If this drama was a Bollywood production/Indian TV soap , I could safely tell you right now, that burdened with guilt and obligation, Ae Shin will marry HS or at the very least, firmly decide to marry HS to honor the final wishes of her dead Grampa. Not that well versed with kdrama tropes, but seeing that tradition/obligations/family are a big thing in kdramas, a similar scenario can occur here too. Or maybe the mourning period further delays the marriage.
I dont want a scenario in which a grandfather forces a granddaughter to this marriage. He chose HS for a reason, but he does not know all the facts. After the tragic death of sons, you can see that he focuses his care and love for AS (orphan, she also has a suspicious origin - mother). He is a strict man but he allows her a lot of things.
When she is stubborn and does not want to let go, he gives her the freedom to choose (gunnery - protection). I hope that he will eventually allow EC and AS relationship or will find a some solution in this period.
Of course, he must get to know him and find out what he did for his granddaughter and country.
He is thinking about the boy whom he met many years ago. It seems to me that he saw him many times (when he looked at the sky) and only this one time he came out of hiding because he was so interested in this slave boy (this is my personal feeling, such a thing is possible
). He wonders what EC is doing now.

@mistymorning I registered here because site seemed to me professional and focused on providing valuable information. Discussions are also interesting. Not to mention that I learned a few valuable things from few people.
I try to avoid quarrels and conduct a conversation in such a way that it aims at transferring knowledge and exchanging information.
Of course, some of the posts are speculation due to the fact that we try to predict events - this is a form of fun. As I said before, I try to be objective. I often write: this is my opinion or my thoughts. Everyone has the right to their own opinion and does not have to agree with me.
Koreans or Asians have an advantage because they know customs and I can make a mistake or have a Western point of view and I dont understand certain things. One time better and the other worse despite my efforts.

@mistymorning I realize that HS fell in love with AS. If he had not waited so many years, they would have been married. The customs were on his side.
However, I dont feel chemistry between them. They differ in character and approach to life. Eugene fell from heaven like a blessing.
She suffered so much, and probably more will await her so I would like the fate to smile on her and eventually she was with the man she loves.@rubie I try to be objective. Most of the main characters are gray. They have advantages and disadvantages

I still dont like behavior HS. I would not like to marry a guy like that. He want run away not resolve problem and using AS. I would do anything to resist this marriage. I would rather to live in the forest like an AS master?
Until recently, he was against marriage (he knows that she loves another man) and now he changes his mind.
I hope this is a temporary weakness and he will withdraw the offer after some time.

He said "Doryunim" (young master),the way he adressed Heesung. He adressed Eugene as "Nauri". So, it is Heesung who send marriage proposal letter.
This is not Mr Haengrang voice - he is old man and voice is different.
Now I've remembered that there was one such servant in HS's family house in episode 6 - probably HS send official marriage letter (like I said he got scared LVI and after some time give up, AS talk with him? Hina is good and nice woman) The voice is very similar.
I still think that EC will be forced by AS to send an official letter to her grandfather. She believes in him very much and no longer pays attention to his origin. She defended him against RA (potter, father friend) and now she will want him to prove that he loves her. This is my opinion

HS AS are engaged so they dont have to send letters. It does not make sense.
I once saw a photo of both kneeling on the square. It was more like a request to cancel the engagement.
I want believe EC sent an official letter to her grandfather.
Maybe HS got scared of Lee Van Ik. HS sees this as a chance to escape. I bet on a competition between HS and EC. AS will not agree so easily and she is opposing all the time.

Thoughts
2/3 story behind us.
They must lead the story forward - time ends to prolong certain threads.
Jeon Seung-jae will run away because they let him. EC planned it to lead to confrontation. AS will find out who betrayed and how her father looks (photo).
Potter and member of RA dont know about their relationship. I'm sure they ask who she trusts more. The leader of RA and father's friend or an American (consul, captain US army) who wants to destroy RA and Joseon.
AS says simply "This is my man, his heart belongs to me."
He did a lot of things for her. This time she show her courage and help EC to solve the problem with RA. I can already see their faces when they realize that this is a sincere and real relationship between a noblewoman and a former slave. They were so wrong. A relationship that opposes archaic law and customs.
Grandfather will give her parents wedding photo. In the preview she looks at something that looks like a box and I think wedding photo is there.
It seems to me that her grandfather will see in the city EC and AS. She steal away few times from the house after strengthening the guard. He meet her at the apothecary and talk. It's time to explain things and speed up the plot.

No, they are definitely not soldiers from late Qing dynasty. They are Japanese soldiers (one is superior private and other... I dont see rank - same?

It may be 1905, but the uniforms seem quite modern. The change of Japanese uniforms lasted several years.
Maybe they wear model 1905 summer tunic - in that case they are very well equipped. I have enough of searching and thinking about it.
The series shows 30 years (events) so this is not only the time 1900-1905. There is a chance for the scene from later years.
cap is black and not grey (present) - this is difference. Some time skipped? New american uniform?

@charray @mistergenie I was thinking about this photo for a moment and it seems to me that Eugene stands or sits somewhere (military crate?). She gives the impression of looking in some direction. She was waiting for someone and want say "are you going?". Eugene could become a consul (asian american) in Japan but in what year it is possible politically? 1911-1914?
She adapted the western style and looks natural.
This is now possible they could meet up with old friends (those who survived). HS could travel to the USA but others like DM dont have such opportunities. A bitter sweet ending.It is just a theory - they can't change sad history (annexation Joseon)

Thoughts Speculation
I have better solution.
It seems to me that they will return together to the city - AS and EC. He will touch her hat (magic words can be dangerous in public place), they smile and part for a while. Grandpa see this from afar and start suspect something (their relationship). Servant will reveal the truth? Grandpa must finds out sooner or later.

So we can assume that the scene is around 1906-1911 ( we dont know if the writers will stick to this change of uniforms). She looks young and I bet she married EC (he have again some political function?) - US citizen is untouchable.

Yes. That's how the uniform looks around 1926 and later IIWW (imperial uniforms) but i dont have data when Japan changed their military uniforms.

It is very difficult to find an explanation if they show this scene in next week.
Personally, I dont like japanese uniforms (they remind me of imperial uniforms from the Second World War) and it seems to me that this scene will happen a few years later. Japanese soldiers had black uniforms during the war with Russia in 1904.

AS could go to China - chinese military uniforms were similar (but this is the time Civil War in China and after the First World War)

Japanese soldiers on the square are facing the Japanese emperor -inspection or demonstration of strength. An interesting trick on the part of writers to confuse viewers.

Trio friends (informal team fool, moron, loser xD) is very funny but also interesting thanks to dialogues and actions. You can see and feel that they are very different as characters but we like them despite their disadvantages.
Despite some reluctance (always one woman xD), they respect each other.

The political situation looks bad because there is a scene with many Japanese soldiers. Joseon look weak and powerless.
Japan send something like military expedition.
Thoughts/Speculations - we have connected scenes again in preview
It seems to me that the Japanese officers (general or colonel?) will want to take the residence of the Go family forcefully - grandfather is anti-Japanese. Japan will want to get rid of them. At the last moment, Eugene will come with a company of soldiers. He is only person who can protect Go using his strenght and connections. What can he say? "Go Aeshin is my fiancée, I live here and this is American consulate or American territory" and Aeshin confirms to save the house. I see only this solution to send back (retreat) Japanese soldiers.

Funny thoughts
Why does it seem to me that AS will shoot in the cord (billets?) at the saddle (sniper)? EC will fall from a horse and back to the city on foot. EC will think that she missed the target (him) and say she must train more (fit his character).
Potter will think she killed him but they will talk together and they will go to the leader of RA. I wonder what the conversation will be like.
He will think that Hongpa did this - cut
Penalty Aeshin for choking her in the room.
The arrow passes the river. The sniper rifle simplifies the matter even more.

Theory
Maybe this funeral is at the end of the series. A respected leader and a man dies in 1905. EC and AS come to the funeral from USA (message, travel - 7 days in this period?). Grandfather is the end of a certain era. Granddaughter is a symbol of the new generation that will survive.
