I think that article saying Han ga in dispels concerns is too early in all honesty. In that one second she didn't confirm or dispel concerns that she is miscasted because the adult Yeon Woo didnt do anything but show her face. I do love this drama and it is the first saegeuk that I am going to watch from beginning to end so I genuinely hope she does well as the episodes progress. I do have my reservations of her notsomuch because of the age but moreso because she hasn't really impressed me with her acting in any of her previous work. But you know what they say, give a person the right role and chemistry and it can do wonders, so hopefully she ends up surprising me.
As for the pretty Yeom to older Yeom disconnect that many are feeling, I do agree that the person they casted looks a bit old, but in general face structure I can see similarities with the child version. I think this is mostly because Yeom is supposed to be same aged buddies with both Yang Myung and Woon, however Jung il woo and the actor who plays adult Woon are really young looking thus making it hard to believe that they are similar in age. However when you consider what has happened to Yeom's family and all the stress that Yeom has been under since YW's "death" I think they purposely casted older since stress can really age a person.
As for the rest, I miss the child actors but I think the transitions haven't been that jarring. Since Soo Hyun and Jin Goo have very similar mannerisms and voice, I think the child to adult hwon was probably the most believable and smooth to me.
I love that we are in the adult storylines now because unless you read the novel everything from here on out is a mystery.

this is the first time I've read the recaps from dramabeans after episode 4 (Maybe) and I just felt that their recaps has knives to show and it kinda hurts my eyes reading SOME WORDS in it... hmm, I think they don't like MMM that much?... I can feel it... *SIGH*
In the first place, they should've just DROP it if they don't like what they recap..
OR if they'll recap this drama (TO SHOW PROFESSIONALISM AS TO NOT STOPPING WHAT THEY STARTED DOING) they can continue doing recaps but their NEGATIVE COMMENTS should just be kept with themselves... (Or post them somewhere or other part of their page)I know everyone of us has a RIGHT or FREEDOM to say what we feel and want, but freedom and right has limits...
To be honest I get where you are coming from but its their blog and even if you absolutely hate what they say, that doesn't lessen their right to say it. They make these recaps because they want to , not because they have to, and people enjoy it, so they shouldn't stop because their opinion is different than others. Why should they post their negative opinions on another page, its THEIR OWN BLOG, and they have a right to say what they want in it. If they have a negative opinion of it, thats their interpretation of it and just accept that they didn't see the drama the way you see it. That shouldn't lessen your enjoyment. I mean there will always be people who disagree in regards to impressions of dramas. To the commenters that only read the recaps just accept it as their lost. I follow both recaps (dramabeans and ockoala) and I disagree and sometimes agree with both of the blogs. As a drama M3 to me is a drama that has an amazing cast with amazing natural chemistry that is doing the best with what they are given, in that aspect I agree with dramabeans. The talent of this drama is not a question but the plot and the writing is severely lacking at least by my impressions ( I have seen every episode by the ways). They are workin it with what little they were given, the reasons these characters are endearing isn't because of how they were written but how they are portrayed. Does that mean I like the drama less , no , it just means that I like the drama despite what I consider its faults. I still love MSOAN because it is good lighthearted love story that is fun with an amazing OTP. Had the OTP been played by less capable actors with less chemistry I wouldn't be able to watch this drama on its bare bones because on paper it doesn't make sense and is all over the place. The Geuns and KJW are what gives the drama life and makes the characters endearing and their natural chemistry is what makes their relationships believable even though everything else is so far fetched.
Did you guys read this news??
KBS Best Couple Award ; Moon Geun Young-Jang Geun Suk or Moon Geun Young-Chun Jung Myung ?

Repost from MSOAN fb..
Had Cinderella Unni gave Chun Jung Myung more to work with rather than play the angst card x100 I would be on the CJM-MGY boat. But I think MGY-JGS should win because they are so good onscreen together. Not only are the Geuns extremely talented, they play off each other really well and their chemistry is off the charts.

As much as I like seeing the OTP cute in MSOAN I really hope Kim Jae Wook and Moon Geun Young do a serious drama in the future as the leads. They look good together

Silent Lurker here (mostly because I am usually at work when I read this in the morning). Anyways loving Mary Stayed Out All NIght. I kinda get why the ratings are low though since its kind of a "slice of life" romantic comedy which usually becomes manias but don't fare to well in the ratings. Anyways ratings are rarely a measure of quality and I think the chemistry and acting ability of the cast makes this drama a worthwhile watch.
Anywas I made a MV using clips from Mary Stayed Out All Night using my favorite song of the moment Bobby Kim and Gummy "Love Recipe" hope you guys like it.

I feel like I need to give a disclaimer even though I really shouldn't have to, but I will just say that I like DBSK, I also like Yunho as a person and singer/rapper but THE BOY CANNOT ACT TO SAVE HIS LIFE . HTTG is the first drama that I couldn't even get past a couple episodes because it was just that bad. I really really hope he has improved to be at least passable in this role because even though he has actor looks he has yet to show that he has actual acting ability outside of his popularity and handsome looks. Kim Kang Woo, Eric, and Ok Bin are my main draws to this drama because they have actually proven that they can act and look good doing so (I find it interesting that each of them had their best acting performance in dark/complex dramas and movies playing dark and complex characters). So I hope that Yunho has either learned to act or his role is VERY VERY small in this drama.

silent lurker here. This is what I don't get about Sunghee, she is so scared about the affair coming out in the public yet she threatens TaeHyun with their son knowing perfectly aware that he is aware of her affair. Isn't she worried that if she keeps pushing Taehyun that he will expose her and JiWook for the adulterers they are, also as a divorce lawyer doesn't she know that if it comes out that she is an adulterer it is highly unlikely the court would give her custody of her son this whole threat scenario is a bit unrealistic.
I wouldn't be surprised in SeolHee doesn't show the affair cd, as much as we want her to give them what they deserve, in a way it would make her as dirty as they are (in her own eyes I mean) and based on what we know about SeolHee she isn't the type to destroy the careers of others just to get what she wants. Although it does make me interested in how she wins the case without it.

I haven't seen the episode yet (Im at work at the moment) but I am not surprised at what I am reading. I am not sure if people remember but didn't Kang Ji Hwan say in an interview early on in the show that while the first part of the drama seems like a sitcom, after episode 10 or so the drama would make a drastic change to the point that people will wonder if they are watching the same show. So it actually makes sense that we will see this drastic change in JiSoo. I think both shippers (SY/JS and EY/JS) shouldn't jump ship just yet until we see what the relationships between him and the girls are in the next couple episodes. I think next weeks episodes will start to solidify where this drama is heading in regards to who ends up with who and what not.

The thing about using the term soulmate in kdramas is that it doesn't mean they necessarily will end up together because if you think about it, in BOF Jihoo was Jandi's Soulmate but she ended up with Junpyo in the end. I am not saying that Js/Ey won't end up together because none of us know, in fact I do not think the actors even know who will be with who at this point. I think the only thing we know is that there will be at least a JS/EY and a JS/SY loveline at some point but which one will go to the end is still up in the air. This is one of the few dramas where I genuinely like all the characters so whoever ends up with who doesn't matter to me as long as they make it believable and the transition realistic while keeping with the feel of the drama that we have come to love. I have a feeling that in a way the writers are still trying to decide who will end up with JiSoo in the end and will make that decision based on how they write the story and how the chemistry between the actors work but its not solidified right now. However if it is indeed going to be a JS/EY I hope they deal with the whole JiSoo's wife's death without getting too much melodramatic because that would feel very out of place with how the drama has been so far. I mean the drama can get serious but CS levels of angst would feel really out of place in a show like this and usually death and guilt leads to that level of angst.

Loved the first 2 episodes. With all the angst in Cinderella's Sister I am thoroughly enjoying laughing out loud to Coffee House. It helps that I have a huge soft spot for Kang Ji Hwan. At the moment I think all of the characters are hilarious and fun and I was pleasantly surprised by PSY's comedic chops since she usually portrays serious and elegant characters. At the moment I am really liking the SY/Jisoo pairing (EunJung/JiHwan) but mostly because I like their interactions but we are only 2 episodes in so I may change into liking the EY/Jisoo pairing once we get more into depth into their relationship since the first 2 episodes focused mostly on SY and Jisoo.
Like everyone , I definitely replayed the helium scene. High pitched voices but JiSoo's reaction to high pitched voice: PRICELESS.

In Meteor Garden, the second season was dedicated almost entirely to Daoming Si's (Junpyo) memory loss, and they really dragged out the story until I was bored to death.
sorry to cut your post short but part of the reason they dragged the memory loss season so much was that unlike HYD and BOF, Meteor Garden Seasons 1 and 2 were shot before the manga even finished. The manga finished in 2003 but MG 1 and 2 aired in 2001 and 2002 respectively.
I actually liked this version, yes on a miniscule level the ending was kinda lame but the story originally was open ended so anything with some idea of a future makes me happy. I also liked how they intertwined some of our favorite moments of the series into the final episode. I think the scriptwriters and PD just ended up with more loose ends than they could logically tie up even though they had originally intended on doing them justice they just ran out of time. If I had never seen the other two versions and read the manga, for a drama I would say although they did a good job at keeping the hype and people entertained as a story it was very lacking but since I have seen and read the other versions I am still happy that I stuck with the show till the end because between the three I was able to see most of my favorite parts of the story played out in live action. The korean cast will probably always be my favorite because 1)they are gorgeous and 2) great actors and if anything this show will be great boost in their careers, especially Lee Minho and Kim Joon. Most people already know that Kim Bum and Goo Hye Sun can act so I wasn't surprised by their performances, considering in the last drama I watched with LMH I barely noticed him ("I am Sam" with TOP from big bang), because I was too busy seeing if TOP could act or not, his amazing performance as GJP was a pleasant surprise for me. As for Kim Joon, if I didn't know this was his first acting role I would of thought he had been in at least a couple of dramas prior because he is definitely a natural actor and I see great things in his future and people should watch for him because given the right role I think he can be a great talent . Hyunjoong, love him or hate him for his first role he did a great job and most importantly he improved as the show went on. Most people do not get such a high profile role as their first acting job so I think he did a fine job considering the pressure of this specific role and how high profile he was to begin with (coming fresh off of WGM).
All in all I think what makes HYD work is that it was a great story and each PD did a good job of not only picking people that work well together on screen but got along just as well offscreen. For each of the versions, especially with BOF, I can imagine them being just as good friends off camera as they are on camera thus making their portrayals of the roles that more heartwarming and believeable.
On a random note, I absolutely LOVED the pool scene, it was beautifully done and I probably replayed it three times before finishing the episode when I was watching it subbed (mostly because I watched it live that morning so I already saw the end).
Although I am usually a lurker on this thread I just wanted to thank everyone here on this thread for their great recaps and commentary, it has definitely been a great ride. I haven't had so much fun (and been fustrated at times) watching a drama this much since Coffee Prince and Goong.

etoile: ok, now that's just rude. Delusional? really? Who's the one getting so worked up over a DRAMA ADAPTATION. Just because it's based off the manga, doesn't mean it has to end the same way.
I repeat JUST BECAUSE THE DRAMA IS BASED OFF OF A POPULAR MANGA DOESN'T MEAN IT HAS TO END THE SAME WAY.
To base your movie/drama/series whatever it is off of a book or another movie means to use it as the base of your movie/drama/series. You use the basic story line but mix things up a little. No-one said it was illegal.
So don't get your panties in a bunch about something that may not even happen! Just take a breath, relax, and enjoy the rest of the series because things are about to get real good. Remember, it's anything goes!
Actually it does when the drama is copyrighted and they went through all the trouble to get the copyright from the author. If it doesnt end the same way as HYD (with JP and JD together) then it isn't HYD rendering going through all the trouble to get the rights to film it pointless. HYD is a love story between the two characters and how JD/Makino changes both JH/Rui and JP/Domyouji for the better. If they were going to end it completely different than the original manga it wouldn't have been necessary to get the copyright from the writer since although the theme is similar it would of been a completely different story. Adaptations can adapt the story i.e. take what they want from the original manga and adapt it tthe audience of the country doing the adaptation (i.e. extending certain arcs to give it a more love triangle feel like most kdramas do) but if they are going to go through all the trouble to get the rights to it, they have to stick to the main theme of the story, otherwise I don't think the author would of gave them the rights to film it.
I like a lot of people hate that they are dragging the fiancee arc but I can see why they did it. First of all in the original story there were a lot of different people besides Rui that were obstacles in their relationship, so since they have to cut it down to fit 25 episodes, they have to combine these obstacles into just a few. For example the model guy was a mix of the original model from the story plus the "cousin" who was paid to seduce Makino, so they wouldn't have to include the cousin arc. JiHoo is a mix of Rui and the politicians son (in how he always saves her). As for the fiancee arc, all of us should know by now that kdramas that are about love stories always involve a love square, ALWAYS, there is always a girl who likes the lead male and will not let go and there is always a guy who is in love with the lead female , because of these people it usually takes till the last couple episodes for the main couple to get back together. Plus even though the fiancee arc ended rather quickly in the manga, Jaekyung/Shigeru remained a part of the story till the end, if fact she became a helper of F3 in getting the two back together even though it was obvious that she was in love with him.

hi everyone! new reader here.
I am personally loving the Korean HYD currently even after reading the manga and the watching the two other versions of the drama. I think each version had its own appeal and even though all of them were based on the same story they each had their way of telling it. One thing I love about the korean version is that you really want Jun Pyo and Jan Di together while during the other two most people wanted Makino and Rui together making it slightly dissappointing that she ended up with the Domyoji. Meteor Garden 1 followed the manga pretty closely especially with the development of Domyoji and Makino's relationship (first kiss, jealousy of Rui, etc) and the school violence but the acting of the drama was horrible. The Japanese one had the best soundtrack (even though I prefer kpop to jpop, flavor of life is just EPIC) and for the parts of the drama they showed they were great but they cut out a lot of the story so although the acting was great I always felt something was missing plus I am not the biggest MatsuJun fan so that didn't help. The korean drama version imo took lessons from the other two to make a different HYD for us to enjoy while keeping along with the original plot but giving it a twist, I really like the casting of the F4 and JanDi, I know Hyunjoong cannot act really well but I think he was casted because in real life he is a lot like Rui and looks like him too so we can only hope that his acting improves. I love Minho as Jun Pyo because his face is so emotive which is great during the scenes he has with JanDi and at this point you can actually believe that he and Jan Di end up together (their chemistry is so good when they are arguing ). Also having seen the other two Im really happy they are moving the story faster because they have only 24 eps to convey over 200+ chapters of story. One thing I am looking forward to is the relationship between Ga Eul and Yi Jung because none of the previous dramas and manga did this relationship justice.

quiet reader here. and much thanks to all the kind translators, summaries, and general info that without help I would never understand.
personally I haven't watched the 7 or so episodes and just watch the previews and read this forum mostly because I have little patience for the dragging of the show. I used to really like the SB character but have since grown tired of this need to put everyone's happiness before her own. As much as I don't like the new development in the story I can kind of see why they did it. They needed to have SB make HS really mad/brokenhearted to show any backbone that he hasn't shown in the past. Yes he has talked back to his mother but he hasn't really done anything to really show what SB means to him and what will happen if he cannot have her. They need him to become this cold person to eventually get MJ to realize SB's role in his life since up to this point nothing has changed her mind. Additionally up to this point HS has been kind of a bland character especially considering he is supposed to be the lead male in the show so they needed to something to give his character more depth. This may be a stretch, but i can see something happening between SB and NW in the future since after TP we haven't had any real love rival for SB against HS and usually there is some love rivalry going on in these type of dramas. As for TP and YR I personally like the actor who plays TP but those characters are immature beyong belief especially if TP knows or finds out about the "fake" pregnancy and still goes on with the marriage, I find this storyline unrealistic because it is such a drastic change from his "i will protect SB" mantra in the past and it was a rather quick change making it that much less unrealistic.
regarding ratings, I can see why the ratings of this show are decreasing especially on nights when it goes against East of Eden. I like this show and all but East of Eden especially now is so much more interesting and the actors in that show are amazing, in fact most of the cast is amazing which as much as I like YAMD I can't say the same for its cast.
And as for the last daily drama Likeable or not, I recently finished watching that show and I can see how the ratings were so high. Even though it was ~160 episodes I never felt that the show was dragging or that they were trying to fill "empty" space like most dramas that are extended. Plus the actors were great and for the most part a lot of the storylines were believable, I found the ending to be a bit quick and borderline cheesy but overall the quality of that drama far exceeded YAMD at this point. I just hope I see some improvements in the next ~30 episodes so I don't feel that the 100+ I have already see were a complete waste of time
