Well yes...that was actually the focus of the auditors if you listened to what they said to him. It wasn't about touching others and interferring so much into the lives of others. The issue seemed to focus on him killing himself. Again, for all deities...taking one's life is not your right. Considering they seem to be adding a "God" aspect to the story...the worst sin of all is suicide - it's a motral sin. The worst. It shows a lack of weakness and faith in a deity (if you believe in one)...it's a disrespect to your being.
Not even Wang Yeo's actions in the past are as bad as him killing himself---there is no repentance from that. He had a level of repentance over killing all those people..that was clear in his dismay. So it's natural that GB would hate him for it (WY in the past lacked honour)...I thought it was apparent. As I said, for me it was solidified when the Grimm auditors showed up.

Sadly...your complaint about "backreading" might be a thing here..since your original post was quoted on this page.
I'd say, just be more careful in the future. We all make mistakes and get unnerved. But this site and these forums are for laid-back chatting. No snapping needed.
*As a note, backreading can be a problem especially for a page that moves fast like this one. On the ongoing shows---backreading is easy peasy. Not many people are chatting about them like that (even if they are super popular like Laurel Tree Tailors). These shows with people like Gong Yoo or if Won Bin ever came back to dramas would have super fast moving threads.
For instance this show just aired about 2 hours ago and there's been like 3-4 pages of discussion on the last ep on my end. While, Laurel Tree Tailor's just aired and it has 10 posts to catch up on.

I understand that neither the ghost eunuch nor KS will become GRs...I was wondering if either of them would actually meet in a a GRs tea room (or any such place)? Yes I agree with the long term ghost issue...they do just go "poof" don't they. The norm, at least from what I understand, a soul with unresolved issues becomes a ghost and they obviously remember everthing about their lives. So like eveyone else they meet the GR, they choose to remember everything from the lives, then because of the unresolved issues they hang aorund as ghosts. I know this is not deep...but just wanted to put it out there.
I like the thought about ET also not being a mortal...I guess we shall find out soon enough...it must take something really special to have been born as the Goblin's bride, especially since he did see her once during the Joseon era premonition.
The lady GR, yes forgot about her...Kim Woo Bin GR has yet to recognise her!
The memory losss...is pure speculation from my side...I have 0 proof regarding it - so please do not be upset

Regarding Sunny and GR...I really hope that they have a happy ending, but I also think that GR will outlive Sunny.
Girl I support everything you say. Yeah...just that memory loss trope would just be an arrow in the heart---or should I say...sword. Okay that was one stupid pun, but I had to do it.

Why did KS choose Secretary Kim. Which BTW, he's actually really cute. Shall we all get the high ratings and get him to dance to TT. hehehe. Was the heading in and out of the door (to search for DH and drink soup) an ad lib? Since the staff laughed out loud.
Pardon me if someone wrote this before. (I will start my backreading now)I just thought that Kim Sun's feelings for each other were so intense in life or death that they could just sense each other. That blossom branch apparently means something more powerful than just weird richard simmons blooming tree in the middle of winter. But they left that unexplained.
Secretary Kim is loyal despite his physical resemblance to the eunuch. I would trust him, especially considering DH needs to grow up a little and needs that support.
One thing I've said before and I'll say it again and again and again---(This excludes Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo entirely) these 16 episode shows come up with so many damn plots and leave things unexplained. I seriously can't stand it. Stick with ONE idea. ONE simplistic (okay or make it two ideas) but don't bring up all these things that leave people going...
If' it's not the questions---it's the assumptions we make to answer the questions. Give me the on-going dramas. I got into this b/c of the whole metaphysical thing. But as far as plot---they leave you hanging way too much. The only show that didn't do that to me---not in the least and used very little tropes was WFKBJ. I can't even answer, logically, my own questions.

Regarding KS coming back to life
Someone mentioned in an earlier post (I apologise for not remembering who) that the young boy ET could be a higher being. If we were to go along with this then both ET and KS have done good deeds for him. ET always defended him against the bullies and KS created the wind power for him.
Also, ET has always been helping the ghosts she meet finally leave this world in peace. KS was also finally able to thank his old friend and repay him back for his loyalty.
They have both suffered...yet found ways to be kind and helpful towards others. I am sure that this will not go unnoticed to the powers that be.
Does KS come back a mortal or not...Chairman Yoo mentioned to Secretary Kim that when a man who walks with the wind and blue fire comes ( I do not remember the exact words) to give him everything?
Regarding memory loss
From the snippets here and there I have seen, at least to me, it looks like ET does not remember KS but KS on the other hand does know or remember ET. I am not sure if he comes back to life with memories of her or not...but when he reads the letter ET had posted at the hotel he finds the connection to her. But for him to read the letter...it means he would have to be in Quebec. So does he come back to life there?
There also seems to be a good reason why Chairman Yoo gave ET that camera.. it holds their memories!!! So even if ET does lose her memory...hopefully the pics on her camera will help her to remember.
I sincerely hope that at least one of them remembers their time together.
Regarding the one night trip
I personally found the 1N trip scene in episode 13...strange for a lack of a better word.
I loved it for what it was...the OTP got to spend time alone...and act like a normal couple...and for KS it was his final farewell gift to her ( well apart from that kiss
).
I felt that 1) the scene was an after thought from the writer...like okay we need to do something more fir the OTP before they part...2) there was actually more to the scene but they edited it out because of the postponement of the episodes....I was so sure they would kiss here and I am not sure if I am mistaken, but when TVN released the still of this scene I thought there was a pic showing KS caressing ET's face and not just tapping her nose ( I stand to be corrected). 3) The rooftop kiss was impromptu (I highly doubt it) or so effective, they decided that 1 hot scene was enough for an episode that would actually have most people who watched it, in tears.
Maybe I just expected more from that trip
. Whether they actually did consumate their "marriage" or not...I guess the remaining episodes will show us. I also do not think that ET is pregnant.
The way they went out would suggest, from what I can see, that they don't become grim reapers. Anyway KS won't be a grim reaper because his curse was to watch all the people he would come to love and care about die until his bride removes the sword. Therefore he had over 900 years of repentance. He is not a GR. I don't know how that would work. Secondly, if there is a "God" in this story, then there is a "Satan"---God cannot exist without Satan and vice versa. This would be a special place for him. If you notice the Grims, even though they did awful things to other's...it's almost like they're in a state of pergutory. For example, Wang Yeo did awful awful things. But he also totured himself---through emotional self flagellation then he killed himself. The way the auditors made it seem, it was him killing himself which was the bigger sin. Feeling repentance and sadness over your brutality would be different---because he felt that. But in the eyes of "God", killing yourself is one of the worst evils you could commit. Not to mention, the eunuch died in fire and brimstone---so yeah...no. He's not a grimmer. NOTE though...I speak from my Catholic upbringing mixed with my knowledge of Voudoo and East Asian religious knowledge. With that bbeing said...it's a toss of coin here. But I'm going with my first point.
I'm more interested in the long term ghosts. It seems when a ghost has done what it needed to do it fades away. Similarly to what happened in Master's Sun. For instance, going back to ET's mum. She came to celebrate ET's birthday and told her she would die. Then she just faded away. The same thing happened to that ghost that was killed by her husband. I don't know if it's because they managed to evade the reapers---over time they don't meet the reapers because in some way they've been avenged and found peace without remembering those times. There's no real clarity there. I always put it as a Master's Sun anomaly for those extended ghosts. While, others are just picked up immediately by the reaper.
I'm not sure about the boy being a deity. It's true, he randomly shows up at interesting times---but I just think he's a random character. They would have done more to build him up if he was someting special considering there's only two eps left and the boy was on two separate eps for less than 45 seconds.
As for helping others...I agree and disagree. ET yes, but KS has caused a bit of his own trouble. I don't remember the ep exactly, but when he paired two people up together...and ET was like that's so romantic. While KS says, that's not love---they'll make each other's lives miserable. They deserve it for what they did in the past. I mean...he's not all roses and weather forecast here.
You know what...I want KS to come back but not as a mortal. There have been too many things I felt he has left to do and he has a bride he has to get pregnant (who most likely isn't fully mortal herself (despite her beliefs)).
He's just not done yet. Wang Yeo never really apologized to him. It's sort of lame that I didn't really get a chance to see Wang Yeo defend Kim Sun from a demon. I was waiting for a battle...you know...a cool fight scene. Then there's that female Grim Reaper---no one has spoken about her and she has to play some role in all this nonsense.

Highly doubtful in my eyes that ET is pregnant. I think in some ways she's still seen as a sort of kid. If KS does come back (hopefully as still a deity in some way) I hope it's a few years later when she's older. Currently, she's not fitting him yet. It's like a random no-body teen girl dating Chris Hemsworth rather than Tyler Posey (her high school buddy or something). Dunno...I'm not there yet with them as a mature couple. At times I feel ET has a fangirl crush. While on the flipside I feel she's obssessed and married to this one-track idea, "I'm the Goblin's bride." I need more from them to get into this romantic story. But yeah...we all know ET has to end up pregnant at some time. I wonder what will happen between Wang Yeo and Kim Sun?! I feel like Wang Yeo will be spared---he'll probably turn into some other deity type thing or maybe made human without any memories. But that wouldn't make sense b/c Kim Sun would have all of hers. Weird.

I don't think I've ever posted here. I think it's because, although I love the show, there's something about it unsettling. I think it's the reilgious aspect to the show that I think is fairly overlooked for Gong Yoo and the romance. While on my end of it, I'm more focused on the mystical/theological libertities that are taken.
I was raised Roman Catholic (was is used because I ex-communicated myself (ie..stopped believing in the absuridity-despite still studying it)) person despite the fact my culture, I'm Haitian, kind of weirdly mirrors Korean (East Asian culture). For me, in my Catholic upbringing mind---Samsin Halmoni is Archangel Michael. Without a doubt. For those who were raised Catholic (you know your Catechism) or Christian...you know the role of St. Michael in our beliefs. So when I saw the way Samsin Halmoni speaking to Duk Hwa the way she did---about messing around with Grim and Gob--I was like there is ONLY one deity in Christianity who would dare to do that and it's Archangel Michael. As a side note, my favorite Archangel is Gabriel. Gabriel is totally God's hitman. He wants someone to die--he sends Gabe. Poor Michael is trying to save them. It's shameful that I'm oddly entertained by this.
Anyway, when I say Korean and Haitian culture sort of meld---we do in different ways. But in the religious way here---the Korean Samsin Halmoni is Eruzili D'en Tort Haitian (Voudoo- as a note; whatever you think about Voudoo is a LIE. A big fat lie! To give you a clear idea---think Catholicism but instead of a bunch of white people---EVERY saint is painted Black. Yeah, that's about it--with various roles). Everything that is basically said about Samsin Halmoni is our (Haitian) Erzulie D'en Tort. As a note, Erzulie D'en Tort picture is based off of the Black Madonna- ie the black statues/paintings of Mary and Jesus.
Just as a note...Haitiana and Korean/East Asian cultures, are so freakishly similar it would blow most people's minds. Any other Haitians here...start studying our history and in particular our cultural peculiarities and voudoo---it would blow your mind. By the way Koean people...Haitians love Chicken feet (spicy), sweet potato, and any part of the pig (well I cant stand pig's feet). Just saying...we don't have only food in similar but just in general -- when any of my Asian friends say something about their parents...I'm like, "Are they from the old country?" It just simply refers too, were your parents born in your native country; because it sounds EXACTLY like what my mum would say.
Woah, going on a huge tangent. I just realized why all my friends were East Asian and Caribbean growing up---we were all 1st generation Americans and had super similar upbringings and cultural similarities. (Okay, totally off course here).
Anyway back to my point. The second point for is, and I apologize for my focus on the metaphysical side of this story, is the role of reincarnation here. Despite that faces may seem similar that doesn't mean the body that has been "reborn" maintains the "soul" that is reborn. It's just an interesting element for me here. In some cases they stay the same, for instance (copied straight from dramawiki) Shin's loyal subordinate (Goryeo era) / Kim Woo Shik (job applicant). Same soul, same body. While others, like Yoo Shin Woo's secretary looks like a young version of Park Joong Won---but they are two different people. It's the same as Kim Shin's sister(s). It makes you question the interpretation of reincarnation here. I'm ambivalent about it (I'm a pantheist), however, one argument says--well reincarnation can't exist since the population has increased exponentially from the past (which could be debated based on the status of evolution---but that's whatever). Second argument, is that reincarnation could happen---since the soul lives on even if the body or form is different. Just rather fascinating perspectives in play here.
Last is the story and then romance. The metaphysical stuff is far more entertaining.

It has 16 eps. Episode 14 came out already? Did you watch it in Korea then (or through one of those online platforms)? Because I know there was an episode 13.5 (whatever that really meant) which was a total repeat story thing and celebration of TvN. I also get the feeling there's a chance this show might get extended. But that could be wishful thinking.

So guy... I haven't watched the drama yet and I know everyone here will recommend that I watch. I do have a question though, is this a tragedy? I am in the mood for some happy ending but when I hear a video recording I know there is not one. This drama reminds me of Love Me Not and that was so not a happy ending. Did anyone end up happy at the end of this?

I'm glad DK left YH house because I think he needs her to not be around in order to see how much he really cares for her. I also think DK needs time away from him.
I think we need to take it one step further than that linked. I think DK has to grow up a little here. She's been working for YH since she was 16 years of age and ran away from home. She even said in episode 10, I believe that she spent most of her life worrying about what he wants to eat, where he is, what can she do to make him happy. She knows no one else and has never thought of anyone else.
I think the separation will be a good thing. Not because it will show YH, how important she really is--and this idea that "If she leaves, it's a good thing. But if she stays it's better." She's a bit more important to him and I think he knows all of this. However, I think she needs to realize she's a woman and meet other people. Move out of the shelter YH's house provided. I'm now hoping that the show does have 20 episodes---because that can lead, I hope (as well) to some major maturity growth for DK.
Maybe she gets a new job, finds a new place to live, meets some new people. Experiment with some make up, a new hair style and things like that. Be a young girl---rather than a child. I think that when YH sees that growth in her--he'll see her less as a child or his little sister and more as a woman. Some people can say she's changing herself for a man. However, here we see her changing herself---for her--not for him, since she left the house. And I see that as a good thing.
I wouldn't want this to just be about him seeing how important she is to him---because that can be read as a childish action. "I'm gonna run away from home cause mummy and daddy (or YH
) don't love me any more. And I want them to feel guilty when I leave." <----I want it to be more than that for her anyway. -
This story is not catching my interest at all. Maybe it's the label of "weird feelings" that irks me. Ah...just reread it. It's a spin of Sex & The City...automatic turn off. I hated, actually I abhor Sex & The City---I cannot see how women can live like that and if they do---they're very sad albeit rich people. And the transmission here I guess is the problem. Explains my probs. Of course I'll watch the first ep--since Kdramas always take a different spin on things. But right now--it's coming across as a poor drama.

After reading some of the comments, I'm concerned about where this drama going. lol. Two women are now chasing after their men and disguising or changing themselves. Wow, that's attractive show.... Now, I'm all for equal oppty, but can you squash the cringeness of it all?
Otherwise, it will be hard to watch....I'm not too concerned. Keep in mind the whole thing with the Rom-Com's always are around the Cinderella concept. And if we look at it that way...did not Cinderella disguise herself as someone else to get the Prince's attention (no matter how shallow he might be) in the begining? Yes she did. This is always happening and it happens in a lot of dramas----but it's a curse of the Rom-Com with the Cinderella complex. I'm so used to it, that this is not hard to watch.

As for DK....I hold nothing against her in her actions. Yes, I can see him being angry---but I can also see YH getting over it without a problem. Not to mention I think he'll be turning to DK---if DK ends up giving up on him or is a bit ashamed. Although she seems like a girl who doesn't really get feeling shame.

Tonight episode
Highlights:
Mr.Gangster apologizes to GW and gives lotto back to him.
GW takes the lotto to put back in the drawer; he notices the phone number on the back of the lotto so he recalls –flashback in convenient store where he snatched the lotto from SG. So GW knows that SG has money.
YH wakes up to see DK by his side, he runs out of the house into the lawn, with the blanket covering his head screaming and running in circles. GW’s family, Mr.gangster, SG all looking at him.
YH talks to DK seriously that he thinks of her as his sister. DK cries.
GW overhears SG and YH talking, GW knows that it’s SG, a woman YH told him that he likes.
One maid recalls meeting SA at the dept store, compares her to SG. She follows SG to see how she spends money (basically she starts to think SG has money, from where?)
GW meets with SG’s dad.
SG comes and gets drunk, she’s angry at her dad, so she starts to tell her dad (my guess that she has money), GW tries to stop her, he kisses her lips to stop her from talking, dad looks at them kissing each other, he gets up and leaves.
GW moves back, looks at SG and asks do you have anything to tell me?
SG answers but I couldn’t catch her words. (Ending)
I feel bad for DK. I hope it works out, or she just meets a new guy. She's too young to be devoted to one guy anyway. AT this point I just don't like YH's fascination with SG. I also love the DK/YH pairing, but I'm okay to give it up if a cute guy comes in later on in the show.

I really really love this drama but what I have to say that irks me about it is the fact that so far Min Hyo Rin isn't given much love. I was hoping that, right from the start, they would start off with pairing DK and YH (yes, I sort of wish they were the main couple). But that just doesn't seem the case and she looks more like a filler than having a real or credible presence in the story. In actuality I'm seeing more of Hwang Joo Won than I care too...~sigh~
I have a question guys...in part of episode 5. This mainly goes out to the DK/YH shippers. In the translations from DS's site, we see when YH is yelling at the ladies he says two things that caught my attention. no.1, Acting like a pack of animals. That turned me off...because I felt he included DK in that and I didn't want to hear that. Not to mention it sort of exemplifies the problems of the couples. The next thing is when he says "OUR HOUSE," did he really say to the ladies that they shouldn't come in here and act like that in our house. Although he had SG in his arms...I felt it was including DK and himself and he saw the house as something they share together---as more than Master and Maid---which is then seen in the next scene of ramen eating. I just wanted some clarity.
As a note I do like the main couple....but it's really DK/YH who kind of stole my heart. Maybe it's the "li" pairing or the relatively young but smart, savvy, responsible and strong girl paired with her relative opposite easygoing, laissez-faire guy.

I watch this drama without any expectations and after watching it i think it's 1 of the better first episode of the may aired dramas.
I agree! I am in love. It's even better than The Greatest Love and I love that drama too. It's so relaxing, with no need for deep thinking or analyzing. There's no side taking--even that step-mum is funny irritating. So I think overall it's a great story. It's just fun and light. And for that it's a win. Much like Pasta.

This drama has me hooked. I just saw the first ep from AA and I'm loving it. I love the main couple, because SYR as SG is adorable. But to me it's all about YH (Young Hee) and DK (Da Kyum). They've been together for how long, probably going into a 5+ years and they don't even know how much they look like a young married couple. Like in the first scene
when he comes in to get the beer and she's in the kitchen making some egg pancake and he's asking where the bottle opener is....then he accidentally touches her booby....awesomeness. I really can't wait for the romantic aspect to happen. I wasn't too fond of the second ep where it looks like YH is bringing some girl in red to a dinner date...well it didn't look like DK. But I like some romantic-conflict drama building.
And guys isn't the baby super cute?!
OMG! I had a baby-gasm when I saw that kid. He was absolutely divine. He'd be my live baby-ruxbin. I'd be hugging and kissing him all day and never let him out of my sight. He's cuties. We need pics of that sweetheart! Great ep and I'll be participating more.

The only thing I don't get about the whole resumption of the Korean Royal Family is why the President ever agreed to give up power. I guess at some point HY's grandfather and him had some kind of agreement where his Grandfather maybe gave a lot of money to him for his campaign or something and in return the President 'humored' his wish to restore the royal family thinking it would never come to pass. I still don't see why he would have supported it with the public.
I think if Korea was to restore their Imperial House it wouldn't allow them to have any real political power in the constitution, but that the royal family would kind of be the official ambassadors or Korean culture and history. I think it was like this in one of the Goong series.
Yeah...I don't know. I had a similar understanding to you. The Granddad would put all his backing and Dae Han group (don't remember if that's the name exactly) behind the current President. The President, because he would have the backing of the most powerful company in Korea would then be able to sway the votes of the people. At the same time in return the Grandfather would get his precious Royal family reinstated. Additional, the extra benefit of the President, is that if there are questionably political issues he can have then pushed by the Princess or Royal house and if there is any backlash the Royal house would get it and not him. He's in a win, win situation with this sort of deal. The geezer...I don't know if he did or didn't think that far ahead (if this is the correct way of thinking) because what he might have pushed could be destroyed when he's not around any longer.
You're probably right about Korea. Most of the rulers have no say in the politics of the day. Well in Western culture only the Queen of England would have the most power in comparison. And that's only because they are informed on certain changes and she has to sign off on a few things. While in a lot of African nations and Asian nations the royal family does have a say or 100% control. Excluding Japan. They exist and I was so happy I got to see a picture of one of them. <---It's basically illegal to take pics of the imperial family of Japan. Personally I hate the idea. That's the tax money of the citizens lost on a bunch of classist punks. That's why I hate the fact Britain still has a Royal family. That's tax money that allows them to live like that. It's not right. But you can't take that away from the majority of Brits. They love their Queen. Tax money can be better spent on social services for the people instead on a "face". The people represent the past, present and future of a nation. Not a silly title.

By the way...I think that was Goong II. Goong I was as though the Royal family was always there. While Goong II, the male version was a bit different. I loved Goong II. Really a great drama. Goong I, not so much.

I have been lurking into this thread for some time already and I also noticed that most posts were written from LS' s point of view. And I didn't like it much.
I love how HY behaves and I also understand his actions. If it was just simple Cinderella story he would not do things to hurt her. He would not put himself in such position and mess.
But he understand the best what changed in her life when she decided to be a PRINCESS.
HY understand reality. he knows being princess is not a fairytale. It is always about politics and you need to learn a lot to be able to live in such world without been manipulated.
Plus, it is not that she was born one!!!
For so many years she lived as adopted child to woman who runs a pension. She has no idea about the "being princess" reality !!!! For Gods sake! She even is not so interested in her country's history!
Her reason to become princess was simple - to save her father's face. She probably didn't give a thought to what HY said to her (if this about her father was true). She just ASKED his grandfather for help. And how he could help her if it was true??!!! The outcome is predictable.
For me, her behaviour is childish sometimes. It seems that she still doesn't understand fully what being princess of a country really means. This is also another reason I love HY. Because he is really trying to protect her. Not in beautiful, understandable way but the best way he can. Maybe it is sometimes hurtful and nasty. Maybe it is not nice way but still the result counts. For him looking nice and chivalry is not important and I like it even more.
Simply put...agreed. You tapped in a few things I didn't even mention which is why I like this post so much more. Like the fact she wasn't born into it...and she's comporting herself in a way that is contrary to what is deemed "royal". I think what you said about her not knowing what it means to be a Princess is important.
I mean...it's not even the rules and all that. It's the mere fact it's the brunt of the reality. She is in the public eye. The public will criticize everything she says and does. Like in Ep 10 when she was answering those emails. She goes around answering questions without realizing the magnitude her answers hold. It's like she's very flighty.
Sure, this trait is very endearing actually because without that sort of personality quirk we wouldn't have gotten the cute drunk scene leading to the kiss. We wouldn't have had the rescue scene at the school. But as a Princess it's problematic.
For instance let me share a thought tat crossed my mind and I'm sure most people weren't concerned about and thought was cute. The scene when the children said she wasn't as cute as so and so princess. And she's like why, and they said because she doesn't have a prince. Then she pulls our Man up close and says he's right here. I'm like...woah! That's in front of children. Children don't have leashes on their mouths. You know that show..."Kids say the darndest things..." I was like this is a Presser all of the sudden, what if the reporters ask the kids a question and they say but he's her Prince....*where's he headdesk icon when you need one*
I was like...drama! Of course as a fangirl...I'm thinking
But on a realistic scale. I was like, problem no.2. It's these little things you know. They start off small but could turn into a nightmare. Especially if she was a real princess. I want to say I didn't come here to get into any disagreement. I recognize everyone's point of view...but I just don't agree. As I stated in my third post (I believe) where I started to explain what I think is HY's point of view. Someone said they didn't get him and I wanted to put what I thought out there on the guy. So, I'm explaining HIS point of view. A lot of the contrary opinions, are giving me LS's POV. I get LS. I understand her side. However, I understand HY. I saw he was labeled a jerk by some and dismissed. I didn't see him a jerk and I listed my viewpoints on that. This continuous back and forth seems a bit bordering on an argument than a discussion of POV. So I'll finally state...My perspective is stemming from an HY perspective and what I see to be his dilemma between duty and love. He appears confusing to some but I don't see him as such. He makes sense to me when I see his role and and struggles.

What Hae Young did at the beginning of episode 1 was in essence, pick Yoon Joo over her. So he doesn't want her to depend on him so he comes over and acts like he wants Yoon Joo and that's to make her stronger? She called out to him and he didn't answer - that's a rejection. The audience knows that he was there for Seol but Seol herself doesn't know that and later in the kitchen he does say that he rejected her. "Guys don't stew over girls they've rejected." Whether it was because he wanted to say something catty, he did say it... after from Seol's perspective, he just took Yoon Joo's hand and left.
Okay...I think we're going in a circle. I stated this in my earlier post. I think people need to step back from looking at the story from LS's point of view. I understand LS's side. I'm not disagreeing with it. I'm talking from the position of HY. And I'm giving his point of view. It's not a rejection. In other scenes where she's seen it a rejection he told her it wasn't. He hasn't rejected her. Not from his perspective. He does know how she interprets...that's apparent. But his point is that, and I stated this, if he gives in...they will end up with a lot of problems. She can NEVER be with him as a Princess. If he enables that thought, that they can be together, she's going to face that much more heartbreak. That doesn't mean he doesn't want her and this is why we have the ending scene at the end of ep10.
Again, this is my perspective. I'm not suggesting your perspective is bad. However, I disagreed with an interpretation I read on this thread. Since my interpretation coming from HY's side is very different. Secondly, if she is to be Princess and we're looking at her as such---these sort of games is not acceptable. It doesn't fly and it would bring shame upon her. He even says this.
As I stated he's stuck between duty and his heart. To you as a viewer, you don't get him. Okay, but that doesn't mean on some level his situation is not logical. Well I'm looking at him in his role and only him. I'm not looking at it from LS because well all the opinions so far are about LS's perception. As I said, I respect that. However his situation is a bit disregarded in the discussion. That was my point.
Nobody is an island and presidents, princes and what not all have people they have to depend on. Teaching her to not to depend on anyone is clearly not the right thing to do. Teaching her to distinguish between those who should be trusted and those who shouldn't be, is. As I have already mentioned before, that scene at the beginning of episode 10 wasn't about duty. It wasn't about her professional life but her personal life. What he did right there wasn't about her life as a princess but as a woman.I'm not sure how I'm supposed to take the statement in bold. YOUR perception is that it's not about duty. MY perception says yes and about so much more. I don't get why this is hard to get. I'm not saying you're wrong. I never suggested you were wrong. I'm saying from my perspective as someone looking at HY's side what's going on.
Again...As a PRINCESS there is no distinction between her personal and her professional life. Why? Because both will be scrutinized and debated and mocked or glorified. I think this is the big thing in the story. I saw throughout the eps, and this is not just ep 10. JW said she had to choose. If she wanted a personal life...she'd be Lee Seol, she would be on registry with her mum and Lee Dan would be he sister and JW would be her teacher. If she wants to be a Princess--life is very different. You're opinion is that there is a distinction. From what I'm seeing on the show...they exemplify over and over again there is no personal life if she is a Princess.
I do think that LS thinks she can be a woman on the show. The reality is..she can't. Hence the reason she gets the question at the end of 10. You dump being a princess and then you can be a woman, my woman. But as a Princess...you can't be. And until she rejects her title...there can't be anything and he tries to keep himself away.
2)Of course there's a difference between a personal life and a public life. Isn't President Obama married? Isn't Prince William about to get married? Why people are saying that Hae Young is giving mixed messages is that if he wants to keep things strictly professional, then he should do so. He is professional then he crosses the line by carrying her, kissing her, keeping all men from her, telling her she's not been dumped, asking her when she started liking Mr. P, who she likes more, him or the prof? If there's no distinction between her personal and private life, then is he doing all that as Mr. Diplomat or a man? Is he kissing her as her teacher or a man? So of course there is a distinction even if things get murky. However, as a teacher, she should lean on him and depend on him when it comes to the lessons and him barking orders at her, but as a woman, she can't lean on him? Does he want her to trust him or not? He should make it clear. Now, we all know it's a romantic drama and he's conflicted and all that but that in essence means he's sending conflicting messages to her. If he her enemy or not? She asked and he didn't answer. That's why she saw that ticket and still thought he was scheming behind her back. So although she's falling for him, she can't really trust him because he's not making his position clear to her. Which is why she wouldn't really trust that he does things for her.
I even called her silly for not seeing what he was doing for her but I also understand why she can't fully trust him.
1) Obama is not a serious comparison. He was married long before he was President. And when he became President, his personal life is basically gone. If you want to search...you can find out what toilet paper brand he uses. I know his birthday, is family members. I know his brother is married to a Chinese woman and I know where in China he lives. I know what his baby niece looks like and her birthday. Basically...Obama's personal life is public domain. Shoot...I even know which bedroom he uses in the White House. This information is out there. 2) As for William, his info is out there. His future wife may not be of royal blood but she's definitely of the elite. I'd like to see the scandal if she was some pauper waitress at The Siren pub in the West End. Not to mention, their status is not sensitive. They have a scandal they're still good.
This situation is not parallel, actually I find them to be apples and oranges. I'm sorry to say this...From ep 2 or so...it's been stated that they can't be together. I'm speaking about when the grandfather got into the mix. The Grandfather doesn't want them together. He's even forcing his son to marry Cruella to keep them apart and to dispel the rumors. They have strike one. Second strike is, she's not an official princess yet. If this is deemed a scandal it would destroy her standing and the goal of the grandfather and the President would fall to the wayside. Do you really think the grandfather and President would allow that to happen? HY is aware of this. This is why he said...if you continue to be the Princess we can't be together. You'd have to reject that title in order to be with me, because otherwise everything is against us. I'm sure they would manifest something in order to create some public outcry...they being the President and/or grandfather against HY if she wants to be a Princess but be with him.
Those oldies are controlling the direction right now until she's taken her place officially. Until everything is official it's precarious and when it is official they're not together. Again, this is what I read as the problem and difficulty they face. But also how the personal and public are married here and controlled by public opinion in a way. This is very different from the ones you suggested. Her position is not solid and the media is still wanting to find dirt to destroy the royal family---I think this will go on even after she would be official.
3)If he really didn't want her to think that she couldn't freely love him, then why in the world did he tell her that she wasn't rejected? She was still a princess at the moment he said that to her. He even said it twice.
And she wasn't playing a game. She didn't go to the bar and call anyone to pick her up. Even as she waited to see if the guys would show up, she wanted to leave and go back to the palace on her own accord. It wasn't till she arrived that she wanted him to not pick Yoon Joo. Prior to that, she wasn't planning on depending on him to take care of her.
This was before the incident in 9/10. As I stated...he's a sad character struggling between duty and love. That's how I understood it. He wants her, but he can't have her and he's dealing with his own drama. I just notice most people aren't respecting that. They're like well if you want her then be with her...right and if he is...everyone in the show who's an enemy will use it as a way to destroy her.
She played the game along with YJ. Look, it wasn't just YJ in this. I see that it's easy to diver this to YJ. But if she wasn't part of the game then she could have walked away. She could have called one of the guys herself and left with them or taken a cab or something. She chose to wait and see. At this point, she is wholly a member in this. From my perspective to dismiss her involvement is being an apologist. As for your last remarks I don't understand it. Sorry. She wanted, and hoped that he wouldn't be there. I was in the scene. She waited so then she wanted to know. Again if she didn't want to be there, she could have left. She wasn't shackled there. Shoot..if she wanted she could have also stopped YJ when YJ suggested to test out her theory. She didn't.
4)I think you're taking my words a little too literally. I just said the president was a snake to summarize it. He told her that the president was using her.
We would never know if she would have listened to him or not because he never actually told her why she shouldn't go to the orphanage other than, "You're not ready." If she hadn't listened to him then we can say, fine, she really put herself into this trouble because she was well informed but yet made the wrong decision. It would still have been a lesson for her to learn and she would have learned to trust him more. However, he didn't tell her and in essence, treated her like a child. She might be childlike, but she's not a child. She may take things at face value but she's learning. For example, she now knows that Yoon Joo isn't someone she can trust.
True. We wouldn't know. But I'm going by all the eps previously and not just this ep and how she's acted. You have no idea what she would have done...but automatically say he should have said something about the President. Maybe it shows a lack of trust in him and maybe for good reason...Instead of listening to him she did her own thing. Maybe if she listened to him as a Princess listening to their adviser and not as a Woman listening to a man who she assumed jilted her...then maybe the outcome would have been different. But she went with the latter obviously. In the end, it bit them both in the butt. They both end up in a precarious position.
Of course what he did didn't save the president face. He was having a press conference and some person barges in, makes some statements and takes the princess away. In what way does the president save face after that? He had some photo ops, but all the press will report is what happened afterwards.He made it turn into a mutual engagement of interest but with no political ties. In effect both the Princess and the President come out neutral. The President's actions are his own. He could have easily stated that the President is a liar and there was never an agreement. He did not. Everyone could have saved face.
5)I am saying that even though Hae Young said that she'd have to divulge the information about her adoptive father, she wasn't planning to do that NOR was she planning to leave the rumors about her father out there. That's what I'm saying. Just because Hae Young said that in order to clear up the allegations against her father, she would have to throw her adoptive father under the bus doesn't mean it's true. Sure, the drama is saying that but I disagree. So this is me not buying what the show is trying to sell. The third option of not mentioning her adoptive father was also there. Regardless of what the drama is trying to tell me. She did not have to name a culprit to state that her father was innocent of those crimes. I think they even accused her father of doing things her adoptive father didn't do. How come they didn't have to find a culprit for those crimes too?~snip~
I had started to read your statements one by one and then responded instead of reading the entire thing. However the statement in bolded in red discouraged me from even continuing in the discussion.
If you're going to omit specifically mentioned in the show to go on with your own thing. Then it's whatever. I have no problems with anyone adding their own speculations of what-if since that's great. But blatantly ignoring things in the ep cause you don't buy it?! Uh...I don't subscribe to that. You can basically disregard everything I stated in this post. I had thought of deleting it but I already wrote all this so...meh.
I also won't continue the debate. My statements were my perspectives on HY and that's that. I understood his quandary based on what I see on the show. I find no character on the show to be a beotch or a jerk and the only two I find conniving even though I still adore them is the President and old geezer. Everyone seriously entertains me and I see where they're all coming from. And that's all I was trying to say.
He's a scumbag. He ran off with the Imperial investiture and used the money to build himself a fortune. He failed to instill any semblance of morality or duty in his son or grandson and basically failed in every responsibility he had as a man and as a retainer.
As for the grandson we don't need a long azz treatise. He cares for the Princess but cares for himself most of all. So he does nice things, comforts her (because he does care about her... as that doesn't interfere with what he wants for himself) but if she presents any opposition to his goals or desires he mistreats or yells at her. Basically he's a classic manipulator, he's just coasting, sending mixed signals so he can control the situation, yet still give himself an out on both ends. Like a classic manipulator the ideal situation for him would be for her to capitulate completely and just give up everything of hers and come to him on his terms.
It doesn't mean he's a bad guy or that he doesn't have feelings. He just wants everything his way and puts himself first. He just smart enough to stay ahead of the situation but he doesn't have his grandfather's smarts or will to get what he wants(obviously if the old man was in his situation he'd have figured out a way to convince/manipulate/buy the Princess to his side of her own free will and also have secured his inheritance without the messy childish antics and drama).
Excuse my long treatise then. However you got your outlook and I got mine. If effect..I don't think he's a manipulator. He's got his issues like everyone on the show. We have a princess who's naive, childish and silly. We could say that we have HY who is selfish, and manipulative if you want. We have a teacher who has an orgasm over Korean artifacts. We have a neurotic lady with megalomaniac tendencies. We've got a sister who needy, emotionally starved and we can see love is wasted on. We have President and Senator who are demagogues for all intents and purposes. And we've got an old geezer who plays Puppeteer with the life of most of the characters.
Yeah..no treatise is needed. On a shallow end, they're all got major faults and weaknesses. On a macro scope we all do and I freakin' love these characters.
As a side note...if the girl rejects the title and becomes his. It's unlikely the granddad will give him his inheritance. He'll still give it up---you saw what the Granddad did to his own son. So to assume that HY is in some way using her even at this point in the story is unrealistic. The granddad can easily leave him destitute in spite.

i was re-watching previous episodes and laugh at LS statement in Ep 2 "While women are blinded by jealousy, the
blood of men boils with protective instincts"
1. EP3...While in the schoolcanteen...he covered LS & helped her escaped.
2. EP4...HY try to cover LS from being hit by her mum in the church
3. EP4...HY drives fast to school upon hearing LS shouting while being chased by reporters.
4. EP5...HY drives fast to hospital upon hearing LS had an accident and look pissed upon seeng Prof there with her.
5. EP6...HY loooks worried when LS got hurt after jumping off the bed trying to get her exam paper
6. EP7...HY was worried upon hearing that LS is missing and later on found her in the vintage car.
7. EP9...HY stope LD from hitting LS in her room.
8. EP10...HY pulled LS out of the president side to inform her she is being used...
Talk about protective instinct... HY did a lot of instinctive protection in the past episodes...
Yup yup!! This is why I said that HY is the most protective of her. And I think she knows because of all these situations. No matter the situations she's placed and no matter how many times he's made her angry. In the end she knows that when it comes to her...she can depend on him. Which is why he's fighting a lost battle. He's still trying to make her depend on herself---but she leans on him---but while she's in the role of the Princess.
Poor guy. He's bound to her by duty but loves her as a man. He can't love her as a man if she's a Princess. But when she's in trouble he's the first one of the scene.

HY, I LOVE YOU!!! If LS says no....I'm here...I'm here... Ugh, what a man. He's like perfect. Gosh...he reminds me of KH from CS. Always misunderstood but always on point. ~sigh~ Don't forget...
1. When he fed her porridge after the accident.
2. When he brought her to his house when she needed a place to crash.
3. When he went after her and held her when she found out the truth about who she was.
4. When he ordered extra food cause she eats a lot.
5. When he found her at the fountain with her shoes off and he tries to look at her foot so then he carries her back to her room.
The man is great....he's just great...

I'll have to respectfully disagree about Dan. Sure, later on, she may come to redeem herself, but her past with Lee Seol is still a mystery. Her anger about the revelation about her foster father's misdeeds is understandable, but what is unclear is why her anger towards Seol runs deep. What happened between them when they were young that she persists to be antagonistic toward Seol? From the very first episode, we have seen nothing but coldness from her.
And she "didn't side with Yoon Ju" because Dan's siding with Dan. She has her own agenda. When Yoon Ju wasn't exactly giving in to Dan's quid pro quo talk, she turned around and went to Jung Woo. And even then, she was pretending to him that her intentions were for her sister's well-being. She was a straightforward beotch to Yoon Ju, but with Jung Woo, she was all pretense because she wanted something. It shows her cunning at this time. So, no positive step for her ... at least not yet.
Nobody has concluded that Dan is a lost cause, but we are saying that she is getting worse. The first press conference was Dan's turning point. If she had a strained relationship with Seol before that, then the revelation about her adoptive father exacerbated it even more. Dan's anger and jealousy towards Seol don't stem from her father's name (and by extension the family's reputation) being sullied. It is rooted in something deeper that goes back to their childhood, and that is the one part of the story that some of us are eager to find out, especially now that her character has been given more significance in the show's development. Once we break through to that past, then, there'll be a clearer understanding of Dan and why and how she can be redeemed. But right now, at this point in the story, she's a conundrum and a conniving beotch.
It'll be interesting to see how the relationship between the sisters will be improved. And I think it's going to take something big to break Dan's hardness.
My statement about LD is my own. I'm not talking about Soompi posters alone or singularly. I'm on a few drama forums and a lot of people don't like LD and see her as a lost cause. I like her. But I like Cruella as well. I stated that clearly. Neurotic as she is...I adore her. My only issue is the geezer.
Anyway in regards to LD---I stated she was redeemable..never said she's a good guy. I know very well she has her own agenda by giving the satchel to JW. And I find the reason very apparent. With JW she will be Princess if she says it's hers. It's truly what defines the princess here. All Cruella was offering her was a reward. A reward or Princesshood?! I dunno...it's so hard.
However, in my eyes she could have easily given it to YJ and it's a step in the right direction when she gave it to me JW. Why? JW has a certain level of loyalty to LS and he also suspected that LD stole it from LS. And he's right. If LD really wanted to be vindictive she'd do it by giving it to Cruella. LS would be out of the Palace right now and she'd have no choice as to be Princess or HY's woman---it would automatically be the latter.
Now that I think about it...maybe I wish she did give the satchel to YJ. ~sigh~ In what episode was she all pretense?! Because in episode 10 she was not all pretense, far from it...she lied of course about the satchel being hers but she wasn't pretense. She stated clearly that she gave it to him because he cares more about the satchel than anything else. She was not protecting or defending LS at all. She was making a business deal.
I know clearly that LD had issues with LS before the whole Princess thing. I stated that in my second or third post, it was even stated in ep 4 or 5. LD stated how life was always easier for LS and that people always cared for her more. I believe that LD overheard when the nun suggested the mum to take her and not LS. Remember the nun stated that she was telling their mum to take LD. But when they came they wanted LS, in the end the mum took them both. I suspected that LD overheard. Since then she's been resentful. I even elaborated that it was totally soured when HY dirtied the name of the adoptive father at the presser. Which I understand, even the mother was upset. LD just lost her career, hard worked flushed and her life was made much worse once again, so I understood her going apes***.
That's the one thing I don't find about LD. CONNIVING. She's straight up. She keeps it real. She is not lying about her feelings. She is not pretending about anything. She's not kissy-kissy with LS and then stabbing her in the back. She'll cut up LS in front of the press if she could get away with it. She's like, "I'm not your sister (registry helped that long), your anything. I'm here to destroy you."
Meh, I like her. Much like Cruella. But as I said I like the girl. I like them all. I hate no one and think no one is a jerk. They're all fun characters to watch...even the geezer.

I'm old -- Won Bin at war with Kim Rae Won. I was always conflicted between both.
I would probably have married Won Bin since he was my opposite and the roles he plays (which says something to his personality) would love me to death <-- I'd never let that go. Never!
But I'd have a mental and emotional affair with KRW <--- he makes me laugh and happy.
