I also can't help wondering where do people go for discussions. FB group is pretty big likes 12k members.
Btw where have you watched 19-21 with subtitles? As in English subs?
Why does Scorpion King is lenient towards Qian Qiao? Does he only pities her or there are other reasons?
You can watch it on Youku site.
I personally watched raws though since I know Chinese but I did checked and confirmed that they have an international version up as well.
The only thing is because they put up hard subs the international version on Youku app doesn’t have the re-edits....

I have been more on douban and a few personal show groups because there’s not enough movements here.
But overall I think the show is very good. It’s not perfect but I was super satisfied with the ending and for the characterization.

Episode 32 is now edited. From what I can tell they lowered the volume of GJ’s horrible singing and upped the volume of ZZX emotional monologue. In addition they took out the shot where ZZX was going dragonball z style nail extraction and that ppl complained about.

@arcchidus@skibbies Thanks for the info, that's a bit grim that you can't have morally grey characters have a happy ending or at least a good ending as a guideline. Western TV series is at it's golden age for a few years now, is precisely because of a lot of interesting morally grey characters that can have all kinds of ending.
But then why does the extra ending can be aired though? Is it because it's so short that it doesn't have to be submitted to censorship to air?

Still even with all the guideline I really like how much they could get away with the BL content and and how good all the wuxia stuffs. The production team has a vision and all of them execute them well.
Even the ending fight is a callback to their fight on the lake
https://twitter.com/rosecnvs/status/1374325781543841794?s=20
When they were fighting on the mountain and saw the movement I thought it looked familiar and surprise surprise chinese weibo already caught it so quick lol.
And for the first time I don't mind the slow-mo during the fight since at least in this series there's a reason for it. Most of the slow-mo is during WKX and ZZS fight, which means they're not really fighting, they're flirting
So yeah for anyone that hate slow-mo in wuxia like me, just know there's a reason. I would say most of the fight there's not too much slow-mo and it's quite enjoyable.
For wuxia genre watcher I hope you guys can at least try to give it a watch, I think you can enjoy it, I don't really follow chinese BL and I like it, I really only start watching since they say it's wuxia.
They released it as an Easter Egg within what can be described as a music video which doesn’t need to go through stringent approval like a show.
It’s rather cleaver especially considering they are charging ppl for it, and many fans would be willing to pay 3 Yuan for that happy ending.- 1

@arcchidus Do censorship just don't like happy ending? It always have to be bloody ambiguous ending
Almost flipped the table when saw the ending of ep.36, but then saw the post credit scene, thank heavens for that, if not all the Chinese fan will probably tank the rating and kill Youku
From what I gathered, it’s either because BL is not allowed to have happy ending or because a character like WKX — a true to the bone anti hero — is not allowed to get a happy ending.
The shown runner confirmed the real ending is in the post credit special though.

Yes. If you pay extra.
Also real ending is in a separate Easter Egg for censorship passing reasons!!!!!
It’s...

Was there a 33 episode today? I'm not youku app so still waiting...How many will they upload tomorrow? All?
@arcchidus @thyzt @miaka fy Did you notice if there are changes to the editing?
Ep 31 background music for the rescue scene for changed. Imo I think it’s better because before they suddenly started having someone singing right when WKX showed up and then suddenly stopped when he finished fighting — it was ultra awkward imo and really killed the scene’s flow. Obviously some fans are still unhappy. Lol.
Anyway from what I can tell changed will be made a little at a time.

I was watching ep 32 raw. saw wen kexing falling into an abyss. Later there's a scene where it shows WKX is lying there not moving, like a corpse in a house, And the house was burned down by ZZS. so WKX reaalllllyyyyy died like that? could not be the case right? it's only at ep 32. there's 4 more episodes to go...
and, what's this talk about the chinese audience complaining? re-edit the ending?? please share
It’s not about re editing the ending but re editing ep 31 ans 32 because fans didn’t like them in general for pacing and other reasons which I have explained in an earlier post. The revised version isn’t out yet so I don’t know what will actually be added or removed in the final version.

Well at least they listen to their audience, don't know if it's a good thing or not though. I don't think it ever happens with western tv series, re-editing currently aired series, unless it's a really egregious mistake.
I think it’s a good thing. It doesn’t happen with most Chinese shows actually... so it shows how much the show makers care about its success.
Also if audience rage it’s probably for a good reason.

Do they say which part they will re-edit?
For me it's just bad CGI really, hahaha. Especially when WKX fall, I know it's suppose to be emotional or something, I just lol'ed all the way until the scene ends.
Not sure yet but I read most negative comments about the part where Wife was drinking after the fall and saying something serious but GJ’s bad singing took a lot of ppl out to the scene. The other is with the nails — it was way too dragonball z for Asian viewers.
Falling Cgi ppl can still suspend their disbelieve because of how beautiful WKX is and also I think audience is used to that sort of cgi.

The editor for lots of negative reaction for ep 31 and 32 from Chinese fans and is now re editing. Curious as to what it will be like when that’s done.

I feel like WKX is shameless enough lol, which is one of the reason I watched WoH. I was really in disbelief how blatant the flirting is for a BL adaptation. I thought it will be like the Untamed, which the romance was so low key, I can only see them as BFF So yeah I was genuinely surprised lol. If WKX is more shameless than this I think it won't pass censorship board review
The original story wouldn’t pass censorship but more importantly wouldn’t be long enough for 36 episodes.
The story line post second half is pretty different than the book at this point, both plot and to some extent the characters... though I personally don’t think it’s to the point where I can’t recognize the characters.
Did they change too much? I don’t know... but I mean even the name of the story is different so I expected changes from the beginning.
In addition, they added some great fan service in the show that’s not in the book (poison sucking scene, the hand holding scene), and some really great material on the side characters including Scorpion king which I really enjoyed!

@arcchidus You are right and completely right. People who start to watch Word of Honor and never know this ''genre'' like because the acting is chemistry. I did watch few Zhang Zhenhan and Gong Jun serie. Yes they all about romance and fantasy. It's kinda normal and people know already how that will end. BUT that really strange that I find Zhang Zhenhan x Gong Jun chemistry was another level. They did have more chemistry than the fellow actress they act. I hear both of them didn't like each other at all in the begining and also they didn't have a lot BTS. That mean....THEY ARE A REAL ACTORS AND EXTREMELY PROFESSIONAL!!! That is the best. Specially Gong Jun, I never really into his acting in the pass...Unique Lady and all other serie...UNTIL wth...his acting was perfect. I feel sadless, I feel scared from his expression, I feel his shameless extreme when he is into his role. OMG how I can't fall for him...so secret, so hurtful, so angst...I'm tearing. This characters is so marvelous!!! You got all feeling!!!
Hm, about the popularity....same like acchidus thinking, I will add too....
PLUS the serie is more popular, PLUS isn't GOOD at all. It's TRUE that is a sad thing about the popularity sigh
Gong Jin was a huge surprise. He was soooo wooden in the other series, I really didn’t expect him to be so emotional and so natural for this role!
I really haven’t gotten this into a show for a long time. It’s amazing.
I am less worried about the show’s future now because the government news paper released a positive article on the show. As you May guess whatever that news paper says goes. So for now this show is safe.

In the book, there's no childhood part. So WKX stalked ZZS just bc 1) WKX's gay, and 2) he's curious about what's under that mask and the reason ZZS hides his (what WKX believes to be) beautiful face. It makes WKX kind of a playboy and less sympathetic. Besides, WKX can not be explicitly gay in the drama, so the motivation for WKX to stalk ZZS would be very weak and unconvincing. That's why the scriptwriter added the childhood timeline so that it's more logical and sentimental for WKX to take an interest in ZZS. He followed ZZS bc he recognized the martial arts that ZZS used.
The second reason is, of course, to amp up the emotion by creating contrast between the happiness that he had and the hell that he went though, at the same time deepen the bond between those 2.
The third reason is believed to be to dodge censorship. When they are disciples under the same master, they are like brothers, so whatever intimate actions they do are more reasonable (duh!!!). With this plot armor, the production team could take things a little further than what would normally be allowed.
For someone who have read the book like me, I always see WKX and ZZS in pain whenever they appear despite what they are showing. ZZS was filled with remorse of his past, and he had 7 nails in his body torturing him each second. He knew he would die soon but he didn't care. As for WKX,
The only reason he survived and climbed to the top of that hellhole of Ghost Valley was his burning rage for revenge. He was born to a family of doctors, but he had now turned into a cruel cold-hearted murderer who disregarded human lives. Before setting off on this journey, he had decided to kill himself when things were over. Meeting ZZS was totally unplanned. He was so flirtatious towards ZZS, but he was always the one holding back and on the guard. He treasured this relationship too much and was too afraid ZZS couldn't accept who he was. In episodes 22-25, we will see him asking why fate would give him a ray of light, a place to return to, a chance for happiness with the one he loved now when he had ruined his own life and his hands were covered in blood.
It's justified to say, WKX and ZZS were each other's saving grace. Their wills to live was already very low before. Without that encounter of fate in episode 1, both of them wouldn't live for long.
I really didn’t like the book all that much. It was okay but the side characters were so poorly written and the back story of WKX in the book was only revealed through exposition.
I am so glad they made the changes for the show. The show is way way way better than the book imo!

I feel by episode 6 I was pulled in. By episode 10 I was obsessed.
24 minutes ago, kur4p1k4 said:Thanks for the info about the book. After rewatching all the episodes again their past does make the story more rounded. Probably going to read the book after the series end just to see what the scriptwriter change and add to make the world more whole, since everybody keep saying the book is really short and simple.
Many characters in the book were just plot devices. There were very few details on the side characters. They were names on the page, they did their thing, then they either die or leave. The show gave those characters flesh. The book really left me with very little feelings and honestly, if they had adopted the book straight it would have been an extremely bad show.

@miaka fy Finally catch up to the most recent episodes, ep.21, can't wait anymore lol. Youku really cruel on Youtube viewer pretty much like 10 episodes late. Even though I get it, translator need time and they give more exclusivity to the VIPs, you can watch in Youtube for free technically.
And about the original actors, just like @arcchidus I really can't imagine anybody else but Gong Jun and Zhang Zhe Han playing it now, they have such great chemistry. Maybe it's just fate, at least some good things came out because of Covid mucking up their schedule and they have to change actors.
And finally we get the story behind what happen 20 years ago and also I'm a bit ambivalent about ZZS and WKX past relationship
In the most recent episodes, it was revealed that ZZS and WKX known each other when they were a kid and as protection for WKX, Qin Huai Zhang accept him as his disciple. This make WKX and ZZS martial brother, which I don't know just does not flow that well as a plot. I know they do this to justify for future episodes, why they stay in one room, why WKX follow ZZS back to Four Season Manor, etc. They're just 'Bro' being 'Bro' . But yeah somehow I just don't really like how it got set up maybe?
Is this how it goes in the novel or did they just invent it? Can somebody who has read the book tell me, did WKX and ZZS also know each other when they were kids?
I'll see next episode how it goes, just that this plot line is weird to me.
@arcchidus Nah mate, totally get it, WKX been moping for a few episodes. I get that he's reliving some traumatic memories, but he's the most fun when he's being evil lol. I watched episode 10 again with English sub on Youtube, evil WKX just fill me with dread, he looked really crazy and unpredictable, love it
Also why is it bad to be popular in China? Don't you want your drama series to be popular? Especially with their low budget, they probably did not expect this popularity
On past relationship
SpoilerThe fact WKX was gone before he was able to learned anything from the master meant they had the same teacher in name only. They really only had a few days of hanging out before they parted. So it explains once again why WKX kept saying his life is defined by poor timing.
One fan theory is that ZZS kept bringing this up because he wanted WKX to have a home and a purpose so that even if he dies WKX won’t just find some place to hide in sadness and waste his life away.
ZZS doesn’t realize each time he brings it up it is just a knife in WKX, reminding him once more that timing in his life sucks and all good things are fleeting.
On novel plot - spoilers up to most recent episodes!!SpoilerThis novel is the shortest Priest novel and one of her earliest. As such the writing is somewhat mediocre imo.
WKX and ZZS didn’t know each other before the start of the novel. This is good in itself but it had detrimental impact to WKX’s background story.
WKX’s parents didn’t even have a name. They were just referenced as friends of the guy who started everything. We know nothing about them outside or the fact his mother had nice butterfly bones and the fact they were friends of the wife of the guy who started it all.
WKX background was completely brought out in the passing in the last couple chapter in the middle of the final battle basically between his fight with final boss. In fact a load of stuff basically just came in the final fight including the fact the ghosts were rebelling, the death of a key character, his rise to power, what really happened in the beginning that caused the ghosts to leave the valley, the past happenings and the fact BY was the martial teacher of the guy who started it all.... it was mediocre story telling at best.
On why being too popular in China is bad: there comes a point when anti fans will start popping up in social media in China whose sole purpose is to spread bad words about a series when a series gets too popular. In addition if a BL show gets too popular it’s very possible the government may take notice and suddenly clamp down on censorship — potentially even making on air shows stop airing to get edited or take aired show off the web completely. It’s not the first time things like this happened.

There's both, product replacement AND ads in the middle. Ever Night s1 had some notable product replacements that made me laugh, make up and cold meds weren't that unusual, but pizza hut was just really funny, and self heating hot pot took the cake. I think they worked it in pretty well though. Modern cdramas have them more often, but I was really surprised to see them in historical dramas before. This drama's is a little too blatant lol.
This production is so poor they needed the peanuts company. They don’t have ultra popular actors for guaranteed traffic either... Honestly I am just happy it exists.
On popularity: It’s not on Viki which really impacts the popularity here. However I saw a world wide aggregator and it’s saying this show is 18th in the world right now — the only show outside of The Untamed on the top 20 list right now.
It is the top show in China right now. I am a little worried with the popularity though. A lot more discourse on Chinese social media now that it’s popular.
On New Episodes: They are good but I just want to see our ghost king to be a bad guy more hahaha, am I bad?
@miaka fy I think one of the reasons why this show is popular is the chemistry and so I can’t imagine the show with different leads right now. I do wonder if the original actors regret not staying on the show now that it became popular... especially the guy in Killer and Healer. 18 episodes aired for that show but it’s still not popular enough to have their rating released. The other guy at least got to be part of the project so he gets some of the love and exposure.- 3

I wasn’t going to watch this initially when I saw the poster because I thought it was too obvious a low budget bait for the untamed fans also none of the reviewers seemed to have good feelings about this one. But then the other day I went to douban and saw the rating and I was like:????
I thought I should check it out, without bothering to read anything about it just to see an episode and see what the fuss is about and......
OMG. This is a stupidly fun show.
I expected the leads to be untamed lite but they definitely weren’t that similar to those characters outside of looks!! All the stuff the ex-assassin did!!! Then all the things the ghost king is still doing!!
I binged every episode out so far. Sooooo good.
17 hours ago, impoppies said:Revisiting the earlier episodes and it seems the scenes I most enjoy are of Wen Kexing and his cruel streak.
Smiling genially this instant, breaking necks the next.
Meetings with him are to die for. With a noose all ready for impromptu events. And then it's back to the regular agenda even though there’s now a corpse strung up in the middle of the room. That entire scene was good.
And then just one episode later, another treat. “你是自己说,还是让我把答案...榨出来?” Asked ever so gently, so amiably. And then apparently he did indeed squeeze the answer out of the guy. Bone by bone, inch by inch.
Yesssss his moral ambiguity is very good. Like for so long we were guessing if he was actually just faking things and then we find out: Nope. There’re reasons why he is the ghost king and why all of those monsters are scared of him.
Still can’t get over what a bad boy he is.

Perhaps someone can tell me:
I am curious to know from those who have read the novel (or understand the raw Chinese episodes), approximately how long has Zhou Fei been away from her home, traveling with Xie Yun til episode 38? It’s hard to tell if it’s been 1-2 years or just months, unless it was stated and I missed. From the novel, I thought, she was 13-16 years old when she left originally, but as the remainder of the novel isn’t fully translated into English, I do not know the length of her worldly travels with him. Anyone know??
More episode 39 spoils. The timing in the novel vs the show is quite different. For example she took 3 years to find the medicine in the books but just 3 months in the show. On top of that they made ZF older (18-19? It’s not fully clear) in the show since the actress can’t play a convincing 13 year old (the age of ZF at the beginning of the books).
My impression is that two or three years have past since the show began, but I don’t think it’s been explicitly stated.

Did they stop and chit chat when they were running in the novel?
I mean many of those romantic lines are from the book... and they did happen around in the general time frame but you can banter when you are on the run convincingly... it’s just they made them stop to have those romantic scenes.
I am just glad the rest of last week’s episode pacing was better.
