  1. I was reluctant about watching the last 2 episodes with subs. I've been pushing myself away knowing the pain that awaits me and in the same time, I didn't want to say my final goodbye.

"You'll always be my dream until my last breath"

I kept saying, what if, what if, and many what ifs. Would it do any harm if everyone had a happy ending? No, writer-nim.

Anyhow, that ending scene, though so sad, depressing, aching, it will be the most remembered ending scene of any other drama I've ever watched. It left a deep impression on me and it was simply: EPIC!!!

One of the things that console me when watching My Country is despite the sadness, I get to enjoy the acting that I could watch a sad scene again and again just to impress myself more!

I won't stop if I start talking about this drama, so I'll stop here.

Thank you all for being part of this journey. I enjoyed it despite the ache and tension, I enjoyed our discussion the most. Let's hope our joy continues when our cast are awarded with lots of prizes!

Now I need to go watch some cheerful drama to change the mood lol.

  2. Watching this BTS, seeing how actors are really immersed in their roles, crying for real, gives me goosebumps. That ending scene, it's so painful yet EPIC with all what that word means, it will stay in my mind for long, the way YSJ is smiling is just.. Can't be described enough with words. Well done!! Thank you for taking us thru this journey.

I am also glad that Hwi takes notice and buys the couple bracelets. It's a very simple wish that Hee Jae didn't dream of saying out loud, yet Hwi catches that moment and does something he should have done a long time ago. Hwi's last moment thinking about Hee Jae and smiling at her before the door closes with the bracelet on his wrist is more than enough to show how much he loves her.

Exactly, the bracelet in his hand, his friend dying in his hands, and Heejae being the last person he sees and smiles at, symbolizes the priorities of Hwi in his life, protecting his friend and his only love, until the last breath.

  4. Yeah, the scene with the rain, the ost lyrics, the memories she's left with, all were hints.

Same here, that last scene of Hwi, smiling at Heejae, and her tears broke my heart, her acting was touching in this scene. I prevented myself from crying and trying not to, I want to remember the joy of the journey only.

"There was always you in my dreams. Even in times that felt like nightmare, because you were there, there are good dreams. Thanks to you, I could be able to hold you. Now my dream is you until the last moment"

Hee Jae has been waiting for over 12 years to hear that....

And yet..... Hwi, what's the use in telling her you will not leave her side?

Damn I am crying.  Even though I always knew deep down in my heart that Hee Jae is the true survival among the three.

This time, I will not blame Hwi that he makes an empty promise. Because it is true that he thinks about Hee Jae until his last moment while holding a fallen Seon Ho, wearing the couple bracket which he gave half of the pair to her. He is very sincere in his feelings towards Hee Jae, I can feel that very strongly from episode 14 onwards. In the end, Hwi has lived his life trying to protect everyone he cares about and experiences both true love and true bromance.

I don't remember the last time I cried because of a drama. Probably last year?

Human nature is strange. There are things we know we shouldn't do and yet we still do it. I knew deep down in my heart that there would be a heartbreaking ending but still continued watching with the hope that things would turn out differently. That false hope has kept me going for 2 months.

All left are tears and an empty feeling of having nothing to fill the void. And yet, I am also thankful for the amazing journey because the ending was sad but always hinted from the start.

I had my hopes high until the very beginning of this episode. Once it started, hints were here and there, Hwi and Heejae's scenes made me 100% sure of where it was heading to, and it would have felt irrational to kill one of them, it made perfect sense that both were heading to the same fate, together.

it's still at ep 12 Netflix Canada, hope the issue will be resolved soon!

someone tell me why everyone is obsessed with Jang Hyuk (those netizen comments) :joy: I haven't watched any of his dramas yet...

I've been following those comments closely after each episode, it's true that much of the appraisal goes to Jang Hyuk but all other actors received a huge share as well. I think it depends on the preference of the one who chooses those comments out of the rest :sweatingbullets:

Yes, Hwi was all out for revenge too. But he didn't lost his soul for that. The look in Hwi's eyes when seeing his wounded friend, dead bodies everywhere and the King mourning the dead Crown Prince..he will not continue a life like that. He is a warm and kindhearted man, not a killer by choice. I am glad that Hwi understands he still has a life after revenge. Yeon is gone but he still has Hee Jae - she is now his only family left - and his brothers. These 4 people help him in his revenge quest and don't hold him back; instead they do whatever they can to keep him alive because he is precious to them. His world was broken but it he can go on even if it's just for their sake.

I think the battle scene yesterday showed us the true Hwi we've seen in the first episodes. YSJ did a great job with his eye acting and delivered the emotions beautifully, he conveyed to us the true self of Hwi with the look on his eyes, one who does not belong to those battle fields, who's not meant to kill.

We were all excited for Hwi's revenge and his character transformation, but the moment he was about to kill Namjeon, the pain he felt for Sunho, the fear in his eyes, as if the new Hwi did not exist at all. Bangwon words for him, as if he reminded him of who he truly was. Some view his character as weak, as he could not kill Namjeon, but I think that's who he truly is.

Four more episodes left. Just when Hwi thinks he can spend the rest of his time with people who love him after Nam Jeon's death, tragedy strikes again....

Exactly :) Can't they chill please. The guy's life has been a hell. Today's episode gave me hope, the way he was holding her hand, his promise again, he still sees her as part of his life, I felt happy for a moment, but then the preview, ughh.

Now apart from the immortal Sunho and the deep stab he got. This episode was awesome. I don't mind Namjeon dying by the sword of Bangwon, and I was expecting a twist in that, I liked what Bangwon said to Hwi the most.

Can't believe that 4 episodes are left only, so hooked on this drama I'm not ready to say goodbye :(

I dont think he will die in ep 12 either. Actually with their current hairstyles under the hair-tie thingee, I think none of the actors need to grow out their hair at all, since we cannot see their hair anyway. The only person who need real long hair is Jang Hyuk. Anyone noticed Bang-won is the only person in the palace who does not wear a hat?

YSJ has the longest hair of all. I think he's the only one who's filming with his own hair, maybe with few extensions.

  10. I had a feeling, from the beginning, that Hwi is the one who'll die in the end, or both of them, though everyone else thought Sunho will die. Though, I was and still rooting for a happy ending (which seems impossible). After yesterday's episode, things are heading towards death of Hwi, in short time, and clues are all over the place. Will there be a twist? Obviously the writer is good at this. Will they let each of the 3 young main leads witness finally the country he was longing for? That would be meaningful. I wish to see the legacy of Seogum live on for ages, as his words and influence are still alive, there has to be physical existence as well to complete that.

  11. @mademoisellesia As you said Hwi can't get related to anyone because he knows their lives will be at threat, otherwise it will be selfish of him, and very inconsistent with the character.

I was surprised by the preview, Sunho being killed by Hwi? I don't think so, as always, things turn out to be different when the full episode is aired. And not to forget, characters are immortal in this drama lol. Four episodes are left and Sunho is not there? Hmm.. I doubt it. I saw recent photos of him where he cut his hair, is it because he's done filming early? Tonight will bring us the answer.

  12. This episode was depressing for me :(

First thing I wanted to say, what venom stays for many years?!!!! Does it mean he'll die from it in the end? Writer-nim what a poor way to die after all he went through. Hwi: that's the only reason I'm living for. I will die the day your father dies. I'm sensing a tragic end here :tears:

Ok, finally Hwi has changed to what we were waiting for those whole 10 episodes! Hwi's looking for something beyond killing Namjeon only, he wants to kill him in the most painful way.

When Namjeon was telling Hwi that someone else will rest in peace, I thought he definitely means Huijae! And with Hwi's thoughts directed towards revenge and dying after that, Huijae is definitely not on his plans, though he still loves her, and will, forever.

Sunho is always there for Hwi, maybe he changed, but not in terms of caring for him. His heart is definitely aching for Hwi. I liked the line, "What's so grand about this friendship anyway". So deep.

Now regarding what happened during those 6 years, I was quite sure there is something strange going on and that will be revealed in this episode: yaaay they're all teaming with Bangwon. And the 4 musketeers are together.

I'll leave this episode behind coz we're back to the very first scene and episode 12 is going to be PHENOMENAL, DEFINITELY!

  13. Yeah agree with you all regarding Hwi's looks and I mentioned that before. Compared to WDH's built, WDH has got more muscles on him, I think it's intentional.

I like the shaggy mane lol, and I loved how they transformed him, from the period before the war when they got advantage of his babyface, to the shabby hair look (which I like), to my favorite look with the long hair and the rain/thunder background, he looks so good and it really matches the transformation in his character.

Now the bamboo scene was shot so beautifully, but the drawback was his face, it looks too cute to serve for revenge lol. They could've at least worked on his makeup to give him a sharp look like what they've managed to do so far, but is it intentional showing him with his chubby face? Maybe.
