I think in the scene between Hwi and Jahyun in the beginning of ep 3, the part where Hwi was advancing on Jahyun, demanding to know why Jahyun is hiding in his room, and suddenly, Hwi crumbles from pain and stumbles. Jahyun took the chance to push him away and ran out of the room. Even though i like YSY’s acting.. i cant help feeling he kinda over-acted in that scene. Its just a minor cut on his arm.. no need to keel over in pain like he almost gona faint.. and just moments ago he was doing fine threatening Jahyun so she’ll tell the truth. Then again, i dont think its YSY’s fault. Probably the writer wrote the scene like that, which i feel dont make sense. How can a man suddenly feel pain and almost fainted from a tiny cut on the arm. Granted, if there’s alot of blood loss, maybe.. but i dont think there were much... and not from just a cut on the arm! The writer wanted to make it so Jahyun’s character can be shown to return voluntarily to assist Hwi, making it seem more ‘romantic’ i guess.. but sorry.. i was too engrossed on how it doesnt make sense..

I agree with that. And this situation could be avoided easily with better writing/directing. I don't understand why he was initially shaken. Few seconds later JH just grabs his arm exactly where the wound was and it understandebly caused pain and that's why he's cringed. If she just do it beforehand while trying to escape the whole sequence would have much more sense.

  2. Ok, I think with my last post was some misunderstanding. Maybe I'm not so good with my English, don't know.

But I'm never said that I blame only JH for breakup. On the contrary, I surely said that I understand her decision and that SH also done a lot to bring her to that. My only wish that if she plan to return in some point from the beginning and have another take with relationship - she said to SH. And not in case to prevent him from such a messy depression - she couldn't know that even capable for such extremes. From what she saw in him with his daily routines and what he said himself and how he reacted on her decision about contract termination - how could she guess? But. When I said about her thinking about SH as he was an object, I meant this: when I put my cup on the shelf I know that nothing happens with it except for cases of major catastrophes - earthquakes, fire, flood, tsunami or something like that. But when I left a living being behind - human or animal - there is numerous possibilities. Living being could became ill, could receive injuries, could moving somewhere and not return and god knows what else. I never understand this common k-drama trope when hero/heroine separates from his/her beloved one for months or years, doesn't do not only calls/messages but even some kind of check-ups and expected that after return he/she will be in the same place and in the same state of mind.

Perhaps it's some kind of naivety from JH, I don't know.

And finally what I want to said. I just hate this modern tendency to put label on someone else opinion. Especially when someone began to talk about 'sexism". I'm a woman also by the way, if someone miss it! But it doesn't matter really. Even if I was a man. Why I couldn't say that in my opinion some woman was wrong in her decision and not receive a "sexist" label after that? I found all this extremely upsetting and offensive. Sorry if my word disrupt common mood here, but I'm really hurt right now.

So... It will be my last post here. I took JH path and move on for good somewhere. Before the stars in my pocket that I gathered through this show completely disappears. :)

    Good luck and sarangaeyo! :)

  3. Some afterthoughts :)

While final episodes was really beautiful and brilliantly performed by actors (especially LMK. Just wow!) I still have some issues about JH actions.

As I fully understand that she really needed this time to sort out her thoughts and feelings I don't understand why she wasn't more open with SH about her motives. She gave some hints here and there when she talk about intermission and in her note about Mongolian rituals (well, I understand analogy there but the topic choice too gruesome! Like my love is dead already,  I just need tome to decide if its remain as it was or became bones.) But this hints are too sublime and vague. If I was in such situation I would say something like that: I find it impossible continue as it is for now. I need time to decide what I want for myself and for ourselves in the future. But after that time I definitely come back and we'll have a talk. JH choose more selfish and more safe way to deal with situation. But it was very, very risky.

I just love how writer deal with it. JH thinks about SH mmm... like about object, not a subject. She put him on the shelf like a cup and was sure that he will be there when she finally decided to return. In the same place and in the same state. Well, SH of course done a lot for such conclusion. He said himself that he will be the same. But... he's still a living being, not a cup :) And what will happens with living beings it's unpredictable. And its great that JH has to deal with reality, when she came to SH with a cake and not find him there.

Because it's dramaland she find him almost immediately. But in real world it could be not such easy task. If SH decided to break all connections and move to some another place while not saying anyone where he go (such things happens in life)... No such sweet happy ending, I suppose.

And I really, really hope that SH doesn't drink himself to such a heavy state all.. 58 days as someone's count? I prefer to think that he got more and more depressed with the time, that he at first still go to the work (22 days was not over as he said). And drank that much only on a "bad days" which was shown. Because other way... There will be obvious aftermath. I don't mention addiction problems which is common but not apply to everyone. But the health problems for sure.

But we're in dramaland here and in dramaland no such problems arise. Lucky us and lucky OTP :D

I don't know about 2 season. I love this show to the bits. I'm really sad that this wonderful ride is finished. I will surely watch it again and again in the future. But I'm afraid that 2 season if it happens will be not such a beauty.

However, if there will be such possibility I will be waiting with a great excitement of course! :)

And when she asked if she should give him a hug (just like how Sehee asked for a hug before) and then Sehee went tsundere. It's super adorable when he wanted to hug her but retreated. I think he's thinking if he hugged Jiho he would be able to control himself (which happened too, eventually XD).

I was thinking the same! :D And beating myself for my dirty mind since then

Also I couldn't help but notice. When SH finally give up restrain himself and was over JH on the bed and asking her about breakfast - she looked down and then answered after that. I wonder what she felt... hm... down there

  5. My last attempt with analysis  Until the show ended with its own explanations. Completely overturn my theories as it always do. :D

My take on JH's leaving. Not only for herself, but for SH. And not in order for him to feel the pain - it's just cruel after all. She understand that he will feel the pain ultimately. But also she could understand as well that he again will blame himself for their breakup. But this time he didn't do something wrong. It was her decision and not his fault. So he shouldn't wrap himself in guilt and prevent from any action.

SH was always super careful around JH. Always restrain himself. Calm, silent and polite. Afraid. Afraid that if he show his negative emotions he would harm her. Allows himself to show only positive emotions but even with those without any extremes - smiles but no full-hearted laughter. It's somewhat endearing from the beginning but began very difficult in the long run. And it's not the case in which SH doesn't know how to express this feelings - like with some other characters in k-dramas. He show them completely fine to others. It was said in conversation with SG - "have you ever see SH mad? scared? crying?" And in conversation with JM "I never saw him drunk" (hehe, that wish now fulfilled :D). But he was damn precautious to not show all his emotions to JH. Like she said: "He could be afraid that I'm watching over him". But it's really tiresome to live like that. Not only for JH - always trying to guess what he's thinking about something. But for SH as well - always restrain himself in her presence. When there was no need to do so. She's ready to be with him fully - with all his flaws, emotions, good or bad. Not just with heavy redacted version that he chooses to show her :)

While she breaking the contract... He feels something, of course. Pain, frustration, anger, sadness. But he didn't show this. He didn't say a word about his feelings. He only talk about how all of that is good for her. When he had all rights to talk about himself as well, especially because this was not his decision. Super careful SH... My heart is reaaaallyyy breaking for him :(

And I hope that JH writes something good in her letter.

And maybe something close to all my musing about situation :)

  6. Just one random thought :)

I read here a lot of explanations about what could be JH reasoning laying behind her decision to terminate the contract. From noble idiocy - give SH space and freedom to decide if he's want to rekindle relationship with JM, to the need of termination contract marriage in order to start something real (my favourite). Oh, and just giving up in order to protect herself (not my favourite  )

Somehow I came up to another possible explanation. I really don't think it's true, just one more angle.

What if JH protect not herself with this decision, but SH? (In her understanding). More specifically, his room 19.

Right now JH knows about JM. And she also know about what pain his past caused to SH. 12 years of loneliness and life goal - live a life in which nothing happening and then just quiet death in his house? Come on. It's really huge.

And now JM and all this pain reappears in SH's life. Reappears through her. And writing contract. And she doesn't have opportunity to give up on her writing even if she decide to make such sacrifice - SH strongly insisted that he want to keep his promise not to be an obstacle in her life.

From her point of view SH still doesn't ready to face his room 19. He doesn't tell her about encounter with JM and his past and he basically ran from the church entrance after that. And through her work he would be forced to face this room again and again. And if we add to the picture his father pressure about the child - another extremely painful topic... If she will be out of the picture there will be no forced connection with JM and no talking about kids. His room 19 protected.

So now she just gave him opportunity to decide himself, not by contract obligations, if he want to continue his relationship with her. With all complications that it brings along. And she will be waiting when his heart will be ready to come. :)

I have a question about the Ep 13 preview. I watched it on Viki and something bugged me about the last lines—I think it was Ji Ho speaking. On the subs she referred to “being each other’s Room Nineteen” and the subs explained it to be a reference to Doris Lessing’s story “To room nineteen.” Based on a summary I found in google, the story doesn’t not have a happy ending. But it is tale that casts a spotlight on marriage the pressures it puts on women and their role in the household and eventual loss of identity and purpose beyond the institution.

I don’t mean to scare anyone, I know some angst is coming... I just wonder if anyone else caught that at the end of the preview?

if the subs are indeed accurate then, wow. Looks like there are heavier themes at play in this drama, all centering on the various roles and perspectives of women and bringing awareness towards issues that impact women.

I read that story somewhere in the past. As I remember, this was a story of unfaithful husband and housewife, who quit her job in purpose to be a good mother for their children and good wife as well. And when her children all grown enough to go to school and her marriage falling in pieces and she had no job, no real friends, no life goals and no courage to start something new from a scratch... Well, that's ends really bad.

But. :) If there was a reference to a room 19 in the preview it's not a bad thing at all. In story main heroine couldn't find a real privacy in her home, a place where she was completely in peace and undisturbed. So she rent a room in the hotel and goes there frequently. So basically room 19 - it's a shelter. Just like the name of one of the songs in OST.

    "being each other's shelter" - that's the meaning :)

  8. From the breakup scene with ex, as I could understand, that all happened in one day? Subscription on the book "to my everything from your everything". supposed marriage (filled form was under the book on the table) and break up? Am I right?

And then SH said: "Let me explain... My father called me..."

What if they planned to register their wedding and SH failed to appear due his father call? Maybe his father said that his mother sick or else gravely important to prevent SH from marriage?

It's a pretty big deal for a woman if man disappear on her wedding day...

But of course it would be something else - I think I never guess right with this drama :D

  9. Wow. What an episode! Well, I'm still have some issues with Bok Nam and his attitude - for example, why he took the marriage contract and reading it, it's not the case that Jo Ho gave it to him herself! But, aside from this little annoyance, the rest was just - wow! :) And I'm not only about THE KISS   The talk between JH and SH was breathtaking as well. You could literally feel the threads of empathy and understanding that was waved between those two people. Beautifully scripted, brilliantly done.

As for ex... I really don't want from show to paint her in all black. I prefer a case with somewhat of global misunderstanding.

If we sums all bits of information till now we have such facts:

    1. Twelve years ago there was some big fight between SH and his father, which lead to SH's moving out. Probably we could rule out arranged marriage and that the cause is SH's opposing to it as we had all those talks about feelings and broken heart. So it was probably father who was against this relationship. Why? From preview it's clear that ex was same age, so the problem was no age gap cause. Different upbringing, social difference? I don't like that as a reason as well. So, if we remember SH's words to JH that his father not easy believer when someone talk about love... Probably he doesn't believe in ex sincerity.

Why? He must know her well from somewhere. From where? The father was civics teacher and principal. She was his student? And he knows something about her which seeds the doubts?

    2. SH values his home the most. Well. after Kitty. :) He tell SG - you know why my home is so important. So... Father after big quarrel kicks SH out. SH appears in WS position - no home, in better case the same rooftop apartment. But he thinks that this still enough for relationship and maybe even marriage. He has his love, after all :) But probably his ex no HR and don't agree with such condition. I still don't want her to be bad and lie for SH about her feelings. Maybe she just more realistic and doesn't see how they could discuss marriage in such circumstances. But SH take this as a proof that his father was right, and she doesn't love him - solely as a human being, without all the incoming package. Maybe there was some harsh words between them which lead to complete break up with such cruel post-it, idk :)

Sorry for such big post

  10. Hello everybody :) Silent reader mode off

I have some theories re: show development and I just dying from desire to share them with someone :)

Well, usually I'm completely wrong with my theories but nevertheless it's fun to musing around possibilities so here we go.

First of all, about supposed Se Hee marriage. I think some of you right that this was not the first painful love experience but arranged marriage from Se Hee father. Good girl from friend's family, long time Se Hee's acquaintance, they was on the good terms - so logically thinking why not? Maybe that girl also behaved like she was in love, hence dedication in the book. Se Hee more than likely was always weird one, in fact, I'm supposed that when he was younger he was weirder :) And maybe his "bride" only pretended to be in love - that's why Se Hee said "love it's something really easy to say". And I jump to another conclusion - maybe just before the wedding Se Hee overheard his bride talk with someone about her real feelings for him. Nerdy freak, it's only for my parents and because his father promised to buy a house(apartment) and something like that. And while he probably was not in love his pride was hurt and he cancelled the wedding. And that was the cause for the rift with his father. Maybe father also know that there was no love from bride's part but think it's no big deal. Maybe there was some words thrown toward Se Hee like this - you're weird one, and you supposed someone could love you, you don't love her either, so just marry her or you want to die alone in your room - if you had one, because this is my house - etc, etc :)

And my second theory. Right now writer put in our mind strong belief that it's JH completely in love while SH is not or unaware of his feelings. What if it's not the case? What if it's was SH who first admitted to himself that he feels something more to his pretty tenant? :) But he denied himself from any moves toward that direction. Just because he completely aware about desperate situation in which JH was. No home, no work, dreams shattered etc. So he also aware that she is in dependable position from him now. And made a moves right now it's somewhat unfair. Almost just like when the lady is drunk. :) And if she show some signs of affection about him - well, logically it's completely normal, his favorite Maslow pyramid :) Need of belonging and love, yes. After all, as he thinks (and everybody around him) he's a weird one and what girl would love him in normal circumstances?

And I hope that after theirs last conversation after he completely process (:D) JH words he allows himself to throw away theorizing and just follow his feelings. And began with kimchi making - to show JH that he also likes her and wants to do something for her  After all, if it's not the case, he could easily avoid this and find multiple possible reasons.

And as I spilled all my theories for now silent reader mode on again

  11. Of course I don't insist on this project, it's merely an example of what genre and kind of role I would like. Fantasy, mythology, romance, some comedy, a bit of action and touch of thriller - I think that almost ideal cocktail for me :) And talking about characters - I like when they in grey area, not good, not bad. And I generally like tricksters :)

As for remakes.... I feel you here :) For the most times I hate remakes. I'm talking about direct ones mostly. Btw, saw the trailer to the american remake of "Good Doctor" and it looked completly misplaced. But when it comes to remakes, or mayby it's best to say "loosely adaptation" - sometimes we could see something good. As per discussed Hong Sister project. From what I read about it I could understand that this is the case. Loosely adaptation with some characters from original story and somewhat common mythology. It could be good, it could be horrendous - I don't know. But I not turned away only because it bears remake elements. In this case we mustn't never watch any new book adaptations - why, when previous was so good! Numerous sisters Bronte adaptation (and I agree - there just too many!), numerous tv and movie projects after Jane Austen books. Agatha Christie, Conan Doyle, Dickens, not to mention Shakespeare himself :)) And so on and so on.

But for now, despite how much I like any fantasy-romantic mix, I will be good with any genre for YSY. My only wish - it must be damn good! With script, setting, character development etc. And I want happy end for his hero :) It's just too many sad things in real life, so I want that at least in dramaworld there will be something good and optimistic :)

Who would you like to see casted as YSY's next leading lady and what genre of drama/film would you prefer him to take up next? Haha.

What about  fantasy romance Hwayugi from Hong sisters’? Since Park Bo-Gum turned down proposed role it's a vacant for now. I like the description. From dramabeans:

    Quote

The fantasy drama is a reimagining of the Chinese classic novel Journey to the West, called Seoyugi in Korean, but modernized for a contemporary setting. In the original tale, a monk goes on a journey with four companions who need to atone for their sins. Among them, Sun Wukong the Monkey King is the most mischievous and troublesome, a minor god who is powerful and quick-witted but also quick to anger, and has a great deal to overcome and atone for

    Quote

In the modernized drama retelling, the heroine will be the monk character, and the drama is about her and Sun Wukong “finding the light in a dark world overrun with evil spirits.” The monk is described as snobby and materialistic, while Sun Wukong is corrupt. He was extremely powerful, but because of his pride, his powers were sealed up and he was exiled to the human world, where he became a bystander who does nothing but idly watch people fall to ruin. One day he discovers that the monk can unseal his powers, and they end up bickering their way to love.

    Quote

The drama is said to be a mix of horror, thriller, comedy, and romance, not to mention that it’ll be adapting some of the fantasy mythology of Journey to the West

    http://www.dramabeans.com/2017/07/park-bo-gum-offered-hong-sisters-fantasy-romance-hwayugi/

I don't know about scrtipt quality of course and the reasons why Bo-Gum  turned it down. But from all genres of k-dramas I think I prefer fantasy romance most. Always liked bits of mythology here and there and fantastic elements as well :)
