't get the exact happy ending we all wanted, perhaps some of us did, but I'm certain all of us have been left with a beautiful bittersweet scar that was Hotel Del Luna.

    Kudos all around!!!

Hats off to the cast and crew of the show! From the acting, wardrobe, set design, CGI/FX work, makeup, and cinematography...it was just perfection. This is my first Hong Sisters' drama and I am quite pleased with it. I think there were some missed opportunities here and there but over all a tight script with appropriate call backs where needed.

I knew IU as a singer and I've purchased some of songs but this was my first drama I have ever seen her act in. She was fabulous! She's definitely got a new fan now and I look forward to her future works. I'm so glad the director was so set on getting her for the drama. She was perfect for the role and I cannot see anyone else playing Jang Man Wol. That character for me is simply iconic.

I'm also impressed with Yeo Jin Goo and see why a lot of people praise his acting skills. I'm also glad the director wanted him as well. He really brought Gu Chan Seong to life. The character was a bit of a goody toe shoes but you never really got tired of him or angry thinking he was a door mat that people were taking advantage of. He was a good soul. A good human being. Looking forward to the next project Yeo Jin Goo does.

Big shout out at actress Seo Yi Sook who played all the Ma Go Sins. What a brilliant actor!

Lots of love to Shing Jung Geun (Bartender), Bae Hae Sun (Room Manager), Pyo Ji Hoon (Bellhop), Mang Mi Na (Yuna), Lee Do Hyun (CM), Lee Tae Sun (YW/YS), Jo Hyun Chul (Sanchez), Park Yoo Na (MiRa), David Lee (serial killer), and Kang Hong Seok (Grim Reaper) for their contributions to the show as well.

I really hope at the end of year drama awards Hotel Del Luna picks up nominations and wins!

  2. Thank you early streamers for the recaps. I was crying so much just reading what was happening :tears: I am going to have a box of tissues next to me when I watch it later with subs.

I will be back with my final thoughts.

I don't know how many of you will be back to check on this thread. Just wanted to say to those of you leaving now. It's been fun. Hopefully, we will meet again on another K Drama forum :D

  3. Another thought just crossed my mind.

We still haven't heard the last OST song being used.  Love Del Luna.  I am so going to punch someone if we get a sad ending and that song just suddenly starts to play in the background while a blooper bts reel is played and a message from the Hotel Del Luna filming cast and crew thanks us for watching.  That's just plain cruel! <_<  That song is literally the happiest song we have on the soundtrack other than the Red Velvet's See the Star.

My wish is in Episode 16 1. we get a cute montage of MW and CS being together, going on dates, doing cute stuff together, playing around with each other...maybe they go to the West side beaches and eat webfeet octopus with the Love Del Luna song playing the background.  2. we get our happy ending and Love Del Luna starts playing in the background.

  4. Finally saw episode 15 with subs.  The water works turned on again towards the last 15 minutes :tears: the ending this ManChan couple I just love them to bits and I cannot believe I won't be able to see them anymore after tomorrow.  I mean this entire show has been telling us from the start/showing us the meaning of "letting go".  There is a saying if you truly love someone you let them go.  And CS has shown again and again how much he loves MW.  Even though it will hurt, even if it is unfair that he will be left only with memories of their time together.  He will be her last manager.  He doesn't want to confine her unlike another who thought perhaps his act of watching over her would be some grand gesture or punishment.  It became a curse for them both that took 1300 years to finally resolve.:tears:

I did get a bit annoyed by MaGo 1 giving CS these tests over and over again.  I'm like how many times does he have to let go?  How many times does he have to show you that he can do this?

A part of me still wishes that maybe when the new Moon Spirit Tree grows the old Moon Spirit Tree would return MW's spirit to her and she is considered no longer dead.  But I also thought how unfair would that be to the other three SH, SB, and HJ.  Especially, Yuna and HJ as their story sort of mirrors MW and CS.  If MW got to stay then why couldn't HJ get to stay with Yuna?  I know that MW and CS are a different type of circumstance though.  And so the logic in me already knows the Hong Sisters probably wouldn't give us the happy ending with MW and CS living their lives out together in the present time.  How would they explain this loop hole?  Wouldn't Yuna hold a grudge against MW and CS?  No, things have to tie up nicely.  So MW is leaving :tears:

As for miss opportunities or should I say editing issues.  I noticed when HJ meets his friend in the classroom you see the modern day speaker and the projector   I was like someone missed that.  I know they were probably editing all of this at the last minute so got to give them a break.  Also, for some reason that little scene of CS telling MW to get off the suitcase I felt it didn't transition well. Maybe because I was expecting MW to be in the same outfit when they were taking pictures.  But we know MW goes through so many wardrobe changes. If we don't get any kiss scenes in episode 16 then I will be content to allow my imagination to simply believe that MW telling CS "to the bed" is something they actually did off screen before.  And not a situation where I go CS you idiot -_- how daft are you that you cannot tell your girl is telling you she wants you to literally take her "to bed".

The last scene - "I love you" confession I agree a kiss would have been nice.  I also would have loved it if after they hold hands CS went around and gave MW a back hug and gently kissed the side of her head.  CS then softly sways both of them as they soak in their last full moon night together   :tears:

    Side Note:

Anyone else got a little concern that MW just dropped the bottle cap over the side, along with the water and bottle?  I kept thinking man if that bottle or bottle cap were to hit someone that would kill them from the height it's falling.  Also, can you image someone getting rained on and they are like why does this rain smell like alcohol  who's pouring drinks from the sky?

I'll join you for that suicide mission...HAHAHA..I don't know how to swim either! :D

Ohh...so it's quite disappointing that there are no romantic kisses and all. This is why pervy Ma Go needs to show up already :kiss_closed:. Has IU ever done any steamy scenes yet? Maybe this is why we are so deprived of the scenes we want. So even kissing leading to *you know what* isn't gonna happen :joy:.

I don't think IU has ever done any steamy scenes. I joke around for that type of romance but based on the characters I am satisfied if it is implied but not explicitly shown.

I really don't think IU would ever do a super steamy scene just cause she is also an idol singer and well you know there is always an image you have to up hold. But I think from her recent track record people are seeing her and appreciating her as a multi-talented entertainer. I don't  know if her Nation's Little Sister title is still so entrenched that people wouldn't be able separately her actions as an actor.

Any IU stans here to fill us in?

  7. Thank you to the early streamers giving us recaps!!

I think they are showing CS remembering their bickering and other moments instead of the romantic ones to underline the fact just how much CS loves MW. He even finds their bickering moments precious. He loves all of her its not just the physical aspects of their relationship. This is a man who is deeply in love. He misses her voice, the way she says things, her thinking, her everything

Cannot wait to watch with subs. At this moment I am going to appreciate any moment between our ManChan couple even if it sadly doesn't involve Room 404.

Still crossing fingers MaGo lets MW complete her life as a human with CS. CS did shake hands with Luck and Prosperity MaGo and we know he has to make money cause his girl is soooo high maintenance

    Spoiler for Kdrama Black ending:

Black almost matches for worst fantasy ending: picture Man Wol in a Mrs Santa grey wig as she got to grow old - not even with a lovely second lead but someone unnamed, and has kids - but CS, who sacrificed everything time again for her, did not,  and returned to his post as a grim reaper.  He does collect her as a grim reaper at the end but only to say a final farewell.  Wtf?

That better not happen to our ManChan couple <_< CS marrying the chairman's grand daughter and later comes as a guest to the HDL to have Man Wol see him off?!  There would be so many expletives :vicx: coming from this thread and everywhere else that the Hong Sisters would have to go into hiding

Right?    I was thinking the same thing after seeing the screenshots of CS behind MW.

What if the flower that Mago planted on CS is the origin of the tree in the past? Because CS traveled back in the past, the flower in him turned into the tree, and that's why CS's father was drawn to the hotel. When CS's father left, a flower bloomed, and that marks how MW's time will start to flow again when she met CS's father?

I am just as confused as you are as to what is happening.

But if I recall the was a lone branch that had a flower on it and that was the reason CS's father reached up to grab it.  He remembered that CS told him he was fine with getting a flower for his birthday present.  CS said that to him because he didn't want his father to steal anything.  He knew his father didn't have enough money and he would do that.

That is why MW laughed at CS's father when he told her he saw a flower and she was like this tree doesn't sprout flowers.  So it could have been all a plan by Ma Go 1 from the start.  It was like it set up the circumstances in which young CS would be "bought" by MW and come work for her 20 years later.

Ma Go 1 says that the Moon Tree Spirit is the owner of the Moon Inn and the flower that is in CS's heart is "the flower that dreams of the moon"

I hope there isn't some strange time loop logic here.  Cause you know Avengers Endgame told me that even if your future self went back in time to look at something that doesn't change the past of what happened.  You are just in the future of yourself :lol::sweatingbullets:

You know what sucks, is when MW finally  returns from sanzu river, and finds CS gone ! BECAUSE HE IS IN THE PAST timezone !

And then MW will go after him in the past only to get there and find out that CS has returned to the present time... <_<

Bwahhahha !!!!.... i told the Hong Sisters to avoid that potion !! see they never listen.:grimace:

And so i have tampered with the final episode script......ending scene:

After the dizzying time travel hopping,  MW & CS are finally reunited ... they were pulled-in together by some very unusual powerful cosmic force... and they landed in a room, on top of a bed with leopard- prints bedsheet , strewn with rose petals...

    CS: "Where are we...?!"

    MW : "We're in Rm 404"

CS: "Really? how did that happen?"

MW: "Apparently, the Soompiers are more powerful than the MaGo s, and they had enough of their antics.. so here we are"

CS : "..and so here we are... but you haven't answered my question before..." he asked looking at MW longingly

    MW: "what question??"

CS: "will you be able to handle it..?"

MW : "you should ask that yourself ..your ears are all red, Hahha!"

CS: "..and you my love are blushing" he teased as he grabs her by the waist....

....wee-hee-heee what happens next is behind closed doors... :P

OMG @berny2 the imagination you have!  Love it

I think the lesson that hotel del luna had kept on pounding is the importance of moving on. Could we, as the audience, cheer for Chan Seung to do what is logical, or would we want him to get stuck in HDL just like the other ghosts? Of course, we know better (that Man Wol has turned on her way back), but Chan Seung is not aware of this (yet). How long should he wait?

I'm torn   The logical part of me totally understands the lesson being shown but the other part of me stomps like a petulant child  :tears: but MaGo 1 I don't like that ending.  I understand the lesson we should learn so as a reward I get the happy ManChan couple together in present time living out their life together, right?  Pretty Please?!

    1. I hope they keep it simple and it's just about CS going to the afterlife to hold out his hand for MW to take cause she forgot how to go back

    2. I hope it's NOT something like CS going to the past to help MW get over her grudge earlier so she can leave and reincarnate just in time to the present and meet CS

    3. I hope they do whatever it is they need to do fast in the first part of Episode 14 so we have a lot of room for romance and happy ending for the rest until Episode 15 :naughty:

#2 That would be trippy and CM has already left we don't need to re-hash that.  He's walking that bridge to a better brighter future to reincarnate and find someone else to love in better circumstances.

:D Noooo, I hope not in the past because the old MW isn't as "adventurous" as present MW. Hahaha I hope whatever it is that CS needs to do in the past, they wrap it up in like 10 , 5, or 3 minutes, so present MW can come back and have steamy (yet tasteful and in character) romance with CS. :naughty:

I agree with you there.  10 minutes and MW comes back.  But what makes you think MW is "adventurous" I think she's a bit of talk in that department.  CS is going to have to take the lead.

    Eeeeeeps! LAST LAP EVERYONE!

I'm now at the "I Fear Hong Sisters Ending." Stage. Always when they hit the last 4 eps I get more and more worried.

I try to brainwash myself and say that they know how to do it. No open endings please. Let's just settle it in 1 lifetime. No one goes looking for another in another time, land and space.

They will now do the "How should I end this? How many strings do I have to tie up now? How many stones should I leave unturned? Are we in a good mood while writing the ending? Should we bring on utter chaos?"

    I'm scared kids.

I don't know if I should laugh or cry at this.  "No one goes looking for another in another time, land, and space"

Are we going to be time traveling now?  CS goes and finds the past MW and then has to make her fall in love with him again?  Or did MW tried her best to erase all her other memories except for CS but some how some other memories got lost and though she is walking back from the bridge she's sort of stuck and CS has to go jog her memory to come back to him?

Saturday cannot come fast enough

I think MW gave Room Manager the medicine before she left and told her to give it to CS in case she doesn't return.  I think CS is remembering all flash backs of scenes we never saw of MW doing stuff (his memories of her).  I think then CS talks with MaGo 1 who has this smile like she knows all is not lost and sends him on a task to go find MW?

:phew: What do you guys think?  Any Korean Chingus out there to help translate the dialogues?

Why are there so many tests for ManChan?!  :o <_< Can't they just be happy?

I'm going to be crying buckets again in episode 15 :tears: <_<

    Side Note:

Do my eyes deceive me but there is now a old house by the MW tree?  Just what the heck is going on here?

  17. Wow, this thread sure has grown fast.  At this rate you think we can hit 200?

We've had some great discussions going on here.  I can't believe some of the Team CM vs Team CS has spilled over in real life.  Let's respect the actors' private lives and not get too hardcore with the shipping.  I prefer everyone be friends.  It seems from the behind the scenes that YJG tries his best to keep spirits up and try to be funny so it's less silent and awkward ^_^ but that last bts with him saying you're the prettiest  that made it awkward.  But I'm sure IU understands what he's trying to do.

@Ameera Ali I love your gif  "he's a bug, you're my boo, smile plz" ~ hilarious

In regards to the discussion of when MW and CS fell in love.  I've been going back re-watching the earlier episodes and from what I can see from my perspective it looks like in episode 6 is when CS probably started really having feelings for her.  When he subconsciously reached out and stopped her when she told him to send her off well like the Gods want him to and not to be lonely when she's gone.  I think by this point in time because of the dreams that he had been having he was starting to see through her facade.  And there was this inherit sadness around her.

This couple hasn't had the usual slow motion troupe frames.  The closest we get is in episode 3 and 4 when we see MW smiling by the tree and her sleeping under the tree from CS's dreams.  He's seeing her pure smiling face for the first time.  It's is a direct contrast to her current state.  And perhaps because of that he wanted to get to know more about her.  Maybe one day see that same smiling face looking at him.

If you listen clearly to their dialogues within each episode and the way they interact with each other it shows the slow progression of how their relationship went from Boss and Employee to friendlier co-workers to something much more.

I always found it interesting how all the employees warned CS that the scariest spirit of them all was MW yet CS isn't really scared of her.  He's more scare of the other ghosts then her.  He speaks directly with MW which I think she probably found refreshing and frustrating at times because she can't just throw an angry face bomb and hope he'd leave her alone like the other employees in the hotel.  Being cynical as she was in the beginning due to the fact of how many times she's caught people lying or saw people's ulterior motives seeing that CS's motives were always pure and he didn't hide anything she came to like/respect that about him.

From MW's perspective it seems she sort liked CS from the beginning.  First it was for amusement, second because she now had an eating partner to go to restaurants with, and later I think she generally liked hanging around and talking with him.  Episode 5 and 6 we saw her eyes glow green with jealousy.  Episode 8 she purposely left him so he would not get hurt by her or be in danger.  I think that's MW's turning point.

By episode 10 we had our emotionally hug confession admitting their feelings.  And it wasn't until episode 12 did we have our first slow motion frame when MW wakes up CS with the fan.  We see how CS is taken aback by MW's beauty and later when CS teases her and pulls her close we see MW acknowledge the physical attraction she now has towards CS. And of course we had our kiss   sealing their relationship despite knowing their ending may not be a happy one.  By episode 13 MW's fully acknowledging how happy CS really makes her feel and how she can't stop the flowers from blooming/falling.

Strange confession time here  I got turned off by CM in episode 7 during the scene where he catches MW sneaking around the castle.  He tells MW while placing his hand on his chest, "Since it seems you have stolen what you came to steal already. Go back now." My first thought was this guy is super smooth.  A little too smooth.  This does not bode well.  I don't trust this guy at all  I know, I know it's strange :sweatingbullets:
