PREDICTIONS FOR THE GLORY PART 2

    1. I think Ha Do Young will side with his wife PYJ. Even though he seems intrigued by MDE, we can see that it really bruised his ego that DE approached him on purpose and not that he noticed her first. Also if DE goes on with her revenge plan, it will destroy his whole family: when the bullying becomes public, his company will come under fire(affecting stocks and clients), their daughter will also be under so much scrutiny and he himself will also be under fire for marrying someone like PYJ, his image will be completely ruined and image matters to him a lot. But if he stays with PYJ, he can try to get rid of DE and still keep living his perfect life with perfect family.

The one thing I think that may let him consider working with DE is when he finds out PYJ has been cheating on him their whole marriage and that their daughter is not even his. He seems like the type who’d make PYJ pay for cuckolding him.

The public image might be perfect but he knows the truth and I think that will bother him far more than public opinion. He's image obsessed yes, but there has to be some truth to that image. He wants a real diamond to show off, not passing off some fake glass as diamond. He also likes being in control and keeping his wife around is going to challenge that at every turn. Someone that cerebral isn't going to want to spend his time and energy chasing after his wife and cleaning up after her messes. Their last conversation is interesting. He asks about DE/YJ's history and said he's braced himself and her response is even so, cruelty hurts a lot. She's betting on him having some sense of morality and I think he does.

But since there are 8 episodes left, I don't see him all in with DE either. Else he could get her her revenge in half an episode-game over.

The writer said this about his character in a commentary

    Spoiler

He's supposed to be like a neutral viewer and someone who judges and weighs everything carefully. She also said something about how viewers would want bullies punished. So maybe their conflict is her revenge plans don't match up with his idea of justice? I can see him being the one sane character without all the messy emotions and past baggage like the others. Or maybe he's trying to balance keeping his daughter and himself from being collateral damage and letting DE get some sort of justice.

Wait, how far did you get with the show because I thought they did address that in the last few episodes of the show even if it was a little rushed.

QQ even said something along the line of oh, this isn't equality at all. I didn't consider that by making a female run society, I was creating inequality for the guys in that society.

Finally, maybe because I get to watch all the episodes all at once, I really don't mind the angst - It lasted 2 episodes only so it was over really quick + it made HS's turning a tiny bit dark really satisfying. He was pushed so far, you know, so his action felt a lot more justified than usual.

Yeah it's just lip service. She should've realized it back in ep.2? or so when she was reflecting on the male brothel/no rights situation and said something similar already. I thought the story was gonna go the way of her trying to change it seeing as she was the one with the power. But she didn't really and even in her personal dealings, she took advantage of the power imbalance. I think it would've added more meat to the story if her and HS actively worked to bring the 2 cities together and equal and there could've been good comedy there seeing the citizens trying to integrate.

Dark HS is like Winnie the Pooh without his honey lol which is to say still just a silly teddy bear that's a tiny bit grumpy for a sec. Since people are talking about it, Goodbye My Princess...that's what I consider dark. I hated that drama by the way, because the drama tried to justify LYC and there's no excusing any of that. The book was better because it was honest about LYC being more like a villain and the way he absolutely ruined XF's life and drove her to her death.

I think DYX in here is good-looking but not hot. But I find him hot in Intense Love which I just started. Maybe it's the hair.

  3. I'm not gonna lie the shoe-horned in angsty melodrama from the last few episodes kinda tainted the whole thing a little bit for me. I think QQ crossed the line one too many times and the repeated humiliation of HS is really over the top. Once or twice is ok but the repetitiveness of the same thing over and over is too much. They really put HS through the wringer and never really made it up to him. He's practically a saint for putting up with that whole city and not tearing it down.

I had so much hope too from the epi. 1 that it was going to have some witty commentary about gender equality, with the setup of the 2 cities and HXM's line to XQ that she wasn't really looking for gender equality and that the male chauvinism she criticized is exactly what her script is guilty of, in reverse. I thought that was going to foreshadow her learning what real equality means and flip her script while she was living it but it didn't really do any of that.

That said there are a lot of bright spots and the 2 leads are charming enough to pull it through. New found fan of the both of them. The 2 sidekicks are a highlight too-my favorite moment of them I think is the Rui Rui/Bai Bai part and then BB looking like he was going to barf.

That's the biggest mistake DH made. He shouldn't be going to JH on his wedding day. He should only to help her after he has gone through the ceremony.  By abandoning FJ on their wedding day to go save JH, he is blatantly telling FJ that JH is more mportant in his life than FJ. In FJ eyes, DH has always loved JH more. Hence I won't blame FJ for the misunderstanding and gave up on DH. Since DH don't love her at all, she might as well bring up their son alone and be gone from his sight rather than make him shoulder the responsibility. I don't think she did it out of anger towards DH ... perhaps more on the logic that since DH doesn't love her, why trap him in a loveless marriage and be responsible for the baby she is carrying. Her love for DH is too great to laden DH with that.

I might be wrong in my analysis since I didn't read the book.

No he didn't leave on the wedding day. He left in the days leading up to the wedding day and FJ knew about it. Because YCW showed up and told both FJ and DH that JH was dying and FJ agreed that he should go. Due to a series of unfortunate events, he didn't make it back in time and the message that he sent to FJ explaining stuff also didn't make it to her.

Part of the problem with FJ is that she's still stuck with this idealistic view of love and relationships, and super romantic heroes on top of her insecurity. Maybe because she only knew about the "pretty" parts of her aunt and uncle's love story whom she idolized. DH was a square peg, she was trying to stick in a round hole. This was obvious in Aranya's dream where she was telling Su MoYe what she wanted from love and a lover and why DH broke her heart during the days he didn't even know she existed. Because that's what she thought she had been giving to DH, these grand "epic" love gestures. But DH didn't fall in love with her because of her all shenanigans. He was initially attracted to someone he thought was interesting and unique, that's it. He's not a romantic hero at all though he eventually got to the point where he could make those big romantic gestures.

  5. Ahh I want to watch the new episodes but haven't had a chance yet. The trailers though...I'm confused too. Maybe they thought it would be too confusing for non-book readers to do all the disguising magic spells going on and the initial misunderstanding from both DH/FJ with Vengo playing DH/DH 'disguised' as Xize/Chen Ye and Reba playing Aranya/FJ switching with Aranya/FJ disguised as Aranya. I can see how people could complain about how they don't know each other when it's all the same actors. I also notice the sequence of events is all out of order compared to the book. But it's such a huge part of the story, I don't know where they're going.

I mean I kinda like it this way too as we can see FJ falling for DJ and not DJ as XiZe lol

True but I thought the book explained the FJ falling for DJ as XiZe very well too. It showed that FJ will always be attracted to DJ, no matter what he looks like or what name he's using cause the core of the person is still the same.

  6. The bath scene, the giving back bracelet/hairpin at court scene, drunk scene, A Li accidentally starting rumors, handkerchief etc. Pillow Book's greatest hits coming to life! Vengo and Dilraba really is the DH/FJ straight from the book. Vengo captures that "lazy amusement, I do what I want" so perfectly and Dilraba has the cutest expressions as FJ.

I love how during the bath scene instead of leaving, DH just turns sideways. And he keeps taking off his robe for FJ in return lol.

  7. Last weeks episodes are what I’ve been waiting for forever. And the trailers for this week gives me life. They should’ve started here honestly.

I just realized something too, the drama is technically fitting in PB the novel in 35 episodes. I actually think that might be a good pace. We are just getting started with all the great scenes to come too.

  8. I had my doubts when I heard about the change to make the mortal realm “real” and yeah I’m not digging it, especially when it plays chronologically. I think it changes too much of the premise and feel of Pillow Book.

I don’t like the whole DH unrequited love/broken heart trial thing either. Cause now that changes the impact of Aranya  /Chen Ye effect on DH/FJ’s story. I feel like the most emotional part of the book is that entire sequence when they discover the truth about Aranya’s dream world, leading up to DH basically giving the middle finger to “fate” is what PB is about. Not some stupid love trial thing. I hope we get to see kid Chen Ye and baby Aranya in the snake pit. So sad and even more tragic knowing that their sad ending is what gave DH/FJ a chance to meet. Also why the mortal realm being real makes no sense! DH/FJ shouldn’t have this entire history and backstory between them before Aranya/CY.

  9. I think the timeline is DH saves FJ before any of Yehua/Bai Qian's story starts in TMOPB. FJ being a palace maid/pet fox might line up with the beginning of TMOPB? But for the majority of events that happen in TMOPB, , DH is in recovery/sleep mode and FJ is in the mortal realm, thinking DH was there. That part is mentioned in TMOPB but very briefly.

Pillow Book picks up at YH/BQ's wedding. But the drama is showing the events that happen before TMOPB like FJ/DH first meeting, palace maid and pet fox. In the novel, these events are told as "flashbacks." So really FJ/DH's story spans across a longer time period, both before and after TMOPB.

    *  Maybe my episodes did not have full or proper translation, but what i understood reading about this drama , it was supposed to be independent of TMOPB, but i did not hear properly or understood when Lillith threw all those red stones , who was she and how is she really his equal in strength and co creation ...he barely managed to seal her ...and he passed out only after few episodes by using his cultivation ....true,  both my Ye Hua and Mo Yuen kind of passed out for few years LOL but this is Dong Hua alllooo,

Is "Lillith" the translation for Miao Luo? She is a manifestation of all the excess sins of the world. DH created a realm to contain all that evil energy to protect the mortal world from itself. And if you think about it, human sin never ends and can never be defeated so that's why Miao Luo is powerful cause that's what she's created out of. So every so often, DH has to use his energy to purify the place or else the "dumpster" will overflow and spill out into the world. He's literally cleaning up the world's sins. And yeah that takes a lot out of him.

Anyhow, I'm still curious as to why they inserted the mortal realm story to make it real. I haven't seen it yet so don't know if there's an in-story explanation? I'm ok with small plot changes as long as the characters are consistent. One thing I hated about TMoPB drama is that they totally changed DH's character. They made him a guy resigned to fate when Pillow Book DH is known for his pure shamelessness, thick face and not giving a rat's behind what anyone says or thinks. From what I've seen so far, looks like this drama will keep that aspect of him.

  10. Yes!! I worried for nothing. We will get them as Aranya/Xi Ze and all the cute scenes! They seriously have so much chemistry. And did I see it right? They’re having Dilraba act out some of the scenes from the pet fox days instead of it being just a cartoon fox? She’s adorable.

That trailer feels like a fan video for book fans. I prefer binge watching but with Pillow Book I’m not going to be able to wait knowing episodes are available.

  11. I'm confused about the mortal realm being real? As in the drama is making it so that DH really went to the mortal realm?  I'm guessing the mortal realm would have to come first in the timeline then. If so, I wonder how they will work in the point that DH didn't notice FJ for thousands of years until BQ/YH's wedding. Memory lost route would be way too cliche for me. And if they fell in love in the mortal realm I feel like DH is shameless enough to break any rule and make sure he remembers his love.

Also interesting that they're having Vengo play Chen Ye instead of Xi Ze in the dreamworld. Is that going to change the storyline for Aranya's dreamworld too? It's been awhile since I read the book so I can't really remember but DH just stole his identity and cast a spell so that everyone can't see the difference right? And I want to say Aranya/DH's Xi Ze had way more moments together than Aranya/Chen Ye. I hope they don't change those cause FJ's Aranya and DH's Xi Ze had some really cute moments together that would be a loss if Vengo and Dilraba can't act it out. Man I see the difficulty in adapting book to drama.

  12. It was never explicitly spelled out but WWX's guesses as to what happened was that because Mo Xuanyu was obsessed with JGY, he found out about the secret mirror room and saw the book with the spell. NHS was hanging out at the sect a lot, he befriended Mo whom told him about the spell. Then NHS encouraged Mo to get revenge by summoning WWX.

Now the above is only WWX's guess but since he's always been presented as super intelligent and never wrong at reading situations, then I'll take it as fact too.

Why NHS chose to resurrect WWX? Because he knew WWX would have very strong motivation in exposing JGY and he can control resentful souls. So it would be safe to release his brother's hand and let WWX take over from there. And I think he either knew about LZ's feelings for WWX (because Xichen the blabbermouth probably shared it with his sworn brothers lol). So wherever WWX was, LZ would be behind him. Or he was counting on LZ's reputation of being wherever chaos is, to get involved. That gets him 2 of the strongest people to do the dirty work for him and just about the only 2 people who could and would take down JGY.

That's how you get to the start of the story: WWX resurrecting in Mo Xuanyu's body, Nie MingJue's hand getting released at the Mo village, and the Gusu bunch at Mo village all happening at once at the same place.

The scenes where Xiao Xingchen's actor played Xue Yang was actually pretty good, better than Xue Yang's actual actor imo.

I agree. XY's actor played him way way too cartoony at times. But XXC's actor is pretty much perfect as XXC so...Honestly, I feel like XXC is the most tragic character of MDSZ, in a story filled with tragic characters. And I like how the author added that bit about the entire young crew crying for XXC and A'Qing and Wei Ying seeing himself in XXC's ending.

  14. Yeah I think the drama made WWX into too much of a Gary Stu. And a bit too preachy at times. Novel WWX was a true anti-hero and more complex and unique. I honestly don’t think I would like drama WWX as much except for the actor being so charismatic. Is that another censorship thing? That the main character can’t be too grey and doing morally wrong stuff?

As for the ending I don’t mind it but not sure why they had to do that separation/open to interpretation bit. They could’ve just had the 2 “buddies” travel together and going on adventures to get past the censorship. What’s gay about that? Because that’s basically what happens in the novel minus all the makeout/married life aspect. It’s the 2 of them splitting their time between going on adventures and life at Gusu.

  15. LZ knew WWX’s cultivation power/core was defective. He just didn’t the how and the why.

I know a lot like the drama telling all the past story first and all at once instead of flashbacks but I liked reading the book and getting all the surprise reveals one at a time. It really made it memorable. The reveal of WWX’s core, and then a double whammy later on with JC’s reveal of why his core was damaged in the first place. But I guess with the book out there, nothing would be truly surprising cause it would’ve all been spoiled anyway.

  16. Guardian was taken down temporarily for too much “superstitious” elements, not BL.  Supposedly. That was the reason given if I remember correctly.

I don’t know why WYB is criticized for acting. Hard to judge a guy when he’s supposed to be playing a “dead eye no expression” character, literally. He’s not supposed to be subtle or hard to read or hides his emotion type,  just plain no expression. In the book, every character always comment on his no expression face anytime he shows up. Constantly.

It works in a book cause all his feelings are told through his actions and we don’t get visuals anyway. I get that it’s tough to get the same feeling in a live-action, especially when everyone else is given super dramatic stuff to act out. But he’s got the hardest job any actor can get with that type of character.

  17. I know due to censoring, this is supposed to be a bromance but I feel like the drama is slightly more romantic than the book. Or at least the bond between WWX and LZ is stronger in the drama. Even back in Ep.1, when he first woke up, he thought of LZ. Present day WWX in the book, was pretty neutral towards LZ in the beginning and he thought their past relationship was a frenemies thing. Of course we learn through flashbacks that he remembered wrong. The only thing we lose out on from the novel is probably the love confession, some of drunk scenes and the over the top teasing WWX does as flamboyantly gay MXY which I thought was funny.

I'm still bothered by some of the plot changes like with the whole "founder" thing but hey what can you do. Otherwise it's a good adaptation so far.

  18. I would like the battle and war scenes a whole lot better if I actually liked CQ. But since she annoys me and the story wants me to believe that CQ is some super smart and very honorable and capable war commander when she's not, I can't take the war aspect of the story very seriously. It doesn't feel earned and CQ didn't earn any of it.  Which kind of sucks cause I really came here for ZLY and to see a story about a bad a** heroine. It's turned into a story about a dumb heroine who's a typical Mary Sue.

I can't help but compare this to General and I. Ping Ting is a million times a better character than CQ. That's how you write a bad a** heroine who walked a very fine line between doing what's right and trying to stay loyal to her friend. And she did it successfully. I'm only talking about character here, not comparing actresses who portray them. I was hoping that CQ would have the brains of PingTing plus awesome fighting skills that PT didn't have or need. Not to say PT was a perfect character. She had flaws, admitted it, learned from it and corrected it. Life moved on. CQ is one of those type that thinks they're smart and always right but really they're just dumb. Yes I know, eventually she gets there but it took her the entire series! Who wants to watch 50+ episodes of the heroine just not getting it?

That also brings me to another comparison, He Xia vs YX. He Xia is also a way more superior character. Someone said this a few pages back, that it felt like YX is just a bratty kid throwing a temper tantrum playing at being an adult. And I agree. Unlike He Xia,none of his actions felt like a temper tantrum. He plotted, executed it deliberately and stayed committed to his cause. I liked him a whole lot better than YX even though I think He Xia is more evil of the two. I also found him more sympathetic than YX too. His relationship with PingTing is also more poignant and tragic than CQ/YX. And again nothing to do with the actors but just the characters. It's really ironic cause I like ZLY/SD better than Angelababy/SY.

  19. I find CE, YX, and XE to be remarkably similar. All 3 are "blessed" with the same personality flaws, in that they are stupid, naive and arrogant in exactly the same way and refuse to see what they don't want to see, mainly reality.

I'm still confused at how YX could possibly even for one second think that Yanbei would be some sort of paradise? He has learned nothing. He lived through his family massacre, fighting for survival living with enemies, war etc., and he still thinks the happy place of his childhood exists? And when it doesn't meet his expectations, instead of trying to fix his home, he just abandons it to go grab something else. And him whining about no one welcoming him? Dude, people are poor and starving, and war is the norm, why the hell would they care about you? Are you handing out gold? Food? Water? Promising world peace? Get out of here.

It's the same way CE still thinks happy carefree YX pre-massacre should exist and would marry her butt.

And the same way XE who lived through the ordeal with YX still believe he stands for something other than revenge and would still do the "right" thing. What in the world? This after lecturing Mo'Er about how she understood YX's need for revenge and will always forgive him because he's been through so much. Give me a break.  What does she think changed man cause of his crappy life mean? Oh he's only changed to being a shopaholic at Sephora?

And all 3 clearly are too stupid to know what war means. XE talks a good game like she now realizes the consequences of war, and she had to learn it the hard way but it's all talk. I still don't think she quite gets it yet. That actions have consequences. She's as naive as the other 2. Take the XingXing situation for example. All she could see was that XX was being a great friend and loyal ignoring the fact that while that's a good quality to have, actions have consequences. And yeah good actions can result in bad consequences. Which is what YWY was trying to tell her. Sure enough the cruel world that is PA showed us what happened. How could she not see this, after spending practically the entire series going from one disaster to another? She still refuses to see that there are many ways to look at a situation. Still whining about Yanbei and being loyal to YX.

I think that's the biggest flaw of PA's script. We're supposed to see the character development of every one as they go through their tough life but it's only on a shallow level. The behavior and makeup has changed. But their way of thinking is still the same.

I just want to fangirl over XE and YWY. Is that too much to ask for? XE makes it really hard.

  20. This thread has been so busy that since I'm not keeping up with the live episodes, what I've watched was discussed like 50 pages back lol. But I finally binged watch to the latest (with a lot of skipping over lots of parts) to catch up.

I have to say I see a lot of blaming CE for being stupid and naive and why she doesn't think YX would want to get revenge. Well wasn't YX the exact same way? Yet he gets sympathy and people root for him to get revenge. By the same standard CE should rightfully get her revenge against YX and anyone close to him.

Let's see YX was just as stupid and naive as CE to the political games. YWY even tried to subtlety warn him but he brushed him off. He was born a royal too and was even "imprisoned." Why didn't he know the life and death political games? The fact is pre-massacre YX was no different than CE and is now no different than the King that everyone blames. But you know we didn't get to see the background of the King. Maybe he went through something similar to YX. Does that justify him killing off YX's family then? It's just so popular these days to give villains a "sob" story to justify their evil actions. So if one villain has a sob story, every villain probably has a sob story of their own too.

If ZLY wasn't playing CQ, I'd hate her character a lot more. As it is, I still find her unlikable. I don't find her smart or strong or righteous or anything resembling "girl power" though they try to fake it like it is. I didn't read the book but from comments on here, that's not the way it was in the book so that's disappointing. She comes off like an arrogant brat and I can't blame ZLY on this because she's an awesome actress. The script is so lacking.

YWY and XC are just about the only likeable characters. Every time I see them I want to tell them, "please save yourselves and stay away from CQ."

I think the reason they don't follow Pillow book because they can't as someone else has already bought the copyright. They would get sued if they do.

It's not because the writer hates FJ or the pairing... Dilraba  is YM's favorite and both Dilraba  and Vengo are under her agency. Her agency is part of the production this time and they push so many actors, Dilraba is the main one right after YM. And the pair have more screen time than everyone besides the leads. Some episodes they have more screentime than the leads actually.. so let's not be irrational just because we don't get what we want...

This isn't Pillow book drama. This is Ten miles of Peach blossoms.

FJ and DH's part is so minor there they could only makeup more to give them screentime  but can not go over Pillow book because of legal/money issue... I believe already did their best to increase their screen time and what they can do to not get sued by the copyright buyer/owner

Nope. Sorry that excuse that doesn't fly. There is no excuse to completely change the characters' personality that has nothing to do with copyright when they blatantly used elements of Pillow Book anyway. The FJ pretends to be a fox and unfated thing was in Pillow not Peach. Keeping true to DH or FJ personality wouldn't violate any copyright as long as they don't use the plots and dialogues. AND it's disingenuous to worry that much about copyright when they took what is a well known plagiarized work and still worked with it.

And no they do NOT have more screentime than everyone else besides the leads. There are cuts of various individuals/couples available that fans made and through 54 episodes, DH/FJ have a total of about 100mins give or take. That's 100 minutes in 54 episodes! That comes to about 4% by the way. 4% of total screentime available if you take 54 episodes multiplied by 45mins. Their entire story fits in 2 episodes. So yeah they do not come in 2nd behind the leads. They come in like 4th or 5th. Which is fine if it was actually a good story. But to add insult to injury, they get crappy airtime and a crappy story.

Let's put it in perspective here. Would Peach fans like it if in the Pillow Book adaptation had YH/BQ divorced in it? Or maybe YH was in a coma through the story. After all it would be the Pillow Book drama and not Peach right? So you don't have to stay true to Peach anymore or stay true to YH/BQ story and at least you get to see BQ and YH's sleeping body.

  22. I don't think DH ends up in a coma or sleep. From what I can tell of the battle previews DH is the first one there to take care of business but then once FJ gets hit, he pretty much checks out and is busy cuddling her while everyone else is still fighting. MY looks hurt and YH is the one to make the ultimate sacrifice to finish off the fight after stopping BQ.

I think he just accepts fate and that's the end of them for this drama.  The weird thing about the name carved next to FJ is in PB, that is technically DH's job no? He retired but he still chose to do that one part of the job so that he won't get bored. You know the part where FJ comes to collect her hairpin, bracelet etc. He was presiding over some ceremony to bestow titles for the immortals no? I swear, the script writer hates Pillow Book or something.

The Sujin trial is like the only part where drama DH pulls a book DH shameless move and is in character. He tells the TJ people they're biased so he's going to take over and dares anyone to say differently, knowing full well everyone knows about his relationship with FJ already!

Yeah I love Siming/FJ too but Siming in general. I wished we got more of Siming/Cheng Yu/Liansong. They're hilarious together.

  23. Well in the books, there was a Guardian? of the fate tablet and you had to ask him and I'm not sure he would answer anyone straight up unless it was DH. Also the guardian dude said that if you know your fate, there's a big risk that it might not happen that way anymore. And that's when DH was basically like screw fate, I do what I want.

I think DH's cried a few times and actors improv all the time. Maybe the director thought it made him too big of a crybaby and he's supposed to be emotionless. There are pictures floating around on instagram of the goodbye kiss after he rejected her dad's proposal and when he's carrying her back after she passed out from carving the stone, and DH's eyes are teary. It's not outright crying but you can see his eyes are wet. I didn't see that in the scenes itself so I don't know if the pictures are super HD or if they're pictures of outtakes and whatnot.

Their chemistry with each other in Vlove was also amazing. After this I hope they will give him a leading role.

Isn't it funny that in both dramas, it's Dilabra's character that always liked Vengao's character first? And in both, he didn't know what he missed until he almost lost her.

Yeah I skipped a lot to get to their parts and on Ep.30 now. I had no idea they were childhood friends or that she had a crush on him since she was a teen? I wished we could've seen a bit of that cause the way he put a ring on her seemed to come out from nowhere lol. But her saying that she knew him since she was a kid helped explained it a bit even if the prior episodes didn't really show that they had a long history. I'm also loving the half-sibling secret relationship with Amber and You Xi. Can't wait till the secret is out.

Anyone know if Vengo is mixed with a little Uyghur or something else? He doesn't quite look full like Dilraba but he doesn't look fully Chinese either.
