@alleram95 's translation from the CLOY thread.

The part where SYJ was wiping tears from her eyes, she cried while listening intently to RJH/HB telling her that he wanted to stay to marry her and have a child who looks after her... Apparently crying is not part of the script so I guess the director called cut.

Even then she was so moved that she began to cry. Awww, Ye Jin girl. I feel ya.

    Quote

Caption: Captain Ri is currently making a promise, stamping it, making a copy and laminating it

Caption: Getting ready for the shooting (JH is holding the glass while SR is pouring it for him. While SR is pouring to her glass, JH point his finger from far away, as if he wants to hold it from far away. From what I now, it is a drinking manner in SK that you need to hold you glass when another is pouring it for you and to not let others pour drink into their own glasses)

SR: (smiles at his finger act)

JH: Does Jung Hyuk know about this (manner) too?

JH: I don’t want to go. I wish I can stay. I want to marry you and have a child who resembles you

Caption: Se Ri who is listening to Jung Hyuk’s sincere wish

    JH: She suddenly cries

SR: I too surprised (that I shed tears)

Caption: Paying attention to her emotion that made her tear up

PD: Your tears suddenly come out

Caption: It’s not only us who is sad

Caption: Two Ri Couple happiness = this year wish

reading everybody thoughts and theories...interesting...i still think SR is dad daughter and he loves her...I watched his face when he talked to his wife ...he looked so worried for SR he does not trust his wife and sons at all...if the man has a past as a spy...maybe he had a wife in NK too...SR might be that woman daughter...maybe he married in SK as part of his cover...or who knows?Maybe faked his death to live in SK ...If SR mom died he had to bring SR to his wife and into his new familly...we need to know more about SR and her familly past...

Yeah, interesting theories and very plausible ones too. Mine though is that Se Ri's father was just called in by the NIS for investigation or debriefing (Se Ri) because his daughter was "caught/rescued" by the search team after walking down the DMZ Peace Trail from Cheorwon (where RJH brought her to). By doing so it means that she had crossed the Military Demarcation Line, which prompts the NIS to determine if SK violated the Armistice Agreement signed by SK and NK, and to find out how Se Ri got in there in the first place.

However, by getting called in for investigation, Se Ri's dad would be forced to divulge his shady business transactions and affiliations in NK, which may eventually link him to NK's corrupt officials whom CCK is working for. The dad was previously imprisoned for embezzlement. These business activities might be connected to his case for which he might be at risk of going back to jail. And through this, SJ could get his revenge.

Given that there are only 4 episodes left, I honestly don't want a new story arc, a new mystery to be solved, and a new character to appear unless he/she is the the big baddie who sits on a swivel chair that spins away to reveal that he's Darth Vader.

But here's your inspiration: Se Ri in North Korea has no job but wears a Vivienne Westwood, a Miu Miu, and a Manolo Blahnik, so go for it! :D

PS: For adding this sweet tiny detail in Se Ri's house, I'm now going to forget (ala Ju Meok's recommended amnesia) whoever pasted RJH's photo taken by Se Ri in Sigriswil on the wrong music school application form (Geneva instead of Basel) for the wrong academic year (2020 intake instead of 2007/2008).

The soju scene in Seri's living room sounds and looks so real. It's setting up for something big to which none of us will be invited.

Naughty set design director even had the Shimmer Tavolini side table in Se Ri's living room, trying to copy Son Ye Jin's real house which has the bigger Shimmer Tavolini oval table. :D

An additional Fritz Hansen egg chair on the right would have already made a replica of her living room. Or they were afraid it would make SYJ suspicious? :D

I love every scene of episode 12, so full of emotions.

YSR or SYJ is getting prettier after each episode. How can someone cry hard and still look beautiful at the same time? I cried with her in the ending scene. :(

No kissing in the last two episodes are understandable but I do hope they will become more intimate in the next two episodes. It took more than 20 years for these two beautiful humans to act in the same drama, don't waste that rare opportunity, writer-nim :P

I can get behind this. There are so many clamor for a kiss, but as SR and RJH often tell each other about not making special memories as they tread carefully in their precarious relationship I understand that there's no need for a kiss. For now. But for this rationale -- 20 years until this drama, waste of rare opportunity -- I can get behind this, tongue-out emoji included.   :D

  6. Wow. Did writer Park Ji-eun just take a dig at North Korea's evil dictatorship and the atrocious abuses the people are subjected to by referencing George Orwell's Animal Farm? Is she hinting at a revolution?

    lJpBmrs.png

I really am impressed at how the writer subtly criticizes the North Korean leadership and the sad state of living of its citizens while still portraying them as humans. Too subtle in fact that some people think CLOY is glamorizing North Korea, and as I've read around here, to the point that some would prefer a happy ending in North Korea. She shows important aspects of their mundane lives sort of metaphorically. For instance, I explained in a previous post how many times the writer mentions "lying" and "lies" as acts committed by the ducklings, even by RJH. It tells of brushing off thoughts that might endanger them, of evasion from the truth as a means of survival, and simply not knowing how to distinguish the truth from the lies with all the propaganda they're fed on a constant basis.

"Meat" is also uttered repeteadly. I think we first heard it mentioned by Se Ri at RJH's house when she requested that she be fed with meat a certain number of times. Meat in a country where obtaining rice is almost a luxury! Then when Man Bok was told by CCK to buy his family some meat after he gave him pieces of information, then he went to the jangmadang to buy a kilo. Also, when the ducklings gave Se Ri a send-off party by the lake. And some other times I cannot recall right now. I think Seo Dan mentioned it with RJH.

In the book "Nothing to Envy" by Barbara Demick, there's a chapter that tells of a young orphaned boy who practically lives in the train station begging for food and stealing things he could get his hands on -- exactly like the boy in episode 3 whom Se Ri and RJH gave food to, who then rush to a makeshift shanty to give the food to his sister. There's a point in the narrative that tells about the how famine in North Korea worsened that people resorted to

cannibalism. That often times the meat sold at the jangmadang was believed to be the remains of young children who were previously seen roaming around the market and had died because of hunger.

I'll post an excerpt of that chapter as soon as I find it in the iPad. The spoiler above is not for the faint-hearted. This was the reality of North Korea when the book came out in 2009 and I don't think it has changed since then. Some even said that it has gotten worse.

    =====

Episode 11 is my second favorite episode after the third one. It is beginning to thresh out issues that I've had serious doubts about, mostly with regard to RJH's father, CCK, and NK. Will try to explain some thoughts later as I want to catch livestream posts on Instagram first. LOL

That's one obstacle to RJH and Se Ri's romance out of the way! The more barriers are cleared, the better.

I seriously did not expect that SD and SJ would get into bed sooner than SR and RJH. SR only drinks wine. Tsk tsk tsk...

I thought it was really weird that she did that but then I saw HB staring at her... Lol isn’t it funny and amazing how she knew, with certainty, that he was staring at her so she had to remind him to focus? She knows her man well :D:wub:

    --

On the other hand, the LA grocery pics still confuse me. If they didn’t want to be caught, why were they dressed up like that? Considering there are a lot of Asians in LA, heck there’s even a Koreatown. They can’t be that confident that no one’s gonna spot them. Lol. I’m thinking they probably haven’t received the offer for CLOY at that time and were just going out unworried, come what may, whether they get spotted by fans or not. All things considered and if CLOY didn’t happen, I wonder if they were gonna go public after those pics came out...

I didn't even notice that gesture until I saw the gif. LOL It's such a coupley move to nudge your significant other with your elbow so that he gets back to work bec he keeps staring at you. She probably gets it a lot from him in private that's why it seemed automatic for her to do so. LOL. Peace, people. :D

Re: LA, I wouldn't be surprised if either or both of them have properties in LA. It's not uncommon for Korean celebs to own houses in the US, particularly LA. Bec of the weather? It was winter in January, so among the decent places around the world they could conveniently hie off where it's not freezing was LA.  I guess when they're on vacation it's more convenient to stay at their own home rather than hotels for privacy reasons. Hence, the need to go grocery shopping. :D

Koreatown is just but a small neighborhood in the city of LA (which is actually more Latino than Asian). When reports came out that they're in LA, it was not specified if it meant the city of LA or the greater county of LA. Though I'm more inclined to believe that they're not in Koreatown. That would be attracting danger like moth to a flame. But yeah, I think they also underestimated their popularity in the US. Even if they had gone to the most obscure, out of the way grocery outlet, they did not think that they would be recognized. :D

Hi everyone! So I'm initially just a happy silent reader in this thread but I guess I can't help but to say my greetings and thank you all for the super fun posts! You guys are the best

First of all, around September 2019 I came across an article that said "Hyun Bin and rumored gf Son Yejin confirmed to star in a drama..." I was like, whoaaa what?! *JAWDROP* This was like my first time seeing a real couple acting in a drama. Lol. I got super intrigued and this is how I discovered CLOY and since then, I've been waiting for the show's premiere. I've been really a casual fan of HB, I knew him in My Name is Kim Samsoon but I don't really religiously follow his schedule, activities and whatnots. Same with SYJ, I saw her in A Moment to Remember and Personal Taste. I love them both. So yeah, I started looking up anything about these two and of course I stumbled upon the LA pics. The golden LA grocery pics. HAHAHAHA. I have shipped a lot of couples before and THIS is basically what I've dreamed of seeing my ships caught doing!!!  seeing fantaken pictures is like the cherry on top. Like yo, it's end game, it's the receipt, it's confirmed!!! Especially getting caught doing grocery shopping?? That's such a private and intimate thing to do with a "male friend", above all, in another country. This is totally what made me ship them for real. But this is also the first time I saw a couple directly deny a dating rumor even when there's evidence. After reading testaments from longtime HB and SYJ fans though, I've come to realize that maybe they're really serious about this. They must be thinking of marriage. Hence the denial. We all know how it is in K-ent. And I totally support them denying and taking it slow as long as the destination is marriage.

In my opinion, I really do think they're dating and keeping it low. In BTSes, they are at work and have to immerse themselves in the scene so just take it with a grain of salt and not overanalyze everything. Most of all, we are shipping two adults here. They're grown ups and definitely won't be doing something as petty as "not talk to each other because they fought hence the awkward kiss scenes" (I've been seeing this a lot and cmon guys, these two are almost 40 they know what they're doing:rolleyes::lol:). I think their interviews and the presscon gave away a lot though. I'm more about these intimate and subtle actions. Seeing BinJin in their own world always makes me feel like I'm intruding into a couple's private space.

Man, you and @BINGO_O (with her backpack reveal ) just won the internet!

That last gif is gold. So telling. What a giveaway. It's over. Turn off the TV and go home! :D

Was just thinking that even JH's clothes somewhat depict his current state. While in Switzerland, his clothes were more sweaters and casual clothing which gives off a more relaxed and leisurely look. In NK, he was mostly in uniform which always gave me the impression he was very aware of his duty to his country. And then now seeing these stills of him in SK wearing a suit... gives me the impression he is getting down to "business". :joy:

If by "business" you meant capitalist, then yes. :D I just replayed episode 10 and in the epilogue with Kim Soo Hyun, he told the F5 that they obviously had not received any help from Hanawon.

    JVBqcKy.png

Hanawon is the Settlement Support Center for North Korean Refugees in South Korea, where the defectors undertake a 12-week course to help them settle in their new country. In short, they are taught about democracy and the capitalist way of life such as opening a bank account, hailing a taxi, using new technology, and dressing up more fashionably. By their appearance alone, the F5 looking awkward and unsophisticated in the streets of Seoul might as well have a sticker on their forehead that says "North Korean bumpkin". The scene made me laugh so hard when Chi Su even dared to say, "Don't stand out!" when they were all sticking out like a sore thumb. LOL

RJH though is quite fortunate that his "Hanawon" is in Cheongdamdong run by a fashion CEO who has the Asian fashion industry in the palm of her hand. No need for a 12-week course. In a day, he'll look stylish and dashing that will give every South Korean male model and celebrity a run for their own money.

    Ps: Just kidding :P

We think alike!!!! :D Yeah, I've said that before bec they always refer to "home" in several interviews. And in another interview, the MC noted that they have the same TVN channel, and I was like, "yeah, because they have one and the same TV." :D:D

No worries. :) I've also been "edited" before. My problem actually is how to edit a previous post and insert a quoted post. If we happen to post consecutively, the mods would tell us to edit the previous post but I don't know how to add a quoted post to the post that I'm editing. I've scoured the rules thread and the Q&As and I haven't seen anything about it. So i sometimes wait a few minutes before I post and if I get lazy and the post becomes stale I won't post at all. :D

    North Korea hospital

    North Korea market

    Seri's house

Wow, they built a super nice set for Se Ri's well appointed house. So are we expecting a lot of Se Ri and Jeong Hyuk scenes inside her house? They can have the remaining episodes full of Se Ri and RJH in her house, I'm not gonna complain. :D

Have they opened up the jangmadang set to tourists now? Someone also posted photos of RJH's house and the village. If they opened up the set for tourists, does that mean we're not expecting scenes from here anymore?

Hi,  I was just re-watching this episode (at home sick and bored with CNY:sweatingbullets:), my observation is, the pin is on his Navy blue inner jacket (the one he's wearing during dinner), the jacket he wore in the elevator and bidding his dad farewell is the long Black over coat. Then when JH is drinking beer with SR, he has only his inner jacket, the pin is on his jacket again.

I also notice the Pyongyang guard has his pin in his inner jacket too, he lifted his over coat to show SJ his pin when he was asking them about it.

So i think,  the production team did pay attention to details... the pin was just under the Long over coat JH is wearing. :D

    Good observation!!! :)

@campanula Don't you just love continuity problems that plague almost all k-dramas and other dramas all over the world. Like the character is married, they'll wear wedding rings in several scenes, then nothing in other scenes, then all of sudden on the other hand. Or they start one scene is a certain outfit, and seem to magically change into a different outfit in the next scene. :tounge_xd:

Right? :D And I like that everyone, even the biggest blockbusters are guilty of continuity errors.

It's funny that in CLOY, the very scene that they were checking up people if they were wearing the portrait, RJH's was on a now-you-see-it-now-you-don't mode. :joy:

@campanulah , @whome poor oppa can’t yet to to know if he should be right handed or left handed as captain Ri  :joy: , so the missing pin should be the  last  of his problem

I noticed that on the second episode when he was cooking food for Se Ri that he used both left and right hands to do activities that required more force. He used his right hand to knead the dough, light the fire, and cut the egg strips, but he used his left hand to pull down the lever for the noodles, scoop the bean paste, and ladle hot soup from the pot.  But I was thinking that maybe Hyun Bin is ambidextrous?
